I came in with my sweet Ridgeback who is very anxious at the Vet--and they could not have been more kind, thoughtful and accommodating to our needs. We worked together to ensure that he was comfortable for his exam, and while we had to subdue him for extensive tests, they could have not been more patient and kind. Overall, both the Vet and the team have a wonderful and transparent approach. I was able to carry my boy into the x-ray room and a comfy blanket waited for us while he slept off the anesthesia. I was so impressed with this Emergency Vet! Worlds better than blue pearl for sure. I went in an anxious mess, still in my slippers because I was hardly awake, with my French bulldog that was having weird problems. Dr Casey is the most patient human on earth, I must've asked him 5000 questions and he never made me feel stupid or annoying like how I've been treated before. Everybody there is super warm from the receptionists to the ppl working in the hospital side. I watched as many other animals were treated with care and love (especially the ones who had been admitted and their owners weren't there, nearly cried watching a Dr petting a cat with an e collar). You could tell that everybody here really loves animals. They even have a really cute golden doggy assistant. We were seen right away, I was given an estimate before anything was done, and the exam, bloodwork, and two kinds of medication came to 500 bucks which really is not bad in the world of Emergency Vets. 3 years ago today I dropped 1500 at blue pearl and was treated like an idiot for insisting that my dogs seizures weren't epilepsy but brain tumors (yes it was tumors, RIP Fancy) When you call them you get to speak to a doctor or nurse who will evaluate if you actually need to go in. The nurse I spoke to was awesome and assured me that my dog was not on deaths door but my anxiety from losing my last dog this time three years ago made me go in anyway. I'm so glad I did. Also this place is clean and really beautiful. They have a water and coffee station, the seating is cozy, and they even gave my dog a blanket and a bed to hang out on I can't say enough about this place, thank you so much for taking care of Blanche (and my anxiety). She finally ate like a vacuum cleaner and is feeling much better tonight. read more

On January 9th I rushed my boy Cane to this ER after being struck by an electric bike that broke his leg. They put a stint on and the whole nine and he was set to heal in 8 weeks time. Because he was heavily medicated on pain meds, anti inflammatories, etc, he didn't feel anything out of the norm. Come to find out the cast they put on was way too tight, cutting off circulation in his arm and side, resulting in the decaying of that area. Only after finishing his sedatives was he able to notice it, and he told me in an unspeakable way by trying to rip his arm off. In doing so he dug into his side with his paw down to his muscles, revealing the dead and decaying area. On January 24th I woke up, found him bleeding out, and rushed him back to the vet ER immediately. I tried my best to see what options could be done, even surrendering him to a shelter because that would be too much on me, and due to my limited funds I knew I wouldn't be able to care for him how he deserved. The doctor tried to blame his actions and the decaying meat on me because I changed the outer bandages three days prior, as if all that damage would result from the little wrapping I changed. I let that go, which I'm now regretting, because I was only focused on how much my boy was suffering. I had already considered the worst possible scenario would be euthanasia. I made my decision on the spot because I hated seeing how much he was suffering and crying, and he was ready to go. Before he was euthanized I signed paperwork for a private cremation. It also had a clause that no matter what, after I sign, they wouldn't be held legally liable for any mess ups, which I thought was very shady and weird. But again, he's suffering, and I just wanted his suffering to end. I was supposed to come pick up his ashes along with a nail clipping and paw print. Come to find out after calling the memorial service myself just to follow up, I was told he was cremated along with many other animals, communal/general cremation, even though I explicitly signed documents in hand and online stating I wanted a private cremation to have my boy's ashes returned to me. So they went ahead and did what they wanted anyway. No calls or emails were made to me to tell me what they would do or what they did. I had to call and find out myself. How incompetent can a practice be and still remain in business? And I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to. Although they did assist and show some level of care, I still wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone. Not even my worst enemy. If it's really an emergency, please choose another emergency vet. I urge you. Condescending and dismissive response, exactly what I'd expect from an unprofessional practice. I already spoke with a real veterinarian who confirmed that changing the outer bandages was acceptable if they got wet. There was nothing professional about my dog lying in your lobby for over two hours bleeding with an open wound, after I specifically called ahead and arranged transport because I was told he would be seen. Euthanasia was offered before or after the grievous mistake your staff caused? I signed for private cremation and was never notified that anything other than what I agreed to would be done. I even called for clarification and was given none, only told I'd receive a call back that never came. To make it even worse, he wasn't even listed as a dog for the cremation, he was listed as a CAT. This place is an utter joke. Please keep your pets away from here. God forbid something happens, because you'll end up with the same careless treatment and the same kind of response. read more

