A great nursery for trees, shrubs, and perennials. They have a gift shop with the usual knickknacks, and also a few aviaries filled with beautiful lovebirds. The grounds are lovely! It's really nice to just wander around and observe the beautiful plants and specialty trees. They currently have a sale featuring 50% off roses, which are in full bloom at the moment. In addition patio furniture is also 50% off. The mature trees range from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending upon cultivar, rarity, or variegation of foliage. This is a great place for large landscape specimens. You won't find six packs of annuals, they really specialize in trees, shrubs and perennials. The service was friendly, although I didn't buy anything this time, I was warmly greeted, and offered help to find anything. I'll be back once we finish our hardscaping and are ready for feature plants and large trees. read more

This place is an old Roseville tradition, run by a hometown family. I love the displays and how they change with the seasons. The gift shop is delightful, they are helpful and kind. Okay, just WOW. How did I not know about this awesome place?? We came here specifically to see the gift store all decked out for Christmas. Seriously AMAZING. The store/nursery is located on Douglas almost at Sierra College. It's tucked away and there's just a small sign out front. I cannot say enough about the gift shop - I have never wanted more Christmas decorations in my life. The store is organized in sections/colors/themes with all the accompanying decorations in that section so it's easy to find what you want. The employees were very friendly and helpful. This place is definitely worth checking out. I walked in through the back to take a walking tour of the various trees, sculptures, bushes and plants they have for sale. The outside is absolutely stunning. There's birds chirping in a cage who seem very happy. I loved seeing the plant stands and outdoor furniture around. Once you go inside, it's equally as magical. There's so many sections in the store to browse. I took my time in each one, looking at all the things. Some things that caught my eye was the Easter section with all the cute bunnies and carrots, the kitchen and food section with cracker, salt and butter holders. I loved seeing the beautiful planter pots for sale. Everything had a description and price on it which I found useful when browsing around. There's plenty of parking out front. This place is huge! It's easy to get lost walking around the garden paths outside. I recently came here in hopes of finding a particular sempervivum. The product selection inside of the store is on the higher-end for a nursery. Fancy, if you will. Outside, I found a few succulents. While they didn't have very many, the ones that they did have were interesting, and well-chosen. All of the plants appeared to be pretty healthy. Some of the plants were affordable, while many others were out of my price range. I actually did find the sempervivum I was looking for-- as part of a $200 arrangement! I was hoping to spend more like $10 for a quart of rosettes, so $200 was definitely out of the question. The outer gardens are shaped into paths that you can walk around, with fountains, singing birds in cages, and shaded benches to sit on. If I lived closer, this would probably be one of my favorite stores to visit, because it's so peaceful and beautiful. While I tried to heed all of the "employees only" signs, I guess I must have missed one. Just as I was wondering, "How long can this place go on for?" A woman stopped me to ask, "Do you work here?" When I told her that I did not, she informed me that I was on private property. Oops. So, in my opinion, they could use a few more signs advising customers as to where the store gardens end, and the private property begins! It did look really nice, though. Beautiful! Peaceful.. and everyone is helpful with what you need. Or.. you can seriously just stroll around and enjoy yourself. No need to buy a thing, and they don't make you feel weird for strolling around enjoying yourself either. They dont follow your trying to make a sale. Finally I stopped in at Bushnell Gardens Nursery in Granite Bay, California, on Douglas Blvd. I've driven by tons of times, but never had the time or inclination to stop on in. The nursery is a local business and has been around since 1989. This place is awesome. They have an outdoor garden center, gift shop, and landscaping services which include a design & build and landscape gardening maintenance services. They also have a gift shop with lots of home decor items. It is designed in a chic farmhouse style. The displays are department store window quality. I bought a wooden paper towel holder. $16. Prices range is comparable to the big red bullseye big box shop. If it wasn't for the near triple digit weather, I would have stayed longer to explore every inch of the outdoor garden center. They do offer complimentary mini water bottles inside the fridge next to the garden center entry from the park lot. Thank goodness. In the same fridge are local farm fresh eggs for purchase. How cool. Anyway, the plants in the garden center are priced higher than the big box box shop. But not astronomical so and the care and quality is better. Plus unlike the big box shops, they carry a variety of older trees that meet immediate landscaping needs. When I walked through the garden center on a recent weekday afternoon, it was dead. There was only 3 staff, 2 were helping customers with the other tending to the plants. So if you need help, you'll most likely have to seek out staff. They have a good selection of plants (it's a pretty large place) at fair prices. We bought a pretty nice looking rose plant from them. A bit higher priced than the big local chain (based on plant size, since it was actually cheaper, but smaller). But they stock some varieties not found elsewhere. Bushnell had been recommended to us for the variety of topiary plants that they have. We stopped in looking for 4 topiary plants for our yard. We did find the style that we were looking for but they were too large for our space. When we asked an associate if there were any smaller options, she said no and that "we should go look at Green Acres and by the way, we are closing in 20 minutes." As we walked out, we did see a few smaller options but we were no longer interested in purchasing anything after how rude the staff was! We will not be returning to Bushnell!! read more

