Stayed here recently. Fairly standard Motel. Some pluses:…read more 1. spacious rooms 2. clean 3. 50+ channels on the TV 4. fridge and microwave. 5. CVS, Albertson's, McD's, service station w/ convience store, Bowling alley/cafe/casino across the street. The casino/cafe is open 24hrs. I didn't get to go in. Not so plus: 1. no hang tag to tell the maid you didn't want service 2. no valet (the folding thingy). There was space under the hanger rack 3. No coffee pot in room. The website says you have to ask for it. 4. the website says there are irons and hair dryers in the rooms. there wasn't in mine. 5. the website lists "laundry room" as a service. It is not for guests to use. 6. No soda machine, no ice machine. There is a a convience store directly accros the street, but I didn't try it. I did walk to the CVS and Albertson's accross the street. 7. The grocery stores and CVS do not sell hard liquor. 8. No chain on the door. There were screw holes where one used to be... Not good or bad: The back of the door (the inside) was damaged. It didn't ruin my stay, but it does let me know that the owners are behind to making repairs. Example the missing chain, too, and the constantly running toilet. I didn't make that a negative because it wasn't loud. It's more a problem for them, I imagine it's running up their water bill. This is old fashioned key entry folks. No fancy electronic keys here! The website says they have continental breakfast from 7 to 10 am. I didn't get to try it. Someone else will have to Yelp about it. The hot and cold water screwed on and off the opposite from what I'm used to on the sink. Not a negative per se, just frustrating. Maybe that's how they do it in Montana. The website says free wi-fi, but my Kindle couldn't find a connection. It wasn't crucial, so I didn't go ask at the office.

During our two hour ride with Jody and Keith, our running joke was to say things like, "Views too…read moremajestic: one star," or "Guide likes to make jokes: one star." This was a really fantastic experience that I think may become a tradition with my family. Jody, Keith, and all the horses (even Spike, who was kind of a pill) were a real pleasure to interact with during our visit. The ride itself was a delight. Sure, I was sore afterward, but that's to be expected. Consider going to any of Montana's hot springs to recover afterward. If you're visiting in the summer, I do suggest scheduling a ride in the morning, as it's never too hot at 9AM.

We ended up coming across this place on Expedia as we were frantically trying to find a place to stay. We are so blessed that this happened because this place is a true gem. The most beautiful and peaceful spot I have ever experienced. We are already planning another trip out to look at some more properties in the Southern areas of Montana but will 100% be staying here and making the extra drive down South everyday just to be able to spend more time at Sugar Loaf. We stopped in to Butte on our cross country drive and visited the mining museum after lunch in…read moretown. They offer military and other discounts on their entrance fee The gift shop area includes information on local, current mining operations as well as merch. This is an outdoor museum so dress for the weather. If you want to take the under ground tour be sure you are wearing closed toed shoes. (Crocs not included, I don't know why) They also have above ground tours. Part of the property is set up like a western town. Something that would grow up around a mine. Post office, apothecary, carpenter, blacksmith, etc, etc. All these buildings are set up with window displays but most are not open to the public. You just peer thru the windows. There is a memorial garden to miners. A mine yard with pieces of heavy equipment. The motorized lift, miners locker room, light room, information and equipment used in dry and wet boring, 3D representations of mines and more with information posted on the displays. You can walk up into the mine head if you are so inclined to see how the ore chutes operated. We spent about two hours here without realizing it. Very interesting museum. Staff are very personable, answered questions and suggested reading material for more on the subject. Very good, family friendly stop.

The walls are painted cinder block and the rest is it is quite dated. My biggest complaint though is the walls are super thin. Our neighbor was watching TV loudly and despite calls from the front desk, it wasn't clear if it was our neighbor to the left, right or below. Then in the morning, we could hear musicians at the upcoming Irish festival practicing through the bathroom ceiling. That part was actually cooler than the TV noise but still evidence of the lack of insulation.
