(0 stars) -- UNPROFESSIONAL, DISHONEST, AND EXPENSIVE I had a root canal done here in 2021 that ultimately failed, leading to an extraction. During the procedure, I was under nitrous but fully aware -- and watched the dentist and assistant flirt, laugh, and act completely distracted while I lay there with my mouth propped open. It was humiliating and deeply unprofessional. I was originally told the same dentist would handle the retreatment for free, but I had since moved to Dallas and wasn't able to return right away. When I called a couple months later to schedule it, I was told the dentist no longer worked there -- and they were no longer willing to honor what they promised. Instead, they referred me to an out-of-network endodontist, even though I specifically requested someone within my insurance. It became clear over time that this office was more focused on upselling than ethical care. I was also told I had multiple "cavities" that my new dentist later confirmed were just minor stains -- totally harmless and didn't require treatment. This place will charge you for anything they think they can, show no concern if you can't afford it, and treat your care like an afterthought. I wouldn't recommend this practice to anyone. read more

I do NOT recommend anyone ever use Buttercup Dental unless you like being sold basic treatments you don't need, because dentist Steven Stancey won't deal with the glaring problem straight away. Either he is a harsh businessman selling generic unneeded procedures before dealing with clearly obvious problems, or he is a narcissistic con man. Most likely it's both, because he's not stupid and he can talk in circles with ease, without being honest. As it is, he will not listen to clients and their known dental history (after speaking to you for about five minutes) and he dismisses everything you tell him. He will also not admit to overlooking physically felt, and visually seen problems just so he can sell you more basic procedures in the long run. Instead he will tell you that what you're experiencing (and have been notified about by other dentists) is something else entirely. I've been to many dentists across the country (aka military and civilian), and his business practice is the absolute epitome of horrible. Which says it all, because I have experienced bad dentists plenty of times. Do Not use Buttercup Dental while he still works there, as you Do NOT know how many of the other dentists are just like him there. read more

I am been through quite a few dentists through the years but none like Buttercup Dental. I was having an issue with a crown and my ex dentist recommended an implant. Not much discussion around it other than scheduling and prices. Knowing Dr. Park socially, I scheduled an appointment and came in. The office is clean and well staffed. My whole family has been going to Buttercup Dental every 6 months for over 10 years until COVID. I finally felt comfortable going back to the dentist post COVID and I was treated so disrespectfully. I scheduled my appointment 2 months in advance. When I arrived I waited 30 minutes to be taken back. They did my X-rays and the dentist came in. I waited for the hygienist and an hour after my appointment she came in. She told me before ever looking in my mouth that I would have to come back for a cleaning. I told her my appointment was for a cleaning and she said we ran out of time and she had to go to her next person. I told her the next person should wait and my cleaning needed to happen as I had been there an hour. She then looked at my mouth and said oh this is going to be a longer cleaning after the dentist said my teeth were in great shape. I told her I was not coming back. I got up and went to the front desk. I told them they didn't do my cleaning and the first person I talked to didn't know why. The officer manager offered her apologies and a new appointment time which was just not acceptable. I had taken off work and had been there an hour. She said sometimes cleanings just take longer. This was not obviously not the reason I needed to come back. They clearly mismanaged their schedule. They had worked a patient in and I heard the front desk say they had one dentist there. When I started my search for a good dentist in Texas, I found Buttercup was convenient to my home. Most reviewers of dental offices seem to complain about the office staff. The ladies at this location were friendly and helpful until the last day. The dentist was knowledgable and discussed with me what options I could take. The offices were clean and well laid out. There was never a wait longer than 10 minutes. So why only a 2 rating? After going here for 6 months, I tried to make another appointment and was turned down. The office staff basically told me they were no longer taking my insurance so they were dropping me as a patient. I explained that I would pay for their services and file my own insurance forms. Nope, they still said no. They would have received a 4 star rating. But I don't take rejection well so down you go to 2 stars. read more

