Very great selection of instruments HOWEVER... EXTREMELY rude employees, and I don't really write reviews all that much unless it was an extremely great or extremely unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, my experience was the latter. Very rude and condescending employees and I'm just a laid-back guy who loves music. I've been consistently impressed at the selection of instruments they've got here. Particularly unique guitars, banjos, and mandolins - great place to check if you're looking for something other than the standard mass produced fare. I appreciate that the staff is not pushy in the slightest, and they seem to respect the relationship between a musician and and their need to fit the instrument that suites them best, which sometimes takes time and trying many different instruments side by side. Also feel that they've been quite fair and reasonable with making deals on trade-ins. Much more so than a corporate music store like Guitar Center. I went here to get a few things, including books. I was having a hard time choosing one or the other and asked for their opinion. The younger guy very stiffly said he couldn't say either way on what book would include what. I asked if he could look through them and help me determine but he shrugged and said he really couldn't say... while the older guy, who likely runs the shop, stood behind him. Quietly watching our interaction, so it felt like I was just being told a scripted answer. It was the weirdest thing for a retail worker to absolutely refuse to help like that. Like others, when shopping, all they do is stand quietly behind the counter unless the older man is on the phone. He also couldn't give me advice on what to choose, as if he didn't want to sway me not to buy something and to get something else. When I asked if he could show me a certain section, he seemed put off by having to walk around the counter to show me, as if I should know where everything is already. I also wanted to get something they had behind the counter, which was just a small and cheap piece, but despite having to look around the store still for the books, he refused to allow me to carry it around and had to keep it at the counter. Like I'm going to run out of the store for an item that is only a few dollars. I think their books are also overpriced. If they are "like new" they are still used, so shouldn't be sold for the price printed on the back of the book. Unless it's a very rare book to find or something. And if they have things written all in them, they shouldn't be almost the same price but only a few dollars off or whatever. A normally $25 book they marked down to $20 because it did have writing all over it, but it rendered it kind of useless if you are wanting to learn it on your own without answers written in. I also experienced a kind of awkward rudeness from the older man, like others have. I probably will not be returning to them since there are other places with competitive pricing and better customer service. I also witnessed the older man on the phone with a few people in a row and was rude to each of them and acted accusatory that what they were selling he couldn't prove was "legit" what they were claiming it was... yes, that is why you do research on a product once they bring it in. Instead of mistrusting someone on the phone before meeting them in person. It helps if you're already well-acquainted with antiques. Why offer to buy an antique instrument off someone if you aren't going to believe it's real? I don't know, it's just not the best environment in my opinion... read more

Really extensive variety of instruments. They have Middle Eastern stringed instruments, oriental, and mainstream guitars, basses, accordians, wood/wind instruments, sheet music, etc. Knowledgeable staff, and pretty reasonable prices. The selection isn't as large as other stores in downtown Eugene, and it's not the Guitar Center, but then, that's perhaps a good thing. Overall, I'd start here (and maybe stay here, too). Not a huge place, but way fun. read more

Today I inquired about selling my viola and was basically dismissed by the unfriendly and rude older man that I can only assume runs the place. The younger gentleman is very helpful. He wasn't familiar with the brand of Viola I had so he asked me to return when his boss was available and when doing so, the older man scoffed at the fact that it is a German model, it's 15 1/2 inches which is typically for high school students, and went on nit picking the case, to which he reminded me again and again that he's been in the business long enough and knows how to open a case for which he struggled to open. If you don't want it or can't sell it, say so. Sir, I hope you don't treat your other customers like dirt or with such disdain. Otherwise the store looks well kept and stocked. read more

This store's "all sales final" policy is never verbally stated at point of sale or posted in print anywhere on their storefront. You only find out the hard way, after it is too late. That is, when the manager points to it in very fine print toward the bottom of the receipt when you try to return a given item. Moreover, the manager behaves like an admixture of a thug, bully, & pawn shop owner, & prides himself in not giving you a full refund even if you try to return an item well within the same month you purchased it & even when the item is still in pristine, mint condition (& even the most discriminating of customers would have no reason to believe otherwise). The manager cannot be reasoned with & treats you like your guilty until proven innocent vs. the way court systems treat people (innocent until proven guilty). He immediately gets on the offensive accusing you of all manner of subterfuge & like a frequent offender when you have only ever come in his store once for a return! He criminally profiles you so as to throw his weight around & intimidate you into second guessing yourself. He then becomes punitive the more you try to appeal to his humanity. My best friend & neighbor was going to make this store her go-to store & was treated in a most similar fashion. read more

I often refer to this store as the Goodwill of music. Inside, you'll find not only every instrument you can think of, but also any book and accessory on Earth. More than once I've walked into this store with the intention of buying a $15 book, and walked out with a new instrument. Maybe that's just a personal issue, but this place is great. I've found many gently used and well loved instruments for pretty good prices, and lots more that I hope to take home one day. Also, this is the store to which I send my music students when they need books or strings or new instruments. My only complaint about this store is that the owner can be a little rude. I understand being protective of your store, but I don't like being followed through it just because I'm a young guy. I did get an apology though, so I'm over it now. This is the ideal store for new and experienced musicians, and anyone who likes looking at crazy instruments around every corner. read more

Their no-return policy, while understandable for used gear, is lame for new gear. I bought a keyboard stand whose height did not work for my keyboard. Now I'm stuck with store credit, but there is nothing I want to buy. It does not make me want to shop there again. read more

I literally made an account just to make this post. Owner has absolutely terrible people skills. I worked with a very nice and helpful younger man the day before and spent 300+ Dollars on a new guitar and case. Today I went in to sell my old ukulele and was met with a rude old man who spoke down to me and all but outright accused me of having stolen the piece to begin with. Really regret having given any of my money or time to that old bastard. What a terrible way to run a business. On another note: the place smelled like straight up mold. read more

Such an incredible store with a great selection and variety of just about anything music. Dan and Steve are incredible people with an extensive knowledge base, and are fantastic to do business with. It's the perfect representation of how local business enriches community. Support these guys. I drove in from Portland just to go to this store and it was more than worth it. Never buy anything besides an eclectic instrument here, unless you want a huge markup on strings that you can't return. Seriously tf, strings. The lifeblood of a guitarist. Classic spot for musicians in Eugene. Always a huge selection of instruments & music books. The owner has somewhat poor people skills and gets a bad reputation but once you know him he's really not that bad. Local musicians are fortunate to have this store around! read more
