Even though their internet presence implies Mr. Tingle still owns the business, he retired and sold. Bottom line, in July I paid them almost $2,000 for nothing. I took it somewhere else, and it was clear Car Craft had either ignored or missed an easy fix. I hope it works out for them, but buyer beware. In October 2024, my daughter took her car in for an intermittent brake light issue. She asked Carcraft to add a little brake fluid if needed as she was returning home the following week. We had already made an appointment with AAA for them to look at her brakes the following week. Carcraft wrote up the ticket and took her car back. When they brought it back up, they had taken the liberty to add a diagnostic charge of $69.98 in addition to the original quote of $16 for the brake fluid. To get the car, she had to pay the total charge, including the unauthorized diagnostic fee. The diagnostic was done to add potential work (approx. $4000) they recommended to to be completed. She declined the additional work. I called CarCraft and spoke with Diana, who agreed after a lengthy discussion to issue a credit for the diagnostic charge. She assured me that it was issued on the 26th of October; however to this day, we have not received the credit of $69.98. I have never had a credit not show up so I can only assume that she was not truthful when she told me the credit had been issued back to our credit card. Please do not use this facility. They took advantage of my daughter and did not make it right. read more

I had to take my 2022 Kia Soul Turbo here after another shop lied to me about being able to fix my inner tie rod. EVERYONE in this office was beyond pleasant! Shaun was amazing and took excellent care of me! They went above and beyond, especially after finding out I needed more work done than what I was told by another shop. They communicated beyond what I was expecting and the price was cheaper than I expected! I bought a vehicle from Car Craft last week. On the way home the ac was blowing hot air. Tried adding freon but no luck. The vehicle was sold as is with no warranty. I called Tyler at Car Craft the next day and he told me to bring it in at my convenience. The next day they fixed the problem ($350) in a couple of hours and didn't charge me a dime. BEWARE/Local dealership has much lower hourly rate. Car Craft charges more per hour. They are deceptive on the quotes. My daughter (UGA student) took her car in for a basic brake check. Nothing special about getting brakes fixed. They sent me 3 different quotes for brakes with the lowest closest to $900. When I called to discuss, they suggested we negotiate which raised major concerns. Remember this is for only brakes. They pretended like they are connected with UGA which they are not. After a full day talking about a basic brake repair I could not figure out why the cost was so high. I asked what they changed an hour and they did not want to share that. Once they told me it was clear this was a money grab for a college kid. Car Craft changes more per hour vs what the actual dealership charges. This was a first as never in my life has a dealer been less money.We picked up the car, took it to the dealer and had all the work Car Craft wanted to charge $900 plus done in 2 hours for $425. Car Craft tried to charge me extra for brake fluid which is ironic as the head of service from the dealership told me my brake fluid was flighty and not touched in a long time. Car Craft tried to take money from my 19 year old daughter for nothing. I also never received my dialogistic info I was promised. I called the shop and the owner asked asked me never to call again. My family is on a college tour road trip from CT and while driving from Atlanta to Athens yesterday, our brakes started making a terrible scraping sound. I searched for places and found Car Craft's website which looked like they ran a good business. They answered our call at 7:30am and said to bring the car in as soon as we got to Athens and that they could definitely repair our brakes that same day. They even offered to shuttle us to UGA while they did the repair... so we got what felt like a VIP ride and learned a bunch about the area before getting dropped off at the arches. By 9:00am, they called to tell us what needed repair and quoted a price which seemed very reasonable to us. Before 11:00am, we got the call that the car was ready and they would come pick us up at UGA whenever we were ready. We had another great ride back to the shop and got recommendations for restaurants and other places to visit in Athens. I cannot possibly give a more enthusiastic "CAR CRAFT IS FANTASTIC" review. For anyone who has a student with a car needing repair, our experience and the conversations we had with multiple workers seemed to prove that they truly care about the Athens/UGA community and want to take care of the students. We were in a position where we very easily could have been taken advantage of, and if anything, we feel like we got a bargain! I wish I could give a sixth star on this review. They seem nice but try to drain you of your money. They're a car shop in a college town scamming college students out of their money. They tried to tell us a small part for our car would be ~$900. When we disapproved the fix (to take it somewhere else), THAT's when they decided to charge us $160 for even looking at it, when we already knew what the problem was. My husband and I got a checkup for our Nissan Cube at Car Craft on Hawthorne Ave. on the very high recommendation from a well-trusted friend. We wanted to make sure the car was road worthy before a cross-country trip, and Car Craft mechanics did a very thorough inspection of the entire car before letting us know the good news: all we needed was an oil change! Wow. Fantastic service. I took my 2012 Tundra in for a water pump replacement. They not only repaired the vehicle quickly, they also charged me less than quoted because the repair was less complicated than expected. Joel was my advisor and he could not have been more helpful throughout the process. I looked around at other shops and decided on Car Craft based on reputation and price. From the very time I spoke to "Steve" the owner I got bad vibes. During our conversations back and forth he kept referring to me as "college kid" even though I am almost 40 years old. When I brought my wife in he kept referring to her as my "daughter" in the shop and on the phone since she is and does look younger than me but I corrected him many times saying that was my wife. Anyways back to more serious concerns...car was in the shop for 3 days and they wanted to keep it longer, at least 5 days to work on engine mount brackets. I had to argue with "Steve" that I needed my car back sooner than 5 days or whatever ridiculous time frame they gave me but it was at least 5 days. The shop had originally told me they only needed it 2 days but then changed their tune when "Steve" explained that they just had a bunch of cars sent to them from a high profile client and those cars need to be worked on first before they get to mine. Every time I talked to Steve the price kept going up. Final bill? Over $1300 for engine mounts ??!?! Don't bother with this place unless you like paying extra for no apparent reason, have your car sitting in their shop forever and having to deal with "Steve" and his obnoxious holier than thou attitude and condescending remarks. read more

