I want to KICK MYSELF for not researching local vets before I took my rescue pup Benny to one of the corporate chain vets in Williamsburg. That visit (they'll remain nameless, but they have locations throughout NYC) felt like I was being sold a bunch of car repairs I did not need. And the main issue, I wanted his anal glands expressed, they couldn't get it done and the dog was yelping bloody murder. My local pet shop, NV Pets, recommended Bushwick Veterinary Center and the visit went SWIMMINGLY. Sure, Benny was nervous, but they allayed his anxiety and got it all done. Their pricing? FAIR. Unlike the half of lung I had to sell off to pay the other place. (I'm bitter, right?) In any event, I *highly* recommend this veterinary center. read more

They don't follow up with patients, prescriptions take weeks, appointments can only be booked far in advance, long waits when you call and the vets don't reliably call back. Prescriptions just don't take this long at other vets. I even called ahead to schedule when to pick up meds, and they still didn't have the meds ready or sometimes in stock at all (despite calling ahead). So much time wasted. Don't usually write reviews but had such a negative experience and felt I had to. Waited 2 1/2 hours for them not to have the medication in stock and still paid 185 for tests they couldn't find gloves in the budget for. The vet had to tell the assistant to stop grabbing her neck so hard and even he handled her very rough himself and once again without gloves for a corneal ulcer that he touched barehanded. The ulcer could be seen without testing yet they still wanted to test to see if she had one. Quickest buck I've ever seen anyone make. They're tied with chewy and want the referral for overpriced medications. We had her on medication from the er vet from the initial incident and they had told us we had to stop and when we continuously asked why they had to switch medications their only response was that they were giving us new medications that were the same but less potent. The front desk and the vet himself had two very different answers for every question we had including whether we could even get the medication. They also recommended an ophthalmologist to get her surgery when she had a very surface scratch which they noted themselves. So much time wasted and there was a random dog walking around off leash in the waiting room with no owner in site and clearly not in the best shape with bloodshot eyes and trouble walking fully. When we finally got a prescription the instructions said to give her the medication every 12 hours for 7 days but he had recommended every 2 hours for 7 days after we asked him to specify how often and he said just as often as you can. She could've easily overdosed on that as a 7 pound elderly cat we feel he just wanted us to run through as much medication as we could and pay way more that he could get a cut from chewy for. The way they handled her from the start should've been telling how little they care about the animals they treat and how it's simply just a job for them. read more

I have never had a seamless experience here. Nearly all of my appointments have taken over 2 hours, with a decent chunk of that time spent post-vet visit, waiting for meds. On one occasion, I called early in the day to let them know I would be picking up de-wormer later in the day, and when I arrived at the vet I had to sit there for over an hour and a half. It's always, "it'll just be a couple more minutes." Many of the vet techs are great, but a couple of them have shockingly little knowledge of basic obedience training, such as marking a dog's behavior, and reprimanded me for giving my dog a treat when he stopped barking (even though I was using marking). The same vet tech recommended going to PetCo for training purposes. PETCO. I lost a lot of trust in their judgment. Dr. Wyler dismissed all my questions and concerns like I had no idea what I was talking about. Took about 2 minutes to look at my puppy before deciding his potential allergies must be food-related, and immediately prescribed an elimination diet trial. He also prescribed de-wormer and told me to give it to my dog immediately without waiting three days for the fecal sample results to come back, I did not, and the test came back negative. Then I got a follow-up email that the Dr. wanted to prescribe a second round of de-wormer, despite the negative test. All Dr. Wyler seems to care about is running up the bill. He seems to be stuck in his ways, with a big ego. It's time for him to retire. Among others, I spoke with another vet and breeder concerning the above-detailed visit/diagnosis, and both were shocked. I would recommend avoiding this clinic unless you have no other options. read more

Just had the BEST experience at this vet! I have a 1 year old lab/pit and we were going to a vet in Williamsburg since we got him. It was a bit of a trek since we live in Bushwick. I noticed Bushwick Veterinary Center on a walk near my apartment and figured it would be much easier to get to them trekking to Williamsburg. I am so happy with the decision to switch my pup over! It was very easy to get an appointment. Dr. Taie was so loving to my dog and very easy to talk to. When we explained that was going on with my pup, he listened intently and gave us a reasonable plan of action that included not paying for meds immediately, but seeing if my pup's condition clears up over the weekend. We will check in on Monday to see if he needs treatment. The prices are also half that of our previous vet for a visit and $20 less for a fecal sample. I'm so happy we made the switch! read more

