Food: what a treat to have a local coffee shop that makes pastries right where you can watch. I had a butter bread which is the ends of the croissants. It was so tasty and flaky. I loved it. I had Americano to go with it. They made it perfectly the way I like it. It definitely tastes like coffee and the right temperature. Staff: everyone in that was so pleasant. You're greeted right away and they're very happy to explain to you all the different pastries and their coffees. Ambiance: The decor is a nice nice European coffee shop has tile wood, along with little cafe tables and chairs. I like the location. It's right off the freeway if you're coming from somewhere else. I have been here once or twice before. One of them was for Yelp event. I had tried their love knot pastry, which was amazing and it still is. This time I came with my husband to have a cup of coffee in a local coffee shop. I was not impressed by their coffee. I had iced cappuccino and he had a warm latte both drinks. It felt like it was pure milk. They have/make their own syrup which we wanted and picked honey. There was no honey flavor whatsoever. We could not even taste the coffee flavor. We had to pay extra $1 I think for the flavor which wasn't even there. when I went to ask to remake a drink. They just wanted to add extra honey, which was not the only problem. They didn't really want to remake the drink It was during the heat wave and it was unbearable to sit inside a coffee shop so we decided to sit outside. We also had their love knot pastry, which was really good I think service was just OK. They didn't seem they wanted to remake the drink. Even when the drink was remade, it was still OK. First time here and I was pleasantly surprised how good the croissant was to go. It seemed like a traditional croissant very flaky very airy with a great flavor. It was a nice little place and the customer service seemed very nice and inviting. I was in a rush to get something to go today so I didn't get much time to evaluate it for this review, but my early impressions are that this is a nice place to grab a sweet French pastry. We stopped by Butter & Fold on a Saturday morning and found it pretty empty. The interior had a sleek, modern vibe with both counter and table seating. I chose a Maple Latte and Strawberry Goat Cheese Danish. My latte was nice but the maple element was extremely subtle. I really liked the flavor combination of the Strawberry Goat Cheese Danish. Just stopped in for a quick bite, but on a whim decided to try the vanilla pear lime (?) seasonal soda that was tangy with just a whisper of sweetness. Perfect if you don't like a soda that's too syrupy! I got a plum puff which was a bit crunchy, the fruit was yummy but the juice was a bit burnt onto the sides. service was sweet & friendly. they explained the menu with patience. we ordered an iced americano and iced late with vanilla syrup. they also have an abundance of unique syrups that i can't wait to try. the americano was a bold roast and not too acidic which was pleasant. as for the pastries, i do not recall the names however the one pictured on the top right was my favorite. it was flaky and buttery while the bottom one was light & airy with lemon custard. it was also nice to see the pastry chef making them in house while we ordered. we chose to dine in and enjoy our treats. it did have that European vibe & it was a nice way to enjoy a fall weekend. will be back read more

It is so cute in here, but I'm unsure if it justifies the cost. For almost $9 with tip, I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and maple syrup as a sweetener, and the drink was only 12oz. I do really like that they have a pretty extensive list of sweeteners and that they have maple syrup since that's my favorite and not always available. The matcha quality was good, and the baristas working were really nice, but I probably wouldn't come back alone just due to the price. I came here this morning and had an extremely good almond pastry. It was surprisingly moist, buttery, and had the most delicious texture and flavor. It was noteworthy: I've had some of the highest rated croissants and pastries in San Francisco and this one was above most of them. Also got an oat mocha which was extremely well made. They take care to whisk in the chocolate, and it's not too sweet (like a mocha where they just add chocolate syrup or hot chocolate). I'm lucky I actually found this coffee shop through a Yelp event/experience awhile back and this spot has stayed on my mind. I am not a huge coffee drinker but sometimes it does hit the spot. Came in this morning for a little pastry and coffee after the gym to keep my momentum up for the day. After a hard workout I was crashing a little and needed some coffee. I grabbed their iced pumpkin pie latte and a vanilla latte for a friend. Their coffee here is subtle and flavors aren't overdone. I am not a huge coffee drinker or expert but it always hits the spot here for me. What I truly love even more than their coffee if I am being honest is their baked good and pastries. Now these delicious bites I can get behind and would regularly come in for more often if I just lived a little closer. Their pastries here are so buttery and clearly baked with love. I've been obsessed with every bite I've ever gotten from here. This AM I tried a plum and cheese danish and oh Lordy it was a 10/10. You can't go wrong with any of their fresh baked goods here. The staff and service are always stellar! Always welcoming and just a feel good friendly vibe. Aside from the tasty bites I'll say everyone being so lovely here is what will also keep me coming back. I appreciate the service and the staff that make this place such a feel good vibe. Service is also a definite A+. My only slight critique is I find the prices to be a tad bit high. Two small iced lattes and a pasty $20. $6.50 per drink feels a little steep give the size of the cup but I understand they are a small business competing with those big name brands nearby. While I don't think my wallet will allow me to come all of the time, I recognize I'd rather put my money here then somewhere else as the goods are quality and the staff are absolutely deserving. The coffee here is really good!! However, I wouldn't suggest it as a study spot. The chairs are uncomfortable, there aren't any plugs, and it can get a bit warm inside. But for a casual hangout or a quick coffee run, this place is a solid choice. Overall, the coffee itself is excellent and well worth trying. read more