They have always treated me as a friend or family member and not just a dollar sign coming in the door. Joel has always been straight forward with any repairs I may need. Recently I had two issues that Car Craft helped me with, I have a Land Rover Discovery that needed a new master cylinder and a new power steering pump replaced. The folks at Car Craft really helped me out and I appreciated their timely turn around on the work they performed. They even helped me get the vehicles to and from my home. What I especially liked was the honest pricing they gave me for work done, they could have raked me over the coals but came in within budget and actually beat their own quote. I've been using this garage for about 20 years now, but my latest experience with them has left me feeling a bit disconcerted. My wife's Kia Soul was making one of those really bad, expensive-sounding noises so I told her to take it in and get it checked out. Car Craft diagnosed a worn out right front wheel bearing and quoted $300+/- $25 to replace it. When my wife goes to pick it up, she is hit with a bill -$675 instead with no call for approval to go above and beyond the quoted amount. I do mechanical work myself (not automotive) and I know you can't always know in advance exactly what you are getting into until you tear an assembly down sometimes, but I do think a call for approval of the addition expenditure would have been in order here. read more

I just moved to Athens and almost immediately experienced trouble with my Audi A4. My best friend has a repair shop in my hometown and so I've been lucky to have a trusting and good relationship with my auto mechanic. I was nervous to bring the car anywhere else but I was stuck and needed a tow and quick fix in Athens. I called Five Star Automotive at the recommendation of a few friends and they recommended Joel at Car Craft for my German car. Joel and the rest of Car Craft staff were really communicative about my issues, gave me a courtesy ride to work, and towed my vehicle to their shop for a better price than any towing company. They kept my car overnight, fixed it by mid-afternoon the following day, and maintained the original quoted price which was really important to me as I'd just incurred a lot of moving expenses, etc. and was experiencing some unexpected financial hardships. Joel, his fellow workers, and the new owner were professional, patient, and kind when regarding all of my insistent questioning about the vehicle issues and time-frame for fixing it. I'm relieved to have found my new mechanic in Athens and I HIGHLY recommend them for foreign car repair! read more
