I have been to Bushwhacker's a handful of times. Every time, we are not really addressed by any of the staff (ok, that's normal, I guess). Our server had difficulty bringing out the correct drinks. I haven't tried too much of their menu so I can't judge their meals. Most recently, I came here with a friend to learn some line dancing! I have NEVER tried this before, and I actually had a great time. The instructor was vibrant and enthusiastic, and the others learning the dance were friendly as well. My only complaint is the lack of acknowledgement from the staff, and their rather small parking lot. Other than that, this is such a fun place! read more

Love my BW! Perfect place to let loose and dance the night away! They have a great mix of music and dancing. Two-step and WCS are the most popular couples dances. They play a lot of line dances, as well. Grant plays a great selection of music, and always takes requests. The bar staff is awesome, they make great drinks and they always have smiles on their faces; and the security are great at keeping the night running smoothly. My favorite night is Saturday, it gets crowded but just more of a dancers night. I think most of my fellow regulars would agree! Thursday is definitely fun, as well. Just a bit more packed with the college crowd, and it's ladies night. Friday is live band night. Two-step Tuesday gets pretty packed with dancers. They have a great selection of dance lessons Tuesday-Saturday, great for beginners wanting to learn to dance! Nice dance floor... but honestly I would have preferred Duke's if they hadn't shut it down. This place was okay but didn't blow me away. With the exception of one server, this is the rudest staff I have ever encountered. I stood at the bar for about 20 minutes while the female bartender was happy to take any dudes orders but pretended I didnt even exist. When I did finally order, the bartender literally did not ever look me in the eye during the entire transaction. Pretty sure their bartenders hate life and everyone who exist in it, so overall a very depressing vibe. Pretty sure Bushwhackers couldn't care less however because the reviews on here have been reporting terrible service / rude servers for over a decade. Ordered an IPA and the waitress gave me a porter. I brought it back and said I accidentally got the wrong beer... she said that she's 100% sure I ordered the porter and it would be another $6 to replace it. I tried telling her I had never had a porter in my life and would never order one and she called me a... wait for it..... "f***ing liar". You really ought to know what you're getting into before coming to a place like Bushwhackers. I have no intention of intimidating any prospective first-timers, but to warn those that Bushwhackers is an all encompassing experience to say the least and this is exactly what they are known for. Each day of the week Bushwhackers provides a variety of dance lessons taught by different experts who, if you have two left feet, will even take the time after class to work with you if you have the determination or interest. A portion of the crowd here are regulars and know each other on a first name basis. The greatest part is, each night attracts people from all walks of life, levels of talent, and age groups (21+). And if you aren't a dancer, that's ok. Give it a try on the dance floor and you'll be guaranteed two or three people will come to your aid and help point you in the right direction. If you're not that ambitious, that's ok too. People-watching can be just as exhilarating here at Bushwhackers. As for the food and costumer service, I give it a solid B. They do a surprisingly great job for all that they provide. But like I said, coming to Bushwhackers is all about the experience. read more

I have been a regular for years and come nearly every Thursday for ladies night. I will never be returning after this horrible experience. We were refused entry by a doorman, "Logan" who said we couldn't have 5 girls go in at once because it was a "liability"?! Showed up for two birthdays and were refused service AND THEN when we asked to speak to the manager, he said she was too busy and we aren't worth her time. Really?!?! disappointed in the lack of customer service and how downhill this establishment has gone. Take your money elsewhere and don't waste your time. Absolute worst customer service I have ever encountered. The security staff was rude to myself and my friends as was the manager on duty. My 15 friends and I drove down from Washington specifically for this bar and arrived at Bushwackers at 7:30pm and were treated like dirt from the moment we arrived. This bar needs a serious lesson in hospitality and will never get a recommendation from my friends or myself. Do NOT drive a far distance for this bar. This is my favorite place to go. It makes my week. Thursday's for ladies night is packed with 20s and 30s which is hard to find in this town it seems like. The dancing is really fun but it does take time to learn the dances. It is well worth it though! Everyone is always really into the dances and the energy is contagious. Never going to this racist place again. One of the bartenders (blonde girl who was a little overweight) wouldn't server me for like 30mins. I thought she was just busy until a bunch of British guys showed up next to me. She immediately asked them what they want. One of the guys tells her I was there first, and she goes on to say everyone was there first. These guys kept apologizing to me because she was obviously being very racist. Very cool theme throughout this Country & Western Dance Hall & Saloon. The food is good, the drinks are good, the service is decent, and the folks are friendly. They have live bands and a very huge dance floor. Not sure if they still have whatever dance lessons they used to have, but I thought about giving it a try and sort of forgot until now. I go to Bushwackers every once in awhile for ladies night on Thursdays. The place is HUGE and usually packed with a diverse crowd on those nights. I always see a good amount of college students as well as an older (40+) crowd that usually keeps to themselves. The bartenders are quick considering the crowd, and my drinks have always been strong. Plus, on Thursdays they serve dollar beers all night. Can't complain about that! The bathrooms are clean for a bar. The back porch is nice, though I can't stand out there for too long because I don't like the cigarette smoke. The crowd gets friendlier as the night goes on (imagine that!), though I will say that sometimes it feels as though the regulars look down on everyone else. If I could give this place a 0 star I would... I have came regularly on Thursdays nights for ladies night for months on years. Not only has this place let their lines now stack up to over 3 hours because of there lack to let people in for whatever reason, but they denied service to my friends and I from out of town. We were excited to show them the local bar, but because she was finishing a drink in the car they denied service. After trying to explain the situation because their state allows other rules for open container laws countless times, they didn't care . It is unbelievable to see their unwillingness to understand being the such supportive locals we are . On an additional note the bouncer with the glasses should have his attitude checked immediately. I love to dance. But I'm not a fan of country music or line dancing, yet...I love this place! Good food, nice sized dance floor and free group dance classes make this a worthwhile place to go with friends. Staff is pretty cool. If you want a waitress, ask for Ashley, she's the best one. Unfortunately, the only complaint I have is that for the past few months they have been incorporating secular music into the bar for an hour plus. I come here to dance and listen to the country music. If I wanted to listen to the rap and hip hop, I'd go downtown. It puts a real damper on the night. Do yourself a favor and eat dinner at home or somewhere else first. I used to come to Bushwhackers weekly when I lived in the Portland area 15 years ago and I remember always enjoying the food. Several of us decided to stop here to get some dinner before heading out to a dance in the area. I ordered steak strips which had been one of my favorites and asked for medium rare. The meat was more medium well and tasteless. I was also supposed to have ranch dressing and that was left off the plate. Business was still pretty slow as it was only 5 PM so I went up to the bar and got the dressing. I tried to eat the meat but decided that after spending over $10, I deserved to get what I asked for. The waitress brought back a new plate of steak strips without incident but it was the most tasteless piece of meat I think I've ever eaten. My friend ordered a turkey club sandwich and said it was mediocre. Someone else in our group was not pleased with his food either, saying it was not very good. I just think it's really sad for a place that has been established for so many years to care that little about the quality of their food. I will definitely never eat here again. The reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because it's still an awesome dance floor. read more

