Screamers Family Restaurant, unfortunately, forced me to rate them a single star for those very reasons. We wanted to try it as we'd heard from a friend or two that it was good. And to be fair, my harsh review is just "my opinion". The establishment was very busy when we entered with mostly families, many of multiple generations. Our table for our party of four was located near the front, by the check-in and the bar, was two nondescript square tables, pushed together and basic metal chairs with a slight pad on the seat and back. Nothing special, just functional. Our server took a while to appear. Maybe she was "performing". Screamers is a "musical performance restaurant" where the servers take turns grabbing the mic and belting out loud (and not always good) show tunes and songs from the theater performances they've done in their "other job". I expected really good vocals. Only one of four had that. And It was very loud. And that's not something I generally note in my reviews. I believe a loud restaurant is one where people are enjoying themselves. In this case the restaurant was loud because the servers made it so by screaming into the mic...hence the name? Once our server arrived, we ordered appetizers. She raved about their wings, so we went for them. I specifically and carefully explained to her that I wanted 12 wings "naked" with two sauces on the side - BBQ and Buffalo. I also asked for both Ranch and Blue Cheese for dipping. In about 15 minutes what arrived was 12 wings - 6 tossed in BBQ and six in Buffalo with two servings of Ranch on the side. A total miss. I mentioned it to her and she said - "Oh, I'm sorry about that." - and then exited. I was dumbfounded. In two minutes she was "screaming" into the mic. I wondered....is she here to serve or sing? She seems unable to do both. With atmosphere, service, and theme covered - let's get to the food. We ordered two grilled salmon, "Prime" rib, and meatloaf. The salmon was overdone, but looked good. The potatoes and fries served with each were acceptable. The "Prime" rib was a tough piece of beef rib that was almost inedible. My order - their "famous" meatloaf was not good at all. First of all, it was sliced into rectangular medallions that were then microwaved and topped with a fairly tasteless tomato sauce. This is the first time I've EVER had meatloaf that was sliced, reheated and then covered to the point of no recognition with sauce...at least place it under the broiler and sear the sauce to the top! Now with all of this said, I'm sure the owners of Screamers are good people with great hopes and intentions. And the reviews we've heard from others were that the place was good. So maybe I experienced the perfect storm...or maybe my expectations are just too high and others have much lower expectations and are happy here. But my belief is that I need to be honest in my opinion. I worked in a steakhouse in my college years. Met my wife there. I'm a foodie and I love trying new restaurants. I tried Screamers Family Restaurant and I don't think I'll try it again. It was a rare "One-Star" for me. You may feel differently if you try it. To each his own.
