This is like one of the only real bars left in the area. There is no fluff. The staff is friendly…read moreand show respect, and tip. Strong drinks at old school prices. Don't get fancy. Most of the one star reviews I read seem to be about being treated rudely or unfriendly locals. If that's the case you earned it fair and square. It's what gives The Palace character. All the one star reviews are so whiny, like written by out of state putz's. Show respect and it's given back. Don't expect your ass to be kissed because you have a fat wallet.

I have come to the palace many times in my year that I've lived in Whitefish, and have had no…read moreproblems. That is until last Friday July 17th when I went to grab a drink, and check out the overall vibe. When I arrived I paid the cover, and then went to go get a drink. It was a bit too crowded for my liking so I paid for my drink, and decided to head out after maybe about 20 minutes total. Right as I got to the front door this woman named Jessie Grabbed me by the shoulder, and started yelling in my face telling me I am 86'd from the bar. Not only did she assault me, but became very irate when I was explaining to her I was leaving anyways so I wasn't sure what the issue was. She the continue by calling me Tristan which mind you my name is not Tristan, and I was so confused by all of this. I know most of the bartenders, and they have told me there is no problem for me to be in there since, and that Jessie is a bartender there herself. She was not working and also like I said assaulted me, a paying patron on The Palace Bar. I want this to come to whoever's attention is most necessary as I did not feel welcome or respected at all in that moment. I ended up leaving, and she tried following me out of the bar while still yelling profanities at me. This behavior is very unacceptable, and I can move forward with any action if need be in the future. This is a great establishment, but again that behavior from an off duty bartender who didn't even have the right person is not ok in any way. I hope this can shed some light on a bigger issue in which she has created. Thank you!

Come hungry... and maybe skip breakfast first! The portions here are absolutely huge, and every…read morebite was delicious. This is the kind of place where your eyes tell you, "I can finish that," and your stomach quickly reminds you who's really in charge. Even with a packed house, the service was friendly, fast, and made us feel right at home. The local neighborhood vibe is exactly what you hope for--relaxed, welcoming, and full of people who clearly know they've found a great spot. Whether you're pulling up a stool at the bar for a cocktail or settling in for a meal, you're in for a treat. Great food, generous portions, good drinks, and a fun atmosphere. We'll definitely be back... just with a little more room in our stomachs next time!

We came to A Bar one night after a very very long day at the beautiful Glacier National Park. We…read morewere sweaty and tired and needed some salty, greasy bar food with some booze. My friends that we were staying with were locals, and they recommended A Bar, so we knew we had to try it out. It was a Friday or a Saturday night, and we arrived after nightfall, so we were worried there wouldn't be anywhere to sit, but we miraculously found a nice six top with a great view of the karaoke that was about to start. Looking around, the ambiance was really cool. It had a heavy dive bar vibe. I could perfectly picture Garth Brooks singing in the corner with a rowdy crowd packing the place. A lot of the tables were talking or shouting friendily to one another, showing me that there were a lot of locals and/or regulars there. But also, the place sold merch, as if it were a tourist attraction. A very interesting blend. Service was great. He was just a cool dude that efficiently brought to us everything we ordered. Beer showed up in a hurry, the food came out timely and nice and hot. Very nice fella. As for the food, it was surprisingly very good. Like, the best food we ate the entire time we were in Montana. We opened up with the A Bar Nachos (Corn tortilla chips smothered with melted cheddar, refried beans, taco meat, diced tomatoes, olives, jalapeno, and green onions. Served with salsa and sour cream. Wow! These were good nachos. First of all, they were huge. You can't have small plate of nachos, it's not a good look. Second of all, they were layered beautifully. Not all the toppings were topped on top, they were layered in between layers of chips, leaving no boring bites even towards the end. Third of all, they added beans. Not everyone does that, but everyone should, because it spreads well and they're a great meat substitute. Just amazing nachos. For my main meal of the night, I ordered the Cowboy Burger (1/3 pound Angus Patty, lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheddar, onion rings, and barbecue sauce on a grilled Brioche bun). Also awesome. A huge patty, cooked perfectly, sitting on a bun that was hearty enough to support it, stacked high with crispy onion rings and skewered with a giant steak knife to really set the presentation off right. A little fresh veg, a good amount of sauce, and a literal mountain of tater tots really made this a super satisfying meal. I also got to try the Shrimp Basket (Crispy Breaded shrimp, deep fried and served with French fries, cocktail sauce and lemon). These were nice. Nice, crispy shrimp, crispy tots, nothing was too greasy. A nice way to end the meal. Or so I thought that was the end. At the last second, I saw on their specials board that they had a huckleberry cheesecake. We were on the way out already, so I ordered it to go, and when I got it home, I naturally paired it with some Tillamook huckleberry ice cream and had one of the best nights of my life.
