I don't think I've ever quite been so torne about a rating. Part of me really wants to like this coffee house. I mean, it's a "mom & pop" establishment. We need more non-chain coffee houses, for sure. It has quite a few good ratings, too! But there's just something very wrong here. Let me explain. I've been in five times over the past couple years. Each time my experience has been similar: I have dinner/lunch in a nearby restaurant with friends and come here for coffee/dessert. Sometimes the coffee is luke-warm. Sometimes it's hot. Sometimes it's old and stale, sometimes it's fresh. Sometimes the pasteries are fine (never really good), and sometimes they're absolutely terrible. I'm guessing they don't do much volume, so they microwave frozen desserts. Twice now the dessert has been served blistering hot in spots and still frozen in other spots. It seems they also wait too long before making a pot of fresh coffee. It's all just a crap shoot. So today, my friend and I went in after lunch. We ordered coffee and a "peanut butter and chocolate blondie" to share. We are served our coffee and gruffly told to "sit down" (am I a dog?); she will bring us our dessert. We sit down and start drinking and realize that our coffees are just luke-warm. As I get up to say something, she starts to microwave the dessert. I ask her not to. She says I have a choice of either frozen or microwaved. I ask for a refund, which she starts to give me. I start telling her that our coffee is luke-warm, expecting an appology and an offer to make up some fresh. Instead, she angrily says, "If you don't like it, go somewhere else." I returned to the table to ask my friend if we should just leave. On our way out, I stop by the register and ask if I can have the owner or manager's business card. She says that she is the owner! As I think about the incident today, I start to feel bad for her. Perhaps she's just had a really crummy day and is stressed out. After all, the economy is bad and it didn't look like anyone in the place was buying much, just using the free wifi. But, then I realize that regardless of her service and atittude today, our experience here has never been good. The quality is just very poor. I think I'll take the owner's advice and echo it to everyone else: if you don't like half frozen desserts and luke warm coffee served with an attitude, then go somewhere else. There are three Starbucks and a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf within a couple blocks. They may be chains, but at least there I consistently get hot coffee, top notch pasteries, and super friendly barristas. read more

A fine coffee house in such a busy area. It's spacious and comfortable inside with various styles of seating. Only bummer is if you need to plug in your laptop you'll probably have to sit at a high table which is not always comfortable (I feel bad stringing my power cord across a walkway). But they have free wi-fi so that's a bonus (be sure to buy something if you're using it - don't be a cheap wi-fi bumming bum). Today's background music selection reminds me of the 20s. I don't know if they always play this, but it's relaxing. Plenty of board games available for young and old. Appears they also have live music pretty often. Iced Almond Latte is tasty. I accompanied that with a Cranberry Walnut Salad which was very filling. They were quite generous with the feta, cranberries and walnuts. Dressing comes on the side. Prices are reasonable and fairly inexpensive for many of the dishes they offer. Well done, Butler's. I don't get to the AV too often, but you're at the top of my coffee and comfort list for the area. :) read more

I have to say that I make excellent caramel lattes. I make my own caramel. I went to a very popular place once - a place that starts with *S* - and ordered one, and I had to throw it away. Nasty. So, I went here about a week ago and ordered one and it was as good, if not better, than the ones I make at home. Beautiful, homey atmosphere makes it a joy to sit and relax and drink your coffee. They also have live music sometimes! Check out their website for dates and times. I'll be back. Great foam and great drink in general the staff were all so friendly and shout out to the blonde young girl on register she was working so hard and got the orders out quickly even though they were slammed! I love small independent coffee houses, this place takes the cake. I don't plan on stopping by here but the times I have there were random things going on such as an open mic night as well as improv night. I agree with everyone else on this page... Butler's is definitely a step above the rest when it comes to a coffee shop. I am all for going to an independently owned coffee shop rather than a mainstream chain... and this is JUST the place. It is sweetly decorated and has a family/hospitable feel to the place. Great, big chairs with plenty of places to sit. It is open and has plenty of window space. The coffee drinks and baked goods are of better quality and not as expensive as Starbucks or Panera.... ANNNND their Wi-Fi is much faster because there is not a very dense crowd here. Whenever I am in town, I will definitely be back at Butler's... and next time I will try to remember to mention Yelp!! read more

