Online reviews for Butler's were largely favorable so I called to get a quote for a few minor repairs on my car. Mr. Butler was knowledgeable and gave me a fair quote based on my description. He was up front and told me he couldn't see me until a week later -- fine by me as my car wasn't in immediate need of repairs. Dropped my car off the following week in the morning. Mr. Butler called me back a few hours later to give me an update. The repairs I had originally asked for were complete, however, he wanted to recommend a few others as he had noticed some other items that needed attention. I appreciated him giving me a heads up and asking for permission rather than surprising me with the additional costs later. My car was fixed in less than a day and runs smoothly. No complaints -- Butler's will have my business if future repairs are needed. read more

My daughter calls from school to tell me the car is broken down on the UGA campus. I am 800 miles away in NY. We had to get a tow truck and needed a place to tow the car to. I figure some shop is going to try to rip us off since I'm not local. I found Butler through Allstate and gave them a call. I dealt with Travis. He told me to tow the car in and he'd take a look. The car got there after 5p, but he took a look anyway and called me with the estimate. He said maybe he could have it done by Friday depending upon parts (this was Wednesday). The next call was from Travis at 1p the next day to tell me the car was fixed. He also found the parts cheaper with another distributor and the final bill was $400 less than the initial quote. Not only the best in Athens, they're the best compared to everyone in Atlanta. Though I live in Atlanta, it's actually worth it to have them service my car in Athens. They do excellent, precise complete reliable work. They're honest, fast, and very reasonable on price. Most of all, they really care about your car. They care about your safety, about your future maintenance. My Google review won't let me write another review for this other separate experience I had with them, so here I am on Yelp. Anyway Long stlory short, there was a bad rattling noise under my car. Turned out, the back tire on my car almost fell off - they diagnosed and fixed it Fri afternoon even though they were totally booked and couldn't schedule to look at it til Monday. Since it was a simple fix, they charged me a grand total of ZERO! But that's not it. I was so thankful, I told them to ring me up for fifty bucks at least, and TJ said it was ok. Took my car there twice for two separate issues. Both times got excellent quality, fast, courteous, and most importantly HONEST service. Each time, they could have ripped me off and they did not: First time, I thought the car needed a new alternator and was ready to spend the bucks for it but then it ended up being something else ... for about a tenth of what I was expecting. My alternator was indeed old but didn't need replacing yet. Based on that, I knew a typical rip-off-shop wouldv'e replaced it claiming it was part of the problem. Second time, fuel sensor gauge was failing resulting in three different component fails (oxygen sensor, fuel level sensor, and sender unit) ... all repaired for about a quarter of what the dealer was estimating! The only complaint I have about them ... is that they're not in Atlanta closer to my home! UGA guy here. read more

Great place for an oil change - they didn't try to sell me anything and I really appreciated that! Being a female who takes her car to the shop alone without a protective male figure in tow, I often get told that I need something extra that will cost a few hundred dollars. Not this place. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR ANYTHING MAJOR, especially if you don't know what is wrong. I took my car in for a noisy belt and a rainwater leak. They said the leak shouldn't be a problem, nbd. Seemed like nice guys, so I was excited to FINALLY have this leak fixed. **Did not call me once with a quote; they just kept ordering more parts, and I found out only when I called them repeatedly. They said they found the problem causing the leak, fixed the problem and, bam, no more leak. EXCEPT IT RAINED A FEW DAYS LATER AND IT'S STILL LEAKING. Best I can figure is they didn't actually test it to see if what they did actually resolved the issue. Give them the chance and these guys will rob you blind and have you thanking them for it. read more

Don't go here. Back in October I had a fuel pump go out on me. I took it over to Butlers, it took them about 2 weeks. Pretty long, but whatever, I don't drive that much. I went to pick it up and the brakes were out - not their fault, my brake lines were pretty corroded. He took it back into the garage, spliced in a line, told me the lines would need to be totally replaced soon. Good enough service for a place close to my house, I thought. So I drive it 3 more times, and the brakes go out again (so that $50 patch job they did was worthless - like getting a manicure on an arm with gangrene). I bring it back to Butlers. 4 months later, after many calls and visits, I finally took it back. It had not been repaired at all - Travis never even got me a price quote - and my brand new battery was dead and not holding a charge from sitting so long. I took it over to a brake and alignment shop on Atlanta Highway and they fixed it in 3 days. So if you want to have your car not get fixed and sit around for obscene amounts of time, bring it here. Travis is a nice guy, but there's a reason there are dozens of cars in the lot. read more

