Went to the Burrito Bar for some quick lunch but it wasn't that quick at all. They had one employee working the food line and register so everyone in line had to wait for things to be completed, start to finish. After waiting in line for about 7 minutes (bc there were 2 people ahead of me) I asked if I could have the key to the restroom and was told no, it's for customers only. I was told I could have it after I ordered my food, the lady said she didn't want to risk me using the restroom and leaving without ordering anything. Pretty frustrating but whatever I get it. Ordering my food, she asked if I wanted sour cream and after saying no she just plopped a large glob right on my burrito. I pointed out that I had asked for none and she said, "Do you need me to remake it?" Almost as if I was burdening her. I kept it, the burrito, sour cream and all. Chipotle-style build-your-own-burrito shop with a few other menu items that I haven't tried. Family owned business and nice vibes inside. I ordered a burrito bowl with Spanish rice and refried beans along with some chicken, mango salsa, and a few other toppings. It was good, but it was also forgettable. A friend said that it lacked the sodium of Chipotle and the flavors were more muted. That is a really good assessment. This little gem delivered at the highest level. It is very unassuming from outside, but inside is magical! Honestly, this is what other burrito joints dream of being. I ordered a small burrito (the large is LARGE), the small is medium. The topping choices all looked amazing. I got the carne asada with some spicy salsa and cheese. It was put together right in front of me and when I sat down and buy into it I knew I had made the right choice that day. I'm pretty sure I know what happiness tastes like now. It was the most flavor filled burrito I have ever had. Every bite made me want more. It was seasoned perfectly and the cheese and spices balanced each other like the musical sections of the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Pure joy at a great price! Yelp profile says they are open. Front door unlocked. I walk in and they tell me they are closed. I inform them their online profiles all list them as open. They didn't care. It was chipotle style serving. Perfect for getting something quick and good. We thought about trying the enchiladas but both ended up with burritos, one large and one small. Do not be fooled, neither burrito was small. I had enough leftover to have a burrito snack later in the day. We sat in the back at a big table with a lovely little avocado seed tree and enjoyed our view looking out into the damp streets. The server/cashier/burrito artist was super friendly, gave us a hook up on chips since we were dining in. Overall have no complaints of the place. Nothing beats a good burrito! The burrito bar catered an event I was having. But before taking the food, I had to try them out! I had a breakfast burrito. First off, flavors are on point! Ingredients are fresh daily! I love the fact I didn't need to season it, it was sooo good. The staff are fast and friendly, that really make you feel like family. So warm on a cold day! Lol. The entire experience was really great, from the service to the feel of the restaurant, it was all very clean, bathrooms included. Now the catering event... was a hit!!! They loved it! A small corner treasure in the Pearl. Service: Literally some of the nicest people. It feels like a family when you walk in and since it was my first time and didn't know how to order, they were kind in explaining things to me. Atmosphere: It's kind of like a "Chipotle" where you go through the line and they make your order in front of you and you can choose what you want as you go. Which is nice since you can see directly the quality of ingredients and quantity that is going into your order. Food: Carne Asada Loaded Nachos - I got everything on these loaded nachos and it was extremely worth it. I like how they do a layer of chips then queso then chips with the rest of the toppings. Normally, it's just put on top and then there's an uneven distribution of chips to toppings where the toppings run out quickly. But not here. They made sure there was a generous amount of toppings to chips and was super filling. The carne asada was also really good. Grilled Chicken Quesadilla - Humungous and delicious. Got everything available in this quesadilla and was impressed and satisfied. I'm not sure if I was just really hungry or they did something special but this was one of the best quesadillas I've had in a long time. Using a extra extra large tortilla, they stuffed it to the max and cut it in fours. Each fourth could've been a small quesadilla from other restaurants easily. Brownie - While unexpected, this might be the star of this restaurant. I know, strange that at a Mexican restaurant, brownies were offered as dessert AND it was amazing. Particularly due to personal preference as I'm partial to chocolate chips in my brownies, these were superb as brownies and I meant to share with my friend but ended up having no self-control and finishing it all by myself. May end up just coming here for brownies instead of making my own from now on. So excited to come back for another brownie and probably more nachos. read more

