Watch out for Dr. Mooney/Muni aka Dr. Munirat Adebimpe! She will override your scrips. Read on. They lied to me about her name and who she was, so half the time with my memory loss I had no idea who I was seeing. No blatant nametag that I could see either, so pretty much misinformation. I wasn't allowed to request another MD. My wallet was stolen by their security. They gave me thorazine after I found out which made my myoclonus VIOLENT the next morning. Munirat overrode every prescription I had at my pharmacy - she tried to give me 20q of what I already had plus more of Propranolol and Venlafaxine when I already had enough, which could have been a dangerous situation. I had 90 PROPRANOLOL seeing as I was just discharged from cardiac critical care less than a week before I came here. People repeatedly pointed at me when I did whiteboard therapy. I had to wait for a cane I fought for, with no fall risk bracelet unlike all the bluehairs. I was graphically told about how some drank bleach just to get in. Shower was inaccessible - no guardrails. Most had adjustable HOSPITAL BEDS - whereas mine was hard plastic. I have a genetic spinal degenerative disease in my 20s and woke up every day nearly seizing in pain. They wouldn't let me get up to pee one day, and I dropped everything including my cane, drink and items on my table trying to make noise to get help. I waited 50 minutes. 50. They will give you broken pills, tell you it happened when they took the pills out of the container, and then tell you 1mg of your anti-seizure med is 2mg when you full well know it's NOT. Stan told me it wasn't a full dose due to a benzo cutback. I asked him if he thought I'd exhausted all of my options like my GP said and he said "We're bending over backwards for you. It looks that way. I suggest taking a med Uber to Boston General." Why are you here? To sit there looking aimless while you judge my music taste in therapy? I said "If this is breaking your back, then you need to push a little further and break your spine like I am with this cane because literally nothing you are doing is helping." Peter was a SOB who literally laughed at me while I was in pain asking for my anticonvulsant med to help me not fall while I peed, meanwhile I was also concerned about my stolen wallet which I never got back/never heard back about. My family was on the horrors the entire time. Rumors of positive COVID cases, no mask wearing, no hand washing. A senile white guy spitting at a black man when they were roomed together. White guy should have been shipped off to Slater! They also apparently allow victims of abusive relationships - and I mean this kid had WOUNDS - to have their GFs on other floors come up and visit them. My mom was repeatedly told no visitors when she asked while I saw this couple being physical. Believe what you hear in the reviews about abuse, because it's RAMPANT. Another 2 tried to 'elope' or at least made plans to, shared clothes, and were walked in on by someone in charge of therapy. When 'she' was moved, chairs were thrown at glass. Downright harmful, abusive and a very sorry situation to consider I was the one being laughed at at times for nearly having a seizure just trying to walk. Hotter than hell in this brick sh-thouse if you're sad enough to be there in the summer. I believe it's bldg 3. I needed icepacks. I was repeatedly looked at in the bathroom. It literally takes an hour to go without the Klonopin the majority of them would not give. Staff that come in on the weekend will give you your meds if you need them. People lying on the floor laughing. No space to even sit. I knew it was Adderall/Lithium drugging before I even bothered asking. They treat you like an addict regardless of why you're there because they're creating them. Pushed Seroquel on me every day when it already failed years before. Not to mention it can kill long QTers. Came here after every hospital wanted nothing to do with me post-CVE - time frame was June-July 2022. Not allowed an AD in case something happened. My rights were infringed. I had plans for VSED and when I brought it up to Munirat I was lectured about it. She insinuated I didn't know. Her eyes bulged, most likely because she'd be losing a patient as well as her $. Pain patients have a choice - understand you needn't be a part of it if you're not willing to be cooperative. Shows up as Affinity Physicians in Boston which is troubling. Dr. Rengifo shook his head at my entire experience and could not give me 1 referral due to wait times despite him saying I needed 2 surgical consults, one of which was NEURO. I was billed mainly through Medicare despite having dual coverage to pick up fees. They failed to put my insurance in the computer properly. Just another abuse tactic. Absolute clusterf---k and no wonder some poor dude blinded himself here years ago. read more

