This was Bentleys first visit to the vet and it was awesome. Hannah the receptionist was hands down the best. So welcoming, full of info, patient had great customer service. The vet was very clean and organized. Also super quiet. Making an appointment is quick and easy and the app makes life a little less hectic. Right after his appointment I received all info from the visit in my app along with his updated vaccination info. I love information at your finger tips. The location is close to our home and main roads. Parking in the shopping center was reserved for customers of the vet which was extremely pleasant. Dr Braunstein had a wonderful personality and gave great info. So happy to have found our vet! read more

I went to this place because there was a free exam on Facebook. It stated. The doctor never even looked in my dogs ears never even looked in her eyes. She's a senior of 10 years old and has a funny hue in her eyes almost like a bluish haze. She never did a once over honor her. She just looked at me told me she needed a dental work, which that's what I inquired about and it would cost $2500 and they had a payment plan and then $800 a tooth. They also gave me a list which my dog had just had all her shots. I only had her a couple of weeks. She had all her shots. She was up-to-date with everything And she wanted to do extensive bloodwork for $599. She had a list of things that added up to over $800 to do to the dog. It was like a mill there the dogs were dogs just in and out. It's a money making racket over there. And when I left there, it was such dirty and disgusting place that I took my clothes off at the washing machine and wash them and took a shower. I have never been to a veterinary hospital that was so disgustingly dirty! If I could've given him a zero I would've. Because I didn't feel like anyone in that place cared about my dog at all! When I go to see a veterinarian, I expect someone who is extremely knowledgable, up-to-date on information, is willing to explain my pet's condition in a way I can understand and treats me professionally. If you also strive for the same kind of veterinary care, then the clear option is to use Springfield. I breed dogs and the provide comprehensive services for breeding, delivery or C-section, and care of the newborn pups. I have used them for at least 15 years. I do think their prices are on the high side, but this is definitely the situation where you get what you pay for. read more

Where do I even start??? VCA is AMAZING I couldn't recommend them more! My pup Jade has been seeing Dr. Mays and shes been absolutely phenomenal! I mean the whole staff here is awesome, everyone knows Jade by name, and Jade LOVES everyone here!!! Super informative, they tell you everything they are about to do BEFORE they do it, that way you wont end up spending more than planned. Definitely recommend you NOT use this veterinary service. The staff is very rude and in not responsive in a timely manner. While I was waiting for an appointment, one of the staff members went into her car and appeared to pass out. Pricing is well out of normal range. The veterinarian does NOT put you and your pet first - more interested in putting you in your place and not showing any empathy or understanding. Spare you and your pet the unnwelcome atmosphere and totally rude service. read more

My cat stopped eating and the vet tried to get me to spend $4,000 (they offered NO payments plans) to hospitalize her or euthanize her. I kept asking if there's a cheaper way to help my cat, and they finally said I could syringe feed her myself from home (which was like $500). Nothing was covered by the expensive care club plan I was enrolled in. She wasn't getting better after spending more and more money on tests, and the vet recommended I euthanize her. I said there has to be another option and I was finally referred to another vet in midlothian. They wanted to charge me more money too to run some tests, which I paid for some of the tests, some I opted out of because they were unnecessary and just a way to take money from concerned pet parents. One day my cat started eating out of my dog's food bowl, and I realized she stopped eating around the time I changed her bowls from ceramic to plastic. I changed her bowls to ceramic and she started eating as normal. I say this because vets are not checking for little things like this, as cats are finicky creatures. Instead of eliminating any root causes, they expect you to pay a HEFTY fee to hospitalize a cat or euthanize them if you don't have the money to cover their expensive fees. It makes me wonder how many other pet parents had to euthanize their animals needlessly due to a vets poor recommendation. I was faced with my cat's mortality, crying for days, taking days off work, preparing myself to cope with her no longer being here (a cat I've had for 10 years) because my vets were clueless and just wanted money. Wonderful staff. Buddy, my orange tabby, was not exactly thrilled with the idea of being handled by strangers and getting shots but he settled down. We got him home no worse for the wear. Went there because my dog split a nail and needed it removed. This wasn't the first time my dog had done this so I had become familiar with what needed to happen/ how much it cost. My usual vets office was booked up and I came here for convenience sakes. The staff was nice to my dog and that was the only thing positive that came out of the visit other than getting his nail off. When I got the bill it was $500+. My jaw dropped as at my old vets office it only cost $180 for the exact same procedure. Then 7 days later they asked for a check up to make sure his nail had healed properly. That was another $75 down the drain just for the vet to say "looks good". So in total I spent $600+ just to get my dogs split nail removed. Lesson of the day: it's worth waiting and paying a little extra for a sit in appointment at your normal small company vet, because this place charges too much for their services. read more

Horrible customer service. I have been coming to this facility since 2016. I get erroneous notices for vaccinations that are not due. I tried to get my sick dog seen for a skin condition that they had treated in the past. I was turned away and offered an appointment in two weeks. The receptionist is disrespectful and she has no interest in having animals treated. I pay nearly $2000 annually for their pet car program for my dogs but all I get are annual vaccinations. Who needs a veterinarian that is not available to treat you animal when they are sick? I'm finding another vet. read more

The most AMAZING vet service. I'm not from the area and they didn't treat me like an outsider though I wouldn't be an regular customer. They were able to squeeze my cat in for a checkup with short notice. They took their time both over the phone and in person. The staff also looked at ways I could provide immediate and long term care for my cat and are sending the information to my home vet. They didn't try to price gouge and looked at ways to save me money. I wish I could find a vet like them back home. read more

