They did not have them but the worker there did call another store down towards Sacramento to see if they had them. My wife loves this store. We're visiting from out of town and the shop is right across from our hotel. We've been here a couple days and my wife has been in the shop 3 times! We have a huge bag of yarn to bring home. She's planning on making blankets and scarves for Christmas. We loved their selection of yarn and the women who own the store are super nice and helpful. We especially enjoyed the clearance section because we are still new to crochet and it helps to have a wide range of types and colors to practice with. We got a punch card and whenever we are here (hopefully we will be moving back up soon) this will be our go to for yarn supplies. read more

Cute shop with lots of great yarn and friendly employees who allow you to wander and fondle the yarn at your leisure. It's well organized and even has a place in the back for classes and knit night. Everyone has been welcoming, helpful and generous with their time to help you find what you didn't know you needed. I am a long time shopper at Lofty Lou's. It is a top quality yarn store with a great range of selection from your basic wool to your fancy handdyes and more exotic fibers. It's also well organized so I rarely even need help finding anything. The comments on customer service in some of the other reviews are a bit extra - sure, not everyone pounces when you walk in the door, but we introverts appreciate that. If you do ask a question, you'll definitely get an answer and staff is willing to wind your yarn or look up patterns if you forgot to figure out what exactly you needed. But given this is a collectively owned and operated business, if you don't click with the person helping you one day, chances are there will be someone you prefer the next. read more

I had the fortunate experience of visiting Lofty Lou's in Placerville for the first time this afternoon and meeting Cynthia who is now my Crochet GURU--OMG-- she is amazing!! She set me straight on a crochet project from a 1930's crochet book that had me absolutely stumped. I was so frustrated and Cynthia set it all straight. And what an amazing store--an absolute goldmine for the knitter/crocheter/crafter--I will definitely be back!! And I might add I found the crochet thread that I needed to complete my project that I had been to several other stores and the internet and had been unable to find. Placerville yarn shop, Lofty Lou's, is on the main drag, right in the thick of things. The vibe is lively and the store is chock full of yarny goodness. I had a gift certificate, and found my favorite yarn, soft n lovely Brown Sheep wool to make the next pair of felted clogs. Staff let me know upon arrival that they were there to help, just let them know when I needed them. Perfect stop just before lunch. read more

A few weekends ago I made a point to go here to get out of the big box craft stores and the wal-mart. I've been in here before, but never have looked very seriously to purchase anything. The selection for me was overwhelming, but a lot of that has to do with me being a little green when it comes to fibers. I walked around and petted all of the pretty things with my mouth agape and eyes wide. It's tactile heaven. There service was just OK. T here was a trio of people that seemed to be very experienced and regulars, and although the clerk offered help, I felt a little out of place and not entirely welcomed. But who knows, the guys she was talking to was sort of an obnoxious know it all, maybe she was politely trying to find an out. I didn't get that feeling, but after they finally left I asked for some advice and told her I was sort of new and she helped me out. I noticed she didn't try and upsale me, and that I very much appreciate. I will definitely be back, but I do sort of hope to have a little more friendly clerk. Heck, maybe they should hire me for weekends... read more

I wanted to learn how to make a blanket and was excited to find this store. I was hoping to get some help or tips from the people that know best and buy the right materials. Due to Covid mask are required, no big deal. I walk in mask on, the lady with the short white gray hair asks me to put it above my nose, sure no problem. Except, I think she was so upset I walked in with my mask below my nose all she did was glare at me as if I'm going to steal. Never asks if I needed help and definitely didn't seem approachable at this point. They had some really nice items, I just wish the staff or that women would change their approach with customers. Unfortunately won't be going back. read more

I went in here with a friend. There were two employees at the counter. We were not greeted even though two other customers who came after us were. We were ignored while the other customers were offered help. We spent about ten minutes shopping and were ready to stand in line when we decided "to hell with it". They don't need our business. With this store's amazing selection, I want to give it a 5, but twice I've gone in for a specific high end yarn and though they have plenty of the good stuff, they didn't have what I needed either time. This is still better in every way than buying from a big box store, and for people like me who only enjoy knitting with natural fibers, the selection is nice. read more

This place is as I remember fine yarn shops in San Francisco 60 years ago....small, packed with so much to drool over, inspiration that makes me wish to be a millionaire, and the people know what they are doing and are happy to help. The new team, of which Lou is a member, is enthusiastic, creative, knowledgeable, and very customer oriented. I'm impressed with the huge variety of yarns, fibers, patterns, notions, reasonable prices, and "university" knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, and felting classes that are available. The positive, creative energy is invigorating. I love all of the events such as the grand opening, trunk show, weekly evening knitting gatherings, and Knit in Public. I am a yarn shop junkie so trust me when I say this is one of the best yarn stores I have ever visited! Very nice selection of yarn; as another reviewer noted it's a bit pricy, but no more so than any other strictly yarn store, especially considering the extensive variety of yarns from around the world. I personally have found the customer service to be consistently excellent, and I wouldn't consider myself to be a regular, so they aren't just being friendly and helpful because they recognize me. They have a nice yarn winding service (for yarns bought in-store), and I have found them to be especially gracious and helpful with knitting instructions even if you didn't buy the yarn in the store. read more