I thought it was time to update my review from my previous post as I have officially forgiven and forgotten my horrible experience so many months ago, and I felt the need to reiterate my love for my favorite bar in town. Bushwhackers is by far the best if you're lookin' for a country bar to go and hang out and dance in. Thursday is the BEST night to go, because of course it's ladies night, so free entry and $1.50 beers for gals, although that .50 gets me every time when it used to be a dollar! ;) I come here almost every Thursday and some Saturday evenings too. I've always said if I'm going out, and someone asked me what my choice would be, it would be to go to Bushwhackers every single time. I've been going here for 11 years. I always have a good time getting my swing dancing on. It is very busy here on Saturdays and Thursday nights. I prefer going Tuesday nights for more dance space on the floor. So fun.. The food is excellent the staff is friendly. I love coming here on Thursday nights. It's ladies night, so cheap drinks for the ladies, and during power hour, 10-11 they have $3 shots of Jose Jack Jager or Pendelton. Can't argue with that. I would also say it is the best ladies night around for the bros. The ratio is at least 3-1 which you rarely see unless you want to go to some lame club downtown. Best country bar in the Portland area BY FAR. The staff is laid back and friendly. Thursday nights are the busiest but ladies get in free and beers are $1.50 for us as well. It's a great atmosphere. During the summer it can get a little crowded because the college kids are usually home from school. Great bar with great drink prices and plenty of good times. We went last night for a friends birthday party and since there was not enough parking in their lot, we parked at the Pizza Hut lot. Unfortunately, since the unathorized parking signs were not placed well, our car was towed by a predatory towing company for a total cash payout of $340. Bushwackers does not have a sign posted on their door nor do they inform customers when they arrive that they should not park in this lot. The dj did announce it 90 min after we had been there but by that time our car was picked up an hour before that. There were a lot of people in from out of town for the holidays who likely could not afford the outrageous towing fee and about 10 cars were towed last night. You do the math My husband and I used to have fond memories of Bushwackers because that is where we met, but it seems that they have little concern for the patrons and the cost to them, otherwise they could do a simple thing like post a note on the door to let them know the risk. This place is great! I've never had so much fun at a nightclub - ever. It's a little bit crowded and it can take awhile to get a drink, but that must be because the place is so popular, right? The restaurant is huge with a dance floor and fun country decor. They also have a dog friendly smoking patio out front perfect for sunny days. I came to bushwhackers for my first time with my husband on a Tuesday night and sat at the bar. The bartender was so rude ignoring me and when I would talk to her she made me feel as if I was annoying her. I thought it may had just been my small talk bugging her then I saw and realized how she was treating other customers and I knew she had an attitude problem. Service was crap. Every dance is line dance only and if you try to just go and dance to have fun or to try and learn you will be kicked off the floor and yelled at by staff. I have been there twice. The first time I noticed how rude the bartenders are, I figured it was a bad day. No - I go back last night and they were still rude. They act as if they hate their jobs and have better things to be doing. They're annoyed and pissy attitude is a real downer. I can't say enough how much I loved this place! The people were friendly, the staff was awesome, the drinks were strong and the whole vibe was amazing! They stopped at 9pm and sang the national anthem. Loved that! The parking lot was packed and my husband and I were a little nervous to go in because it looked overly packed. But it wasn't so loud you couldn't have a conversation, but loud enough to enjoy the music and dance. We walked up to the bar and almost every seat was taken but we were still helped within seconds of walking up. Lots of seating away from the bar. It was also very clean. We just moved here from northern Washington and this is our new bar! We will be coming back very soon. read more