Very late sending in prescriptions, multiple mistakes on prescription instructions, dirty office, techs and office management have very poor organization of information, many errors interpreting notes and scheduling of meds. Just overall a very disorganized practice YET all in the guise of being woke. Literally every step of the way has been riddled with mistakes. The latest problem was It took them two weeks to call in meds to my pharmacy for my pet who contracted Giardia. Finally i called them on the phone saying i would not get off the phone until someone called in the prescription. They told me that they had other patients to take care of at the moment. I told them that i had already waited my time and paid my full fee, my pets (their patients) were in need, and i expect normal and timely service. They still refused to call the prescription in at which point I suggested i would call the pharmacy and have the pharmacy call them, obviously their DRs or Techs just didnt want to wait on hold so they just gave up! That solution seemed to do the trick (basically i did their job for them and they acted like it was my fault somehow), but now even more problems, I noticed a mistake in the prescription instructions on the meds that were finally received. AND this is the 3rd prescription instructions mistake they have made since i started with their practice in the last 2 months!! honestly these people are sloppy, careless, and entitled. I will be looking for a new vet asap. read more

I give this place one star if that because I don't think the staff communicates well with the pet owners. i received a tube to collect my cats stool i took it home and returned a couple days after w stool and they then told me they needed a piece of stool that was 2 hours old max... i don't know why they would not mention that when they told me to bring a sample. So i had to walk 30 minutes home in the winter to come right back. Same thing happened the following week when my cat got neutered. I asked the vet for a cone and they told me it wasn't necessary because he was a male cat. I call an hour later because my cat was licking the area and they told me to come back for a cone????? another 30 to the vet n back walking in the cold. When i arrive they are on the phone with someone they forgot to charge before they left the vet. as I was about to leave the vet, nearly out the door they told me they had to charge me $16 for the cone when I explained to the workers the situation and how this was inconvenient and how I had asked for a cone when I had left. they responded Unprofessionally .... I chose to just come back peacefully to get what i needed and go but the lack of care for peoples time and lack of communication is a reason why I will never be returning to this vet for my cat I rarely ever write negative reviews, but I feel like this was necessary to share. The woman who opened the store this morning (1/6/24) when I arrived at 8 AM was especially unconcerned and unprofessional with handling the situation. The other woman who is at the desk with blonde hair when I arrived again at 4 PM to pick up the cone was more understanding of the situation, but the other woman who had open that morning was stern and non-empathetic. I would suggest giving her a position where she doesn't have to deal directly with people. read more

I called them since my dog had an issue (non emergent) and they said that I can come in on that same day, and they would take care of my dog & when they become available they will attend to my dog and I but I would have to wait (that's pretty decent common sense and totally understandable and of course appreciated that they are willing to even see my dog last minute)........UP until this dude on the phone says there will be an extra $75.00 for a walk in. I've had comments made to me about asking my parents for help-? Extremely rude to me as an owner. two stars because my service there has been fine, but when I tried to set up a dental cleaning for my cat they continued rising the price seemingly out of nowhere. First I was quoted $1,000, then $2,000 THEN $3,000. This isn't based off my cat's health. This is simply from emails about scheduling an appointment with no explanation for the raised cost. For reference the average cost in New York is $300. Other vets in the area quoted me around $500 at most. read more

I brought my 9-year old cat to Dr. Eric Grossman to have a small, soft lump on her belly checked about a month ago. He spent approx. 2-4 seconds barely touching it, misidentified where it was at least once, and then diagnosed her within minutes with mammary cancer without a single diagnostic test on the lump. Her bloodwork showed she was healthy but I was told she would need a double-mastectomy of both her mammary chains and was sent a hefty invoice before I'd left the building. I brought her to a different veterinarian for a second opinion. She performed two FNAs and an incisional biopsy on the lump which definitively showed that the growth was a benign lipoma; basically a harmless lump of fat that requires no further action. This second vet and her associates were visibly concerned by Dr. Grossman's diagnostic process. I wrote Dr. Grossman to let him know about this misdiagnosis -- I figured this might help prevent other pets from undergoing unnecessarily invasive and expensive surgeries. He responded defensively, claiming that this is simply how mammary cancer is diagnosed, despite clear evidence to the contrary. I would strongly advise against trusting a loved-one's care to this veterinarian. read more

