What an amazing place! My friend and I visited here because we heard that they had fresh ground flours of all types. My friend makes her own bread and she wanted to try some different types of flours. I ordered buckwheat and Sonora flour. I also bought 2 loaves of bread- a Honey Wheat Pan Bread and a Rosemary loaf. Both had a perfect crumb and were delicious! In their refrigerated cases were raviolis, pot pies and other premade items. I bought the lemon ravioli and it was light and so flavorful! I bought some of their sourdough crackers and I can't go back to boxed crackers again. Their bakery had lots of yummy looking croissants and specialty coffee drinks. I will definitely be back to try some of their produce and other items I wasn't able to try this last visit. I have a feeling I will be visiting a couple times a month! read more

I adore this place. My husband and I come whenever we can. Amazing that they grow and mill their own grain and then offer so many varieties of breads, pastas, pastries, prepared foods, etc. if I lived nearby, I would use this place as my regular supermarket, since they also carry fresh veggies and fruits and frozen/refrigerated and dry goods. All fresh. However. If you go here, MAKE SURE to check your bag before you leave. Three times, they have charged us for loaves of bread that didn't make it into the bag. Today, they forgot a sandwich and a loaf of bread and annoyingly, when I told them about the missing items, they sliced the bread before putting it in the bag. I didn't realize until way later in the day. I did not ask for that and I don't like the bread sliced there -- it goes bad way quicker. So, go there, love it, spend a lot (you will) and it's totally worth it. But I sure wish they had a better mechanism for filling orders correctly. read more

First time for me! What a delight! Customer service was excellent. Croissants were delicious, banana bread is also one not to pass up. Another customer told me the chicken pot pies are delicious as well as their home made pies. I also saw they sell Fillmore honey. Need to try that out. Also very warm atmosphere. I liked it a lot. The caramel latte was excellent. It was perfect and the taste was smooth and not bitter like other coffee places. Excellent service. The staff are super friendly. Roan Mills is an absolute GEM! I found them a few years ago and make sure I stop in when I'm in the area (or if I'm craving it, I'll drive all the way there just to get some!). They are skilled bakers and have mastered their craft. I love their breads and pastries - you can tell the difference with their fresh milled grains. I've tried just about everything (that does not have cheese) and my go to is always their croissant, cookies, sourdough and focaccia. The SF sourdough is so good, excellent textures and flavor, and perfectly baked each time. The seasonal tiny strawberries are always perfect as well. The only thing that I am not a fan of is the pie fillings, they are extremely sweet. Very friendly employees and clean and organized store. Ample street parking. read more

How in the world has this fantastic bakery been here for over ten years and I'm just now finding out about it? Well never mind. The important thing now is to visit this place as often as possible. Make up for lost time. Because there are so many things to try. Not only does this place have an impressively broad selection of baked goods. It also offers up some exquisitely beautiful produce. And then there's the cold case with the big Chicken Pot Pies and the Beef Pot Pies and probably some other kind of Pot Pies I haven't even heard of before because this place brings it! Same with sandwiches. You know how you like those sandwiches on a baguette? Well they've got them here. Quick lunch option. Over in the other cold case they've got French Butter. Probably would've been better if I didn't see that. Most of the time French Butter is like Kryptonite to me. I lose all my power over my wallet. I'm compelled to turn over all my cash for butter. But not this day. This day I was strong. I did not succumb to the buttery temptation. This visit I left with a cappuccino and a couple packages of cookies. Both excellent! Roan Mills is a family owned and operated farm, mill, and bakery in old downtown Fillmore, CA that uses regenerative and certified organic farming practices that are sustainable for the environment. Their freshly milled flours are used for their breads and baked goods sold at the bakery and at local Farmers Markets. For such a small brick and mortar, they have a little bit of everything; breads, pastries, pies, muffins, cookies, sandwiches, spreads, dips, soups, produce, whole and milled grains, gifts, and a gourmet drink selection. They also had bread and their Mock Boursin out for sampling, which were really good. Everything is made fresh onsite and some of their additional gift items are sourced from local vendors. I was in Filmore for work for a day and Im happy that I stumbled upon this place-it's coffee shop meets bakery meets Sunday farmers market!! The pastries were delicious and I was so excited to find some locally milled flour for my sourdough. The only thing that I didn't love was the matcha, it tasted okay but not super high quality. I am a bit of a matcha enthusiast so it may have just been me. The overall vibe and locally made goods made up for that though. I will most definitely return next time im in town :) read more

My family has been visiting the bakery for almost two years now. So many delicious treats including the coffee drinks, fresh local produce and unique snacks. It's truly a gem and we are lucky to have them in our little town of Fillmore. The reason I knocked off a star is because of customer service. I've worked in retail/customer service in both sales and as a manager. I honestly would never act as the associates do there. I've been there over 20 times hoping it was a fluke but it happens very consistently. You're never greeted when you enter, the associates seem absolutely miserable and act like they can't even give you the time of day. You'd think they'd be happier working in a place that smells so amazing, hah. They don't talk to you at all once at the register and if you ask a question it's like pulling teeth. I just wish that aspect could improve because it really takes away the charm from our small town bakery. I will note though, Chris is amazing and has always been wonderful. read more

have stopped by this bakery every time we are in town! the staff is always so friendly and helpful, they are so willing to explain what their items are and are willing to make sure your drink is exactly what you wanted. the coffee's are delicious and super unique, we have tried a bunch of their different combinations and have loved everyone. just note that they are not as sweet as you think they will be, which personally I enjoyed. their pastries are so fresh and flavorful and their sourdough bread is well priced and great quality, you can tell the freshness of their flour. we always enjoy browsing the veggie and pre made options as well and look forward to trying those in the future. such a quaint, mom and pop establishment that makes you feel like you are on a farm! read more