My soul cat was compassionately euthanized at this location, and I am grateful for the kindness and patience I experienced on, quite literally: the worst day of my life thus far. As I understand it the staff is constantly rotated, so it feels weird to say much about my unique experience, but I will say... I cross the street to avoid this place these days. It's street-level, shares a block with a comedy club, and is at a popular intersection for many people entering the park. Why, why, why aren't these windows frosted? Or why isn't the policy to bring down the shades? I constantly pass this place and see people hunched over empty cat carriers or dog leashes, sobbing into the arms or people they're with. These people are making the most horrifying decisions of their lives and they are eye level with crowds on their way to a crap comedy establishment. We brought our pup into VEG as he was having complications with his bowel movement. They return my dog back to us deceased. We only left him with VEG, Williamsburg for a couple of hours. All I can say is VEG is only as good as their marketing scam. They might look professional with all their equipments and nicely furnished office center, their uniforms, anything beyond that they are unprofessional and clueless and just want your $$$$$$. If my dog could speak to me about how he was being mistreated at the facility! I would have sued them for malpractice! They are lucky now, but I am sure KARMA will deal with all those responsible for the passing of my poor pup. read more

I brought my cat to VEG ER because he was doing really poorly and our usual vet didn't have emergency visits available that day. It was determined that the best course of action was euthanasia. Veterinary staff members were understanding and helpful. The process, though heartbreaking, was ultimately smooth. We were told they would clip some hair from our cat and put it in a jar as a memento. We were also told, since we paid before the procedure, that we could leave immediately after it finished. Later, when we received our cat's urn in the mail, I was surprised to find there were no hair clippings included. I assumed there had been a mistake and that the fur would be at the ER, so I called them. I was told that they never clipped the fur, as they assumed I would check "fur clipping" off as an option with Final Gift, the private pet crematorium that they use. This was incredibly frustrating, as that step in the process was never made clear to me when I visited the ER. It was also very sad, because now I knew I would never, could never, have this last little piece of my pet. At first, the ER offered to send flowers. Eventually, they agreed to refund me my visit fee of $235. I appreciate this gesture. However, I'm still upset that this happened in the first place. read more

Any vet emergency is the worst possible situation and I hope you never have to end up here, but the vet techs who were working the late night shift this weekend were so very kind and made me feel as good as possible under the circumstances. If you have an emergency, please do not go here. My cat ran into paint, and I was scared that he ingested, and I did not know how to remove it, so I immediately took him to the vet. After arriving and explaining the issue a female vet told me to just wash him with dawn dish soap, I asked her if that can be done here, she then proceeds to give me a poison control number. I called them up and provided a claim number, but the vet had to call her to speak with them. I was waited three hours and for them to wash the paint off to the point where the paint dried and got hard. Not only that, but I even went and explained to her that his little paw is getting hard, but she continued to see other animals, chit-chat with her colleagues before attending my cat. Turns out there was paint on my cat's groin, and it got hard, so it's difficult to come off. Have they given him a bath immediately, my poor cat would have avoided going through all this. My poor cat is going through it with hard paint on his groin and paws. I'm a first time pet owner, I panicked and wish I never took him here. read more