Not one to write reviews, but finding a good vet is hard. This place scheduled me in very last minute (one hour after I called), even though I was a new patient. Went in and immediately noticed how much everyone really cares about the animals. They were really patient, friendly and empathetic. Immediately diagnosed my dog and came up with a solution. They didn't try to up-sell me on any extra testing or medication. Compared to other places, for the same amount of medication and type of exams, I paid 1/3 of the price here. So, IMO, I found it to be more affordable than other places which is a plus. read more

I should start by saying I read a lot of bad reviews about this place on here but i usually take it with a grain of salt and decided it still looked like a good choice. I was wrong. It's a cute looking place with terrible customer service. If you call on the phone they ask to put you on hold immediately, that hold time usually lasts for 15+ min. If this happened once that would be one thing but it's EVERY time I call. When you walk in the receptionists at the front desk do not greet you and they have nasty attitudes. What really upset me though was that they gave me incorrect information about my cats health. They charged me for a fecal test that they clearly did not do, because a few weeks after the test came back and they told me my cat was parasite free, I found tapeworms in his feces. It really upset me because I kept this cat separated from my other cats for weeks waiting for the all clear from the vet before allowing them to interact. Now I'm worried all of my cats are at risk. Luckily tapeworms are relatively cheap and easy to get rid of, but they also told me he was FeIV negative and now I don't think I can trust that. read more

I rarely leave reviews but i'm super picky when looking for goods and services and appreciate when people can leave a review so I'm doing this for the next person who is like me. I found this place after some pretty decent google searching and calling quite a few places and found the experience from the minute i walked in the door to leaving to be very pleasant. They were the most affordable vet I found and didn't try to up sell me on any services. The vet tech was extremely friendly and gentle with my lily (cat) and the vet did a good job of explaining his care plan and the recommendations he had. Overall very positive experience and didn't cost a fortune ("fond pet" i'm taking to you). I can't speak to services for dogs or any emergency services but for a yearly check up this was a great experience. read more

DOG OWNERS BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! I do not post reviews but in this case it is necessary to bring transparency to our community about this place. All three visits were nothing but unpleasantness, frustration and disgust with the way they operate their business. As I always do, when it comes to these type of services, before I hang up the phone confirming the appointment I ask what my costs will be so there's no surprise. First visit, they overcharged me at the end of the consultation, I then proceed with giving the name of the person who assisted me and what was agreed on. I was told that she was not present at the moment as her shift had ended so they couldn't confirm the price I was told over the phone. Second visit, I showed up for an emergency as my dog had gotten into a fight with another dog in a dog park few blocks from them and was profusely bleeding with lacerations on his ears, cuts etc. To my surprise, I was told they couldn't take me in because they were all booked! After some insistence given the emergency they had agreed to take me in but as "regular walk in" and that we would have to wait to be seen. Mind you the dog is loosing blood at this point and extremely uneasy, stressed etc. I decided to stay because they said they would do what they could to see him quick, but after waiting for nearly 3 long hours they took him in. The doctor immediately wanted to put him to sleep so his ears could be stitched. You can imagine the price for anesthesia... they kept me waiting in the room saying I needed to make a decision fast. I then decided to choose only an evaluation and some bandaid and would take him else where. Well hey ended up etching his ears without putting him to sleep, which tells me that there was another option but they just wanted to sell me the anesthesia. Third visit (and last), I came in for a simple rabies vaccine and was met by an roque doctor who wanted to sell me a list of nearly $2k in shots. He seemed very annoyed when I pointed out the price of one of the shots which I had paid less elsewhere. Despite his annoyances I kept cool and asked to have only the rabbis and also asked if I could have the list of medicines he was offering sent to my email for my later review so I can schedule another appointment later on. They denied sending me the list with he prices and instead sent me an email stating what I had chosen to have done and what I had denied service for. The thing is, they did demand seeing the prior records and even scanned my prior consultation from another vet where it was listed all the services provided and prices but they did not want to provide theirs list prices! Where is the transparency here?! Overall I do believe this clinic acts as if they care for the animals but they are more focused about their revenues intake than the animal, you as a pet owner or the community they serve. The lack of transparency, professionalism and work ethics are beyond unacceptable so please think twice before making an appointment or make sure you are thorough with them in every aspect of your visits. I had one fine experience here and then a poor one. After reading other yelp reviews I'm coming to the conclusion that it's a fine vet for dogs and maybe not for cats. My bill was high and I'm not thrilled about the care received. Tests were done and I don't have a timeline as to when to expect results. The vet himself was lovely enough but I guess the tech relayed incorrect info to him (thinking there was blood in some stool) -- making the situation seem different/perhaps worse than it was. I've been coming here out of geographic convenience but maybe it's time for a change. I feel more unsettled after this visit than I did before coming in with my cat. read more

