Best Cajun Ever! Get sampler plate with blacken catfish, jambalaya, cup of gumbo and hushpuppies!

My husband is a southern boy, so he really loves to go out for a Cajun meal whenever we can. He ordered the armadillo eggs, and I thought that sounded disgusting. Let me tell you, they are well worth it. They are filling, delicious, and the name doesn't do it justice. We sat outside due to a beautiful fall day, so the environment was so casually beautiful. I ordered a margarita, blended, which was delicious.I ordered the Cajun nachos and the gumbo. Both were fantastic, and my only complaint is that I could barely make a dent in either of them because of the generous portion size. If I had to choose again, I might not choose the Cajun nachos... The only reason is because they had a lot of banana peppers which I do not love. However, that was my fault as I had not read the description of the food thoroughly. My husband had the fried catfish fillets with french fries with coleslaw and red beans and rice. That also came with hush puppies which were amazing. He said that he felt full after the first fillet, but we both made ourselves miserable by over-eating. LOL. We will definitely return to Buzzard's the next time that we are in Lincoln, Nebraska. read more

The food is delicious, but the service was awful. I was there with a group of colleagues for a birthday lunch. I was quite clear with my order: that I wanted my hamburger medium-rare with barbecue sauce both on the burger and extra on the side, with sweet-potato fries. What I got was a burger medium-well, regular fries, and no barbecue sauce on the burger. Had to flag the waitress down. I explained the missing components. After most of my colleagues had finished eating, she comes back with my burger, again with no barbecue sauce, medium well. At that point I just decided to eat the damn burger because I'd probably still be waiting for it now. Still no barbecue sauce. Finally, she comes by with the barbecue sauce and says "I'm going to charge you extra for that." No apologies, no "I'm really sorry I messed up your order," etc. The only way I will ever return to this place is if I'm forced to for another office birthday, which is sad because the food is decent. read more

We stopped at Buzzard Billy's after the Northwestern game had a very negative experience bartenders were unattentive spent more time drinking shots behind the bar then taking care of the customers. We were served call drinks in 3 oz plastic cups. Actually saw a bartender - refuse to serve a middle-aged man because he didn't have a wristband on. They did take the time to check his ID or go get him a wristband would not serving him a drink..... unbelievable. Food quality has really slipped also. read more

The waitress was not very nice. She chewed us out for not checking with her before sitting outside (party of 8). They were not busy. After I tasted the food I understand why. It was bad. All I ever have when I come here is the catfish po'boy, and as far as I'm concerned, that's enough, it's the best. Their hushpuppies are delicious. I've had tastes of my dining companions' food, and it has been very good. They acknowledge you when you come in, even if they can't get right to you, which I can't stress enough is SO IMPORTANT for a business, especially when busy. Service is capable and as speedy as they can be, depending on volume, so be patient. They have an electronic beer menu with an extensive list of beers...most of which they don't have or are out of, I asked why they didn't just remove them from the should-be-easy-enough-to-update electronic menu and was counseled instead to looked at the table top menu as those were more updated. And about 1/10 as lengthy, so tbh they don't have as much of an offering as they try to make it seem, I guess. Still, come for the food, and you'll be happy. read more

Came to Lincoln for my niece's baby shower. In the evening we found ourselves at the Hay Market. First of all the Hay Market is amazing in it's own right. We decided on Buzzard Billy's. From the moment we got there the staff took excellent care of us. I asked if I could have the mushroom gravy on the ribeye. The waitress checked with the chef and the answer was, "yes". I had the rib eye. It was draped over a mound of garlic potatoes and really it was perfection. The atmosphere was so comfortable and the restaurant had interesting decor. armadillos on the ceiling fans and a collection of some of the best beer signs in the midwest. Our group had great conversation, we didn't have to yell to hear each other. I recommend Buzzard Billy's for a "great" casual dining experience. read more

I just left buzzard Billy's after being greeted by the staff as a woman. I am obviously not a woman. When I asked both of the staff what about me made them think I was a woman. One said nothing and the other refused to answer and both walked away after saying simply sorry. I asked the manager, kim, about this and advised her I wanted to know the reason from both of the staff why I was insulted. Kim told me they said they were sorry and asked if I was going to eat there. I told I was not sure if I was unless the reasons for the insult were explained. Kim then advised me I was not a customer and when the staff was not busy I could talk to them, but it could be a long wait. Everyone pretty much said all the good stuff. I had the jumbalia. Had a good spice to it and tasted great. My dad had Alligator and he loved it. Said he could check another one off his bucket list. My wife ordered the chicken salad. One of the cut pieces was still pink in the middle, so watch your chicken here. Sweet tea was good, could be a little sweeter but I'm from the south. I'm quite fond of the chicken-and-sausage gumbo, and they do a good blackened catfish. They serve sweet tea, which is a nice touch, and the hush puppies are very tasty. My hubby and I love this place everytime we go dowtown (which is about 6 months-a year). The same quality and great cajun flavor every time. We chose to enjoy the patio seating on a hot summer day. I would suggest possibly getting those misters or some fans out there, other than that, our server was great and we have no complaints about the food. My hubby loved the cajun popcorn (fried crawfish tails) and I really enjoyed my salad. I like being able to taste the flavors and this place has it down. read more

Best place in all of Lincoln. If you want a place that has character and a unique menu, this is the place for you. The Rasta Pasta is by far my favorite, but every pasta dish and other things I've had have all been great. Just ate the 12 oz sirloin. They cooked it to a perfect medium-rare. Great flavor. Had a bowl of red beans and rice as a side dish. Two or three dashes of Hot Sauce and it was perfect! Generous portion of steamed mixed veggies were very good. There are about a dozen restaurants in this little area of Lincoln but I will definitely eat here again during my visit to Lincoln. Was having a great time having drinks service was great. We were sitting outside in the corner with a breeze in our face. Apparently the problem was we were smoking cigars. Never mind that we were paying customers in a smoking area. Pretty soon the manager comes out and let's us know that they were loosing business because of us and we would have to either put them out or leave. For a midwestern Cajun restaurant I was pleasantly surprised! The gator was good, nearly as good as the gator we get in Florida. They probably have the best buffalo burger I have ever had as well. Portion sizes are good, drinks are cold, prices are good. The patio is a great place to sit and relax on a nice night. My husband and I hit up Buzzard Billy's for at least a quarter of our date nights in Lincoln (Good buffalo burgers are so hard to find! Went in before a baseball game at about 5 pm on a weekday. Armadillo eggs were barely warm and so dry you could barely swallow. I had blackened chicken, so dry I could barely swallow. Red beans and rice were ok and so was the chicken and sausage gumbo, but really had no flavor. My brother had jambalaya, and it was not good at all!
