Was passing through town and had this place bookmarked, it was a great lunch destination. The other reviews are right on. It was a good menu for me and two high school kids. The local sourcing of the ingredients was good to see. We had the ham and Munster on panini and it was one of those times that they hit the perfect grilling point. The turkey salad sandwich was also a good (cooler) summer option. The seasoned fries were yummy, and the staff was friendly. Total for 3 was $34 including vintage sodas and a giant brownie. Didn't spend much time in the store portion, but the place had a lot of character. Will definitely become a regular stop when I pass through. read more

This places serves delicious, fresh food. Servings are the right size and I feel great after eating here. I've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. I've brought my family here from out of town and they loved it too! My grandpa said he loves that they use actual cuts of meat for the sandwiches - not processed deli meat. If you are in Beloit, I would definitely stop in here for lunch or to pick up some tasty beer, snacks and pickled goods. I am from SF and it definitely has a cool and hip vibe. We've been there twice and both times it was very tasty. My only complaint is I would like the Powerhouse salad to be more tossed and bite sized pieces or on a bigger plate or bowl. It was beautiful and tasty with hard boiled eggs, garbanzo beans, gorgeous tomatoes, corn and chicken. The chicken pieces were big and the plate was overflowing, so it was hard to toss. My son and I spilled a lot off our plates. An easy fix so not deducting stars for that. The grilled cheese and wheat was tasty as well as the kale and bean soup. The food is clean and light. Being from San Francisco, the prices seemed very fair for such quality ingredients. The service was top notch both times I was there, even though they were slammed with college move in. They helped me picked local beers according to my tastes and the lovely girl at the counter had to deal with college parents coming in at the end of move in day and the kitchen was closed. The parents were already emotional and not very happy. She kept her calm and tried to accommodate as much as possible with recommendations to other restaurants. You won't be disappointed. This seems like a pretty cool place to hang out with the college crowd. I went to lunch with a friend and had the fish tacos 3-4 months ago, they were somewhere around $10, which I thought was pricey, but then when tasting the tacos, I thought they were nothing special, just a little on the bland side. My friend also got the fish tacos and seemed very happy with them though. Everyone's taste buds are different. I did jump online before posting this review and didn't notice the fish tacos were on their menu as a "staple" item, so maybe it was a summer special thing. Maybe the tacos was a temporary thing like the Shamrock shake or the McRib. Love this Beloit gem! This place is foodie paradise! Tons of pickled veggies, local craft brews (including New Glarus small batch 4-packs & 0.75 liters!), honey, coffees, teas, etc. Such a cute space with plenty of inviting seating to sit down and stay for awhile. There are more comfortable seating areas (couches and chairs) for curling up with a good book or conversation, a few tables outside when the weather is nice, and some tables that are great for getting some work done on your laptop. The staff is extremely friendly and they offer a variety of coffees, teas, and food selections. I love how many side choices there are and how many veggie-friendly options they have. My husband had a meeting here, so I tagged along to check it out. They have such a welcoming and comfortable vibe going. It was fun to peruse the gourmet products and shelves of books; their prices are a touch higher than most stores that offer the same stuff in Madison, but there's also much more competition in Madison. Our food was fresh and well-prepared. I agree with other reviewers - the portions are not large, but definitely filling! I loved trying the beet ketchup and tomato jam that accompanied my sandwich. Also, their iced drinks were especially refreshing. While he tended to his meeting I enjoyed the speedy wifi and read my book. I stopped in yesterday and purchased a club sandwich to go. I did not want a side, and I did not receive a discount for not taking a side. In addition, I asked for mayonnaise on my club sandwich. I was given two packages of mayonnaise. It was not applied to the sandwich. The sandwich was dry, messy and tasteless. The chicken was dry, the ham was dry, the bacon was dry, the bread was dry, the lettuce was limp and the tomatoes were mealy. Completely unacceptable to have mealy tomatoes in August in Wisconsin. It was a loose, messy sandwich. Plus it took 15 minutes to make? I don't know how you can make such a crappy sandwich and have it take 15 minutes to make. And it was $10. