Pretty tasty spot! MY GPS had a hard time locating the shop and took my a bit of a roundabout way. They are in the plaza with the Office Depot and Joanne's. I think the easiest way to get here is right off of Falls of Neuse. They had a good variety of delicious looking baked goods. I went straight to the stuffed croissants since that seems to be what they are known for. As others have said they are like a glazed Krispy Kreme donut with filling. I tried out the raspberry, lemon, chocolate, and custard options! I think my favorite was the chocolate and custard. The fruit fillings were just too sweet on top of the already sweet pasty. This was our first time here... What I liked: Service was friendly and the decor looked very charming inside. What I didn't like: I got the Bourbon Butter Pecan Cheesecake, but it didn't suit my fancy. It had that brown sugar crumble topping that you'd expect on apple pies and some type of candied fruit within the cheescake. But I didn't sense any butter, there were just a few pecans in the topping, and definitely no bourbon... it was just a sweet cheesecake with texture and shy of authentic flavor. The store itself looks very clean and they had a fantastic assortment of different baked goods. Burney's was definitely a sweet way to start our Saturday morning. When we arrived around 9AM we were initially a little worried because the display cases were pretty empty. But we learned that if they don't have a certain flavor in the case for the glazed croissants, then they can still fill them for you. We ordered 6 of the glazed croissants, all with a different filling because there are so many to choose from! We had the lemon, peanut butter, chocolate, bavarian cream, blueberry, and apple. Of the six, my favorites were the peanut butter, blueberry, and lemon. It helped that the peanut butter one had just come out super fresh and warm and they also were drizzled with chocolate on top. So rich and decadent. And then I really like the freshness that the blueberry and lemon flavors provided. We did notice that some of the flavors had way more filling than others. Our blueberry one was completely filled (which may have been why we liked it so much), but then we barely got any filling in the apple one. So the filling level can be inconsistent. We also ordered a chocolate eclair filled with bavarian cream. It was huge and also really good. And you get way more cream to dough than with the glazed croissants. I preferred the glazed croissants, but this is a good option for someone who likes a more cream and maybe not quite as sweet of an exterior. We also tried to order one of their apple fritters but unfortunately they were out and a new batch wasn't going to be ready any time soon. So we will definitely be back at some point to try it! read more

Wow! First time at Burney's. They are new to Raleigh and have been open since February. When I walked in the manager was very friendly. I was offered a free mini glazed croissant. My LIFE was changed. If was like a doughnut, except lighter / fluffier. I then tried the honey bun. It was exceptional. Burney's is located two doors down from Stein Mart on Falls of the Neuse. I state this as a PSA because if you GPS it you might end up at Kanki instead. And for you youngsters, Falls of Neuse had a 'the' in it until some grammatically incorrect city councilmen dropped the 'the'. Anyway, back to Burney's. This new sweets and pastries place has much of what you expect at a donut shop. I've been twice now and the two stand outs are the croissant donuts that will just melt in your mouth, and the perfectly tart and sweet lemon bars. Other pastries were not anything to write home about, and I would particularly steer away from the cheesecake. Not that it didn't taste ok but for the money the size of the slice is definitely not worth it. We had a custom made birthday cake for a friend. The baker and staff were wonderful to work with, and even suggested what flavors went well together. The cake was beautiful, but more important, it was absolutely delicious. The cake was moist, the icing was like whipped cream, and the jam in-between layers put the cake over the top. We ordered two pies for our Thanksgiving dinner. Pecan pie and Apple Crumble. At $28 + or pie, we expected a really good dessert experience. Neither pie was what we expected. The pecan pie did not have any of the gooey goodness that makes a really good pecan pie. It was dry and sorta tasteless. The apple Crumb had loads of apples, but no sugary, cinnamon flavor. And the crumble topping was hard, not sweet and buttery as we expected. Very disappointed in the pies, and when you factor in the cost, extremely disappointed! Burney's is famous for its glazed croissants. They are filled to order with either a fruit or cream filling. I've had them before from the location in Smithfield, but I'm excited that one has opened in Raleigh. When my friend and I walked up to the Raleigh store, an employee opened the door for us and welcomed us. The staff are friendly and helpful. The dining area is bright and cheerful. The glass case has many yummy treats, including the croissants, cinnamon buns, cupcakes, macarons, and cheesecake (including gluten-free cheesecake). My friend and I ordered raspberry, blueberry and cream cheese croissants. We also got a cinnamon bun. The croissants are generously filled with jelly, and they all taste great. I've always had a wonderful experience as far as customer service and pricing and quality when I buy slices and individual items, however when I purchased a whole caramel cake for Sunday it was so so so much less moist than the slices I buy. Felt like I was given an older cake. The plastic lid wasn't closed either but I was told to hold it a certain way to make sure it stayed closed. Spent almost 50 dollars and would of rather had my slice experience for less. read more

Well, my first Burney's experience was almost 4 years ago I believe in Hampstead and we used to stop by weekly for our glazed croissants, both plain & stuffed with various delicious flavors! My face has always been the Bavarian Cream, which is almost like a pudding to me; and of course the classic fruit filled and icing filled are good also; but today I went to the new Burney's in Leland and I got a few newer flavors to try mixed in with some of my faves! They're so delicious that I have been attempting to get my hands on some for a few days now but but the time I get here they've been sold out! Lol The girls working at this location are very respectful,friendly, courteous,patient,and attentive! All of that absolutely makes a difference to me when it comes to me deciding if I will come back or not... I am sure it is great for a donut shop or a breakfast pastry place but what they called "ECLAIRS" were DONUTS! Just FYI: Eclairs are made of Choux Pastry. These eclairs were fried. They were DONUTS. the Cream horns were TERRIBLE. The puff pastry was NOT AT ALL flaky. It was like cardboard. Probably my mistake to think this was a traditional pastry/bakery but there were people waiting outside and they seem very popular which is good for them. I love, love bakeries, but love "real we made that here, not bought it" bakeries. Please, go and support them if you like their offerings. Their comparitive would be a grocery store (Publix, Harris Tetter) in-house bakery, not a Food Lion. It has been well over an hour, and I can't get the "super sweet taste" out of my mouth. Burney's is the opposite way around! I visited mid-afternoon and the place was not busy. I was promptly greeted and offered a sample of their staple glazed croissants. It was delicious! I purchased three glazed croissants; strawberry, cream cheese, and custard filled. All were good, but the strawberry or the regular glazed sample were my favorites! The tart sweetness from the fruit combined well with the sweet, buttery glazed croissant. The cream cheese and custard were great as well, but I feel the fruit combined better. Their glazed croissant menu boasts lots of flavors and often seems to have unique flavors like mocha or s'mores. They also sell cake by the slice, which I cannot vouch for...yet. read more
