If you're visiting the Cooperstown area or anywhere in upstate New York, this is an absolute must-see. We've been coming here for years, and every visit reminds us why it's one of our favorite breweries. The staff is always professional, friendly, and attentive, making the experience enjoyable from the moment you arrive. We live in Texas and were in Cooperstown for a baseball tournament, which gave us another excuse to stop by. I had enjoyed Ommegang's Belgian-style beers for years, but this visit gave me the opportunity to explore more of their lineup. I was impressed by the variety of styles available, and everything I sampled was exceptionally well crafted. The food was excellent as well. The poutine was a standout and tasted every bit as authentic as the poutine I've enjoyed in Canada. It's not always easy to find great food at a brewery, but Ommegang delivers on both fronts. The setting is truly remarkable. Located on a 140-acre former hop farm just outside Cooperstown, the property feels more like a Belgian monastery than a brewery. The beautiful buildings, open spaces, and wooded surroundings create an experience that is worth the trip all by itself. The grounds are impeccably maintained and provide a perfect backdrop for enjoying a pint. Having been open since 1997, it's clear that Brewery Ommegang has had decades to refine both its beer and its operation. Everything feels polished, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Hands down, this is one of the coolest breweries I have ever visited. Great beer, excellent food, fun activities, beautiful scenery, and outstanding service make Brewery Ommegang a place that we look forward to returning to every time we're in the area.

I ordered a wheat blonde beer and told her I also wanted to place a food order. She told me I couldn't do that there, and said I needed to order from the food truck table. That table had a chalkboard with their three specials, different items than the bar menu so I ordered off of that, was given a pager and headed outside (The food truck girl was very kind and asked where I was sitting but I hadn't picked a table yet) I ordered a cauliflower margarita pizza which was just the right size to pair with my beer. It came out quick and hot and tasted good. I sat at my table eating alone and enjoying the music but found that that's what everyone was doing. Sitting at their own tables. The flight was a great value, and the pours were surprisingly generous. We especially enjoyed the American Amber Ale, but there were several other standouts, including the New England IPA. If you're a craft beer fan, you'll have no trouble finding something you like. The biggest surprise of the evening was the pizza from the food truck outside. It was outstanding. I've had pizza all over the country, and this was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The crust, sauce, and toppings were all spot on. The two guys running the pizza truck were incredibly friendly, and it's easy to see they take pride in what they do. After enjoying some great beer and incredible pizza, we spent some time playing cornhole and just relaxing. The brewery also has a nice gift shop with bottled beers and souvenirs if you're looking to take something home. Outdoor seating is at picnic tables in an area around the perimeter of the brewery but there is ample lawn space where dogs are welcome and cornhole can be played.

This brewery, originally founded in Queensbury, NY, opened this outpost in May and was thankfully open on Labor Day. The vibe is laid-back with a good amount of airman-style décor, and we were greeted by Shug, the shop dog--a super friendly Newfoundland who instantly set the tone. The bartender was warm, welcoming, and easy to chat with. Even at the tail end of a busy holiday weekend, when they were out of a few beers, there were still solid options on tap plus canned cocktails from other NY-based distillers. Food came from the onsite truck--standard bar fare but executed really well. We had the pretzel sticks and a grilled cheese with onion rings, and both were excellent pairings for the drinks. They offer flights, but since I usually stick to wheat beers (and they had just run out), I went with water and the canned cocktails. The beer lovers with me all found plenty to enjoy from the tap list. Overall, this spot has that easygoing farm-brewery vibe that makes it a great stop in the area. Good news: Northway has figured this out and nailed it. Building on the bones of the Red Shed Cooperstown facility (RIP), Northway has spruced things up a bit, splashed a bit of Adirondack-ia (is that a word?) around the taproom to put their imprint on it, and otherwise kept all the good bits from the previous tenant. There's the obligatory cornhole courts, space to play wiffleball, and lots of picnic tables in a comfortable, down home space. The food truck is still in place, cranking out pretty good chicken and pulled pork sandos. The only bummer was they were out of onion rings. The tap selection is great; my pal who loves IPAs really digs their Avenue of the Pines (the name makes we think of the Redwoods). I thought their brown and red ales were perfectly drinkable - sometimes, that's all you need or want. Bonus points for awesome label art that looks great on t-shirts. We went to the "other" bigger place first, and I'll say Northway wiped away our disappointment and left us with smiles on our faces. Good work, folks!

The beers we ordered were outstanding; the summer ale was one of the finest and smoothest I've had. I mixed it with the blackberry sour, which was fruity and tart. There were a few regular tables along the perimeter among the high top tables but I chose to sit at the bar. The other patrons were very friendly and included me in their conversation. The beer was crisp and cold. The food came out rather quickly. The nachos were topped with beer cheese, fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, and scallions. There was a very generous amount of sour cream so I didn't have to worry about just eating chips. The bartender kept everyone served and knew what the regulars drank. She checked on me regularly. My only disappointment is that as summer comes to an end I will have to wait until next year to attend the events they have at the brewery.