Great coffee, and egg salad, no place to sit that I saw. It reminds me of an upscale farmers market in a good way. Togo I also got the veggie quiche and Sheppards pie, choc covered cherries and short ribs ragu, as well as fresh chives, mint and spinach, and their granola. All of it was delicious farmed fresh and had the homemade quality that you are paying for. I got an iced vanilla oatmilk latte and it was smooth and delicious. This is such a great bakery. Lots of fresh breads with limited ingredients (not all those additives) and pastries available. We stopped in for some coffee and grabbed a loaf of bread. The coffee was pretty good. The bread is excellent! The shop is do cute with lots of goodies. The one thing I would avoid is the egg salad sandwiches in the refrigerator. I grabbed one of those it was made on their San Francisco sourdough bread, which I absolutely love. However the sandwich from the refrigerator was soggy from the egg salad, which was a bummer because the egg salad was delicious, but the soggy bread ruined the sandwich. My husband had the same thing and his bread was also very soggy. read more

Don't even ask me how I ended up here earlier today. I had this place saved in my bookmarks for a while now but never felt like driving here just to see it. I saved it cause I read that they sell organic flour, freshly milled grains etc... since I'm a baker of sourdough breads and pastries I shop from places that sell good flour and ingredients. This looked like one of those places. So earlier today my husband and I decided to take the kids to the Fillmore & Western Railway Co without realizing it's closed on The Weekends. So when I reached places nearby to get coffee this popped up in my bookmarks. So we walked in. A very spacious store selling specialty items, freshly baked breads and pastries and some delicious coffee. The cold brew I got was amazing. The chocolate cake was good as well. I bought some Rancho Gordo beans, jam, honey and flour. I have never seen any place sell this brand of beans anywhere but in Napa valley. So that was a great find. Overall this store is a true gem for the locals. To buy fresh produce, fresh bread and so much more. The coffee is also wonderful. The ambiance is great, the customer service not so great. read more

Wheat grown and milled by the bakery, then evolves into tasty sourdough loaves! The San Francisco is my favorite plain sourdough, but if you get a chance to score a cranberry walnut loaf - that's a tasty treat. I can't say I'd recommend the rye, but everything else is worth a try! Pastries and sandwiches are offered - varieties change quite a bit. Lots of other great local wares such as honey and vegetables available seasonally. Everyone working the front seem friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I visited this bakery last week because I wanted to get some freshly milled grain (of which they have many different varieties). They had samples of their focaccia bread which was absolutely incredible and we ended up purchasing. We also got a cold brew and americano--the coffee is outstanding. The staff was very helpful and recommended the almond loaf for me and my husband had the apple hand pie. They were both so delicious! I saw some of the reviews on customer service. This bakery is more than a bakery: it is an experience. The food is the main character but the range of culinary delights is amazing! The hand pies are my favorite: bbq pork and Cuban specifically. Recently tried the crab/shrimp ravioli and will never buy any other. They also have local organic vegetables, small batch coffees and a surprise at every turn, making the ambiance of the bakery like an open air market. I discovered this place yesterday while driving by so today I decided to stop in and check it out. First off the store is super cute! I love the vibes in there. All the bakery items looked so good I didn't even know which one to grab because I wanted to try it all honestly. I decided to grab a ham and cheese croissant and a danish. Honestly it is the best croissant and danish I have ever had. The crispness of the bread is so good and stays crispy even when I have left it out for a couple of hours. The danish was probably my favorite though. I also grabbed a lavender latte and the coffee is so good. I kinda wished they had an option for a larger size though but it's ok. This place has the most amazing baked goods! But that is not why I am giving them 5 stars. 2 years ago my sister passed suddenly. I was devastated. Driving is sort of therapeutic for me. So I had gotten into my car and was just driving with no aim. I somehow ended up here. The staff was so pleasant in general. But this one young man must have notice me wandering the shop kind of aimlessly with my bloodshot eyes and broken spirit. He brought me a cup of coffee ajd said "here, you need this". That one kind gesture was strength for me that day. I live fairly far away from there so I do not go often, but whenever I can, I patronize them. You should too. Especially in today's world where "healthy" supermarket breads are being recalled for having pesticides! Excellent pastries, cute vibe and good selection. The only issue is that they are so expensive! $6 for a pastry is a lot, but I know food prices have gone up. However, their loaves of bread are reasonable at $8-$10. We loved their chocolate croissant, dulce de leche croissant, olive&onion focaccia and their morning buns. Good parking, helpful staff but no seating. We haven't tried the coffee and we were intrigued by the quiches. I wish those were in slices so we could try them before buying a whole pie! read more

Everything we got was delicious! The almond croissant was probably the best I've ever had. It was flakey and crispy in all the right places and overflowing with almond paste. I couldn't put it down! Also got a mocha, which was perfectly balanced to taste the coffee and chocolate, not overly sweet either which I prefer. Grabbed a loaf of kalamata bread to take home and enjoy with dinner. Having grown up in two family bakeries, artisan bread, pastries, pies, and huge cookies have always been part of my life. Was in the area visiting family and they suggested Roan Mills. "They grow their own grains and mill their own flour, use organic products, have a variety of breads, pastries, and make a great caprese sandwich," one family member told me. I had to see for myself. We have been wanting to come here for ages. First off, it's located in the core of the charming historical old town of Fillmore. Took me happily back into time. Roan Mills is a large shop with fresh produce a full coffee bar, freshly baked breads and lots of sweet treats (difficult choice - which ones to get, just decided to come back to try more at a later date). What makes this place unique is they grow and mill their own flour. Many of these flours are offered for sale. Also, they made their own pastas and raviolis, YUM.