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Went there for lunch this past Saturday with my 9 yr old daughter and her friend. Each of the girls got the kids cheeseburger and I ordered the Italian panini. We waited 45 minutes for our order to arrive. The two girls were absolutely starving by the time the food was served. I cut my daughters burger in half and glad I did so. The knife was covered in blood. Her burger and her friend's burger were completely raw in the middle. They offered to take it back and re-cook them but I decided I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes so they kindly refunded the 2 burgers and I packed up my panini to go. I ate my Sandwhich in the car as I drove to get Subway sandwhiches for the girls. Now I wouldn't bother leaving a bad review if the story ended there, but I have since come down with food poisoning and due to the timeline of things ( I'm a microbiologist so I know) I am 100% positive it was that /$@$) panini. I wish we had one of these around Chicago. This is such a great place, chock full of delicious stuff. They even have ketchup made from beets and their very own farm They have every vegetable you can imagine pickled in bottles. Great little restaurant too with great sandwiches (love the egg salad), the obligatory WI cheese curds and healthy but hearty breakfasts. We stop here almost every time we had up to lake cottage in Oconomowoc and stock our place with lots of healthy nibbles, breads, spreads, etc. for weekend guests. Love this place! read more

Adorable spot in humble Beloit. We were passing through and were going to stop here for breakfast but it got too late and found it was surrounded by a beautiful farmers market (Saturday). There were food trucks which ruined my chances of eating here :-(So even though I only got the mint lemonade which was wonderful on the warm day, I loved the set up and all the lovely homemade canned items, honey, jams, cheeses, hotsauces etc. The little place is quite impressive and quaint. I loved the feel, the staff was attentive despite the busy atmosphere and plenty of parking in the back. Who knows? I may be wandering through Beloit Wisconsin again and come here again to enjoy the chocolate chip pancakes that looked so good. Sweet country feel and great variety for a farmers market style place. Had high hopes given the reviews but found our lunch just "okay". Brisket reuben tasted okay but so poorly constructed it was impossible to eat as a sandwich. Definitely give it 4 stars for Beloit. A combo specialty market, restaurant, coffee shop, and social gathering place, Bushel & Peck's has a little something for everyone. Highlights include the fish taco plate for lunch, black bean burger for dinner (add the beet ketchup - makes for a great taste combo), and trivia night on Thursdays, where people from 7-70 show up to test their knowledge on subjects both familiar and obscure. For whatever reason this place continues to disappoint. From our first visit over a year ago until now it went from my must go spot to, do we really want to try again? Ate 4 bites of my meal before giving up on their 'bistro night' spare ribs. Spare ribs were clearly suffering from 'death by boiling'. They were rubber, as in my knife had difficulty cutting through it, rubber. The carrots accompanying the ribs were 1/2 cooked and rawish in the middle. Polenta lacked any flavor and might as well have been corn meal. Prior to dinner we spent several minutes trying to find a non "reserved" table. Room full of empty tables, no where to sit. Chose to sit outside, went in to get water, all out of water. Took informing two employees to get it refilled by a nice guy hustling his tail off to get stuff done. Several other employees moving at 1/2 speed couldn't care less about the crowded restaurant. B&P is a great idea, and when they execute its 5/5, but the last 3 times I've been horribly disappointed. If I'm rating the store I give it 4/5, great products from awesome jam to pickled peppers, but for $45 I expect more than bad service, over cooked ribs, under cooked veggies Sadly I think this was my last visit read more

I travel to Beloit for business a couple times a year. This time decided to use Yelp to help me find a new place for dinner. Decided to try out B&P's. It was a Monday evening, so very quiet. This establishment is quite interesting...wasn't expecting such a forward thinking place with the combination of small grocery focused on local food...and a cafe with a great menu. Was immediately pleased to see the variety of soups available..and wanted to try the Badger Burgers...I'm really a fan of innovative burgers...with lots and lots of taste. I was pleased with the quality of the food, and the laid back nature of the cafe. This wasn't one of the nights where activities are planned...so it was quiet. But for something a bit different....I'll stop by when I'm in town again. read more