I've been to Bushwick Vet Center several times and have only had pawsitive experiences! The staff is friendly and competent, and their waiting area is lovely. They separate out sides of the lobby for cat and dog patients which really helps keep our anxious foster kittens calm while we wait! They are prompt with their appointments and always do a thorough check. I live in Manhattan, so usually use vets there, but when I need a trustworthy second opinion on any of the medical needs cats we foster, I always trust Dr. Taie and it is so worth the drive! He's helped us with a cat with severe food allergies as well as several other odd cases. Their pricing is incredibly fair, and they are always upfront about what services will cost! read more

I traveled an hour to my appointment and after arriving was told I'd have to reschedule because the doctor they needed to do it was unavailable, truly the most disorganized, disfunctional vet, the least they could've done is cancel the appointment before I arrived. On my appointment with this vet, I described symptoms my cat was exhibiting. The vet examined her over the course of a few minutes, offered no feedback, took her away to give her her annual shots, and sent us on our way. The visit was several hundred dollars. She was taken to another vet a few week later, who immediately diagnosed several things that needed attention, including an advanced ear infection that only a totally incompetent vet could miss. The office is very clean and pleasant, and the staff is kind and personable, but all of that is pointless if the vets themselves cannot do their job. read more

Not great, not awful - have had issues with wait times consistently being longer than expected, even with appointments. (30-45min just to be seen, another 45 min while the doctors bounce between different patients). Doctors are also hit and miss - I had a great experience with Dr. Atkinson when my puppy had a rabies shot, but both times I've seen Dr. Taie, he has been quite rude - when I ask questions about my puppy, he treats me like I'm asking stupid questions and does not make me feel comfortable. His attitude makes me feel like he doesn't care about my puppy's best interest. If you can find another vet in your neighborhood, I would steer clear from here, especially if service is important to you. In future appointments, I hope to be able to request specifically Dr. Atkinson. read more

I've been going to this vet since February 12, 2019. My dog has been seen several times for check ups and for shots. I reached out on 8/26/2019 for an estimate for my dog. I got a response on 8/28/2019 stating that I would have a date for the surgery by the end of the day. I followed up on 8/31/2019 and have not received a response. I just now sent another email today 09/18/2019. It's disappointing that this is what the relationship with this vet has become. This was my favorite vet and I had recommended others to come here. At this point, I'm disgusted by the fact that the vet doesn't have a routine to follow up with their team and secure the patients who have been loyal. I didn't want to be the first bad review for this vet. But it's important that other people who care for their pets see this. If you love your animal I DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. Grossman. HE SEEMS TO LACK EXPERIENCE AND IS NEGLIGENT AT BEST AT HIS JOB. He failed to even examine my kitten who wasn't thriving at 5 mo's - didn't touch him at all- just diagnosed him with worms ('every kitten has them') only to find out from another vet 5 days later when his body was shutting down - his liver was enlarged (simple feeling around revealed) and he was jaundiced (look at the gums) indicating liver AND upon further testing kidney damage and later that day our kitten died. Then Grossman ordered $905 in exams for my Other cat , that when pressed, he admitted she didn't need most Likely. Both times he gave me zero info and I had to pry information from him, both times he came into the room with 1:8th of the info I gave the nurse and left the room with a 'consult my Nurse for your treatment plan' - come to find out by 'treatment plan' be meant 'bill'. No One was leading here, expect negligence and $$$$$& - also HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS THEY EITHER HAVE ONE STAR REVIEWS OR FIVE STAR REVIEWS! read more

The day I was on the fence about this place, they didn't pick up the phone when I was calling to book an appointment. Overall, they're always too busy to book out anything less than a week in advance, so it's either let my cat suffer to go to a familiar place or call somewhere else. I'll always choose my cat. Also they guilted me into getting an expensive X-ray for my cat that I didn't need. A vet tec slammed my cat's head in the door because they entered the room without knocking, knowing my cat was loose out of the carrier, and when my cat tried to get out, they just slammed the door with my cat's head in it instead of using any other method. They're not open on weekends and it's hard to get a hold of them. There are some great people working here at every level of the staff, it's just not a place I want as my cat's primary vet. read more

