When you walk in, you'll notice there's not much shelf space, and you'll also notice that the place seemingly hasn't had a decor refresh since the late 60s or early 70s, but if you look deeper you'll notice they have a decent selection and decent prices as well. What takes them from a "decent" 3-star rating to 4 is that they get their hands on some amazing wines via special order. I've gotten Chiantis from the legendary 1997 vintage, cellared Napa Chardonnay, as well as some hard to get French red & white burgundies, and that was just one order hahaha. If only they could expand to showcase some of these rockstar items in inventory they'd surely be 5 stars. read more

I have always been pleased with the selection of beer and wine in the store. I find everyone very pleasant and polite. They find some interesting low priced wines at times that are exceptional values. I read the one star review and felt compelled to add my own. They have always taken. Credit cards on the countless occasions when I've ever stopped in. Also I think making derisive personal remarks about anyone's appearance is beneath contempt!!! read more

Chris M's review is ignorant; now I am not saying that Chris is ignorant however his review is. Ignorant: 'lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about a particular thing'. Being from Manhattan, the area where I originated from he is used to purchasing beer in convenience stores and liquor from NY State stores. Welcome to the country my judgmental friend where small family run stores still thrive and we don't publicly insult people on the internet based on a short 5 minute business transaction. Burke's is a staple of this community, they are always first to donate to local causes and is staffed primary by family who are always willing to assist. It is an older, small store and obviously can't stock everything but their prices are fair. Was easier to keep prices down before they needed to start accepting credit cards which charge 4% for each transaction. You will be relieved to know they now accept credit cards. Stay in the city dude with other rude individuals such as yourself. read more

We used Burke's Wine and Liquor for our wedding this past June! Mark was a pleasure to work with and was very knowledgeable about what we needed for our wedding. He had solid recommendations and feedback. They coordinated with the Conservatory (our wedding venue) for day-of delivery at no extra cost to us, and were willing to take back any unopened bottles after the wedding. It's a shame we live so far away, otherwise we would be there all the time! read more

First, I would like to extend my condolences to the Burke family on the passing of Karen Burke. I had not met her; her husband Randy's family were friends of my mother's family. I am so sorry for his loss. Karen must have been an incredible woman to have lived her life with grace as she managed her medical condition. May she rest in peace and my Randy and his loved ones find solace in their memories of Karen. As for Burke's Wine and Liquor; It is so heart warming to read the reviews of this family run store. It sounds exactly the same as it was when I was last there, in 1976. The service was excellent, especially when it came to wines. The prices were most reasonable and management went out of its way to recommend wines for whatever occasions and at great value. Burke's Wine and Liquors is a legend. read more

Stop! Horrible. Don't waste your money. Burkes does not accept credit cards (it is 2016 last I checked...), does not remove price tags (who puts price tags on things anyway?), horrible service (never say thank you... too busy chatting and tasting their own wines), corked taint is high risk (blew me up on three bottles already) I am done... banned. Liquor Factory only. Owner should focus less on his toupee and more on his business and customers read more

Since moving to Sparta in 1992, I have had nothing but positive experiences with Burke's Liquor, which is why I became and remain a loyal customer. For starters, their prices are always the best around and believe me I check all the time. They are very good about selling products at numerous different price points, so there is always something to fit any budget or taste. They have a great wine selection backed up by the expertise to recommend the appropriate wine for whatever the occasion and they won't hesitate to recommend a cheaper wine if they feel it's a better fit to your need. When the staff sees someone browsing the wine selection, they ask if they can be of any help and will spend as much time as needed with you or let you browse to your hearts content. No place is perfect. If you like a wide variety of beer the Liquor Factory is a better bet, but overall I can heartily recommend Burke's. read more
