Because I had a horrible experience with a previous chiropractor in San Leandro, I was nervous about seeing another one. My previous chiropractor messed up my upper back/neck when there was nothing wrong with it in the first place. This left me in pain for about a month before I saw Dr. Burt. After 4 sessions with Dr. Burt, he fixed my upper back/neck as well as my lower back pain from falling off a balance beam in 1997, which messed up my sacrum alignment. An incident last year reinjured my previous injury from 25 years ago. Before I couldn't stand for more than 45 minutes. This was affecting my daily life; washing dishes, vacuuming, and mopping was all too painful. Also, we had a 7-day strike about a month ago. Instead of joining my colleagues by marching around all day long, I had to sit the entire time. Because my activities were becoming severely limited, I had to do something about my pain. This was one of the worst experiences I have had with a professional. He got mad when i asked very short questions. He barked at me when i asked for clarity on the hours of business. He literally barked at me "don't call here" literally. I mentioned where I hurt and he barked at me "you just want everything fixed right now" as if i complained constantly when i just thought it would help if he knew the areas of pain i was experiencing, and I said about two sentences. I realized that he was ok as long as i remained silent. Every appt he did the same thing, put me in massage chair, put electrodes on back and cracked my neck and body. Same thing every time. He went on vacation and the interim chiropractor that covered for him gave me a completely different experience. She texted me to confirm appts. She went over every step she was doing. She let me show her where i hurt most and placed the electrodes there without barking at me with utter annoyance like dr. Burt did. She used a machine that was wonderfully helpful. Since the first time I called I could tell that Dr. Burt is a straight-forward man. He provided me with the exact cost of his services and a convenient time slot that worked with my schedule. As a matter of fact, Dr. B has the most accommodating schedule I have ever seen. The first day I visited the clinic, Dr. Burt dedicated enough time to listen to my discomfort, previous clinical history, and daily activities. After the doctor evaluated me, he explained my condition using a model of human spinal vertebrae (yes, the spine in the pictures). Furthermore, Dr. B pointed out the habits that need to improve in order for me to get better. Since the begging, the doctor let me know that 3 sessions were necessary on the same week so I could see a greater improvement. I am a student in her early 20's with terrible posture, my neck was sore from looking down at books, my pelvis was 2.5' higher on the right side, and my jaw is slightly dislocated from the removal of my 4 wisdom teeth at the same time. Dr. B adjusted my pelvis and vertebrae on the first consultation and gave me a heads up on my jaw's situation; the treatment is painful. Therefore, I decided to start adjusting my jaw on a different occasion because I needed to be mentally prepared. My overall wellness improved after the first adjustment; the doctor even recommended some homeopathic medicine to help me cope with the soreness of my body after a day full of various activities. I was already feeling better by the time of my second session, the doctor continued to adjust my neck, back, and at this time he started working on the jaw. The most invasive treatment for my jaw was performed on the third session, he started adjusting it by giving me a not-so-gentle massage and later determined that it was too much to handle in one session. I am writing this review a day after the third meeting and my cheek is slightly swollen and sore to touch. I am glad Dr. B gave me the heads up to the secondary effects of the jaw adjustment; even more grateful to know that he understands his patient's limits and prefers to work with them on the long term instead of causing more discomfort. In the future, I am definitely seeking for Dr. Burt's aid on my ongoing journey to readjusting my jaw. Furthermore, I trust him to help me maintain my newly-found bliss without neck and back discomfort. On Monday, 3/9/15, I decided to go see Dr. Burt at Burt Chiropractic Rehabilitation Center. This was the first time I've ever been to or even considered seeing a chiropracter. I sustained a back injury while lifting weights back in July, 2014. It took about 10 to 12 weeks for my lower back to start feeling normal again. About a week ago my back totally locked up on me while I was working out at the gym. Maybe dead lifting over 300 pounds the day before had something to do with it but I honestly think my lower back never healed properly the first time I injured it. It felt as if something was out of line. When my back locked up I almost fell to the ground. I was in so much pain. This lower back injury was worse than my first back injury. Dr. Burt was able to see and treat me the same day I called to schedule an appointment. Dr. Burt examined me and explained what was wrong with my back. He said I was dealing with more of a mechanical issue and the pain I was experiencing was caused by one of my pelvic bones being longer than the other which was causing unwanted pressure and tension on my lumbar spine. I already knew I strained/pulled a muscle in my lower back but I figured it had more to do with my actual spine. Dr. Burt told me the wear and tare of lifting weights for the last 15 plus years has finally caught up to me. He said I was due for an adjustment. I saw Dr. Burt for a total of 3 days, Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. Each time I was adjusted I felt better and better. My back continue to heal each day. The pain was excruciating a week ago and now the pain is literally gone. I know a strained/pulled muscle is going to take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks to heal completely but I now feel like the root cause is taken care of and my spine is back in place. After each adjustment I underwent a deep tissue massage by Gail who is the message therapist. She did a great job every time she massaged my back. She knows how to work out all the kinks and speed up the healing process if you have a lower back injury. Gail knows how to really dig deep into the muscle. I will continue to see Dr. Burt on a monthly basis to get adjusted for my overall spine health. I would definitely recommend Dr. Burt if you're experiencing any type of pain or if you feel like something just isn't right. Don't hesitate and schedule an appointment with Dr. Burt.
