If you're visiting the Cooperstown area or anywhere in upstate New York, this is an absolute must-see. We've been coming here for years, and every visit reminds us why it's one of our favorite breweries. The staff is always professional, friendly, and attentive, making the experience enjoyable from the moment you arrive. We live in Texas and were in Cooperstown for a baseball tournament, which gave us another excuse to stop by. I had enjoyed Ommegang's Belgian-style beers for years, but this visit gave me the opportunity to explore more of their lineup. I was impressed by the variety of styles available, and everything I sampled was exceptionally well crafted. The food was excellent as well. The poutine was a standout and tasted every bit as authentic as the poutine I've enjoyed in Canada. It's not always easy to find great food at a brewery, but Ommegang delivers on both fronts. The setting is truly remarkable. Located on a 140-acre former hop farm just outside Cooperstown, the property feels more like a Belgian monastery than a brewery. The beautiful buildings, open spaces, and wooded surroundings create an experience that is worth the trip all by itself. The grounds are impeccably maintained and provide a perfect backdrop for enjoying a pint. Having been open since 1997, it's clear that Brewery Ommegang has had decades to refine both its beer and its operation. Everything feels polished, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Hands down, this is one of the coolest breweries I have ever visited. Great beer, excellent food, fun activities, beautiful scenery, and outstanding service make Brewery Ommegang a place that we look forward to returning to every time we're in the area.

I wanted to stay inside (mosquitos are always an issue in the evening), so they have a really nice tap room area as well as their dining area. You might start with their award-winning American Brown Ale. I was very pleased with how well made this ale was, with real depth and richness without any cloying sweetness. I followed it up with a Pomegranate Odyssey, a wild fermented sour ale. If you like sour ales, as I do, you should like this, although I've had more strikingly sour ones. This, however, nicely balances just a slight sweetness of pomegranate with the sour ferment. Their veggie burger is very good, although it's not made in-house. Still, it's a quality burger. Perhaps it's changed since my visit, but the veggie burger was served only on a gluten-free roll. Like somehow they'd cover the vegetarians and the gluten-free crowd in one dish, like feeding two birds with one crumb. But I'd prefer a regular, wheat-based roll. Fries were excellent, too. But what really made them stand out was the excellent service and friendly staff. I was alone, and the manager and bar tend both chatted with me, but without being intrusive. Really great people I was happy to get to know a little bit, and they were quite willing share info with me about the menu and brews, as this was my first visit. Very walkable from downtown Hamilton or even from the main Colgate U. campus. Sidewalks or pathways are available to keep off the main road, Rte. 128. No need for the designated driver! Will be back!

Sat at the bar as I was alone but there were tables inside and picnic tables outside for a variety of seating options. I was offered water immediately with my menu. I sampled the Berry Sour Seltzer which tasted great. Not too fruity and too bitter. I ordered a glass. The food offerings were limited to one side of the menu, half being appetizers and half being meals. I was a bit surprised by the cost of the Elk Burger ($29) but made that my choice as I wanted more than an appetizer but good comfort food. It came with smoked gouda, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo on a thick yet soft bun. Salad greens coated with balsamic dressing accompanied the burger (fries were available for an up charge). One bite told me I'd made the correct choice and the price was worth it. The burger (ordered medium well) was hot and juicy and the bun did a great job of balancing that without falling apart or getting soggy. The Gouda cheese had such great flavor and it was in the perfect state of warm but not melt-coated into the burger. My water was consistently refilled and I sat there and enjoyed every bite of that burger and salad while I drank my Seltzer.

Any other time, if you are not a regular, this place might not be for you. I've been here several times with mixed experiences. The last time I was there was a Thursday in the summer of 2024. My husband, brother and I were excited to find seats at the bar and order dinner. The bartender was a short blonde woman and there was a male bar back. The bartender did not acknowledge us for over 15 minutes. We were actively looking at the menu on our phones and talking about what we wanted to try and attempted to make eye contact with her as she walked by us with no luck. She didn't even say "I will be right with you", literally no interaction. She was very friendly with everyone else around us seeming to know exactly what they were drinking and happy to get it for them. We left as we felt very unwelcome there and ended up having excellent service down the street at Lukin's.

We found this little gem and holy toledo did we we strike gold. First of all, the hostess was super nice and greeted us right away even though she was clearly busy and hustling. We chose to sit outside at a picnic table to soak up the beautiful weather. The outside is fun with brightly painted picnic tables and murals on the building. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and offered great suggestions. She was great and we really enjoyed interacting with her. We started with rum punches which were made with freshly squeezed juice and they were out of this world. We shared the "everything" wings which were crispy and that sauce was delicious. We were tempted to lick the sauce off the plate. We refrained so we didn't get strange looks. I had the Kimchi Reuben which is made with house made kimchi I might add. My husband got the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. We both opted for Poutine Fries for our sides. Guys, this food was unique and spectacular. I'm just bummed it's 3 hours from home! But I'll definitely make an effort to be back.

It was nice that they had 16 of us in a banquet room, the penalty box. The penalty box was quite spacious for the 16 of us. They had a few tables set up with silverware and popcorn for us. Three of the four tables were great. I really question the last table they set up. It was literally falling apart. It was so unstable. It needed more than just a couple coasters to stabilize the table which they tried doing. Common sense to me is don't use the table but as unstable as the table was, they actually thought it would work. It's quite humorous really, that you thought in the whole process of getting everything set up that in your sober mind it would work. After the whole fiasco of getting the tables rearranged, we finally got our drinks started. After drinks were dropped off, I went ahead and told the servers that we were ready to order. I didn't want to wait any longer. They were gone for long periods of time. With that big of a party that's in the back, you'd think that they would be around more often. For starters we got the giant pretzel to share. For lunch I got the hot honey smothered chicken with extra brocolli subbed for the mashed potatoes. The giant pretzel was very giant. It came with two types of cheese sauces. One was regular nacho type. It had a nice heat to it. The other cheese sauce was topped with bacon. The pretzel itself was not overly salted. It was harder on the outside but soft in the middle. It was plenty for the 5 of us to share. Lunch finally made it's way out. Some adjustments needed to be made since they wasn't enough broccoli for all of us. Our server adjusted two out of the four of us that needed our brocolli subbed. My plate was one of the last to get served. I had to ask my server about my second side since I asked for double brocolli. No other hot vegetable was available so I settled for coleslaw. My chicken was tender. There was a good amount of veggies and cheese on top of it. It was ok, I had a few bites and wasn't all too thrilled about it. The brocolli was roasted and had a nice char on it from the roasting. My son got a side of butter for his brocolli so I added a a little on mine. It was a good addition to it. The coleslaw tasted like store bought so I didn't eat much of it. We started off our dining experience with 2 servers and then ended with 1. Clearly she wasn't equipped to take on a party that big alone. Refills were asked for multiple times. Same with boxes and my husband's slushy. She finally told us that the slushy machine was down after we waited a while for it. She never checked up on us after lunch was dropped off until it was time to close us out. She was gone 85% of the whole time. It was honestly some of the worst service. As a past server, how does one leave a table unattended for that long of a period of time and feel like you deserve 20%? I feel bad that my husband spent his father's day meal here. He does so much for us throughout the year and he had to settle for less than basic food and service. From the table to the lack of service and everything else in between, I would recommend you going somewhere else but here for a meal.