Worst coffee experience in the AV. This was my very first time going to this coffee shop, and it was very disappointing. No one greeted me when I came in, and they were not busy. I stood at the counter for over 5 minutes before anyone asked for my order or asked if I had been helped. The owners are very rude and confrontational. A group of us met up there for a book club meeting, and one of the women asked for no tomatoes on her food as she is allergic to them. When her food came it had tomatoes on it, when she asked that it be remade the owner s told her she should have said something and was very rude about taking the food back. Then when the food was brought back the owner made commented again that she should have said no tomatoes when she ordered. Then after all that she told us not to come back again! I cannot believe how rude the owners of this place were. I will not be going back or recommending that anyone go there. read more

Butlers is awesome, I go there with my laptop and enjoy the free wifi, cool music, and great atmosphere. I only drink black coffee and there's is pretty awesome. Its fun to just sit there write my blog and watch people play board games. Very relaxing They also have live music and other events and shows. This is the past cafe in palmdale for sure. Finally! An independent coffee house near me! Wooo! As much as I love white chocolate lattes from Coffee Bean, I would rather drop the calories and drink delicious fresh brewed black coffee, and Butler's has it! They roast their own coffee beans - their house blend has replaced the Kona blend I had been buying from the grocery store. I buy it by the pound and make it at home. The beans smell soooo good! They also make a DELICIOUS mocha with their own roasted espresso beans. Please consider dropping your Starbuck's habit and supporting a local business, it's worth it! I would have rated them 5 stars, but their service is a little.... awkward. Don't get me wrong, everyone is always nice, but I guess the personalities aren't as social as they could be. Of course, they just opened up the store and maybe once they get in the grove, it will feel a little different. Then I would definitely give 'em 5 stars. If you live in the miserable AV, as I currently do, you MUST MUST MUST come here for coffee. We have so few options out here in terms of family-owned, non-chain, quality restaurants and I'd much rather give my money to a shop like this than to a Starbucks or Coffee Bean. Their coffee is delicious and I LOVE their vanilla latte. I also enjoyed the bagel breakfast sandwich and the cinnamon crunch muffin was to die for! The only downside is that they don't open until 9 am on Saturday...which is a bit late for me. read more

I've only ever had good experiences with Butler's. I only been here maybe five times at most, over the span of 3 or 4 years. They have delicious coffee, with a fair amount of customization choices. The staff has always been very friendly to me. The atmosphere is interesting, and generally calm (except for evenings with live stage acts of course). In the mornings, Butler's Coffee would make a relatively nice place to read or work on a laptop in solitude. Be warned however, during Open Mic Nights and other events, this place can easily become a cramped, bustling infestation of noisy humans. The one strange thing is that they aren't open on Sundays. It is not often that I come across a coffee shop that isn't open on Sundays. They would get a lot more business from me if they were, and I know there is no shortage of AV workers willing to put in Sunday hours to help to pay the bills, but whatever. Otherwise, it's a great shop, and I'm not going to dock a star for their harmless choice to stay closed one day of the week. The beverages are good. The food is good. The staff is cool. It's not just the coffee and excellent mango smoothies (really!) that bring me back to Bulter's Coffee time and again, it's also their amazing commitment to support local culture. They host live music most weekends and some weeknights.There's a comedy night, an open mic and a quarterly art contest. Many times there are groups of writers, knitters, etc meeting at a long table. Coffe is great but I have to share some of my favorite food items that people may not be trying: 1. Spicy Roastbeef sandwich - Probably the best sandwich I have ever had anywhere! I always get it with pepper jack cheese. Definitely a must try. 2. Chicken Quesadilla - The quesadilla itself is good, but the sauce provided for it makes all the difference and puts it over the top! 3. Any salad - they make great salads here with large portions. Even the side salad has a great assortment of greens and veggies. They will allow you to modify just about anything, so don't be afraid to ask. And again, they have great coffee as well (white chocolate is my favorite). read more

I don't hate this place. I used to come to Butler's with a writing group and their coffees are very tasty. My problem is -if you want to stay awhile to work on a project - they play music LOUDLY and if you ask them to turn it down they get pissy. Also -when it is March and RAINING do you think we need the AC on? Maybe not. Again, I think this is the passive aggressive way of many coffee shops to entice people to buy the coffee but DON'T under ANY circumstances linger. read more

The owners are welcoming to local bands so you never know if you might get some free entertainment if you're there.
