We also got Cajun Nachos, these too where Very good. It was also Crappy Beer Night, $2 16oz crappy beer. My daughter loved that but I tried and couldn't stomach the nasty beer so our waitress gave me a small glass of "good" beer. Overall food was amazing and service was great. I didn't find the food to be anything special (however the homemade jalapeño ranch is amazing), but I give higher marks for service and ambiance. We stopped in after the spring game and it was such a fun atmosphere with a lively crowd of husker fans, students and more. We were initially told the wait would be close to 40 minutes but we're sat within 20. From there, our waitress was attentive, friendly and timely, which can be a challenge with an extra 60k in the area for the game. The haymarket district is such a great area you can't help but have a good time and buzzard Billy's adds to the great atmosphere. read more

One of my favorite restaurants. I am not an "expert" on what Cajun is like since I grew up in the midwest, but I would have a hard time finding something to criticize about Buzzard Billy's. Portion sizes are large, food is great, service is good and prices are reasonable for what you get. If you feel like something different, give them a try. read more

I really wanted to like this place. This was where we ladies went for dinner on the night of my bachelorette party (it was super low key, and the guys had already claimed Lazlo's). The service was ok - it was a kid from New England who was there for school, so at least we had something in common. He messed up my drink order (which was also made improperly - seriously how hard is it to make a dirty martini?), and forgot about my food. I had the jambalaya (when it eventually came out), and it was all right. I've had better. The meat bits in it were small, and few and far between, and it didn't have that cajun kick I was looking for. My friends had better luck with their pasta and burgers and veggies...one was a vegetarian, and they were super accommodating to her. It's pretty hard to screw up pasta and steamed veggies, though. I'd go somewhere else if given the choice, but overall it was ok. read more

Years ago we asked a friend what he wanted for his birthday. When his answer was armadillo eggs, I knew I had to try this restaurant. By the way, whoever thought of cramming jalapenos and cream cheese inside bacon wrapped chicken should receive a Nobel Peace prize. A go to place when we lived down the street from here, craving pangs often visit us while we are in Kansas City. There are great things on the menu and there are good things on the menu. The only thing that is not my favorite is the etoufee. However, too my faves. The afore mentioned eggs, with the Rasta Pasta. We've tried to duplicate it, it's some sort of jalapeno encrusted chicken with a cream sauce to die for. It is SPICY! I also love the po' boys with Louisiana hot sauce and my husband sticks with the popcorn chicken salad and the jambalaya. The fried gator is fun for something different. The prices are reasonable but if you're on a budget attend crappy bear night. They boast 70's prices on appetizers that night as well. I love the decor and I miss this place. This was my first time going to buzzard Billy's. My wife and I spent the dinner with another couple. I thought the food was prepared very well. I ordered blackened catfish it was grilled and it was very well done. The others ordered fried catfish. And they were pleased as well. I rarely, if ever, consider writing a review for a restaurant, but my experience at Buzzard Billy's was poor enough that I decided to write one. I went in with a friend on a Sunday evening and found the place nearly empty. While there is outdoor seating, we opted to sit inside due to the brutal Nebraska heat. We were seated promptly, but had to wait several minutes before a server came to our table. This confused us because there seemed to be a lot of staff on that evening (at least 10 working front house). Furthermore, the staff seem uninterested in taking our table, with most of the servers goofing around with the bartender (throwing cups and limes at each other). Eventually, the hostess went over and reminded them that there was a table that needed to be served and a waiter begrudgingly walked over. The menu was emblematic of the aforementioned staffing problems. There was an overwhelming amount of text on each page that was further crowded be the inclusion of little jokes and comments that accompanied each meal description. After pouring over mountains of text, I was able to uncover what the restaurant actually specialized in: Cajun/creole southern comfort food (typical of Louisiana). All the staples one would expect were offered, plus a decent beer selection. I opted for the signature Moscow mule that ended up being underwhelming. On the recommendation of our waiter, I ordered the "chicken czarina". It consisted of a fried chicken breast over rice, covered in a Cajun gravy sauce and shrimp. The "gravy" had no flavor, and the fat had begun to separate by the time the food arrived, creating a thin layer of film on top of the entire dish. Furthermore, the "gravy" made the rice and chicken soggy, giving the entire meal a texture (and taste) akin to pig slop. For the first time in my life, I had to salt my food at a restaurant, but clearly the chicken czarina was beyond saving. Throughout the meal, not only did we have to listen to the continued shenanigans from the wait staff (still throwing limes back and forth with the bartender), but we were constantly bombarded by the eyesore that is the decor of Buzzard Billy's. In hindsight, the decor alone should have been a red flag for me, but I like to stay optimistic. The walls are splattered with old license plates and various signs and props that are made to look old and rustic, giving the whole thing a tacky feel. When you go to a restaurant and there is genuinely photos and signs on the walls that have been there for dozens of years, that's a good sign. However, Buzzard Billy's is not genuine. It's not satire. It's not flattery. It's just bad. We left feeling that we had overpaid for something that wasn't even mediocre. Our waiter was even surprised that we left a tip, worrying me that he is used to getting none. It's not his fault though, it's the restaurant's. I think this place would be fine for large families with a lot of kids as it seems like the menu and atmosphere can accommodate that, but if you enjoy good food and are looking for a gem in Lincoln, this is far from. Don't go to Buzzard Billy's. Within a few blocks, there are several restaurants that are much better and more inviting. read more