I am choosing my words carefully because I'm angry. I hope I will be fair. I am a new patient to BD, but I've had dental work before. I am neither the most sensitive nor the least sensitive patient. The dentist did not waste much time on small-talk, which was OK. He did chat a bit with a trainee in the room, but mostly about a hobby, not about the procedures he was performing. He barely spoke to me or his dental assistant. He did not warn me about the injection or any other part of the procedure. While I've had procedures before, I still like to know what's about to happen and where we are in the process. There was none of that. I felt more like a car at a mechanic than a patient receiving a procedure. It was obvious when I was uncomfortable - like when my mouth tissue was being squashed or a piece of equipment was uncomfortable -- but these signals went unnoticed. If the assistant noticed them, I suppose she did not feel able to speak up. The dentist was clearly on a mission to finish this work and get on to something else. He told me that all went well and then flew out of the room. The list of patient-care techniques that were not observed is too long to list here. I rose from the chair shaky and had to lean against the wall (not my usual response to dental work). When I went to the check-out station, I quietly asked the receptionist if there were gentler dentists than the one I'd seen. Here's the kicker: She visibly bridled and told me that that dentist was VERY gentle. She did not recommend any other dentists at their practice. Sensing my discomfort, she asked if I needed a drink of water or needed to sit down. When I murmured, 'No,' she slid my bill under my hand and got my payment. There was no discussion of booking a next cleaning. I do not think she even thanked me for coming in. I have had several dentists in my life, from high-end latest-equipment places to sole-practice, not-even-a-dental-hygienist-on-staff places. I've even had dental work done in the UK on the NHS (and NOBODY brags about that level of care). In terms of patient care and basic customer service, this was bad. Maybe the worst I've ever had. I do not question that the dental work was done competently - even excellently. Thus the 2 stars. The -3 stars are about the other factors that make a medical/dental practice excellent. Update: I am posting this review AFTER first sharing it with Buttercup Dental. I exchanged emails with the dentist, and revised my review accordingly. I do hope that this experience was an isolated incident. (The dentist assured me that he never received complaints like mine. Perhaps that is true.) read more

I have EXCELLENT dental insurance. I was assured Buttercup Dental was in- network and was given an estimated cost which I paid in full. Months later I received a bill for $650. When I called to confirm my bill had already been paid in full, I was told the amount paid was only an estimated amount. My insurance did not cover the remaining amount as they are not an in-network provider. Needless to say, this was a costly lesson learned. read more

The office is high-tech and Dr. Stancy is everything I expected in a dentist and more. He is frank, to-the-point, honest, concerned about my anxiety levels while operating, and quick and thorough with his work. He also calls the next day to checkup on me after a procedure and personally apologized for a nightmare scheduling issue that resulted in me leaving the office sedated without my wisdom teeth pulled. Be wary of the front office with scheduling and billing. I have had issues with discrepancies in these areas multiple times. I have been going to Buttercup for over a year for cleanings, and finally had some old fillings replaced yesterday (including a crown) by Dr. Stancey. I'm not saying I enjoyed all the drilling and grinding (yes, I said grinding, you dirty-minded peeps), but after a less-than-charming experience at another dental practice in Austin, I can't recommend them enough. Their location is relatively new and they have plenty of private treatment rooms and sophisticated equipment (I did forget to smile when Dr Stancey took pictures of my molar). Yesterday I visited Buttercup Dental in Cedar Park for my new patient appointment. Before yesterday I have never been impressed by any dental office, come on its the Dentist. ButterCup Dental on the other hand is very impressive on numerous levels! 1. They have a small play room for children if needed. 2. They have a Keurig Coffee maker with all kinds of flavor choices, just incase you'd like to stain those teeth a bit before getting them cleaned. 3. The Lobby is very nice and comfortable, playing some awesome music (not elevator music) 4. The Dental Chairs are MASSAGE Chairs, WOW!!! 5. My Dental Hygienist KAYE made my experience at their office over the top. She was the most thorough hygienist i have ever had. She took extra time to study my xrays, commenting on areas of concern as well complimenting other teeth/gums. She was also concerned with my comfort & sensitivity levels, more than I was. I even told her once i don't mind if it hurts I just want clean teeth. 6. As if all that wasnt enough! THEY HAVE DIRECT TV IN EACH ROOM!!!!! The TV hangs over you so you can watch TV the whole time and not have to be bored while your teeth are being cleaned. Its a great distraction as well. This office makes me want to come back every 6 months to clean my teeth. All these amenities will be a huge influence in eliminating my reluctance to go to the dentist. read more