I cannot possibly express my gratitude for Dr. Taie opening his practice a block from my house. My cat has always disliked leaving the house and would stay scared hiding in his carrier even when opened at a vet office. But after the first visit with Dr. Taie, he would jump out and explore the room when we were waiting for the Doctor. Miraculously, on his final visit, he even came to the doctor when he was called. It is obvious that he has a deep love of animals that mirrors the love their owners feel. The clinic itself is always neat and has a separate waiting room for dogs and cats. And they were always gracious and affordable and prompt. My cat passed away today but I'm so glad he had a doctor like this before he went. read more

I don't often write reviews however in this case it needs to be done to warn others to stay away from it. If i could give it zero stars i would. If you truly love and value your animals life, I really beg you never to come here. I took my cat here about a month ago because I noticed he had been over grooming. When he arrived to the vet, his condition was very minor and had small abrasions to his skin. I explained what was going on and also let them know several times I checked and administered drugs for fleas/ticks being that's the common cause of overgrooming. I also explained I believed he had an allergy. As pet owners we can sense when something is off with our fur babies. The vet came in and looked at him for 5 minutes literally. He performed not a single test to determine what was wrong with him even after I suggested performing an allergy to pinpoint the problem. After using only his eyes to examine my cat he then put him on several medications he believed(no tests were done) would help his condition. After just a week my cats skin had been completely raw and his fur had entirely fallen out on his legs. I called and spoke with the receptionist to set an appointment and informed her the medication hadn't been working and had in fact made him over groom even more than he was as if it heightened what was wrong. He is now not only refusing to see my pet and cancelled his upcoming appointment without notifying me first, they are all unwilling to refund the hundreds I've spent on drugs that have only worsened my cats health. As an establishment where people are trusting you with something that mean so much to them and who are family, this is how they choose to run it. It's truly upsetting and disappointing that some people are caring for your animals and have no actual intentions of really caring about them. This establishment is clearly money motivated and I would not wish them on my worst enemy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, save yourselves the time, energy and money. Bushwick Veterinary Center is a wonderful and badly needed addition to the neighborhood! Anyone who has pets knows what a hassle it is to drag them long distances to the vet, and when our last cat got sick we spent hours in the car bringing her to vets in Queens (previously the closest option for good vets). We brought in our two 9-month-old male cats recently to be neutered, as the adoption agency we worked with hadn't had them neutered before we adopted them due to their young age. Our vet Dr. Taie was absolutely wonderful - he explained the procedure and after care clearly and answered all our questions, and during the pre-surgery exam he was very gentle and skilled with our cats. You can tell he genuinely cares for animals and understands how to work with them. Our cats are a few days into recovery and doing great so far. I should also note that the price for the procedure seemed to be in line with the standard for NYC (and it was significantly lower than some other vets I called in the neighborhood). The office was very clean, and I love that they have separate entrances for cats and dogs (though a few curious dogs did wander over at times, but I can't really complain because they were super adorable and friendly). So happy to have Bushwick Veterinary in the neighborhood, and they will definitely be our primary vet from here on out! read more

THE BEST VET VISIT EVER. My dog ate a sock about a month ago and she started having a diarrhea all of sudden. We were freaking out as we thought it was blocking her stool, which is EXTREMELY dangerous. Expecting the worst scenario, we found this place for an ER visit. Wow. Dr. Taie was the best vet I've ever met. He is compassionate, warm, efficient, and a good listener. We didn't even wait more than 15 minutes and he started the conversation by making us feel relieved first and explained about the symptom. He recommended not to do an X-ray because it's not necessary and it's an extra cost, which is so different from vets that just overcharge everything. We have a doberman puppy who's like CRAZY and he was so patient with her. I feel weird every time we make a vet visit and not being able to go in with my dog, but he made us feel so relieved. This vet diagnosed my cat with chronic kidney disease and recommended expensive diagnostics without explaining their purpose or whether they would improve my cat's prognosis. When I tried to get clarification, he was condescending and evasive and eventually ghosted me. I'll be finding a new vet who doesn't get so annoyed when asked for routine information.