Unfortunately not a cat friendly vet. We have a very sweet, but definitely the definition of a scaredy cat, who has regular vet visits at a Quioccasin Vet Hospital (cannot recommend that business enough, we love them) and has never had complaints of behavioral issues. However, he has to be sedated to get groomed here and we were told he should also be drugged the night before and morning of by us in the future. I would imagine most cats that get groomed here would also have to be sedated after learning that they are groomed in the same room as the dogs. This seems like an incredibly poor choice and causing undue stress for my cat; who has no history of behavioral problems at the multi-animal vet previously mentioned. Seeing as grooming is already stressful for cats, doing it in the same room as the dogs and stranger cats seems absolutely absurd and of course my cat will have some heightened grooming anxiety. If you don't want to have to drug up your pet to safely groom them, go anywhere else. Will never be returning as they also charged us for a physical exam "by their doctors" despite him having had a checkup 2 weeks ago. Only go here if you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money for rude customer service, poor treatment of your cat, and being insanely overcharged for it all. read more

I have been taking my dog Floki there since the day he was found as a puppy on the side of the road in Nc. Since Covid I've lost my job barely scraping by, they will not work with you and they do not warn you they'll need more money (after having to quit the care club, big waste of my money) they got angry and wouldn't let me pick up his heartguard and flee and tick along with apequel (for allergies). This is very disturbing and now I can see why my favorite vet left, I would NOT recommend this place and I'm trying to save another persons heartache if they love their pet. First, let me say this experience was purely personnel lack of experience. We have been in Richmond for thirty days in a critical care unit with our son. Our Yorkie is on a special Hill ID dog food prescription only and we had used the last of it. We called and asked if they would pull our prescription with VCA in Myrtle Beach, SC and let us come by and pick up a couple of cans. The clerk told my wife we would have to get it ourselves they did not communicate between other VCA's. We called Myrtle Beach twice and acquired a prescriptions. We called VCA again of Staple Mils Rd and she gave us her email address and said send it over. We forwarded the prescription as ask saying we would be on our way. I walked into the lobby in an open dog food area looking at about 400 cans of Hills to make my selection. She spoke across the counter in the office cube asking rudely what did I think I was doing. I said I am picking out two cans of dog food. When I turn she was out of the cube walking out toward the back of the building. I stood at the corner for 10 minutes to be told she had to have it approve for me to buy. Everyone understand we are talking about two $5.13 cans of dog food picked up in their lobby. I asked how long would that take and she told me she didn't know. I reached in my pocket and pulled out a $20.00 bill when she abruptly grab for the cans of dog food. She got one and I retained one. I told her there's $20.00 for a can and left. She never mentioned anything about any approval process and waiting for a can of $5.13 dog food picked up in the lobby from a shelve. The most disappointing aspect was from her homeless dress and nose ring. This teen ager has not been trained in the communications required to purchase a $5.13 can of dog food. If your going to require security keep the dog food in the back and not exposed to the public to buy. Last resort is tho require a professional attire and train your employees. read more

Pets First is home to two of the very best vets in Richmond. Dr. Rao and Dr. Thompson are both incredibly knowledgeable, caring, and personable veterinarians. They adhere to the highest standards, but know how to work with clients to ensure they explain all medical conditions and treatment needs thoroughly. Dr. Thompson is also certified in Veterinary Acupuncture and some holistic care methods, which is an added plus. Even though I now live in DC, I drive my pets to Richmond to go to Pets First unless it's an absolute emergency that has to be dealt with in DC immediately. read more

My dog and I were in a bad car wreck. My pets vet office closed and we didn't have a regular vet. PAH is near my house so I decided to take her there. My first interaction was awful. The receptionist interrupted me twice. She offered no concern about either me or my dog. She wouldn't make an emergency appointment and only offered one three days later. She said that it is probably a bladder infection. I asked her qualification for the over the phone diagnosis she said that she was a vet assistant! Final straw. She asked my "cat's" name! I took my very sick cat in this past week. Everyone, from the receptionist to the tech to the vet was amazingly nice. Unfortunately, my baby didn't make it - and the vet helped me make one of the most agonizing decisions of my life, which was to put him down. I was a mess - crying harder than I ever have in my whole life, but everyone was SO nice and helpful. The vet even took over 10 minutes to talk to my boyfriend on the phone to explain the situation and what the best solutions were. I admit this was one of the worst experiences of my life, but the people who helped me were top notch. They even let me take up an exam room for a couple of hours while I waited for my boyfriend to come and say good-bye to our cat. Finally, today I received a card from them - a hand written sympathy card from everyone in the clinic, complete with my cat's paw print on it. I am so grateful to this clinic, and will be certain to bring my other two kitties here from now on. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO VCA PETS FIRST! Their billing practices are unethical and the Better Business Bureau will be notified. Dr Mays seems like a lovely person, but the office is run very unprofessionally. My records transferred in showing my cat had a 3year rabies vaccine due to expire in 2017. The receptionist literally told me "there is no 3 year rabies vaccine for cats" as the explanation why I was charged for an additional vaccine in 2016. The dental exam was over $1500...but it's half the price if you sign up for a yearly health plan plus 30 other services. Now after pulling 5 teeth, and 4 required "follow ups", this year's dental quote was $1200. Why? Because, "to examine a cat's teeth you have to sedate it which requires blood work and a chem panel." Are you serious! My cat was so scared to go back she wets herself as soon as she's in the car. That never happened at Allied Animal Hospital. Never! VCA Pets First should be your pet's LAST choice. Don't believe me? Ask the two other veterinary clinics in the area. It's very rare that one vet hospital will talk negatively about another. But in this case, I'm glad they told me the truth before I invested another thousand dollars in something that shouldn't have been more than 75 bucks OMG! When it comes to my cat's health, I don't split hairs over price. But with such a large difference (plus the inability to give antibiotics and anxiety medication intravenously) you have to wonder just how competent of a practice this place is. read more
