Oh my goodness!!! There is nothing bad that I could ever say about this place! I have had regular massages since 1999, due to injuries from a few car accidents, I can undoubtedly say that Rita is by far the best masseuse I have ever had work on my body. As far as her massage skills go, she can do a wide array of styles and techniques. I prefer more deep tissue and Asian style massages (Thai and Chinese) which she is extremely good at but she is also excellent at relaxation massage if that's more your style. She always finishes every massage with hot towels that melt away any remaining stress or tension. The location is conveniently located in downtown Redmond. It's immaculately clean, fresh towels and clean linens everytime, the room is always cozy, relaxing, and inviting. This is the best massage place In east side and yes, I have been to all those super expensive fancy ones in Bellevue too. I went for a massage after a bunch of hikes and I had knots and tight muscles all over my body. She helped with a lot of spots I wasn't even aware was tight until she worked on it. She knew the spots to work on without me having to tell her anything just from her touch. Her hands are magical! She took great care and I felt fantastic after the massage. I'm an athlete and I get massages regularly (once or twice a month for 5+ years now), and I like to try new massage places often. I decided to give Butterfly Massage Spa a try after seeing the 5 star reviews across the board. Maybe I caught her on an off day, but it was by far the most unprofessional experience I've ever had. I booked a 1.5 hour deep tissue massage because I really needed someone to push on my shoulders/traps. She seemed very frazzled when I got there: she was on the phone when she answered the door and then left the facility to move her car right as I laid down on the massage table. I understand she must run this business on her own, so I went along with it. Within the first 30-45 minutes of the massage, she did not silence her phone and proceeded to text on her phone 4 times while massaging me. I could hear all the clicking noises of her keyboard. At first, I gave her the benefit of the doubt, but after I counted her texting on 4 different occasions during my massage, I was not very happy. I asked for a deep tissue, and yes she is strong, but she did not massage both sides of my body symmetrically at all. It felt very messy and not methodical at all. She also dug her elbows into my body most of the time (which I don't necessarily mind), but she would push on my bones. Yes, my bones, especially my spine. I asked her to be gentle a couple times and she didn't ease up much. I put up with it because the massage was almost over and I really desperately needed the massage itself. She also pulled the sheets away from my body several times to the point where at least 75% of my body was exposed at one time. I really was not happy and my spine felt like it was kinda beat up by the end of it. During the last 30 minutes of the massage, another customer came in for her massage. Turns out that she accidentally double booked herself. The other customer ended up waiting 30 minutes. I always tip in any establishment, but I was really not happy and did not feel like my experience (especially as a first time customer) was worth a tip. When she saw that I did not tip her, she proceeded to YELL at me for 10 minutes. Tipping is not a requirement. Frowned upon, yes sure, but it is not required. She proceeded to yell at me saying that she has to text and answer calls during massage sessions because otherwise she will lose business... Hmm... I'm sure that you can wait until you are between massage appointments to answer your messages... There's no doubt that the other customer heard her yelling from the other room, not sure what happened after I left though. read more

Rita has been my massage therapist for nearly a year now. She was in Auburn and i followed here when she opened up this location. No one that i have experienced offers the variety of massage techniques that Rita does. From a relaxing massage with hot stone treatment to a deep tissue that goes after those hard to release muscles. She even threw in some Thai massage on one visit. Now that is an experience everyone should try once! Rita does a great job in finding the trouble spots you have without having to point them out. You can tell she has the experience and the training that can be lacking at other places. She has a very smooth technique and you are relaxed from the minute she begins. They are also right on the main street with noise from foot traffic etc. If you're ok with with that I highly recommend her. Rita knows what she is doing when it comes to giving an amazing massage - she's the only person I recommend. My favorite is the 2hr massage - it's a balance between Swedish and Chinese massage and lots of laughs. She applies just the right amount of pressure. She has this ability to read into your individual needs that is second to none. Every visit has been slightly different as she adjusts to meet my needs - she doesn't follow a generic script of 20 minutes on the back, 10 on each leg, 5 on the foot. Overall I would say the massage was good. Been there before and knew to expect to hear a lot of noise but this time it was a bit excessive. The client in the next room was having a full conversation through her whole massage. There were kids running around in what seemed like upstairs and then my masseuses was speaking to someone in her language a few times throughout my massage. I couldn't tell if the door was open or if it was through the wall. It was just weird and not relaxing at all. All that to say is what compelled me to write this review was that I only wanted to leave a 15% tip for these reasons and a few others, but she pulled up a chart showing me what 20% would be. I was very clear at what I wanted to tip so I didn't find this acceptable feeling that 20% was an expectation and reading other reviews indicated this is a pattern there that has not been resolved. I'm a generous tipper but I just didn't have a great experience and to leave with a chart being waved at me pointing at how much I should be offering was just odd and uncomfortable. read more

I was thinking g of getting the deep tissue massage, but that would have been too intense for my situation. I had just come back home from a 4 day backpacking trip in Alaska. Needless to say, my shoulders, back, calves, hips, feet, were all sore after the journey! She gave me a normal relaxing massage and afterwards my body felt more rejuvenated! She asked me the right questions during my 90 minute massage and really helped alleviate the pain from my frozen shoulder. She told me that my muscles were very tight and not only recommended doing cupping in addition to the massage to help with long-term pain relief, but did not charge us for it despite it being the more expensive service. I went to Rita with a frozen shoulder after spending a couple of days in bed. I wanted a deep tissue massage and she accommodate me on her schedule. She noticed the knots on my muscles,and mentioned that her clients suffering of frozen shoulder pain experienced improvement with Chinese cupping. I was so much in pain that I asked her to do it on the right side of my shoulder. I thought I would not tolerate the pain but it was bearable and I left with less pain. I've been going to Butterfly in Redmond for awhile now, and have always been very pleased with their massage. When they reopened after the COVID shutdown, I went in and was more knotted up than usual. The therapist suggested I try the Gua Sha cupping the shop has recently begun offering. I was a bit reluctant, but just as a test, she did the cupping for a half hour on my lower back. It noticeably reduced the tightness and aching I had there. I'm still not quite sure how, but it sure seems to work. Now I have two reasons to go to Butterfly. read more
