This week I took my 13 yr old grandson, who is very interested in rock hounding and loves gems and mineral collections, to Burton's. My grandson got to meet John and his family. We spent 3 hours with John, his daughter Carrie and the staff. What an amazing visit. They were so nice! knowledgeable, and kind. They gave Sawyer a complete tour of the shop and shared the wonderful history and stories of many of their products: Gems, minerals, rocks, stones, meteorites, hand made Jewelry and much more. The Knowledge the folks at Burton' Gems shared was "beyond Epic" "very cool" according to my grandson. John is a living legend in the industry. They were so kind to give their time to Sawyer. We had visited The LA Zoo, Disneyland/California Adventure, and Magic Mountain this week. Sawyer was so impressed and in awe. We had a great time but I had such joy in seeing a 13 yr old young man being so excited for 3 hour, this was The most "Epic time he ever had". I loved the day as well. What does it mean to be a hidden gem? It's an expression that we all use flippantly as we go about our busy lives that are increasingly commercialized and standardized. Every so often, you stumble across something so unexpected that it leaves a mark on your day. This gem shop was exactly that. My daughter likes gems and I was looking to surprise her with a unique outing so I yelped a gem shop and stumbled across this one. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted warmly and regaled with stories of everything in the shop. It felt like a museum that was for sale. They had everything from the affordable $1 "babysitter" bin of rocks to keep the kiddos entertained, to the essentially priceless (and everything in between). The highlight for me was the vintage jewelry pieces. They were so unique and stunning in a way that modern jewelry stores simply cannot compare. If you're looking for a nice piece of jewelry to surprise someone, they can definitely help. The owners were happy to discuss details of every stone and encouraged questions from my daughter like she was on a class field trip. They delighted in letting her hold and touch things that were clearly out of her price range. My husband enjoyed the fossilized dinosaur poop, because... poop. I originally camei in to buy a diamond to have a ring made and while i am there, I asked to have my mother's diamond three band wedding ring sized. I love my mother's ring and no longer want the new ring. I will however size up to 2 carats and will use them for the upgrade. They all seemed very knowledgeable and very kind. Absolutely rude! Kept being told that they don't have the knowledge and come in when the owners there... he's only there after 3 or 3:30. Wouldn't even look at what I brought in and told me it was nothing. Wanted to charge me just to tell me why he came to this conclusion. Couldn't ask a question without being told we have to pay and he's "expensive as sh*t" really professional coming from the owner. My husband started to like opals as much as I do and incorporated it into his ring as well. We hand picked the stones, gave a general idea of what we liked and Burton's went to town. Arlo is a talented designer, and Dave Burton has an eye and craftsmanship to get such beautiful parts of the opal. I can sit there for days staring at his collection. TL;DR - Everyone at Burton's is very friendly and welcoming. You feel like part of a family when you go there. They also have so much more than just opals. You'll find yourself spending a long time just going through all they have to offer. By all means, visit Burton's!! You'll have a great time! Full story: I don't know what I was expecting from a gem and opal store. I mean, it's just a store right? Go in, buy what you want, leave. What else is there? Well... I wanted to buy an engagement ring. It had to be a specific ring too. She's not into diamonds (thank goodness!) She loves opals. BLACK OPALS. I emailed Burton's and showed them what I was looking for. Truth be told, they said they didn't offer it. I was a little bummed, but I appreciated them not trying to hard sell me on anything else. So I end up buying the stone I wanted, but now I just have a stone. What now? All I had near me were diamond stores (I was near the jewelry district in DTLA). I wasn't going to trust an opal with diamond experts. Very different stones. Not knowing where to go, I reached out to Burton to see if they could point me in the direction of how to get a ring for my stone. They said to come on in. I came in and showed them the stone I bought. They inspected it, measured it, and let me know their thoughts. They also called in their resident ring designer, Arlo, who was absolutely amazing at coming up with designs. We sat and discussed and went over a few designs he came up with on the spot. I couldn't believe he was able to pull those designs out of thin air, but there they were! We even discussed what metal to use and if I wanted some accessory stones. Finally I chose a design I was happy with. I was nervous, as I had never designed a ring