I would like to say how glad I was for choosing Buttercup Dental. After looking at the reviews of the dental office near me Buttercup seemed to be my choice. I had broken a tooth and was able to get to the office the same day. Xray's were taking and from the Xrays I was told the rest of the tooth will need to come out. After hearing the options I had I went with an implant. I would need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Parks who performed this procedure. Upon meeting Dr. Parks he looked at the Xray and then the tooth. He suggested that he might be able to work with what was left of the tooth. Sure enough he built a tooth and it looks great. I found this office a few years ago when I needed a broken wisdom tooth taken out during a lunch break. Ever since then, we've made them our family dental office because they are THAT amazing here. Both my husband and I had bad experiences with dentists when we were younger, which caused us to avoid them like the plague. This office changed that for the both of us. Seriously, they are that good. The front office staff is amazing and friendly. They will always tell you upfront how much something is before they do it, don't jump straight to big procedures if they think there may be another way to fix the problem, and follow up with you after each one. The hygienists are super sweet, friendly and gentle. The dentists are really relaxed and easy going. They aren't worried about getting your money, but genuinely seem more interested in earning your trust and your future business. We will continue to drive an hour from where we live to this practice until we move out of this part of Texas. That's how awesome they are. read more

I had my first dental appointment in YEARS today because I had convinced myself that I have a mouthful of cavities due to some sensitivity pain. By the way I HATE going to the dentist. I hate the scraping and the drowning feeling I get when they squirt water in my mouth, the sanding of that cleaner toothbrush thing, ALL OF IT! Especially because I have never had a cavity and at this point in my life, the thought of drilling into my teeth really freaks me out. The staff could not have been nicer. I called for an appointment at 3:00 on a wednesday & they had me scheduled at noon the following day. I showed up early to fill out paperwork & had zero wait time. They even had a form to address my concerns about anxiety over: judgement for not having been to the dentist in a long time (free of guilt), nervousness about pain, and expectations of communication over procedures and treatment needed before proceeding. The hygienist that I saw sat & talked to me a while & Dr. Smith was warm, friendly & disarming. I have to go back next week to have a tiny cavity (thankfully only one tiny one) filled so we shall see how that goes, but so far my experience has been a wonderful one! I have been a patient at Buttercup Dental for 5 years. I have had fairly consistent dental care throughout my life so my visits here, initially, we're just routine exams and cleanings. Over the last month, I have been dealing painful receding gums. I had painless receding gums a year ago that I simply could afford to have treated at that time. I called Buttercup Dental when the pain got unbearable and was in the dentist chair within 3 hours. I appreciated that! My usual hygienist is Laura and this woman is top notch. She is so kind and compassionate. She treats patients with the utmost respect and care. She makes sure I'm comfortable and pain free. For my painful gums appointment, I had a new hygienist. She was good, but she wasn't Laura. Gina is another hidden gem at the office. She helped coordinate with my insurance and got everything scheduled for me as soon as possible. She also always takes the time to ask how I am feeling and to make sure everything is going well. Dr. Stancy is not one for chit chat, but gets right to the treatment. He is also not a fan of patients having tongue rings. I can respect both of those traits in my dental provider. I highly recommend this dental office!! read more

Last week I went to different dentist because of the billing issues with Buttercup Dental and I was surprised when the other dentist told me you have 4 cavities. I went to Buttercup Dental about 2 weeks ago for my routine exam and they didn't mention a thing. So, first they billed me deductible for routine exam (which they shouldn't have) and on top of that they didn't even care to mention that you cavities. Every 6 months I make my faithful trip to the Dentist, something that I usually take for granted. I will say that I have no issues with my teeth and don't have to go through anything painful but my husband does get work done from time to time. The staff is always very happy and hospitable. My first trip there was about 3-4 years ago and they did a very thorough cleaning, so much so that I had to refer my friend who just moved to Austin. When you find a good thing, don't let it go! About a year or two ago they moved from their old location at 183 and Buttercup Creek to their new location on Cypress Creek. The staff here are great and are very friendly, plus the new office is very nice and clean (the office complex is new too).
