I was in need of a new measuring tape, bobby pins, and scissors. So instead of ordering off the internet from the rain forest I drove to Meissner. A real brick n mortar shop staffed with real people (not a Bot) within the community. It was my first time at this location. The shop was clean and organized. It had a ton of sewing machines ranging from $200 beginner models to several thousand dollar versions that self embroidery, run automatically by preprogramming. Fancy! They also had a wall of notions and a section selling fabric. The staff working were awesome. Helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with. Farah even told me about their classes that they offer onsite. They have classes on how to use certain models of sewing machines besides their sewing, quilting. and embroidery classes. So many classes offered; ranging not only on topic but skill levels. They even have a class that will introduce you to the basics on using your sewing machine. No judgements. The sewing machine doesn't have to be bought from them, if it is then the class is free. They aren't open on Sundays. And I recall the shop doesn't stay open particularly late.

I was checking out and I said to the cashier that I needed to go to my car to get my $10 off any purchase of $50 or more coupon. She told me I must be thinking about another business. I paid full price, but when I got into my car, I saw the coupon. No surprise, that's the kind of stuff I came to expect here which is why I didn't go back in to get my $10: didn't want to deal with the attitude again. I tolerated this difficult place 3, maybe 4 times total. The last time I was there the employee who stays on the floor said to me a very derogatory way. "You're always here". Well, I might be as I sew a lot but now, I drive downtown to High Fashion Fabrics to get my sewing supplies. Actually, I'm glad I was driven to find an alternative because the choices of fabrics and extras is quite vast at High Fashion Fabrics and I'm not only treated well there but have received some good sewing advice.

There was a watercoloring class going on in the front room and our class was in the back room. Our room was open and had mirrors on the walls, you can tell it can also be used for dance classes. They had tables and chairs set up around the room and we had music playing while we spent a couple hours learning to decorate cookies. Took a throwing class with Terry, who was great. He was super informative and willing to help…read morethroughout all my four classes. I ended up making about 5 pieces throughout the four classes. We glazed during our fourth and final class, meaning we had to return to find our pieces. When I came back the fifth week, my pieces were still not fired in the kiln yet. So I decided to come back in two weeks. That's where I ran into my issue. All of our completed pieces are in a separate room where the glazing happens. There was another instructor, bald lady who I believe instructs the hand throwing class, who was teaching her class how to glaze. My friend and I were looking for our pieces, trying to be as quiet as possible. However, noise is going to be made as we're rummaging through a bunch of finished pieces. There are about four separate sections where our pieces could be, so as we were going through the finished pottery pieces, someone from her class asked my friend and I to be quiet, which we were already trying to be as quiet as possible. She said that we were being rude and disruptive. However, this is just the nature of this room. People are going to be going in and out, trying to find their pieces, as they only place the finalized pieces here. This is when I expected the bald instructor to speak up but she was super rude as well. She was demeaning and condescending towards us. She talked down to us as if my friend and I were 5 years old. When we were looking through the non fired pieces, she raised her voice telling us not to touch the pieces if they weren't ours. The issue is, when you paint the glaze, not only does your piece look completely different, but the glaze is all different types of crazy colors. The only way to verify if the piece is yours is if you find your name on the bottom of the piece. So not only were we not able to verify if those pieces were ours, as the instructor was giving us attitude, we weren't able to find all of our pieces. We went back to our instructor, who was kind enough to find our pieces for us. Overall, we had a good experience but that last instructor really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm conflicted on what score to give, and really feel as though how are you an instructor when you are so rude? For sure left a bad taste in my mouth.

Sonya was an amazing instructor, she went through the whole process (several times, thankfully she was patient), and there were so many options for your candle. As far as pricing, it was very reasonable, considering you take home the custom candle you make. Bonus while we were there, they had an event on Sutter Street and we got to walk around while we waited for our candles to set up!