This spot is PERFECT if you're in town, riding through on the Amtrak train, like I was. It was a short walk from Union Station. The service was warm and friendly and the guy that made my sandwich was quick and efficient. I got a large shredded chicken burrito, which I customized, as well as a pineapple cream soda (fountain drink, try it!) This burrito was massive. At least 2 lbs of food. They had plenty of bar options that all looked really fresh and delicious. My order came to around $15, after tax and tip. Definitely a good value. The burrito was awesome. I wanted to grab a couple of burritos to bring home for dinner on a Friday night. It was pretty dead inside with just one person in the entire restaurant. The place wasn't as clean as I had hoped, considering it wasn't busy. There were napkins on the floor and food pieces all over the burrito bar. I liked the idea of a burrito bar where I could pick exactly what I wanted in my burrito, but everything looked a bit old and stale. I immediately became disheartened when the man behind the counter opened a bag of tortillas, if you have a location there is no excuse for not making your own tortillas. I could understand if they were a food cart, but they have plenty of space and that would really set them apart. I went with black beans, cilantro rice (though I didn't notice any cilantro in the rice), chicken, peppers & onions (I was given about 3 of each), guac, pico, and sour cream. I ordered a rip city for my husband, a quesadilla for my little one, and a side of chips and guac to share. The chips and guac were the best part of the meal. The chicken was pretty dry, it definitely needed a sauce or salsa and everything else was mediocre. I probably won't be back because it was a bit disappointing. Nachos and burritos are HUGE and really really good, with tons of different options of rice, beans, meats, and other toppings. Lots of different choices for drinks too. People working were super nice and friendly, and very fast. Inside had cool sports team and Portland decorations, and everything was very clean. The nachos were pretty good. I like how they warmed the shredded cheese up on top of the chips before they added the other toppings. That's usually how I make my nachos, so thumbs up for that. It was also a very large portion size; they didn't skimp out on any of the toppings either. The only thing that I didn't like was the flavor of the shredded chicken (it was a little sweet), but since it was combined with other ingredients I couldn't taste the flavor as much. Forget train food-- Burrito Bar is the place to be! Located just a few blocks from union station the is THE place to go for a warm meal. The ordering process is very much similar to chipotle-- you choose bowl/taco/burrito and then you move down the make line choosing different kinds of proteins, rice/beans, salsas and veggies. What makes burrito bar different than a chipotle is its variety. Here you can also get condiments like pineapples, mango salsa, sweet and sour sauce, teriyaki, or even nacho cheese on your burritos. The dining area also feels a little less corporate/stainless steel and a little more local. The tables and chairs have a Mexican flair and each table has bottle tapatio and a Fanta bottle filled with sand. The decorations, lighting and colors all make the restaurant feel a little bit more warm and personable. Lastly, I felt that they were generous with their portions and I was plenty filled with a single burrito bowl. You can expect to spend a few bucks more than you would at chipotle, but you will still be easily satisfied for under 10 bucks. I don't think I'd drive all the way to NW to come here but at the same time I make it an effort to stop here every time I come to the train station. I was in Portland for work and the Burrito Bar was close to where I stayed. My colleague told me they didn't care for it but the yelp reviews convinced me to give them a chance. I used to work a few blocks from this place and went to lunch here at least twice a week. I've been here a lot and have eaten my way through most of the menu. It's an interesting place. Mexican food with a Caribbean twist. Pinapple figures prominently. There's jerk chicken. It's atypical and it works. The modus operandi is sort of on the Chipotle model (which, in turn, is a rip off of the Subway model), to wit: there are a variety of ingredients behind the counter and you walk along and supervise your burrito (or salad or bowl) construction. The proprietors and the staff are super friendly and the service is great. If you're in the neighborhood you should give it a try. It's a small shop, so there's not a lot of seating in there. Tiny little place we found on a list provided for us from the hotel. In the mood for Mexican we navigated our way to this location. Surprised to see it was Caribbean flavors fused with Mexican? Does seem to be in a shady area as there are a lot of homeless people roaming around but the atmosphere inside is chill. Once inside it smelled Mexican and the gentleman behind the counter was Hispanic. He was so laidback and generous. Would go back just because of him! It's a "chipotle" style bar where you build your own dish. Lots of meat options and fresh veggies, salsas and combinations. I got a large burrito which is the size of a bag of sugar but had no problems putting it away. The homemade brownies on the counter are dense and delicious too. Stopped by this nice establishment on my way back home to Los Angeles while waiting for my train. Service was super fast and staff was helpful. I ordered the Wednesday "Bowl & Drink" special and man, they give a lot of food. I got their shredded ground beef, and though it wasn't the best tasting meat I've had, it did the job! The burritos (really, jerk-seasoned bowls wrapped in tortillas) are what gives this restaurant its name, so naturally, I went for a chicken burrito. It did not taste like chicken. Now, that could be a good thing or a bad thing, and in this case, it was definitely both. The good news is that the signature jerk seasoning and sauce took extremely well to the burrito. Between the rice and the meat, the whole burrito absorbed and distributed the flavors of the seasonings with exceptional efficiency. Not that that was strictly necessary, since there was so much sauce the burrito ended up leaving a small pool of drippings. The bad news is that the flavor of those seasonings and that sauce was sub-par to say the least. Strangely earthy and starchy, and lacking any noticeable sweetness, spice, or sourness. Now, I don't know if the flavors were just too well-balanced and nullified each other, or if everything was actually that bland, but the experience was not unlike eating mushroom paste wrapped in a tortilla. I can't really recommend a visit, unless you're a very big fan of those sorts of earthy flavors, and like juicy burritos. read more
