I like the 7941 Fair Oaks Blvd. location better because it's kept very clean compared to the other Carmicheal location at 6314 Fair Oaks Blvd. However I don't understand why the other locations are open longer hours. Especially Friday-Sunday. You would think all the locations would have the same business hours of operation, but the 7941 Fair Oaks Blvd location closes an hour earlier and opens an hour later Monday-Thursday and Friday-Sunday they close two hours earlier. Seems like longer hours on the weekends would be more logical because most people are not working. Another issue is that the pool or jacuzzi seems to be closed due to whatever reasons quite often. Sometimes they are closed for 5 to 10 days or longer. This is an ongoing issue at both Carmicheal locations. These issues are inconvenient and make my recovery process slow or come to a halt at times. Other than that the facilities are adequate. I do recommend In-Shape. The staff is very professional and personable and the majority of the members are down to earth and good people. I've met quite a few members that I really like and respect. I would give 5 stars if it weren't for the issues stated above. read more

$720+ a year for this place? I didn't know lifting your wallet was part of the workout. But hey, they'll spot you on the enrollment fee -- how generous -- and slap you with a credit card charge. I guess fees are their favorite form of resistance training. And this is for the basic package. BASIC. Like, "our dumbbells are just large rocks with duct tape" basic. The gym looks like it's training in bankruptcy. The only thing getting flexed here is your budget. Honestly, I walked in and thought the equipment was part of a Crossfail course. Half the machines are on recovery day, the mats are stickier than a protein shake left in a hot car, and I swear the treadmill tried to run away from me. This place is a total rep-off. I don't know how they're still open unless they're deadlifting cash directly from the 10 members keeping the lights on I'd say "good luck staying open," but they'll probably charge a $49 sarcasm fee. Staff are very friendly and manager is responsive. They are great! Efforts are made and I see that. I think there are some issues that are bigger than the manager/staff. I received a message saying I was going to get charged the extra annual fee so they can update the facilities they purchased. This drives me nuts but, I don't know. What I am upset about is that I did not see anything about working on the 6314 Fair Oaks Blvd location. The sauna needs to be gutted and redone. I have been in several In Shape saunas and this one is by far the worst. There is rot, stains, it smells, I saw a cockroach in there one day. It is bad! They do try to keep it clean but it needs to be redone. I did not want to mention any of this but I was extremely disappointed when I did not see this location on the list of locations they are going to be working on. Maybe that was a list of work that has been done but I don't think so. Also, I can't speak for the mens locker room but the womans needs a deep cleaning, paint, change out stains on walls at sink. They try to keep it up but it needs more than just the day to day pick up/cleaning. They also don't have many mats, it is odd. It is like this club got left behind. Mats are needed so people don't slip after showering, getting out of pool, etc.. In other clubs I go to someone would come in a few days a week and scrub the showers, bathrooms, locker room. It seemed like it was someone other than in house staff. They very well could do that, I am only there when I am there. I could be off base and it happens but, it does not seem like it. Well, where to actually start. The heart monitors on the stationary bikes rarely if ever work properly if at all. They discontinued the TV stations that I like to watch. Oh, and they raised the dues! So, they rarely fixed broken equipment and also raise the dues. Does that make any sense? It would be much different if they ever fixed anything that breaks. I report it, and nothing ever gets done. I just signed up on OnePass and today was my second day using the pool. U fortunately the pool was littered with leaves and other tree debris that I literally had to push away while swimming. I was there on Tuesday where there were leaves on the bottom of the pool but nothing on the surface. Someone needs to see that the pool is cleaned every day, especially considering there are trees on two sides of the pool. Today was inexcusable. read more

My friend and I went to this gym tonight after a long week. We love going to the pool and then jacuzzi. We were here earlier this week and had a great experience. It's not our usual gym, but it was the alternative to the other Carmichael gym, since the pool there is getting remodeled or fixed. What we don't understand is why the pool closes 30 minutes before the actual gym closes?? 15 minutes, seems reasonable to get people moving. 30 minutes to closing a staff comes out to get everyone out of the aquatic area. Today though this staff person comes out tells "Everyone, the pool is closed, YOU YOU OUT!" As she waves her hand and the 2nd staff person stood by the door. This is not professional. It doesn't matter the age or if possible issues in the past to get people out, not a good approach. Also with summer beginning, the management should reconsider the hours of operation, open later and close later in particularly on a Friday and weekend. read more

