Best fish tacos, and the presentation is great! Fish was fresh and tasty, as well as all the other ingredients laid out artfully on the platter. The "fish sauce" was good, a nice complement to the fish. I love the fun, hippie decor. Service was friendly, and efficient, owners are there working and our friendly, and appreciative. Extremely mediocre! It should be illegal to serve Frozen Shrimp in the OBX! Hippie attitude don't rush us was just to warn about poor service. I've had better fried shrimp in landlocked Oklahoma! Food was attractively served and atmosphere was fun. The blackened shrimp wasn't hot when served but I think it was at least fresh. Lettuce was browning, and rice and beans unseasoned. AUGUST 2019 Entrees averaged $13. We waited approx 20 minutes for our food, which arrived hot and very tasty: ( note we had to pay 2:50 extra for French fries but they were unusual and delicious, having been battered before frying). The burger look to be half a pound of meat. Also had the much smaller but healthier avocado and warm crab stuffing wrap. Smallish location with limited seating but we were seated immediately at 12:30, just lucky I guess! Frequented by locals of all ages, which is always a good sign and noticed single diners seemed very comfortable seated at the bar. They're located in a little strip mall next to a liquor store, so slightly off the beaten path but well worth the stop. Family owned and run by very friendly plesant people. Drinks were $2-3 for Cokes and iced tea, but with free refills and they let us take ours to go in plastic cups for the long car ride back to the Norfolk Airport. They serve alcohol but we didn't drink at lunch time. read more

Ate here while on vacation in OBX. My son said the chicken nuggets were the best he'd ever eaten. He wanted to go back for dinner that night but they were only open for lunch. Best place for Mahi Mahi tacos in this area. They put all you need to make your own tacos on your Togo tray or on your plate if dining in. I can't have gluten or dairy and I am able to use the whole plate of toppings and fish and eat it like a salad with my gluten free crackers and dressing or with my rice tortillas. Best place I have found so far to eat at while camping in this area. The ladies are nice and work around my diet restrictions very well by leaving off the cheese and tortillas. read more

We came to Buxton Munch on Wednesday July 2nd, 2014. My dad was driving a Harley Electra-glide Ultra when we decided to stop here for lunch on our way to Ocracoke. The food was yummy and fresh. So five stars to the food! AND FIVE STARS TO THE GIRL IN THE TYE DYE SHIRT (and everyone else) THAT HELPED MY DAD GET OUT OF THE SAND! My dad was dehydrated and drove the Harley into a sandy/grassy area next to the parking lot. I was on the back, and when my dad turned, we both fell with the bike. Even though it was sand, we both got injured. My dad bloodied his face and hurt his shoulder and I hurt my leg and hip. Immediately people from the parking lot came to help us. After we got up and dusted ourselves off we realized the bike was stuck. My mom went inside Buxton Munch and asked for a board or shovel to help get us out of the sand. A petite girl with long brownish blonde hair jumped up and told my mom to meet her outside. She sprung to action and organized everyone who was helping us. Another lovely woman got a rope from her truck and she tied to the strongest park of the bike. Another man pulled his truck around and tried to tie the rope to his truck but it didn't fit. Eventually we tied it to a sweet couples' Tahoe. Two men held either side of the bike up, assured my dad they wouldn't let him fall, and guided him out of the sand. When we thanked everyone, the girl from Buxton Munch said "no problem, this is what a community is for". I don't know any of your names but your kindness and quick thinking saved us. I was so flustered that I could not have done what you all did. From the bottom of our hearts my whole family thanks you. We will never forget your compassion, thoughtfulness, and help. Thank you so much to everyone that day, I wish we could call you all our neighbors! read more

Buxton Munch is a fantastic lunch spot in Buxton! They have delicious fish tacos, wraps and more. The food is always fresh and is NOT fast food. It is a small restaurant, so in the busy season there is usually a wait. But be patient, as it is definitely worth the wait! read more

Worst service I've had in awhile. We walked in and the lady didn't even greet us she put her pointy finger up in a "one second" motion while she said something to the people in the back. Then she's like "ok what do you want?" And we said we wanted to eat outside which she insisted on it being carry out. So carry out it was. Then we wait 15-20 minutes. I thought they forgot about our food so I went in and she's like "Rebecca?!" Uhhh no biotch you just helped me not too long ago. Then I said our order name and she's like "oh it's almost ready" so I waited another 5 minutes and the lady gives is our food as carry out even though the benches were directly outside the restaurant. Then we open our food and our French fries were missing. So I go inside and tell some other girl and she's like "no you didn't pay for them so it'll be $2.50" I was like oh ok so I go outside to get my purse and my boyfriend was like "just forget about them" so we continue to eat and a few minutes later the first woman that took our order (short black hair early 50's) come out and says (which I quote!!) "what's with the fries?" And I'm like "excuse me?" That was beyond rude, she had an attitude?! Then she says "I thought you didn't want fries anymore but then you came inside wanting fries and never paid for them" well I guess that was my mistake for not going back in and paying for the fries but I didn't know she actually put the order in. Overall, this is a service industry. My boyfriend and I were in a great mood on vacation then this lady was so rude to us and ruined our lunch. Our very first stop on the island based on reviews. After the experience we had we will never go back. Terrible customer service, so-so food, extremely rude manager. Check your receipt! When questioning our bill the manager became irate and started yelling at our entire party. The bill simply did not add up and we were trying to clarify costs. Staff was also openly complaining about this manager. Will never ever step foot in this place again. Terrible experience for the beginning of our vacation!! The owner did offer our check on the house, however we left $140 on the counter as we left. We were not looking for free food, just simply trying to figure out why our check did not add up. There were five of us and we were all craving seafood. The server recommended the fish tacos. Three of us ordered them and they were the best fish tacos that we have ever had! The fish was blackened nicely and was cooked perfect. You build your own taco with the fresh sides that came with the meal. I'm a huge fan of their tacos. The other meals that were ordered included the crab wrap and clam chowder. Both were good too. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice. We had one request, we needed a cup of coffee. Great food, just prepare yourself for "island time". Grabbed a quick bite here based off of yelp reviews and wasn't let down! Waited about 15 min for a table. Small place with limited tables (they have counter tops and bar height tables). Husband ordered a strawberry smoothie while we waited. He loved it and we debated on getting a second. Instead, we ordered fried macaroni and cheese. It came out super quick and our 3 year old devoured it. We ordered a turkey sandwich, blackened fish tacos, and the crab cake sandwich with fries. Everything was so big and delicious. Husband raved about tacos. We had a large to go box. Fries were my favorite, cooked crispy to perfection. They also have a to go counter, so might try that later on this week. Defiantly will return again! read more