They are busy, but they'll generally get your car done while you're at work. UGA Dads can rest easy. My daughter had the check engine light come on so I told her to take it to the local Ford dealer. Well, they diagnosed the issues, called me on the phone and quoted a price for the repairs. Now, I'm not a mechanic but I know enough to know when someone's trying to take advantage of a situation. And with the help of the Internet, I was able to figure out that the fellas at Ford were going to try to take advantage of the "out-of-town" Dad. So, I had my daughter text a photo of the diagnostic report and called around to a few places until I finally spoke with Travis. I let him know what the diagnosis was and asked him to quote it. He kindly spent more than a few minutes on the phone explaining the issues that Ford diagnosed and said he'd get back to me in a few minutes. Ten minutes later, he called back with a quote that detailed each issue, the cost to replace each part and the labor charges. And the best part of this story, his quote was almost 60% lower than the Ford quote! There is one other thing that was important to me. I found Travis to be open, honest and forthright during our phone conversations but everything we did was over the phone so you really don't know. But when I spoke with my daughter after the repairs were made, she was able to confirm that he was indeed a very nice, honest guy. read more

Sent my son there for a malfunctioning passenger side window and was poised to do a low rating when he called back and said that the window was still having the same issue after the repair. The car was taken back and the window was repaired (faulty new regulator) and all fees waived. My son said the people there were very nice and professional. Great place, honest shop. I have had several good experience here with both my and my wife's vehicles so I will just give the latest example. My car's run light would flash quickly several times and then the check engine light would come on. A quick search on the internet revealed the problem was most likely a wiring short and that reaching the parts and fixing the problem was a labor intensive all day affair. I dropped it off expecting a fairly hearty bill. Turns out the problem was I needed new bulbs. Yeah I felt dumb for not checking the bulbs first, but Travis and his team didn't take advantage when they easily could have. An apparently rare trait in the autorepair world. Wow! This place is A+mazing!!! I found this place on Yelp (great reviews) as I was visiting my parents who live in Danielsville, close to Athens. I drove my extra car from Texas to give to them and I wanted to make sure it was running well before I left. They looked it over and fixed the front brakes and the price was very affordable! They did such a great job I brought my other car there the next day bc my engine light was on due to an evaporative emission leak. They fixed it the same day and when I asked what the cost was they said - NO CHARGE!! They even did a free trip check before my trip back to Texas!!! The only problem is that I can't find places like this in Houston. I would trust this father and son business with any car I own. It's so hard to find an honest mechanic but this place is the best experience I've ever had!!! A+++++ read more

I took my car there and was told my car needed a $680 part plus "a couple hundred to install it". I called the dealership and part was $290. I ended up taking it to James Brooks in Commerce Ga and was told a broken wire and $120 to fix it. Needless to say I am angry Butlers tried to garner a grand or more to fix something that didn't need fixing. Never again. I will not recommend these shistering crooks to anyone. I would give them no stars if I could. read more

When you have a daughter attending UGA and she calls to tell you her car just ran out of water and the engine light came on. Take it to these guys. I'm a bit of a backyard mechanic but I live 2 hours away and I have a day job. I was impressed on the phone with them but even more impressed that they only fixed what was wrong and didn't try and sell me more then I needed. Very happy with the results, the price and the no hassle to make it easy and quick for my daughter. If you have a kid at UGA (or your car is broken and not sure what to do) take it to these guys. After my daughter called me from Athens (where she is a student), saying that her air was not cooling in her car, I used Yelp to find someone to check it out. I found several great referrals about Travis at Butler, so I called and got her an appointment. He called me after looking at her system, and found that it was only a fuse. He replaced the fuse and called me to say he found the issue. I asked how much for his time and he stated "No charge...it only took a few minutes". Wow how great is that? He still found the issue, so it took a few minutes and we all know that time is money...especially in the auto game where he could have told me anything and charge whatever he wanted. We have been taking our cars here since we moved to Athens, after getting a sparkling recommendation from a few UGA faculty members. We haven't been let down yet! Not only do they do a great job, but they're also very convenient for anyone who spends their days on campus or at 5 points. That said, it is best to drop your car off for the day instead of waiting, as they're always very busy. Call 'em up to make an appointment, then drop it off early in the morning and walk or catch a campus bus to campus. When the end of the day rolls around, hop a bus back as there is a stop right across the street. Prices are reasonable and work is solid - if it isn't right bring it back and they'll fix you right up. When we were seeking advice on a new car after our old Neon finally ended up with a very pricey electrical problem they did a great job recommending a good car dealer, too! The folks who work there are friendly. They also offer towing. Never used the potty here, as I'm not there for long. read more

They were extremely busy when I took my car over but Travis said I could leave it and he could work me in within a few hours. It took a while longer for Travis to actually look at my car (because there were already so many cars there) but he fixed it within minutes and didn't even charge me because the work was so simple. Such an honest and nice guy! He has a couple daughters himself so he definitely isn't one to screw women over like some automotive places do!
