It's been a very long time since we stopped in any Target, and the inside seemed pretty much unchanged. Super Targets have a full grocery (minus a bakery and full service butcher shop). We were looking for pet supplies....they have a lot around cats and dogs but nothing beyond that...so the visit I did see something that I've never seen before...somebody handing out free samples of food (two different types of Potato chips in this case) It was the lone sample display in the entire store, and of course there was no easy place to throw away the plastic cup after eating....simple souvenir I guess.

Over…read moretime, this mall has generally been a good spot to gather with a quality set of stores, though there's definitely a lot more competition nearby with good options in all of the surrounding shopping centers that cover all the different varieties of shops and restaurants. With lots of indoor malls closing nearby, this setup has become a bit more of a rarity, and personally I still like having a large spot with furniture to sit down at when I need to rest, a climate controlled area for when it's too hot or cold outside, and lots of fun spots to do seasonal pictures. With Hawthorn 2.0, I'm quite excited for what is to come. It looks like there will be a fresh set of solid anchors like Perry's Steakhouse, AMC, Dave & Busters, Macy's, etc. If this develops similarly to Randhurst, this would be a great spot to gather in Vernon Hills. Even before this is complete however, Hawthorn Mall has retained more quality tenants and has an overall cleaner and more modern look than some of the other indoor malls nearby. With the next closest similar offering being Woodfield Mall, this is still a fairly unique offering.

Mellody Farm is home to an eclectic group of stores including HomeGoods, J. Crew Factory, Nordstrom Rack, REI Co-op, Verizon, and Whole Foods. There is also a fun vibe here. Their crosswalks have entertaining cartoon and animal characters (see pictures). Mellody Farm is a great shopping center and it comes highly recommended.

As I drove into the shopping center, I thought it was really cute and a great set up. Parking was easy, it had a good vibe, and there's a nice range of shops.
