Both sharp pain in class and then ongoing pain for days after class. I was worried I was going to need surgery, or have to stop practicing yoga- but Sulyn set me straight in no time. I filled out an extensive history beforehand. When I came in we did a movement assessment - I showed her the postures causing me pain. She was also interested in how I walk and stand. She identified right away that I'm overextending my knees, which is putting pressure on the area of the labral tear. She taught me a series of corrective exercises to strengthen the muscles needed to prevent the hyperextension. Then time for the massage work! This is not a rub-some-oil-on-your-shoulders and call it a day - its proper orthopedic massagework from someone who is obviously an expert in what she does. She was extremely firm and confident in her work, but aware enough to recognize my limits. I left feeling a limberness and relief I've not had in years. I've been doing my exercises diligently and my pain is vastly reduced (more like an occasional twinge). Understanding that healing is a process, I'm sure I'll be back for some 'maintenance' work, but I know I'm in expert hands. I'm also back on the mat and so so grateful to Sulyn!

After trying a couple physical therapists, which offered little to no help (other than a quick…read moremassage and a stretch or two), I decided to see if I could get some help from Sulyn due to all the good reviews on here. And I have zero regrets. Well, except maybe the fact that I did not come here first instead of wasting all my time with PT and a pain specialist. Love the space, clean, looks like a small, cozy, simple home gym with a two chair waiting area, two massage rooms and a bathroom/shower. Although she mentioned she would be moving to a new space not too far, but since her work is very private, one-on-one with clients, I can't imagine it won't always be organized and clean. I opted for the 2 hour assessment, massage, and exercises. The first thing I did was fill out the questionnaire, and then she came over to read it over, ask questions, so she could really understand what I hoped to accomplish from the session. Next, she watched me walk back and forth, since my problem was pain in the hip/side, sciatic area. Again, the first person I saw who ever took the time to do that -- she was the only one who wanted to see if she could find out the reason why I might be having pain in the first place, right to the source. It only took a few minutes before she concluded she could see where the problem was stemming from. She showed me a few corrective moves, explaining how the pain was radiating up and down my leg from how I walked/stood. Next up was the massage: this is definitely a sports/medical massage. While she had the table, and puts on some light music and it's dim, it's no frills and she goes right to the source of pain. Her massage was deep, sometimes painful, but because I had been in pain for so long, and so stuff, the deep pressure felt very good. The remaining time was spent doing more in depth exercises, more repetitions, recording the exercises on my phone so I had something to reference at home. And then one last massage to get out some soreness I had from working new muscles, and then I was done! Money well spent, because I got more out of those two hours than I did with hours/days/weeks shuttling around to other PTs who seemed rushed, trying to deal with too many patients at the same time. And they all said my pain was from weak abs, but they never really took the time to ask, or see, if there was another cause for my pain. So essentially, I could have done PT for months, working on my core strength, and still be having pain, while shelling out hundreds. Also, within a few days to a week of doing what Sulyn suggested, the stabbing/sharp pain was all gone. Some soreness and tightness still lingers because I need to strengthen the area/other muscles, but this is a great start. More progress than I've had compared to anywhere else and I cannot express the relief I feel that I finally found a solution. Sulyn is very patient, knowledgeable, and most of all, a real person who you can talk with, be honest and open with, no fear of any judgment. The time really flew by with her because she was so easy to be around, extremely personable. She even shared some of her own experiences, and the fact that she has to consciously make time for her own corrective exercises otherwise she has pain too. She relates to you. If you have pain, consider coming here. Her expertise is right up there with any other medical professional.

I first came across Angelo and his incredible massage skills in San Francisco. Then I relocated to L.A. and found he had, too -- I was thrilled. He is such an intuitive masseuse, and so talented. If I told him I needed relaxation, I'd end up so blissed out at the end of 60 or 90 minutes with him I wouldn't want to leave. Likewise when I requested a massage that would energize me, he would deliver. Also, I used to get geek shoulder (a knot knot under the shoulder blade on my mousing arm) and he completely worked it out, and talked to me about better ergonomics. The guy's amazing.
