Spicy mil-myun (not the same as naeng-myun)

I've been having my lunch dates with my sister here for the last couple of week on a mission to try every single vendor in this food court. Menkatsu was our shop last week and the experience was decent. We ordered their signature Mil-Myeon dishes, one in cold slush broth and the other with spicy sauce and less broth. We also shared their original donkatsu. Mil-myeon had nice bouncy texture and both dishes with and without the broth had a very similar flavour profile of sweet/spicy/sour. They also serve spicy mustard and vinegar on the side, you can adjust the flavour to your liking. Both noodle dishes come topped with a slice of Chasu style pork, which was very "porky" tasting and we did not love it. The pickled radish slices, apple slices, cucumbers and half a boiled egg were the garnishes that added nice freshness and crunch to the noodles. We liked both noodle dishes well enough but not as much as my mom, who raved about the noodles to us weeks ago. The katsu was breaded with the in house made bread crumbs (respect!), much like the specialty katsu houses. However, the pork was much thinner so the katsu ended up with an over-cooked texture, which was unfortunate. Menkatsu is a decent option if you're craving their specialty offerings.

Soup is light but good especially during winter- quick service but its at the food court. Ambiance is just like food court in general. Price is standard around $15

Menkatsu is a lot better than your usual food court katsu restaurants. The breading was very airy yet super crunchy, and the side salad and corn were delicious. I low-key wish they would allow for rice refill like some other katsu shops though...since it is more expensive than your usual food court restaurants

Went to the food court and daughter wanted to try the cheese katsu. You might notice they have a unique way of spelling cheese as well. The staff are quick, polite but not the best at English. But that's ok. The food is good. I would give them a 4/5 on that. I only adjusted to 3 because if I'm paying these prices I can go to katsu restaurant for more rice and sides and be more comfortable. It's part of the food court and they don't do cash discount. So comment on the decor.

Its menu already shows its uniqueness: its signature ramen is shio ramen, which simply means salt ramen. Unlike other ramen restaurants that often promote their strong and heavy-flavoured pork broth, Santouka just says "salty broth." I think it really reflects Japanese culture and spirit. The chef's craftsmanship shows that using simple ingredients is enough to make flavorful food. I ordered the Shio Ramen and an Aji-tama (medium-boiled egg). It still had a very strong savoury flavour and wasn't too salty at all. To be honest, it tasted like pork broth to me. Whatever it was, it made me feel comfortable while having the ramen and after the meal. Meals at other ramen restaurants are usually too salty. Sorry, I am playing with words here, because it is interesting that the "salty broth" isn't too salty, while other broths are usually saltier. The branch in Scarborough is spacious and very suitable for dining with family, friends, or even business associates. The plaza it is in is a very competitive area for noodle cuisine. You can add Hokkaido Ramen Santouka to your radar the next time you go there.

We both ordered the Shoyu Tsuke-men - soy sauce flavour dipping noodles with bits of pork and pork fat and a soft boiled egg. I really liked the texture of the thick noodles and found the soup very flavourful. Portion was also generous. This pictured here is only the regular size! I would definitely come again for a quick meal. The soup ramen also looked great though I noticed it was a much thinner noodle.

The restaurant was at a busy location, which was the end of the driveway, everyone sees it before making a turn. The staff was nice when we walked in. We were greeted and directed to a corner table where was better with a baby. We showed them 2 coupons, 1 for ramen and 1 for fried chicken. The staff needed to talk to the owner about them. After a few seconds, she came back and said only 1 coupon per visit. We were a bit disappointed, because we were so hard to dine out with a baby, and not able to come again with a long drive and a baby. We talked to their owner, he was nice to let us try both at the same time. Oh yeah! So we have 1 original ramen with black garlic oil, and 1 tomato base. It won't take long to wait. The fried chicken came first, it was not like the breaded chicken, it fried from original, but after marinated; it has taste, but not salty. The 2 ramen came at the same time. They both really rich, but not so salty, because the salt level could be altered; the noodle size could be chosen as well, we did 1 thick and 1 thin. They both looked similar. Overall, the ramen and the chicken all looked good and tasty. I would like to come again if next time I come around this area, even though they were a bit pricey.

At first the broth wasn't that impressive, but it definitely grew on me as I ate. I loved the flavour on the chashu (none of that bland unflavored pork here) and the shiitake mushrooms were also marinated very well (though they were a bit on the sweet side). Don't be fooled by the photo - there is a lot of noodle in there! They also offer a free kids meal deal for kids under 12 with an order of two bowls of ramen, which is pretty nice if you're eating out as a family.

