We have nothing but good things to say about the Buzzardball Summer Camp! My neighbor recommended the camp for my basketball loving son and I am so glad they did! This camp is amazing! It is so well organized and every single one of the coaches are so encouraging and enthusiastic! Iy is a family run business and the genuine love they have for the kids and the sport is so apparent. They learn the kids names in the first day and that makes a huge difference when coaching them. I am so impressed with how they teach the kids all the skills they need while fostering the love of basketball in a fun and safe environment. We just signed up for our third week and already know this is what we will be doing next summer too. So glad we found this camp and will be back every year! read more

I feel that this league does not care about the safety of children. One of the girls on our team was accosted by one of the parents in the stands. This information was brought up to Steve. Not only was the parent not reprimanded, he was then allowed to move up to coaching. I worry about putting my kids in a league that allows parents to bully young children. read more

Safety is NOT a priority here. Very very disappointed with this camp. Having a younger child/ preschooler here was downright scary. So much in fact that I (and at least two other families I know) pulled our 4-5 year olds out early. Please read all of below to hear about our experience. Note: Before you even get to camp you get a typical waiver for injuries and covid. This waiver did not state anything about posting our children's pictures online, or using it in BuzzardBall media. Nothing about food/snacks. And no itinerary/schedule. 1st day- This location has a large gym with some parking around the sides of the building off Bradshaw and Old Placerville Rd. You walk up to one door, go through a room with a table, and then walk into the gym area. On the 1st day, there was a check in to see that your kid came, and then it's just a bunch of kids (over 70 in fact) that are just playing. Ok- that was fine. We get her set up with a ball and tell her to go play. When we go to pick up, we find out from another parent that she was at the door by the parking lot waiting for us- unsupervised. 4 year old kid, no one knows where she is, and she could have just wandered out of the building at any time! That parent never came back, should hVe followed suit. 2nd day- this time at drop off, no one is checking in. No one even knows our daughter is there.. but we have heard such good things about this place we put on a brave face, and leave our girl with a basketball on the court. No coach gathering kids, no one (again) even paying attention to drop off. Actually the coaches all seemed to highschool kids who were more preoccupied with playing ball than coaching. When we go to pick up.. we cant find her. Looking on the court, shes not there.. we start looking for someone to ask- but all the coaches are in the court, and there is no one around the sidelines to help. I start walking towards the bathrooms and see my daughter, on the floor, drawing on one of the waiver forms with a pen. Another parent (separate from the 1st day) came up to me and said "oh good you're here! Your daughter has been trying to leave (out of the wide open doors, with no supervision) to look for you!" What?! Why is no one there with her? I look around, no one who works here even knew that was happening. So this time I wait to talk to Steven. I follow him and ask him is everything ok with our daughter in this camp because every day we have come she is not playing basketball, she is trying to leave out of the doors? Steven says "oh shes preschool. Totally normal- don't worry she's participating" and then someone else pulls him aside. Ok- im going to write him an email. I wrote him about our concerns with check in and check out, with the doors being open, and whether we should stay with our kids with them being so young. He wrote back and assured me, "the doors will be closed". Ok.. 3rd day- drop off. No check in, but doors are closed. We leave. My husband picks up and said when he got there, again she was off to the side, not on the court. No adult around, and she is eating a big bag of Cheetos. He asks her "where did you get those?" "A lady brought them for me with her card" He asked if it was one of the coaches- she said no. Looking around there is only a vending machine, and he assumes someone bought them there? Again- no one was there to even ask whats going on. He leaves with our daughter, pretty upset. When she gets in the car she says "here daddy I got these for you" and hands him two rocks! Where did you get these??? She said when they went outside for lunch?! - what lunch?? We weren't notified the kids were being fed - what are you feeding them? - we weren't asked about allergies or anything - why in the WORLD are you taking kids outside to eat?? You cant even keep an eye on them in an enclosed area, let alone outside where there is no seating. - If you aren't taking kids outside, then how did my daughter get rocks? At that point there were too many red flags. Safety on all levels. Zero communication. We never went back after the 3rd day. We still have no idea who was giving her food. Steven probably has no idea we even stopped showing up. And I have scared myself so bad thinking how EASY it is for literally anyone to walk inside, grab a kid and leave. And no one would ever know. No. One. I hear amazing things about this place for older kids, but please please please do not go here for anyone younger than 6/7. He really shouldn't even be offering this to younger children. And in my opinion, no kid under the age of 18 should be dropped off somewhere that doesnt even have check in/check out, designated guardians, or approved picks ups. Just so scary. read more

My son has been going to Buzzardball since he was five years old. It has been the best experience for him. It gave him confidence, teambuilding, And loving the game. He is now 14. He has been to all the camps his summer camps his winter camps his big basketball leagues. I recommend this for every mother or father that's looking for a great league to teach your kids. It's so much more than just a game. it also teaches others how to treat others in the world, how to care about your teammates how to care about yourself and love God!! Thank you Mr. Buzzard for everything you taught my son we will miss you ! Ashton is now going to be a freshman next year and when he starts driving, he is looking forward to helping be a team helper. read more