Beautiful store but the nursery has really gone downhill. I always want to support a local shop over a chain. Unfortunately my last few visits to Bushnell have been disappointing. Plants are much in need of tender loving care. Also trying to get the one on one attention they used to be known for no longer exists. If I can find anyone, they just point and wave me over to an area where I still have to struggle to find what I'm looking for. And if I do find something I want, I can't find someone to ring up the sale. No longer worth the effort to go there. It's very sad. read more

I am completely disappointed in my interaction with these people. First they tell me an absurd price for a tree that's been in their inventory for years unsold. When I said no it was too far out of my budget I was shown others but more of the song and dance how it would take 4 or 5 days to get back to me with a price which I found very inconvenient because I was trying to get this done within the 4 days I took off work but I agreed. When I didn't hear from them I called and the girl was "out watering plants". So I waited for a call. Finally another person called and said the first girl had gone home sick but she asked her about the tree I'd wanted and she said she had still not been able to get a price on it That's when I'd had enough and just told them to FORGET IT!!! Very unbusinesslike. Very much not understandable what their employees have to do for prices.etc. WHATEVER!!! Very unfortunate and unhappy experience with them. read more

Their design of the property was great for the prior owners but disappointing in the response to us. They are too busy right now to be helpful. Girlfriend and I came here to buy vegetable plants, partially to support local businesses but also we didn't want to wait in line for Green Acres. As we walked in we weren't greeted by anyone and it was pretty dead. The selection was minimal but with all of this Coronavirus nonsense going on we assumed people were doing a lot of at home projects. The real problem begins here... We got to the counter and the kid must have been new or something because he had no idea how the credit card machine worked, had us scan our card twice, he assured us that the transaction only went through once and we went on our way... Well we stopped to get gas and my girlfriend decided to check her balance.. We'd been charged twice. She immediately called and was assured that it wouldn't go through because they would tally up the total at the end of the night before it finalized. It had already finalized but we figured they'd reverse the problem that evening... Guesses anyone? They didn't. The next morning she called again and was told "there's nothing we can do about it and you have to have your bank reverse the charges"... so pretty much "screw you and good luck" is how I interpreted this. So you're telling me if 'Karen' came in an made a return or exchange you'd have NO way to give her a refund or pay her the difference??? That's BULL! Now we have to go through our bank in the middle of a pandemic to get a refund for THEIR screw up.... BTW, call centers are closed right now do to Coronavirus, so we have to go to the bank and wait in line over 56.21 because this company can't get their shit together well enough to do a simple return... Screw this place. We'll wait at Green Acres next time. I no longer question why nobody shops there, this place is a joke. read more

