They have so much land, and a little pond

Saturday was such a great summer like day. I went apple picking at Bushy Hill Orchard! This is such a beautiful family owned Orchard. Depending on when you go, you may find blueberries, peaches, and currently apples to pick. They have a tractor to drive a group of around 20 to orchard, or you may exercise your legs a bit. Apples are $14 for a bag of 7 lbs. They have 15,000 apple trees, they had tons and tons of red empire apples to pick from. I may have had one while picking. These apples are crunchy, fresh and juicy! In addition to the apples they had the most beautiful assortment of velvety looking mums for sale! They were 4 for $20, and I got 4. My car was so packed of goods on the way home! They also had some beautiful llamas and goats just enjoying the sunny day! This is a beautiful Orchard with plenty to offer. They also have a bakery and a cidery I still need to explore!

There was once an orchard that not only had excellent views and a great atmosphere but the best French toast ever. Why you may ask? Because the French toast is a hybrid of an apple cider donut. It's true genius and we have gone two consecutive weekends because of it. The skillet was great and I personally love seeing alpacas. I believe they have trivia nights on Thursday's!

My husband and I came here on a Thursday afternoon in mid September to pick our own apples. First time to pick apples! We started by getting an apple cider donut sundae. The donut is nice and crisp on the outside, and - yummy soft cake donut on the inside, with a slight apple cider taste, plus cinnamon sugar on the outside. And then we picked peach ice cream which was a little icey and not creamy enough in my opinion. The donut is the must! You can also add toppings ( Oreos, gummy bears, sprinkles, etc) and caramel or chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Then we moved on to the pick your own part! You can buy a yellow bag for $8.75 and it covers admission for 2 people plus all the apples that fit in the bag. When we weighed our bag at home, it was 4.5 lbs of apples, which is basically $2 a lb for apples. A red bag that fits a bushel of apples covers 5 people and was around $28. You get a short tractor ride to the orchard and they have signs on which rows you can pick apples on. This time we had 4 apple choices: JonaGold, JonaMac, Macoun, and Cortland. We took about 45 minutes in the orchard. When we got back from the orchard, we bought an apple cider slushy $2.75, so delicious!! We also got some apple cider donuts to go for the family! $0.75 each.

Wasn't much going on today, but this place sure looks like it has huge potential, Apple orchards, nice ice cream parlor, big bakery, all kinds of refrigerated cases with cheese and stuff. Place was dead today, almost no one there. We picked up a salted caramel goat cheese and a jar of salsa. They have some pretty sweet barbecue dinners schedule throughout the summer- those look like a strong possibility for us to try.

    Long line for baked goods

You would think a day of apple picking during New England fall would be fun and relaxing but unfortunately this was not the case. My sister mother and I took a bumpy ride up to the apple orchards and were sorely disappointed by the amount of "do not pick signs" we were greeted with amongst the rows of apples. The only options for picking were macoun, empire, and autumn sunshine. The apples tasted sour and not at all ready for picking. We went inside to quickly get some apple cider donuts and were instead left to wait in line for 30 MINUTES while the one girl behind the counter wrote down food orders, handled payment, and grabbed baked goods and drinks for customers. I saw some other workers in the back "preparing food" but not once did anyone come to help this girl doing all the work. I have never waited in such a long line for baked goods in my life and should have just left. It is unbelievable to me how an apple orchard could have so few staff members working on a busy Sunday afternoon and made for a horrible experience. We will be heading to another orchard next time for decent apples and wait times for baked goods.

Great time picking apples with the family. We had the cider donuts and fresh apple cider as well. Both were great. Coming here will be a new family tradition.

Such an adorable farm so close by with the most amazing apple cider donuts, excellent breakfast. I can't wait to return

My daughter and I had a pleasant experience apple picking in September . I appreciate the ongoing shuttles to the orchard to limit the wait time for guests. My only criticism is that there appeared to be more apples on the ground than on the trees and the selection was a bit limited. Overall we enjoyed our outing along with the fresh apple cider slushee and donuts we brought home

Even with Covid, they've stayed open on the weekends for an amazing breakfast and lunch. Theyre also keeping their U-pick open for fruits! Fat and juicy blueberries are going fast, so hurry and come fill your buckets.. i can't wait for the apples and hayrides to start!