before. The metal, Arlo said, was also a very particular metal, so he had a 3D printed model made before making the actual ring so we could see what it would look like when finished. It's amazing what we can do with technology nowadays. Anyway, the ring was made, the price was VERY reasonable, and they gave me an awesome ring box with a light. I was so surprised at how smooth and fun this whole process was. I proposed and she said YES, so THANK YOU to the whole Burton's family for your help! Oh wait, the story isn't done yet!! My now fiancee wanted to get the ring insured, and we needed a certified appraisal for that. Well, not knowing where to go I called up Burton once again. THEY DO APPRAISALS TOO! My fiancee and I came in and everyone at the store was so excited to see the ring being worn and were so happy to see us together. While the ring was getting appraised they all asked how it went and how she liked the ring (She loves it!). When she put the ring back on, Matt noticed that the ring wasn't as fit as it should be. Indeed, I had guessed the size off by a couple sizes. They fixed the size and now it's absolutely perfect!! Thank you THANK YOU to everyone at Burton's!! You've made our dreams come true! read more

So glad we stumbled upon this shop! Everyone here is so passionate about their craft-- what a delight. Came in September to get the opal in my engagement ring replaced; came back last week again to look for a center stone that is a little more hardy than an opal. (No fault on Burton's; I am stubborn and insisted on an opal even though they informed me that it was likely to crack. It did. My bad). Dave walked me through all the options for a tougher replacement stone; my husband and I were both drawn to a gorgeous light blue sapphire. We were lucky to have the stone replaced on the same day, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I miss my opal but the sparkle on this ring is incredible! Interesting store is filled with all sorts of geologic finds, from simple rocks that have been polished (an entire barrel-ful!) - great for kids who are into rocks and minerals! - to high end one of a kind pieces. My daughter is putting layaway payments (no interest or time limit, it seems) on an iridescent opal that is already mounted as a pendant. This store will mount your loose gems for you, or you can simply choose from pieces that are already on display. The store owner/Manager is also very friendly and dispenses factoids about many other gems in the store. Lets begin with last July in 2017 when my fiance and I were searching for my engagement ring. I didn't want the stereotypical ring most women have, I wanted something vintage and unique. A friend of ours told us about Burton's Gems and Opals next to Adventure City. I've lived in Anaheim all my life and honestly never knew this shop was there. Any who, We located the shop searched around a bit and found a ring that I absolutely loved, absolutely fairly reasonable price. The young gentleman that was helping us mentioned that they do custom rings and if we wanted to get a custom wedding band for me that form fitted my engagement ring we could! Our wedding isn't until October of 2018 so we had some time to get ideas for his and my wedding bands. Fast forward to now July of 2018 only 4 months away from our wedding day and its time for us to get the wedding bands. Same as always we walked in to the store and are immediately greeted with warm welcomes and hello's! I absolutely love the energy of the staff, they are so dedicated and knowledgeable about their work. They worked with me to decide what type of gems I wanted on my band. My fiance wanted a custom made ring with sapphires. Arlow helped him pick out the best ones to be placed at the center. Being a younger couple and needing to save money for the wedding we were able to split the payment. We paid half now and half when we received the rings. You have no idea how much that helps! 7/14/18: I received my band and OH MY GOD am I in love!!! The craftsmanship, the attention to detail and the perfect alignment made me fall in love with my ring all over again! We cant wait to pick up his wedding band next week. This store has been here since I was a kid. I have brought in my jewelry here for repairs. My 10 year old niece loves it here. There's a bunch of tumbled rocks in a bin for gem and rock collectors. I was tasked with helping my sister's boyfriend design a custom engagement ring in the style of The Legend of Zelda Triforce. I found this location on Yelp because I was searching for a custom jeweler to assist me with this. I walked in one Saturday and was happily greeted by Arlo. From the moment I walked in it was customer service all the way. He spend several hours with me over the course of this project searching for the perfect stones and creating a design from a blurry pic I found online. Over all this took several months to complete, but all the time and the massive amounts of effort on their part were worth it. The finished piece is more beautiful than I could have imagined.