I happened upon this nursery while in granite bay. I was looking to do some early spring planting. The girl that helped me in the nursery completely understood my vision and directed me towards the right plants. She made it effortless!! I felt the price was very reasonable. If you want more customer service and direction from experts, this is the place! Much more helpful than any Lowe's or Home Depot, while still keeping the price comparable! I will absolutely return! I have been shopping there for 35 years. I always find something in plants or gift that I need or want. To the whiners that have posted: they are a little more expensive than the "big box" stores because they are a GROWER and they have plants you will not find anywhere else. Every store is not for everyone. Gift shop is always beautifully merchandised an has an ever changing product line. Same thing happened to us as the review feom 7 days ago. We didn't even have one of the teenagers helping us, it was a seemingly more knowledgeable lady. 1st swipe she said didnt go through and just immediately tossed the cc slip in the garbage so we didnt get to see it. She had us do the transaction a 2nd time and said that one worked and assured us the 1st one didnt go through. We checked our debit account and it shows the 2 charges. Five days later it still shows so we went back to this place. The 1st kid asked immediately if we called our bank. This has nothing to do with our bank we told her and see already needed help from another employee. Some guy comes back and just says this happens all the time, assured us they dont have our money and here's a business card for some corporate person who will just tell us the same thing. No wonder this place wasn't as packed as home depot and other garden places. What a bunch of jerks! read more

I like coming here and my young kids do too. We don't normally buy much and this isn't my go-to nursery. It is VERY overpriced compared to other local nurseries. They do have some unusual items so I will pick up one or two of these when I see them. The gardens are beautiful, not particularly well organized, and they have love birds in cages in a couple areas. A good selection of pots and garden decor, again at overpriced prices. No one is around to help you but that's okay with me; I don't like when people ask me over and over again if I need something. read more

Purchased 23 trees from Bushnell Gardens Nursery, which came with a 90 day warranty. Within a month of being delivered & planted, 14 of them slowly started to die despite a deep watering every day as instructed (his yardman, Kevin Hoyt, came out with a soil probe and tested for water saturation; each sample he pulled up along the drip line showed ample water saturation). The other trees are fine and doing well. David first tried to argue that it was a 60 day warranty (I have it in writing that the warranty was 90 days), then argued that the trees weren't adequately watered. The facts are these: David changed the warranty period after the fact, then used an arbitrary interpretation of the warranty to deny my claim. He cannot be trusted. Consider yourself forewarned. read more

One thing is true for nurseries: you pay for what you get. I have gone through phases where any time I was upset my thing was to buy a new plant. Plants are like my pets and they heal my bad moods or sorrows... I often would buy a new plant every week, and I love tropicals, unusual plants, and hard to finds. Buying from a nursery is the best way to go, and avoid hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes if you can. Bushnell's goes to great lengths to make sure that all their plants are well taken care of and pest free. I once got a mealy bug on my banana tree I had purchased at Bushnell's and they exchanged it out for me. Their selection on tropicals, especially Canna Lillies and Banana Tree's is suuuuuuuperb compared to other local Nurseries. It is VERY difficult, if not impossible, to find either of those types of plants in the city, unless you want to order a starter plant or bare rooted bulb (hopefully legally) on eBay... and waiting for those plants to mature takes more than a year. I have ALWAYS been helped promptly and the staff always goes out of their way to help me... whether its to special order a bromeliad or anthurium for me, or help me select the proper fertilizer to bloom an orchid. There were areas set up for you to test the garden tools. Unique ironwork either ordered from talented artists or made onsite. Love Bushnells. I live down the road so probably visit too often. They do such an amazing job with the interior section of the nursery, you can get great ideas for your home. Their customer service is wonderful, always willing to assist with ideas or helping with plants for certain areas of your house. They are a bit expensive, but the quality is high as well. Take advantage of their sales :) They take a hiatus in the beginning of the new year but most of the year they have great hours. I am in bliss when walking around Bushnells. I feel like I'm in a beautiful park. I have purchased many items and always had excellent help from the staff. I prefer to be 'left alone' when walking around Bushnells so don't actually want to be approached (as some customers like to be.) I am a confirmed Bushnells shopper.