UTI breakdown of charges Beautiful clean facility and friendly staff but heads up this is what you can expect to pay for a supposed UTI. My dog is 2.5 yrs old. Exhibiting no abnormal behavior, no loss of appetite, no visible sign of bloating or irregular feeling abdomen. No sign of vomiting and healthy bowel movements. Brought in fresh sample of pee and although they were worried it could be contaminated, see attached photo of pee shown to vet while in triage. I understand I am paying for the convenience of access to 24 hr care but in todays competitive market, and the economy heading into a recession...you'd think they'd come down in price. Went in at around 11pm on a Saturday night. Was immediately taken from the waiting room to get my little min pin looked at. He had a broken nail and it was bleeding, but Kat K took care of it asap. I was a little worried for him, and she reassured me everything was fine. She was swift and professional. I think I was in and out in under 10 minutes! Honestly, it's taken me longer to write this review than my visit here! Not only was Kat K amazing, the entire staff was so kind and helpful. Not only did they take care of me fast, but someone else walked in with their dog behind me, and was also immediately taken care of. I had been to this place once before when my little guy accidentally ate an edible, and they were amazing then too. Go here if you want your pet to die. I called before going in, wondering if I needed to. I was told it was of the utmost urgency that my cat come in ASAP. When I got there, they treated me as if I was being dramatic and gave him a lethal dose of pain meds for $300. Thank God I trusted my gut and took him to his primary vet, who identified the issue and had him transferred to Verg. It's also worth noting that Veg was supposed to send my primary vet the paperwork from the emergency room visit and just never did. If I had heeded the advice of this place, my cat would be dead. I posted this to their Google Reviews and they're trying to discredit me and rewrite history to make themselves look better. She was patient with me and answered any question I had ( no matter how many times I asked if I was making the right choice). Really happy to have them in the neighborhood even though needing them is never a happy experience. They took great care of my dog and luckily I did not have a lengthy wait and my dog got to leave the same night, but I did notice they generously had some amenities in their waiting area like snacks and coffee because some people unfortunately will need to spend great amounts of time there. They have some pretty high tech equipment and the place was really clean. The staff were super pleasant and efficient which is a lot to ask when dealing with nothing but stressed pet owners all day and night. I honestly thought the price was fair for the service considering this is a veterinary ER that is 24/7 in Northside Williamsburg. Sedation, a minor surgical procedure, meds and a cone was around $1150. It has been five days and my pup is greatly improved and happier. They also followed up fantastically with my regular vet, who called me to schedule a follow up to the procedure without me ever having to take initiative myself. I was referred to them by two different veterinary offices so that's also a good sign. Thought I'd leave a Yelp review in case anyone isn't as lucky to receive a referral but is nervous about going somewhere new. read more

$1,100 bill with hidden misc charges, no urgency in their care for my dog and zero answers. Avoid at all costs. They insisted I leave my dog there overnight so they could make more money. We left with zero understanding of what might be wrong and our dog was worse by the time we left. I do not trust anything that goes on in this office. They ran a blood test and had to do it a second time having messed up the first test. They also tried to get the trainees to do the test on a very sick, very scared dog. Ive had my cat Mooshu since he has a tiny kitten-this cat is my entire world. I noticed he was frequently visiting his litter box and having trouble urinating. I called my primary vet to schedule an appointment but they advised me that this was a very serious issue and that Mooshu needed immediate attention. I called Blue Pearl as it was the closest emergency vet in my area but they had a 4-6 hour waitlist. I used Yelp to help look for other locations and came across Veterinary Emergency Group and couldn't have been happier. This place was absolutely amazing!! My first experience was calling VEG to express my concerns about Mooshu and what my vet advised. The receptionists asked me if I wanted to speak with a doctor and was connected within 2 minutes!!! The doctor was extremely calming and polite as she advised me to come get him checked out as this can be serious or life threatening. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted right away (literally no wait). The receptionist was excepting our arrival, had all our information ready and we were shown to a private room within a total of 3 minutes being there!! We were also offered snacks, beverages, and instructions to the bathroom by multiple staff members which was so comforting in such a stressful situation. Now Mooshu is usually a pretty chill guy but he HATES the vet. They even referred to him as a big raccoon which I can't disagree with This guy can get feisty. He needed blood work done but thankfully all of the technicians and doctor were so gentle and calm with him while he hissed, growled, and clawed his way off the table. We were allowed to be as involved as we were comfortable-holding him, giving him breaks, talking to him. Everyone we encountered gave such great care to my cat. Now you can tell this doctor really loves what she does. She answered all of our questions with detailed explanations and instructions to follow for his health. She also gave us advice on options for medicated food, and prescriptions. She made sure we both understood and felt comfortable before leaving. This entire process took maybe 2 hours. No one wants to come to these places but when you do you should have an experience like this. When we checked out there was new staff at the front reception desk that was just as lovely as the morning shift! We were quickly checked out and offered car services home. Like WOW. I brought my senior cat to VEG Williamsburg for an ER visit initially this past summer when she was refusing food and drink, and acting lethargic. The receptionist did warn me via phone that it would be a long wait, however were very courteous and offered water as well as wifi and a comfortable waiting room. When they told me they needed to admit her overnight, I was given an estimate that was very clear as far as which treatments were necessary and why. No one likes surprise charges as ERs pet visits can be pricey enough as it is, but I found all the charges very clear and even received a partial refund when some treatments ended up not being needed (she only needed to stay one night instead of the initial 2). The nurses were very patient and calm even with my raging cat hissing, spitting and peeing all over everything and everyone while she was getting her IV inserted. Dr Jaclyn Jacobson was so thorough and empathetic, communicating with me constantly and making sure I understood all of the options available to me. Knowing I was worried about leaving her overnight, Dr Jacobson provided several updates throughout the following day via phone and text. Two weeks ago, when I brought her back for the same issues I was lucky that Dr Jacobson was there and remembered my cat. She and the nurses were once again so kind and took great care, and they were very empathetic while explaining the limited options available for her treatment (immediate hospitalization or being put to rest). While I did end up making the difficult decision to help her cross the rainbow bridge at home the following day, I truly appreciate the entire staff at VEG Williamsburg and would absolutely return there if I were ever in need of future vet ER services. The fact that this is an ER of course means you may have to wait as it's first come, first served. I did find going on a weekday afternoon meant it was much quieter (no wait) than my first visit which happened to be a weekday evening (2.5 hour wait). read more