No way to contact the Hospital and Financial Help via the phones numbers provided If I didn't need help with my mental state before, I do now, trying to reach anyone - anyone - through different phone numbers for days, but instead being stuck in a game of musical chairs/mailboxes. And yes, I am always the man out. I can't rate anything beyond that firewall of mailboxes because I was never given a chance. Butler has changed a lot in a short amount of time, and not for the better. Patients are now treated more like prisoners; no more bringing in your own toiletries or comfort items like coloring books, photos of loved ones, etc. Last time I was inpatient, a man came into the room I shared with another female to do "checks" which, it was actually more like a raid. He turned the lights on in the middle of the night, flipped mattresses, rifled through belongings...super comforting if one has PTSD, for example. Beware of Dr. Tara Malakshahi (I likely spelled her last name wrong); in acute crisis she advised to kill myself. She should not be working in psychiatry. My last inpatient "experience" was in September/October, 2018 and I was not prepared for how much the hospital had changed - again, not for the best. Patients were once treated like people; each patient used to each have a cubby to keep personal belongings in - no more. I noticed the AA mantra painted on a wall in one unit, that was off putting as not every patient has an addiction or drug/alcohol issue. I was moved from the "AA Unit" to the regular psych unit which again...each patient has a unique situation so to cram everyone in together in a general population situation, it's a recipe for disaster. I don't know what the adult psychiatric intensive unit is like, and it's hard to imagine since the regular or general psych unit is full of patients who seem to need more intensive care. If they're put in the general population, it makes me wonder how severe ones mental health must be to be admitted to the intensive psych unit. In the general psych unit, one female patient was walking around pretty much naked as her gown wasn't tied or buttoned and kept falling off. Staff looked at this woman with disgust, not compassion. It took a WHILE before one staff member finally helped her to take a shower. When patients realize they're not going to get the help they need at this "hospital", they usually resort to lying and saying they feel much better and are good to go, just to get the H out. I've done it myself, after my last inpatient stay. The stress of being at Butler with patients who are violent and staff who couldn't care less to intervene....it will test your willpower at a time when you're likely fragile to begin with. I was here not that long ago. The staff were terrific and on top of everything when needed. I loved the walks outside on the grounds. I looked forward to them everyday. A couple times a day for the most part. There was a good staff level the unit seemed to be staffed well as far as staff and patients go. When someone wanted to talk they were their for that person. Including me when I needed to talk. Groups were some of the best ones I have ever attended. And that is a lot of them. Overall I would not mind going back here. read more

As someone has created a Yelp page for this hospital, I thought that I had to put in my two cents about Butler. Butler is a co-occurring psychiatric facility which means they offer psychiatric and substance use hospitalization, detox, and outpatient services. The grounds are gorgeous and the hospital has been around since the 1800s. It is located on the Butler campus off of Blackstone Blvd in the East Side of Providence. The Butler campus has many buildings including an assisted living facility and other businesses, but the hospital is in the very back of the campus, near the Seakonk River. I have experience with Butler both professionally and personally. I used to work at a mental health agency in RI and my clients always preferred Butler when in psychiatric crisis and in need of admission to a psych hospital. The staff do seem to care and appear to enjoy their jobs. They reach out to families, assist with discharge planning, and attempt to get clients to do some sort of step down program to assist them with after care. On a personal note, I've had a person I am close to that was hospitalized here a few times and for an outpatient hospital program. Again, the staff were very attentive and supportive of this person. They offer and encourage visiting by family and friends and do appear to genuinely care about the patients. These are locked units and visitors must follow strict rules and check in at the registration desk. The patients meet with their psychiatrist regularly, get vital signs read daily, and go to groups. Apparently the food is pretty good, according to both my clients and the individual I know personally. I've been in numerous hospitals' psych units as part of my previous job and of all of the ones I've seen, Butler has the most therapeutic style milieu I've witnessed in the state. It doesn't look like a dull, sterile (scary) hospital floor. It is open, bright, and calming. I can only imagine how scary it could be to be in a psychiatric facility (due to stigma and just not being able to go home when you want to) and Butler seems to have an atmosphere that is least hospital-esque. Staff are present to answer questions and aren't behind a huge glass wall, like in some of the other hospitals. They also allow patients who have been deemed safe to go outside to go on staff led walks, which I believe is very important to their well being. If you are person who is deal with mental health or substance use issues, Butler is what I would consider to be the top for-profit hospital in the area. They provide inpatient and detox services and also partial hospitalization programs that are specific to what patient's needs are. You can call the hospital in advance to arrival to check on beds, insurance info, and get on a waiting list if need be. it is important to be aware of the care that is out there for you and your loved ones who have these issues. read more