We have always enjoyed Buzzard Billys menu but because of staff we are giving 1 star. This was the first time since Covid that we went to eat at a restaurant in Lincoln. I asked if we could eat outside. Emma said it would be 35 mins due to the kitchen. I thought that was odd as there was open tables inside and outside, but thought ok. While waiting few mins for my husband to park, several other families came in. Emma told them itd be an hour and they all left to go eat somewhere else. My husband nicely asked if we could sit outside? She said to just sit? Yes with a very disrespectful attitude. My husband said he was just asking, thinking we dont mind waiting but if we could sit outside and enjoy the weather. But she had such a terrible attitude she could of cared less. My husband asked for the manager and she snotty said go ahead hes right there! So we left to eat somewhere where we were appreciated for the business. As business owners, we were absoluelty shocked to see 5 sometimes 6 staff members just hanging and standing around the front. Maybe if the kitchen was so behind they should of gone in back to help and not lose so much business as we saw leave. With Covid all we hear is how restaurants have been hurt so much, yet when you have customers coming to soend their hard earned money and to be turned away and treated so rude. Emma seemed to care more about her 2 inch names that took so long just to enter my name. I think BB should be concerned because one person can take down a good business. As soon as we left we got an alert that our table was ready. They only did that as we left as it was not the full 30 mins. I don't know why I thought that this place could do creole and Nawlins food, just because it's in the hippest part of the city? Nope, did not rescue it. Someone needs to go to New Orleans and learn gumbo. It was bland, here was literally no broth but a "gumbo paste" thrown in top of shrimp, crawfish and sausage and rice. No veggies and definitely no okra and no hot sauce could rescue or cure it. Neither of us finished it. It wasn't even the right color! Ack ack ack But then my standards are higher after 4 years of college in New Orleans?? still... if you can't get gumbo it doesn't speak well for the other dishes. The chicken was topped with cole slaw, Creole honey mustard, jalapeno bacon and Jalapeno Muenster cheese. Sounds weird but all of the flavors just meshed. I have to say I was very impressed. This is not normally the type of place I would visit. I'm a steak guy. But, I am deffinitely going back to Billy's. We went with another couple who recommended it. We shared 2 apps. One was the gator strips and the other was the Armadillo eggs. Both were good, I really liked the gator. I had the shrimp creole and was very surprised how much I liked it and how it filled me up. One thing I was worried about was that normally seafood sometimes leaves me still hungry... Well, not here. The portion was huge, I even had a bit left over. It tasted very fresh and had just enough seasoning for me. One of the other things that surprised me was how much my wife liked it. She's not normally a fan of overly spicy or seasoned foods. She loved this place and wanted to go back the following week. When we return, I will likely try one of the sampler dishes to get a taste of everything. read more

This place was amazing, the food had incredible flavor form the Gator fingers to the creamy artichoke dip omg yum!!! I got the Rasta pasta and added shrimp and loved it. My hubby got the Gumbo with the spicy links and blackened chicken with red beans and rice which was so delectable, and that says a lot because he is picky we both enjoyed this place man, we will be back. My husband and I were in town for a Husker football game and accidentally walked into here....thought we were going to Brewsky's, but we ended up so happy! So my expectations are generally pretty low when there's something happening at the Bank and it's a holiday. So I was completely impressed with Buzzard Billy's tonight. I had a Po Boy and the hubs had red beans and rice. Both dishes came out fast, hot and fresh. The red beans and rice didn't look like Alpo dog food like it does at other places. It was delicious and had a nice spice to it. My Po Boy was equally as appealing. Fresh peppers, mushrooms, sausage and cheese. Perfectly balanced and spicy. Armadillo eggs are oh so good. Racquetball sized bites of heaven. The infamous rasta pasta has that dirty hot flavor and plenty of residual heat. It is a little wet, but the damn sauce is so tasty you don't mind and you can sop up the extra with a slice or two of bread. Buzzard Billy's is the best restaurant in Lincoln. I have spent many a Birthday, Graduation celebration, and just a night out with friends at this place. The atmosphere makes this place unique, between it's over-the-top decor and the loud, open dining area, it's just great. And if it's nice outside, eat out on the patio and watch people walk around downtown Lincoln by the Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Haymarket. I almost always order the alligator, but have occasionally ordered the blackened chicken and the jambalaya. All are great. They have excellent gumbo and other traditional cajun sides. The only thing on their menu I wasn't pleased with was their burger, but they aren't a burger joint. There are tons of places in Lincoln to get a good burger, Buzzard Billy's is a cajun place. Whenever I return to Lincoln, if I have time, I try to find my way downtown for Buzzard Billy's. It's that good. read more

We arrived on a busy night and agreed to the wait, sitting on the benches in the waiting area in the first set of doors. After almost an hour, we checked on our status, and the hostess said "yeah, we couldn't find you". Our buzzer was apparently broken. But no one checked in their own waiting area.