For some reason, a friend really likes this place, so I've been there quite a lot, giving it far more chances than I normally would (the sacrifices we make for our friends, lol). Bottom line - B&P is hit-or-miss. When they get it right, it's good. Not delicious, or scrumptious...but good. Here's the rub - the portions and preparation are crazy inconsistent. If you order cheese curds, they may come with enough to share with the table...or not. I'm always specific with my order indicating I don't want the "side" order, I want the large order of curds to share with my friends, but more than once, they have brought out a tiny condiment bowl with a few cheese curds...to share. It makes it even worse when you look to the table beside you and see the soup-sized bowl, piled high with cheese curds that came as the "side" for their meal. I've witnessed and experienced, over and over, one person getting a regular portion, and another getting almost nothing. I even attended one of their farm to table dinners. My bowl had an appropriate portion, but my neighbors bowl had about 1/3 of what mine had. Not right. Let's see, what's next - oh, their salads. Eh. They are generally loaded with blandest lettuce/greens available, and are piled onto a plate that is so small you cannot cut it or spear a bite on your fork without making a lot of it fall off the plate onto the table. The so-called "beet salad", is their regular salad with a spoonful of pickled beets on the edge of the plate. I don't know anyone (other than B&P) that would call that a "beet salad". The chicken on the chicken salad was dry and tough. The regular salad is, well, regular and blah. Carrots and celery are cut as though they are going on crudité platter, and cutting them into bite-size pieces takes us back to the issue of tiny overloaded plate that spills everything onto the table. I gave their salads 3 times at bat, and they struck out every time. They make a decent vegetarian chili, but I can't tell the difference between their vegetarian chili and their beef chili - if there was meat in it, I couldn't find it. So, let's talk about breakfast. Mmmm, breakfast! I love eggs benedict, and they offer some really interesting options. No matter what else is good on it, when it comes to eggs-bene, if the eggs aren't poached properly, it's ruined. I've ordered various versions of their eggs benedict, and one time (just one), the eggs were poached. The other times, they were basically misshaped hard-boiled eggs. Ugh! No more eggs bene for me (at B&P). What else can you have for breakfast? Their specialty French Toast offerings can be good - sometimes. On some days, they slice the bread to a thickness that allows the egg mixture to reach the middle and to be cooked, other times it's so thick that the middle of the French Toast is either dry, or if the egg mixture got in, still raw. So, time to try something foolproof - like oatmeal. Oatmeal should be pretty safe, right? I ordered a cup, with the yummy toppings - walnuts, brown sugar, bananas. I received a scant cup (I'll accept the argument that they were leaving room for toppings), walnuts, brown sugar, and 3 thin little slices of banana (that made the tiny paper container look huge by comparison) At first I thought, well, it is what it is (maybe they ran out of bananas), until my friend's order arrived. She had ordered the exact same thing. Her cup of oatmeal was full (no alleged "topping space"), and she received what looked like a quarter to a third of a sliced banana. So, portion inconsistency strikes again. On a positive note, my oatmeal was delicious (would have been better with banana). In their defense, when you bring a problem to their attention, B&P is ready to remedy it, and they do it with apologies and kindness (no attitude like you sometimes encounter other places) - but when the problems occur over and over and over...and over, remedies no longer suffice. Sure, they'll take back your breakfast (or dinner or lunch) and do it over - while your companions continue their meals (as they should - no sense in their meals being ruined by getting cold), and then when everyone's done, oh, good, here comes your meal, and you can eat alone. Yup, that's why I make plans with friends to go out to eat, so I can eat by myself. So, I actually got talked into giving B&P one more try (I know! I can't believe it either. At this point, I really only have myself to blame) I figured, stick with the oatmeal, because even if I got shorted on my portion, it's good oatmeal. It was cold. read more