I'm a tad surprised that this Kinton Ramen got not-so-stellar reviews as of late. In contrast, I had a fabulous experience. My worst experience at any Kinton has been its Richmond Hill location. Staff got my order wrong, fished out bamboo shoot that I clearly stated that I didn't want, and did not care if I may or may not have a food allergy by giving me the same bowl of ramen. I had come to CF Markville Mall to pick up an order at Swarovski. I used mall entrance 1 to get there. I passed by this Kinton Ramen on my way over. I was ready for an early dinner. It was probably 4 pm on a Monday. I drove over here from my workplace in Mississauga. I thought that it would be great to give this eatery a try. The only downside is that you don't have mall access to this eatery. If you're in the mall, you have to to exit it through entrance 1 and then use the separate Kinton Ramen entrance. It's a bit inconvenient. I'd probably be more annoyed if I had a ton of shopping bags full of goods and winds were at 80 km/h for me to exit the mall and get into this eatery. Luckily, it was a nice day and I had a small bag. I entered the eatery and was greeted immediately by a female staffer. I asked for a table and got one with a view of Churchill's Cigar and Gift. It was also fun to people-watch as I ate. I looked at the menu. The burnt shoyu ramen looked good. I lucked out, as this ramen was a part of a Kinton combo. Yes! I got these items as part of my combo: - Sparkling yuzu lemonade - Pork gyoza (4) - Burnt shoyu with thick ramen and corn I got a cup with cold water. It was refreshing and much needed. It was refilled regularly. I am a fan of sparkling drinks. I love yuzu. Put them in a lemonade and I am happy. The sparkling yuzu lemonade was excellent. Yuzu has a more subtle lemony flavour that is so refreshing. It felt fancy having fizzy lemonade. I loved this drink so much. The pork gyoza came out next. I got four of them. They were deep-fried. The pork filling was yummy. I loved my bowl of burnt shoyu ramen. The thick ramen noodles were chewy and perfect. The chashu was delicious and flavourful. I loved the dry seaweed, corn, jammy egg, scallions, bean sprouts, and garlic chips. There was a mild burnt flavour to the pork broth that was nice. I couldn't fit dessert in. I was stuffed. I paid my bill at the table with a credit card. I tapped the machine with my card and was done. I used the washroom before I left. It was fancy, from the sink, to complimentary mouthwash. As I was leaving this eatery, I saw a pickup window for takeout orders. It was cool. I like this Kinton a lot. Staff were friendly and competent. The food and drink were excellent. I'll be back. They have a wide variety of choices to choose from. I ordered a beef original with thin noodles and no onions. The soup was tasty but portion was very small. There weren't too much noodles and it comes with just two slices of meat. To be honest, it wasn't quite filling. For the price, I think I would've probably prefer to eat something else instead. In my opinion it's not worth it unless there's a decent promo. I don't see myself coming back as often as I like to due to overall pricing and portion.

Initially looked busy and thought there may be a wait, but the line was actually for the dessert place that shares the same entrance. I usually switch up my order between the Clam Ramens (shio and shoyu). Can definitely say that these are always made consistent (at least on every visit I've had), so there's no surprise. My friend ordered the Avocado Vegetarian Ramen as part of a set. We were both intrigued by the taste of the broth. It was creamy, but not super thick, and had a fresh, vegetal taste. One miss this time was that my friend ordered a drink, but unfortunately it did not come out at all while we ate. We mentioned it when asking for our bill and asked that it just be cancelled, which the server was apologetic about. Interior is kept clean, which some table seating along both walls and also a long high-top bar (communal) in the middle. I've…read morebeen disappointed by countless bowls over the years, from Michelin-recommended shops in New York to overhyped social media darlings that make you wonder whether the people promoting them have ever had truly great tonkotsu ramen. Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. Even so, this is a very respectable bowl of tonkotsu ramen and one I'd happily order again.

I was initially reluctant because my previous experiences at this resto made me think that Ajisen as a franchise was just ok overall. Steak teppanyaki: Was actually cooked medium rare! Black garlic tender pork ribs ramen: So you can change your broth at Ajisen which is pretty cool. This was supposed to come w/ the original broth but I asked to swap for black garlic tonkotsu broth. The noodles were surprisingly firmer compared to my previous visits and the broth actually came out piping hot as opposed to lukewarm. Idk if they just hired new/better chefs in the back or if late night is when they serve the best grub. Either way, I received significantly better food than the last couple times I visited this place way back. The other thing I really liked was the tableside fried garlic that you could top up your bowl with. I literally unscrewed the lid and emptied out a third of the fried garlics into my bowl. SOOO GOOD. Although it was an improved experience, I still don't think the ramen is better than an authentic ramen spot. For that, I award 3.5 stars.
