If you're looking for some good Cajun food in Lincoln. This place is it. Had the Ettoufe and it was cooked and seasoned well, portion was huge! Made it about halfway throug. Service was a touch lacking but not even close to the worst I've ever had. The place looked just like spots i saw in New Orleans, very eclectic decor. Stopped by while in the area for the first time and had a pretty mixed experience. Walking in, there was a noticeable weird smell, which wasn't the best first impression. On the positive side, the service was good, staff was attentive and friendly, and the overall atmosphere inside was actually nice and inviting. As for the food, it was just okay. The salad was very bland, nothing special or memorable about it. The chicken with Jamaican spice was a bit disappointing, it tasted like the seasoning was just sprinkled on top after plating rather than being cooked in, so the flavor didn't really come together. Overall, not a terrible experience, but not one that would make me go out of my way to return. If someone suggested it, I'd probably pass. read more

Dog friendly patio My hubby went to look for server and we got out seats outside promptly. We waited about 10 minutes before we were tended to. They had apparently forgotten to let our server know she had a table outside. But once she knew, it all went very smoothly. She took our orders for drinks and appetisers. And got right to eat. The drinks took a little longer but she also promptly informed us that they were coming. We got gator fries for appetisers Lightly battered and crispy alligator bits. They were tender with a wonderful mustard sauce It was delish!!!!! Then she took our food orders. I ordered a crayfish etoufee It was delicious. Bits of crayfish in delicious gravy. I have to say the gravy looked like it had been dished out awhile whilst waiting for either my hubby's food or my bread. Presentation of the gravy looked a little congealed but the taste was good. Hubby's food tasted wonderful too. I had to use the restroom before leaving and the decorations in the restaurant felt like i was thrown back in time to the 1960s. Joined some coworkers for a meal while traveling in Downtown Lincoln! Sat outdoors and the view was great! Loved being able to see the town and dine. Massive menu with lots of options - ordered the Creole Crab and Corn Soup for an app, and the Blackened Chicken Caesar as a meal. The soup was a bit on the salty side for me unfortunately. Great location in heart of downtown Lincoln, parking is always a pain, very cool decor, old school gas pumps, signs with a deeps south feel, service was slow, once our food arrived waiter never came back to check on us, didn't refill my drink or ask how the food was. We ordered the Armadillo eggs, the taste was ok but way overcooked, bacon burnt, chicken was dry. The grilled shrimp skewer had zero flavor, no seasoning, corn and crab soup was super salty, I ordered the Cajun platter that came with seafood gumbo, Jambalaya and blackened catfish, the only thing decent was the catfish, very fresh and clean, cooked well, the thick tomato pasty hard rice substance they called gumbo is not gumbo, the Jambalaya was ok, but again overloaded with tomato, couldn't taste anything else in it. It's a shame I love Louisiana cuisine but won't be back to try this place again. read more

Pretty cool place in a great spot downtown Lincoln. The bigger was solid and the service as well. I will be back to try some of their cajun food. Unfortunately I was not too hungry and didnt even finish the whole burger. I am sure the row is a blast during football and basketball games. Go see them. The bartender waited on me as well. Came here with my fiance for dinner to celebrate his birthday. We really liked the variety of items here! So many to choose from, but the downside was that they didn't have too many modifications available to make it healthy. He got the Alligator Grand Chenier. The dish was just as described. Bearded alligator meat in a creamy sauce with mushrooms and onion. What a massive serving size here! We were both shocked at the size of the dish that came. A large amount of sauce with some alligator meat in it. I was really hoping there would be more meat though. I asked before if it were possible to get the sauce on the side or something but it turned out they cooked the meat in the sauce and it's all prepared ahead of time. It would have been great to get that sauce on the side and control the serving size but overall it was a good dish. I ordered the Chicken Tchoupitoulas(Cajun style grilled chicken breast) which was cooked perfectly and quite fresh. The Cajun seasoning on there was top notch! We both got a side of Cajun cream corn and steamed vegetables. The vegetables were quite a generous amount. And perfectly steamed. A collection of broccoli, cauliflower and yellow squash as well as carrots. The creamed gone tasted so rich and had a really really deep flavor to it. A very very serving size. Here is well. I had some and took the rest to go but ended up not having any more the next day because I called to ask about the ingredients and it turned out they had quite an amount of heavy cream and bacon grease in there. Not the most healthy option, but really good and taste if this is not something you care about too much. He also got a Moscow mule (strawberry basil I think). The cook, however, should be retrained on what medium and medium rare look like. I think we'll find a new place to go for any special occasions. Had the opportunity to visit Lincoln Nebraska this week for dinner with my niece. I was very pleased she chose Buzzard Billy's. It was an absolutely lovely evening, so we sat on the covered patio/porch. Absolutely great atmosphere in the historic Haymarket District. Even though we sat outside, the service was excellent. The food was fresh and fast. Portions were a little smaller than the LaCrosse location, but it was plenty of food. The food presentation was great. I had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo, which was perfect as usual. My niece had the burger, also wonderful. I have never had a bad experience at Buzzard Billy's; such wonderful people. An amazingly lovely evening for my first visit to Nebraska in a very long time. read more