They also have a brewery onsite, called Maple View Brewery (I've reviewed that as well.) It's a beautiful property with plenty of parking. The brewery barn serves delicious beers and a couple of cocktails. The restrooms were clean. There were plenty of seating outside; picnic tables, chairs, fire pits, and even a play area for the kids. There was a tire swing and some tire obstacles. There is a farmhouse that is used as an Airbnb too. They also have a horse barn and offer pony rides for a fee. It is kid-friendly and dogs are allowed on a leash and outside. We went on Sunday and a band was setting up to perform. They were also grilling some food. I've been in the winter and in the autumn, both times were fun but it is better when it's warmer out so you can sit outside. The seating inside can be limited on a cold and busy day. The service was always good too. One issue was, the bees were rampant; the beer tender said it's because they were using cinnamon sugar rim on the pumpkin beers lol. Overall, a fun place to hang out and we always enjoy our visits.

From flowers to soaps, vegetables to donuts, fruit to teas, knives to artisan creations, tie-dye…read moret-shirts to smoothies and chili dogs, the South Windsor Farmers Market has it all!! Set in the open Nevers Road Park, this market offers a variety local goods and a fun morning. When my friends and I walked over from nearby parking areas (which were plentiful and easy to get to), the smells of freshly cooked donuts from Faddy's Donut Shop and the sounds of a Grateful Dead tribute band met us. After grabbing some donuts, instead of sitting in the nice rest area set up near the band, we began down the line of stands. We found a little of everything we wanted and more!! We grabbed a couple slices of pie from Granny's Pie Factory, a brown butter dark chocolate chip cookie from LaBrioche Bakery, a couple of jars of homemade artisan teas from Whole Harmony, and a bouquet of freshly picked flowers from the Syme Family Farm. Shopping here can get a bit pricey, for example, a South Windsor Farmers Market tote bag was $5; however, you're supporting local businesses, many of which don't have storefronts. It's well worth chipping in a few extra bucks with the quality of the goods and the personal attention you receive at the stands. I would rather save my money and spend it here than at big chain stores that don't need it. Every vendor we went to, especially the individuals at the Syme Family Farm and the Whole Harmony stands, were extremely kind and helpful. The vendor of Whole Harmony allowed us to try a couple of teas he had out as well as the lavender lemonade (all of which were extremely delicious); he also told me how to properly steep the teas and gave me a loyalty card that offers a free jar after ten purchases. The vendors at the Syme Family Farm stand told me how they handpicked each flower, and wrapped up my bouquet--which was thoughtfully put together with care--and put it in a plastic baggie with wet paper towels around the stems to keep the flowers hydrated after I asked if they would be all right since we were not going directly home. I was very impressed by these two vendors' professionalism and kindness. The South Windsor Farmers Market is definitely a farmers market you need to check out!! It's open every Saturday in the morning (which is an extremely convenient and great time) from the middle of June until the middle of October. The organization running also has a list of what vendors will be there each week on a document on the website. You'll really enjoy every minute of being at this market, and you will undoubtedly find spectacular goods!!

"Walking in the wild west end Walking with your wild best…read morefriend" (Dire Straits) We found the West End Farmer's Market behind Farmington Avenue between Clemens Place Apartments and the Mark Twain House. There is excellent signage on Farmington Avenue that leads you to a big lot behind the market. We saw a smallish number of eclectic vendors - a Jamaican food stand, a bakery, a few produce stands, a jewelry stand, an artwork stand, a Hartford Library on Wheels truck, and more. We made two purchases - a Nutella babka from Manchester's Wicked Good Bakes and a Jerk Barbecue Mushroom Patty Panada from Hartford's The Ital Juicery Company. I had an absolute blast at the Ital Juicery stand. They had three generations of charming and delightful women behind the counter. That Patty Panda (sort of a cross between an Empanada and a Jamaican Patty) was a good-sized portion, somewhat justifying the hefty $10 price tag, but the flavor was amazing. Smoky, savory, and spicy, I mean sneaky spicy. Not sure what kind of peppers were in there, but if you told me they were Jamaican Scotch Bonnets I would not be surprised. That afterburn lasted over half an hour. I'll definitely be on the lookout for The Ital Juicery Company when I make the rounds of upcoming Farmer's Markets. As for the West End Farmer's Market, they're open on Tuesdays between June and September from 4pm-7pm. The hours change slightly to 3pm-6pm in October. PRO TIP Five stars for their community service vibe. "The West End Farmers' Market of Hartford believes that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy and delicious food". To that end, they match SNAP/EBT spending, effectively doubling the amount a buyer can use there.