My daughters have played for Buzzardball for several years now. Buzzardball is rated one of the top basketball leagues in all of Sacramento. My daughters have played in many leagues and by far this has been one of the best ones. Steve Buzzard is a True professional and knows how to run his league. Your son or daughter will truly have a memorable experience playing basketball here and most of all he/she will have tons of fun! Most games are played at Sacramento State Hornets Nest gym, St. Michael's or Jesuit high school. I can't think of any three better facilities for some good basketball!! Can you? I wish I could give a 10-star review for our camp experience. My son loves sports, but has always been very competitive- both within himself and with his peers & it's been difficult (so far) to teach him sportsmanship first, then mastering his skill second (he is 6, after all :). After only 3 days in this camp, he came home and kept taking about how basketball "is meant to be fun & is just a game"... that "it doesn't matter how many points you score but that you play hard and cheer your teammates on". He had a JOY for the game that I've never seen before. He's matured as an athlete *so* much in just a matter of days, I can't wait to see what the rest of our weeks there will do for him. I'm truly blown away. Steve is amazing and has the absolute best energy. He makes every aspect of camp fun and engaging- for both the kids and the parents. No detail is spared- From a constant stream of social media postings on what the kids are doing, to photos for the parents to take home, and fun & prizes for the kids. AMAZING EXPERIENCE. Buzzardball summer camp is the greatest, energetic & positive summer camp you've never imagined. My daughter had barely dribbled a ball prior to this camp. At the end of day one she was over the top excited about basketball and the week ahead. Steve does an amazing job with keeping the energy high with his DJ background there is always music playing. With his sports commentator background he's the live game announcer. Want to get a glimpse of what it's like for your kid to be there? No problem, there are frequent Facebook Live Streams. I am just so impressed with the Buzzardball basketball camp, including the "Assistant Coaches" who are all college or high school athletes. I especially love watching Assistant Coach Toph who is coaching my son (7yo who has multiple disabilities) and my daughter (3yo, typically developing) right now - Toph is so supportive, has off-the-charts enthusiasm and energy, and also the right amount of firm directive to keep children engaged and following what they're supposed to be doing. Also, I appreciate how Coach Buzzard runs the camp: it's the most/best organized camp I've ever seen, the messages/lessons they teach the children go beyond just sports (how refreshing to hear a message of inclusion before my son even started the camp; awesome job teaching that, yes, there are winners and losers, but how we conduct ourselves as either is important; and "it's just a game!"), the skills they are learning, and how incredibly FUN it is. Coach Buzzard brings amazing energy himself, and the kids love how he runs the camp like it's the NBA or top-notch college basketball. You have never experienced a basketball camp like this!!! I could go on and on! When my children are old enough, we'll be looking into Buzzardball Winter Junior NBA league. I just wanted to say what a wonderful camp Buzzardball is. It was our first time participating and it was such a great experience. My son was sooo happy all week playing his favorite sport and I was more than impressed with how organized the camp was, the amount of communication each day from Steve himself and the excitement and effort that Steve personally puts in to know each camper and make it fun for them. The week was run so smoothly and I was actually sad when the week was done. My son enjoyed it sooo much and can't wait to come back in July. I couldn't have been more thrilled with our second season of Buzzardball, My child had a fantastic experience, was challenged at times and was successful in others. And most importantly, she learned important life skills like teamwork, working hard, and keeping perspective (recognizing that it's "just a game"). This was my first year as head coach, and this was a wonderful experience as well. Steve Buzzard works tirelessly to ensure that coaches have access to the practice day and location that works best with their schedule. In addition, the practices and games were incredibly smooth. Steve has suggestions for websites with practice plans, and provides tools to ensure even playing time amongst the youngsters. It's incredibly rewarding on many levels, including being able to spend more time with my child, and positively impacting the lives of many children. I would recommend Buzzardball (both season and summer camps) to children of all ages. The lessons they learn cannot be duplicated in a different setting, and just as importantly, it's great exercise and helps to form lifelong healthy habits. read more

My 2 children were going to play in his basketball league. I paid for both of them and then my daughter didn't tryout. I spoke to Steve, he said he had my check and he would rip it up and I should just replace it with a check for $165. He cashed both checks and I have been trying to get a refund for years. read more

Best camp, no basketball experience necessary! My girls started going before their kinder and 2nd grades, and go back every year. First of all, I just want to say that there is NOTHING quite like Buzzardball! I have reffed in several youth basketball leagues, and there's always a level of seriousness, a feeling like the adults are reliving the past through their children and becoming too much a part of the game themselves. A lot of arguing between the adults, and the children pick up some bad habits form them. There is absolutely NOTHING like that here at Buzzardball! Steve Buzzard does a great job by personalizing it by remembering names and using them frequently, getting on the microphone to deliver play by play as the activities happen over the top of the upbeat music that serves as a sort of summer camp soundtrack. Both of my young sons enjoy going to Kings games and shooting some hoops, but they weren't basketball crazy, until now. After playing in Buzzardball, they have caught the bug! Buzzardball fosters a love for playing the game for the fun of it, and that's the best part. I could care less if my boys are the best players in the area, but I want them to have fun and love the game. That's what they got from Buzzardball and they have a basketball home for their childhood. I'm so happy there is a league/summer camp for them like this. Thank you Steve Buzzard! read more

My son has been in Buzzardball since age 5 and BEGS me to sign up for every possible minute of it... camp sessions and regular season. It is his absolute favorite thing to do - he is a shy kid and reluctant to do anything except Buzzardball. The entire program is absolutely phenomenal. One highlight for me is seeing the interaction the little kids have with older mentors -- they all come together across ages to foster the most positive team environment imaginable.