If "frustration" was a bakery it would be called Butter & Fold. The best thing about this bakery was the person who designed it because it is pretty inside. Unfortunately for us, everything else that would warrant a business to be a bakery/cafe was so incredibly bad. Stepping into the shop, we were greeted with the smell of browned butter, a view of the display case, and kitchen in the background, as well as a few tables, which on this beautiful weekday morning had quite a few people dining in - good sign right? So we were excited. We were not greeted by the girl at the register however, after she helped the guy in front of us, she just stared at us like we were aliens and waiting for us to talk. I was with my little niece and little sister. So we greeted her and my sister asked her what two pastries were in the case. NOTHING was labeled, except for a sign that they use "organic" "grass fed" butter. Surprisingly she was annoyed! The employee just said the names of it and then stopped, no explanation or anything. So I asked her if she would be so kind to explain what everything was and she started firing off all the items as fast as she could, as if it was her only breath to do it in lol but the benefit with that was, she dropped her annoyed attitude so that was nice, she was just 'whatevers' after that ... perhaps today was not her day, we all have them so I get it. Or perhaps she has to do that with everyone because there are no labels, so yea that would be annoying. We ordered three pastries to share, I got the plain croissant and a latte. All the pastries were severely over baked and tasted burnt. The croissants were not laminated well at all either. The latte was not only extremely bitter but also sour. I just don't understand how bad it is given the good reviews and people dining in. No matter how you try to market it, burnt is still burnt. Perhaps this was a bad day? Or do people just go along with their pretentiousness to be 'accepted' since they already spent their money? I will never know, you can be the judge of it if you want to waste your money here. One of my favorite cafes in Ventura and one of my go-tos for espresso sodas. Cozy little cafe, and they always make delicious pastries. The love knot is a delicious combination of croissant with sugar. It's so moist, and I could just sit there and eat these. Their espresso and honey soda is my favorite, but I recently tried their espresso and vanilla soda - delish as well! They definitely do a great job at making them. I have been underwhelmed with the options with pastries here. The first time, I ordered a chocolate au pan, and it was very small, almost burnt, and felt very expensive for what I was getting. The second time I went, I felt the same way. I tried a third time after seeing a post for a lovely chocolate cake that was being offered for Valentine's. I was again surprised that what was in front of me did not feel like a representation of what I saw online. Also, I had to ask for the sauce, again from the picture I had seen. When I asked the barista, she seemed disinterested in what I was hoping was going to be a culinary experience given that these pastries are baked in house by a pastry chef. The location is beautifully decorated, but it was excessively loud with only about 3 people there. The music could have been turned done to a more pleasant level. My family and I were looking for a breakfast spot and unfortunately due to the power outages on Christmas Eve we ended up at this place for a quick coffee run. As soon as I walked into this coffee shop I ended up slipping and falling due to the rainy weather and very slippery floors. I was so embarrassed because I was the only person walking in and everyone was looking at me. Luckily a very kind customer came and she helped me up. Asking if I was ok. I wasn't. That fall hurt very bad because I kind of ended up in a splits but landing on my right knee, but I was so embarrassed that I kindly thanked her and went on to the cashier. I was very appalled that not one of the employees came by to check in on me. The cashier just asked if I was ok but nothing else. I did tell her that they should have a mat and maybe a wet floor sign? As the floors were very wet from the rain. She very nonchalantly said oh yeah maybe. I did notice someone quickly came to place a cation wet floor sign but failed to ask me if there was anything I needed as they passed me up. Idk I have about 20 years of experience in retail and I know that if anyone ever fell in my store an incident report is mandatory and offering help is a nonnegotiable, but maybe local restaurant businesses are different? Anyway besides that very poor customer service experience the coffee was not great. I ordered one of their seasonal offerings which had zero flavor. My fiancé ordered a hot chocolate which also had zero flavor idk how you can possibly mess up a hot chocolate. I am not sure if this was just our experience but I did not enjoy any of it. One would come here to sip and savor their coffee and enjoy the charming ambience, not to pick up coffee on the go. It truly does give European patisserie cafe vibes. The young-ish staff (I've been 2x) are very warm and friendly. The prices are on the higher side, (most pastries start at $6-7) but you are able to enjoy coffee served in ceramic cups and dishes. The pastries do tend to look darker (review mentioned some looked burned) but I think it's to ensure they are fully baked to crispy finish. I will say both the coffee, I got a small mocha, and the pastry tend to be less sweet. It's suited more for adult palette, and the coffee was more subtle tasting, which is still pleasant. I enjoyed my pastry, but didn't taste heavy butter taste. The ingredients are all organic and high quality so the pricing reflects this. So for me this is the opposite of Starbucks To-go coffee culture and heavily sweetened drinks. Butter & Fold does have that similar European vibe of Ficelle. I think I may prefer Ficelle's pastries and their beautiful location off Mills. But Butter & Fold is open longer and has a smaller, cozy atmosphere to enjoy. read more