Don't waste your time stopping at this place. It used to be our favorite place in Lincoln, but it has totally gone down hill! We stopped in for a drink and to play the trivia that is advertised on Thursday nights. The place was pretty empty, especially for a Thursday night at 7:00. The bar had only 4 people sitting at it, so we walked up and sat at the bar. In front of us was a lady who looked up at us and went right back into cleaning whatever she was cleaning. The bartender was just standing at the end of the bar. I finally just said an awkward "Hello" to the lady in front of us and she looked up and said, "Hello" and went right on with what she was doing again....it was very strange. After about 3 minutes or so, I said, "usually one would ask us if we would like something to drink"? She replied, "He (meaning the guy standing doing nothing at the end of the bar) will be with you in a minute". After about 5 more minutes of waiting, I asked her about the trivia that was supposed to be happening per their advertisements (which we come to each time we visit Lincoln) and she replied, "we haven't done trivia for over a year now because our speaker system is broken". We never did get waited on, so we left and will never be back! That is two times in a row we have gotten crappy or no service at all. There are so many other wonderful choices of food and entertainment in the Haymarket, Buzzard Billy's will never get our business again. I would highly recommend no one else waste your time here either. read more

Had some issues at Buzzard Billy's the other day. The hush puppies and crawfish jumbo were great! We sat outside and ambiance was good, but service was slow. The real issues was my mother being given alligator when she asked for shrimp. And when she asked for shrimp, it was given to her raw. As for my chicken mushroom sandwich, It was good but dry. I was excited to see there was a BB in Lincoln, NE. It is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at in Des Moines, IA when I am there for work. The food was amazing! I had the Cajun Combo. Very good seasoning on the catfish, gumbo was awesome and the jambalaya was spiced up nicely. Service was very good and friendly, I gave them a 4 star because how long it took us to get our food after ordering, granted it is a Friday night in a college town but there was a table that received their food before we did even though they ordered after. The blackened catfish does not taste "fishy" and has just the right amont of seasoning. The Creole rice used in a few of the dishes is incrediby flavorful. Our servers have always been friendly and attentive. The reason I am leaving a 4-star review is because of ordering a hurricane, expecting it to be traditional, think Pat O'Brien's. Instead it was one of their "special" ones that was orange in color and tasted peachy. Whether it had actual peach anything in it, I do not know. The Good The bad and The ugly! The good is their signature drinks they're outside ambience, service and general location downtown. Now to the food, the bad and ugly. I was so excited when I saw they had Cajun Creole menu however the night I went about 1 month ago it had no flavor and was lacking in the spices needed to be a real Louisiana treat. As such I returned the plate explain the situation and it came back tasting just as bad but now with tons of black pepper in it. Of course this was credited to my bill as it should be. I heard that the chef was not really a chef that night and was recently a waitress. So until they get a good chef that knows how to cook Cajun Creole food I would suggest management removing it from the menu because that was not good at all. Very rude service. Would not recommend at all. I came to pick up my food, and the front desk pointed to bar and said "at the bar". I stood by the bar for 10 mins and nobody came to help, despite there are two workers stood around and doing nothing, and they knew I was at the bar. At that point, I thought I just need to grab my food, because no one said "someone will pick the food for you". What a great experience! The food was really good and great level of spice with a creole kick. I had the the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo with a corn-based soup which is very warming on a cold day. The service was absolutely amazing and our server gave us great recommendations.