Send your loved one anywhere else! My loved one was discharged suddenly from a psych ward without any notice or family communication whatsoever. They wrote his very time sensitive prescriptions wrong and this could have ended very badly. He needed to be rehospitalized ELSEWHERE 4 days after leaving Butler. Awful. read more

My experiences with Butler have been extremely positive. I have had family and friends who have had great success with the programs there. The staff is excellent, very attentive to both family and patient base. The campus and its buildings are bright and beautiful providing a positive feeling, This facility deals Solely with addiction and psychiatric issues. Yes the food is terrific. read more

It is awful. This place feels like a prison. It is filthy. No staff to be found anywhere and the security are not helpful. My recommendation is to go to Miriam less than a mile down the street which is a real state of the art hospital facility. read more

Told them I wasn't willing to do group. Many times. Told them what was going on with me and specifically what i was looking for and they said they could help. They're making me do "pretty much all group". Wasted 7 HHOURS of my day being cold not eating not allowed to go to the bathroom for them to only tell me to do group. And give me no resources like they said they would. read more

The Untold Truth Behind Therapy The truth is that the most common treatment is role playing, for the therapist to be a healthy role model. They are able to do this by taking their own personal emotions out of your interactions. That why family members are not allowed to treat family members. No matter how strong your bond is with your therapist it was created through manipulation. In fact the stronger your bond is the better the manipulation and treatment is working. I was a victim of this treatment and I say victim because it is undisclosed to you when entering treatment. My role play three therapist took part in, and my primary care doctor. Another doctor that I reached out to for help later chimed in. It left me feeling delusional with manufactured events and that had a really bad affect on me when I was abruptly snapped out of it, after six months into it. I told my therapist if she was doing anything underlining to please stop. I was Struggling to get a grasp on it while my therapist and her colleagues she shared office spare with persisted with another aspect of her underlining treatment. I didn't ask for this treatment and did not recognize it as treatment. I thought they were making fun of me. At least that's what it felt like and it was very hurtful. I just couldn't take it anymore and my therapist was all for me turning myself into the hospital, until I got there and doctors told me she had made mistakes, that was even scarier. I could go on and on about this nightmare I lived, but I would rather not. My purpose of writing this is to warn others of this because when it goes wrong other therapist and doctors are quick to come to each others rescue. Basically you are wrong matter what. No matter how their actions affected you. My therapist always told me how honest I was, how sweet, how generous, how caring and even called me an angel. She even told me she would see me for free right before she told me to call my insurance company for a new billing code. Now that her actions had such a bad effect on me and were so damaging other therapist are making me out to be a malicious lair despite the fact that all of this is documented in my records that they have access to. They would rather make me out to be a lair then admit this so commonly used treatment had such a bad effect on me. They are more concerned with defending a colleagues actions then offer a victim of this treatment help. After this experience I've been waiting for over a year for any kind of help while parties involved covered their actions as much as possible. I sincerely want the public to be aware of this treatment and hopefully my experience will help others. Maybe I can stop this from happening to someone else. Who knows how many times it happened already. I am left feeling worthless considering that professionals could do all of this to me and I have little to no rights. This shouldn't have happen to me and I don't want this to happen to anyone else.
