We had to go to the bar to get soft drink refills. 30 minutes after we had placed our order, which included 6 burgers, we were informed that the kitchen only had 2 burger patties left. What's townier than a townie bar and divier than a dive bar--The Remington. Full disclosure I used to drink here when I was underage during Winter Carnival (fully 30+ years ago now). It's part arcade, part gambling hall (video gambling has been legal in Montana forever and every gas station, restaurant, and bar has a bank of Keno machines), and it has a restaurant (wasn't open when we were there). It's old with dark wood everywhere and like most bars in Whitefish, natural light is not common. As usual, the drinks are cheap and the conversation is interesting. read more

My buddies and I are from Oregon. I have the new Oregon "real ID" and they have the older version of the Oregon ID. All the bartenders refused service to my three buddies. We called the cops who confirmed IDs and told them they were legit. All the bartenders still refused service. The Palace, Northern, and Montana Tap House were all great and if you are from out of town I would highly recommend going there before stepping foot in this joint. Ridiculous. read more

The Remington makes me think of an old pirate pub Jack Sparrow would frequent ages ago. The layout is great. Lots of open space, nice bar(s), and so on. Its age shows but I sort of adds to the character. But the local crowd that frequents could be mistaken for some of the crew of the Black Pearl. Looking for things not available in the regular market, check the black market here. You might just find what you're looking for. Food is from the Mexican place next door, what they lack in quality they provide in quantity. Hungry? If your belly is spilling out of your shirt and your wife has a tummy down to her knees. This might be the place for you to eat. During the peak tourist season these things are far less noticeable. Don't get me wrong, had plenty of good fun at the Remington and so will you. read more

Probably the best spot in Whitefish. Two full bars, really cool and beautiful bartenders, two live poker tables, pool tables, ping pong table, foosball table, karaoke, shuffle board. Wednesday's is Bingo night which is awesome, $2 a card and the pots are anywhere between $100-200.00. Weekends are always fun, pretty much has anything to keep you entertained for hours. Its also attached to La Hacienda which is an awesome Mexican restaurant. Totally authentic and tasty. The bar lines were a little long at time not sure if they were under staffed that night, but besides that I had a great time. I was very surprised by the quality menu, "Regional Mexican." Extremely well made dishes true to their heritage. The "Remington" ID a very large bar, and you can eat just about anywhere in the place. The restaurant has quiet seating if you like the quiet. Live poker most nights, live music on the weekends, slots everywhere, shuffle board table that you'll have to learn, it needs sanding. Pool tables. The wait staff is very courteous, food has been great. I can say I have never been disappointed by choosing to eat there! Went there last night (monday) and found a rude rude rude male bartender. My friend asked how much a certain drink was, and then commented to me that it was a bit more than at another local bar, the Palace. The bartender overheard this and immediately got aggressive with us and yelled "then why don't you leave and go there?!" Umm, yeah, you don't have to ask twice. Horrible! Received misinformation from the staff regarding the cover charge. We arrived 1 hr before they began charging cover and were told by staff that we didn't have to pay a cover if we were already there. Then we were kicked out by the rude staff for not paying cover. We tried to explain that we were misinformed. No apology. Very rude to us. They made us leave.We already bought several rounds of drinks and played several arcade games. My bartender was a blue/yellow-eyed mountain man named Chris. Hot damn those huckleberry infused vodka drinks were killer!!! (Give this man or the pretty little ladies your money!) This is a great spot to catch a game but don't go picking a drunken fight if your team sucks that day because that backcountry hippie-cowboy at the door might introduce you to Bob Marshall. Despite the massive beard, that man IS NOT Santa Claus no matter what your beer goggles tell you! (The only gift you'll get for trying to sit on his lap is an open can of whoop ass.) I did not have a chance to sample the food, just the drinks and a friendly game of shuffle board but it was one of my favorite nights out during my last trip to MT. Great people, fun place so as long as YOU don't suck personally, it should be well worth the adventure. read more