My elderly cat Lyla suddenly went into kidney failure and other organ failure, I took her in and everyone was incredibly kind and caring with my cat and comforting to me. They explained everything clearly, the veterinarian was very honest and told me what was going on, which helped me decide to say goodbye to my sweet baby. The space is very relaxing, it doesn't feel like a hospital. They let me stay with her in a private room and even brought me a blanket when I was cold and offered drinks and treats. While it was not cheap, I was informed of all of the costs ahead of time, and since it was an emergency, I feel it was worth it. My sister came and they gave us space to say goodbye. I don't ever wish you'd have to come here for an emergency, but if you have to this is the place to go. From the doctors to the techs, the staff here go above and beyond. We unfortunately had to bring our puppy here after he had bloody diarrhea. They diagnosed him with Parvovirus, and kept him as an inpatient. Before deciding on whether or not we were going to admit him, they gave us the rundown/invoice of the estimated charges per item on the low and high end for the two days. If your pet needs to stay their longer they continue to update this invoice. Everyday they called to give updates in the morning and night. They also allow 1 visitor to stay and visit at any time of the day. Their open communication and explanation of everything that was happening helped somewhat ease our anxiety. Unfortunately, our puppy didn't make it through since the virus was winning and we could tell he was in a lot of pain. The staff was very comforting, and allowed us all the time and space to say our goodbyes. They walk you through the options of an urn or burial; we choose the urn which was delivered to our house a few days later. Although the outcome was far from what we wanted, we are very thankful for the staff there who comforted us along the way. I cannot emphasize enough how incredible the staff was at VEG in Williamsburg from start to finish. Charlie was in a life threatening situation, and the entire time they went above and beyond to give him the best care possible. As anyone knows, going to an emergency vet is such a terrifying experience for both the pet and owner, and I am so thankful we chose VEG. For the two days he was there, they informed us every step of the way what they were doing, why they were doing it, and answered the 5 million questions we had during our stay. Not only were they extremely efficient and nice, they also had a great sense of humor, which honestly is so needed in times when we are so worried about our pets. The staff there seemed like a family, and that environment was unlike any emergency vet I have ever been at. The fact that they allowed us to sit with our boy as he was receiving treatment is so unheard of, but it was such a game changer; it honestly made such a difference for both Charlie and us. The facility itself is so clean and properly maintained, and though I hope to never go to an emergency vet again, if I do it will 100% be this one. Dr. Lorenza Malaguti is such an INCREDIBLE doctor. She was so attentive, had such great bedside manner, and she truly took such great care of Charlie. Even after we left yesterday, she has been constantly following up with us to see how Charlie is doing and answering any questions we may have. It's so nice and rare to have a doctor you truly trust your pet with, and I have the utmost trust in her and her abilities. I would also like to say a special shoutout to Alma: she made our stay so enjoyable, and I told her this when we were leaving and I think it's worth emphasizing: she was born to do this job, and she is so good at it, it's insane. She truly cares about all of these animals as if they were her own, and it shows in how she treats them and their owners. I am not sure we could've gotten through this entire ordeal without her. Charlie is already feeling much better and we are so thankful to the entire staff at VEG Williamsburg for saving his life and giving him many more years to come. read more

Had to come here with a friend because her dog was horrible mauled by another dog during the evening. It was an amazing experience as the team was very tentative and quick to respond. They went through everything with my friend from procedure to pricing, no hidden fees and fully transparent. I was so worried for my friend that i called and checked on her pup several times a day and the doctor was amazing. Thank you Dr. Jacobson and Dr. Betancourt for taking care of Nala.
