Dr Michael Higginbotham and Taylor Munn took great care of our girl. They are very attentive to their patients' needs and they care about the pets they treat. Friendly, professional, and helpful staff. My dog was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. I chose to take him home. on comfort care. The meds they gave were unacceptable & he was restless all night. I am highly disappointed in this care and would strongly encourage people to seek a differing physician. Not companionate and beyond disappointing care. read more

The staff and doctor here are fantastic. They were kind and sympathetic to my concerns and thoroughly examined my boy to help figure out what was hurting him. I initially didn't want to do pricey diagnostics, and I appreciated that they were low pressure and understanding of financial considerations. When I did elect to do the MRI, they got him in same day and took great care even wheeling him out to the car so he could get home safely. read more

A professional vet in every sense of the word. The place looks more like a furnished apartment than a cold clinic. Every member of the staff was compassionate and obviously loved the animals they've seen. They made me feel welcome and respected. Dr. Indrieri was a very friendly, thorough vet. He was able to explain to me in simple terms what was going on with my dog and offered options on how to proceed with treatment. I drove an hour and a half to get there to diagnose my dog and was not disappointed. My family and I cannot thank Dr. Young and his staff enough! He saved our girl Mae from the pain she was enduring because she had a spinal fluid sac on her spine that was causing her to lose complete control and movement in her hind and back legs. Mae is our 11 year old pug and is our baby girl who means everything to us, and when Dr. Young showed us Mae's MRI results that they can do right there in the office, we put our complete trust in he and the staff at BVNS to get her through a successful surgery. We just had our 6 week follow up appointment with them today, and Mae is doing amazingly well! From the time you walk into the door, Emelia is there to greet you with a smile and immediately put you at ease. I have never left a review in my entire life, but for this circumstance, I certainly will. I have NEVER experienced such terrible service and communication from a veterinary office before in my life. Even working for YEARS in the emergency clinic setting within veterinary care I have never seen such neglectful and irresponsible behavior. My cat Kai, was referred to Bush neurology from my vet at school back in Charlottesville. Kai has been suffering for the past 2 months, a consistent decline in his neurological health and can no longer hold himself up or walk due to extreme weakness on his right side. Now, I had inquired with both my regular vet and the emergency clinic I had gone to regarding updating his rabies vaccine while he was in their care, and they both believed that due to the severity of his symptoms and it having been longer than 10 days since symptom onset, that they do not feel comfortable vaccinating him at this time. I set up my appointment with BUSH NEUROLOGY as a referral in order to have him seen, and made it very clear that Kai was not up to date on his rabies vaccine. The doctor confirmed his comfort in still seeing Kai. Due to school, I had to reschedule to today, Tuesday 11/9/2021. I drove over an hour in order to have him seen. The veterinary technician I spoke to was lovely. I then received a phone call about 10 minutes later from the receptionist, her name started with an E, who had now told me that nobody in the office was comfortable treating Kai and they are refusing care to my animal. This was the same receptionist I had initially scheduled his appointment with. I was rightfully very overwhelmed that they were not going to see my cat, and before I could even truly get any information from this receptionist, she hung up on me. Distraught, and extremely sad I called back. The receptionist then informed me that "there is nothing else she can do for me and to wait for a call from her manager". I then tried calling back a third time, in order to inquire about their ability to vaccinate Kai in their facility if it is that necessary since my rDVM would not do so. THEY IGNORED MY PHONE CALL. The woman at the desk did not think to apologize, or offer any kind of explanation from a veterinary technician or doctor considering the mistake THEY made with scheduling and the miscommunication that occurred amongst their staff which caused me distress, and my animal who is already suffering, distress. We did not have a positive experience with Bush Neurology, and while Bush is pretty much the only pet neurologist in the area, I still want to provide this feedback so that Bush can improve their customer service experience. Several less-than-ideal interactions we had with Bush were: -We received a call from Bush to discuss prescription refills. My partner was at the office and asked if he could call back in a half hour (still very much within their business hours) to provide pharmacy information. When he called back, he received a voicemail indicating that the office was closed. We needed a prescription that day and did not receive one until the following day. -My partner was designated as the primary point-of-contact for our pet. I received a voicemail providing me with instructions about my pet's medication dosage. Not only was this information not provided to the primary care-taker, it was given in a voicemail, which I may or may not have received before it was time to provide medication. -Our pet was having a very difficult few days, and when I called Bush to see if I could speak to a vet, I was first given unsolicited advice from a receptionist about our pet's condition and then told I would receive a call back from a vet. Two hours later, I received a call from a vet tech, who provided me with a quick response to one of the problems I had described. I communicated that we were very concerned about our pet's condition and that we had multiple questions that we would like to discuss that day regarding end-of-life care. I was repeatedly told that my doctor was not in that day, given more unsolicited advice from the vet tech about my pet's medications, and told to schedule an appointment for the next day despite repeated requests to speak to a vet. We were told that Bush was our primary care provider for the duration of our pet's illness, but this interaction did not display a commitment to care. We then followed up with our normal vet (not Bush), who fit us in and answered all of our questions that day. -The following day, I received a call from a vet at Bush that was a half-hour later than our scheduled appointment time. The vet then recommended giving a dosage that our pet was already receiving (indicating a lack of knowledge of our pet's plan for care). I would expect that an office that regularly deals with patients receiving end-of-life care would have a more positive customer support experience. My pet recently had back surgery to remove a ruptured disk. Dr. Indrieri, Mark, and entire staff were wonderful. Very caring and I'm so happy to say surgery was a success. Highly recommend. Great to know such expert services are available if you need them. read more

I have been a client here since March 5, 2018, following the "miraculous" finding of my cat, who had escaped through an open window and braved this past horrendous winter weather for 55 days. When she was found, she was malnourished (she'd lost ~9 pounds), blind, couldn't use her hind legs, and was literally a shell of what she had previously been. The emergency veterinarian that I brought her to (we do not live in the area) referred me to Bush for a neurology work-up, where an appointment was quickly made for me to bring her in the next morning. Dr. Higginbotham, Rachel, Heather, and everyone associated with her visit and follow-up were and remain amazing to work with! Three weeks later, my sweet girl has regained most (all?) of her eyesight, has gained back several pounds, and "races" (tries to race) around the house as if she has full use of her hind quarters. As someone who worked for eight years at the Virginia Tech Veterinary Hospital (Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine), I say with confidence and appreciation that my cat and I were treated with excellent medical care and concern, empathy (where difficult and costly decisions --an MRI-- were necessary) and true compassion. I recommend Bush and am grateful for the specialty service that they were able to provide to my sweet girl during a very emotional time. read more
