Very rude service. Would not recommend at all. I came to pick up my food, and the front desk pointed to bar and said "at the bar". I stood by the bar for 10 mins and nobody came to help, despite there are two workers stood around and doing nothing, and they knew I was at the bar. At that point, I thought I just need to grab my food, because no one said "someone will pick the food for you". The Good The bad and The ugly! The good is their signature drinks they're outside ambience, service and general location downtown. Now to the food, the bad and ugly. I was so excited when I saw they had Cajun Creole menu however the night I went about 1 month ago it had no flavor and was lacking in the spices needed to be a real Louisiana treat. As such I returned the plate explain the situation and it came back tasting just as bad but now with tons of black pepper in it. Of course this was credited to my bill as it should be. I heard that the chef was not really a chef that night and was recently a waitress. So until they get a good chef that knows how to cook Cajun Creole food I would suggest management removing it from the menu because that was not good at all. Bar/restaurant atmosphere with beautiful wood bar. Decor is retro, 50s, 60s, and heavy does of the seventies. Po Boy catfish with sweet potato fries and Philly Cheesesteak burger with fries were both excellent. Skinny Legs IPA was good too! Nice and hoppy. I ordered chicken wings and alligator bites, very simple and I was pleased. Someone in my party ordered a catfish dinner, I must say the catfish was cooked perfectly. Had a recommendation for this place. The food was not as good as they said it was on their dining there. We were told all the dishes they were flavorful, and they really enjoyed the 8 different homemade hot sauces. My seafood jambalaya was bland, the rue was non existent just plain white rice with canned tomatoes and a few onions. The shrimp and crawfish were plentiful. There were no special sauces on the table just the standard. Tabasco and sriracha. The corn, crab chowder was equally bland, again no rue, maybe some flour to thicken the milk, but no seasoning. Tuesday night visit while traveling for work. Place was relatively quiet with some great music playing over the system. Modest Mouse, Beck, The Killers and other favorites of mine. Sat at the bar and chatted with the great bar tender who is a chemistry major at the local university. He recommended the tuna. The voodoo tuna was delicious. Cooked rare and very tasty. This is one of my go to restaurants. Its cajun food, and I mean it's ok for that. You always know you're going to get a good meal and a good value at Buzzard Billy's, but it's not a great meal and a great value, solid 4/5 stars. The menu has some variety, jumbalaya, a bunch if crawfish and alligator dishes, voodoo chicken and the like. I wouldn't call it super eclectic but it's pretty good. This is one of the few places where I always get the same meal, which is crawfish fettechini alfredeaux. I don't know if I got the spelling right. They do a stupid fake cajun thing with alfredo that's tough to replicate without looking at the menu. It's simple and good. If you're looking for for a non adventurous way to work crawfish into your cajun themed night out it's a decent choice. They have crappy beer night on Thursdays, which is a fun trivia thing they do where they sell cheap domestic beer, so that's a thing One last piece of advice, be wary of the hurricanes. They make a decent one and it is HIGHLY alcoholic. More than one is inadvisable if you're planning on driving anywhere, and if your tolerance for alcohol is low even one might be too much. Ate breakfast there on a Saturday morning. Service is hit or miss. My waiter wasn't very attentive while the waitress nearby asked her table many times if they were ok. Her table got seated and served food after I had been seated. I had to get up to ask for another cup of coffee and then didn't get helped again until after I was done with my food. Beans were very hard and dry. Pasta Jambalaya was basically a sausage spaghetti with cheese. First a true jambalaya whether made with rice or pasta is not tomato based and cheese is not something added. My suggestion to the cool. Purchase a few boxes of Zatarains mixes. When we moved to Lincoln this was my favorite place to eat, many many years ago. However it dipped in quality a little over a year ago... So it's been awhile since I returned. In a sea of too many pizza, mexican, sandwiches, and burger places, Buzzard Billy's always stood out because it was deliciously different. It had been a while since I was there, and since today is my birthday, I decided to go again. I was blown away at the quality. The food was definitely back up in the very good zone. The greasy blandness that caused me to stop was gone. I went with the red beans, rice and Andouille sausage and I LOVED it. It had kick without being overbearing. It was a trimmed down version and it was presented very nicely, instead of the usual (that I remember) pile. I'm so glad to see this place bounce back, and I hope it's not a slow night fluke. I'll be back as soon as I can. I'm glad to see one of my fave places has answered the call to quality, especially since there is much more competition downtown, granted many of them slid in quality too, but knowing this place is correcting it, I'll be back over and over. Our waitress was attentive, fast, and took care of us. When I told her we had a cub scout meeting to get to, she rang us up quickly and got us on our way just in time. Sunday, September 10, 2023. Great food BUT, when we first sat down my 90 plus year old mother in law said something about ask the little girl referring to our waitress. Now, I've waited tables and, generally speaking, you just smile at any comments and try to help the customer have a wonderful experience. In addition, my mother in law meant nothing more than simply identifying the waitress to the rest of us. Jo, the waitress as she claimed her name to be, took great offense and very loudly "schooled" my mother in law and said, "Don't call me a little girl. I'm 30 years old, OK?" And she was most unpleasant about it. It was uncalled for and rude. I found that so out of line, I almost asked for the manager to complain. For me, I didn't even want to order, I was so upset. My sister in law said she felt the same. Fortunately, my mother in law didn't even hear Jo as my mother in law is a little hard of hearing. I really wanted to just leave and go elsewhere. But we suffered thru. I would probably never go back because of the treatment. That said the food was great and since it was a family dinner, I would choose somewhere a bit more friendly in the future. read more

I'm up here in NE for a year as a contractor. My folks were visiting and we bumped into this place as we were walking around downtown area. My parents live in the Caribbean and my dad LOVES fish. My dad ordered the fried catfish and my mom the po'boy. They were in heaven! I got to admit, we've eaten in a lot of Cajun style restaurants (as I lived in the South for many years) and this was by far the best fried catfish we've tasted. My food, unfortunately, was a completely different story. I ordered the Rasta Pasta, which is supposed to be spicy, creamy with chicken and veggies. I got a chicken fettuccine Alfredo. No taste, no spice and the chicken was like chewing leather. I requested another piece of chicken to replace the chewy one. The new one tasted more bland than the first and it appears it was microwaved. It was inedible. The server was really nice and took it away since there was really nothing to salvage. I ended up eating off my parents plates, which was the best thing I could've done. I'll definitely be coming back but will definitely stay away from the chicken and Rasta Pasta. Server then brought us beers without explanation or apology. I was humiliated after being stressed all weekend about hurricane ida and wanting a taste of home, then being treated that way. The fries were cooked just right...they were not to soft or to crunchy. However the delivery took about an hour and they were not that helpful when I called to asked about the status of it and was passed between two people who still couldn't help. Doing research on restaurants in the the Haymarket Area prior to our trip, this place was the one we were most looking forward to. We even waited an extra day to eat here after getting rid of our hangovers from our previous endeavors. Well needless to say, this place wasn't what we were hoping for. The decor is cool and the service was good, but the main dishes we ordered were sub-par. Three of us ordered the jambalaya (one had it over pasta) and all of us agreed that the dish had way too much tomato character and tasted just like spaghetti, not Cajun. My brother said the gumbo was solid, and the alligator bites and armadillo egg appetizers were above average. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but you'd expect a Cajun restaurant to have at least their jambalaya dialed in. I guess I was expecting a little more from the place. Good, but not great. read more