The company does not care about its customers. My spouse turned 65 last year and I asked the office manager for a senior discount. The corporate office said no to my request even though it is their policy to give a senior discount. I contacted the corporate office regarding this issue twice and got no response from them. After they bought out Family Fitness, they have shown that they only care about money without providing good customer service. Greed over customer service to paying members. I've been coming to this gym for a month now and love it. I haven't been in a gym in over a decade and after two kids knew it was time. I had so much anxiety over returning to a gym and being out of shape and not knowing what I needed to work on. The staff are fantastic and I feel so comfortable here. Every night monday - thursday I have noticed there is some guy in the basketball court hosting a youth basketball clinic that i'm 99% sure is not provided or sponsored by cal fit. There is about 30 kids all over the entire court and basketballs flying everywhere, They take up the entire court for about 3 hours every night at PRIME GYM HOURS, where there is no room for adults to run games or even shoot around. Also pretty sure most of the kids in there don't have a membership. The staff just got used to them coming in on a regular basis I guess. It is ridiculous the fact that there are multiple people myself included paying monthly to not be able to use a court provided by the gym that should be accessible to all. Pretty sure there also used to be a rule that children were not allowed in the court or even on the workout equipment but now the whole gym is like a playground. I have been forced to workout and play basketball at other In-Shape locations because of how unorganized and chaotic this gym is. If I could give 0 stars, I would. read more

I come from Natomas to come here, love this location mostly because of kids club, sorry not sorry but Natomas kids club not my favorite, This location completely opposite, every time I come in Lordes greets my daughter talks to her like the little human she is, if she is having a rough time leaving my side she holds her, makes her feel comfortable. This location has age appropriate toys for the ages, including bubbles which my baby loves, it is very welcoming and worth the drive for me. The gym itself is fine, and the workers are nice. But the situation where the hot tub, pool, and/or steam room are always broken has gotten out of control. Today I went to one location and the hot tub and steam room were both closed, so I went to another location and the entire pool and hot tub were shut down. This has gotten a lot worse under the new management. They are clearly not dedicating the resources needed to maintain and repair these amenities, but they are still charging their customers to use them every month. They are going to start losing customers if they don't turn it around, especially with the new gym opening on Fair Oaks. read more

Our family loves this location, it is the best if you have little children. We like that theres a separate kids pool 2-3ft deep, makes pool time with kids a lot easier. Their kidz club hours are also the most extensive compared to many other locations; and makes it possible for us to get a normal workout in before 8pm. My husband and I have been consistent with our workouts for 1 year now and feel more healthy and fit than before. I think we get a lot for our membership with calfam. read more

This was the club I used until the Watt location opened, which is nearer to me. However, that club became such a mess - dirty locker room, and dirty pool. I mainly use the pool and today I swam at the Fair Oaks and Marconi location. What a difference! Pool was clean! Locker room was being scrubbed when I arrived and they were still finishing up when I got out of the pool. I happily used the shower, which didn't smell of mildew, didn't have hair on the floor and didn't have little flys in it. Won't be going back to Watt even though I have to drive a few miles farther. I don't post recommendations very often but I want to say that James Murphy is an excellent trainer. He listens to his clients and is observant to their strengths and weaknesses. I was experiencing some pain while golfing and he was able to isolate the problem areas. He certainly pushed me, but I trusted him. I returned to the golf course with no problems. So I have loved this specific location for a while. I've tried out several different locations when they were still CalFit, but I love the set up and the staff at this location in particular. All the trainers are great, but Katie is the one I've worked with and she's amazing. 10/10 I recommend working with her. The reason I'm giving a 3 star rating is because with the company change they got rid of my favorite part of the week - which was the small group training. Katie led such an awesome training session each week. As someone who cannot afford one on one personal training, this was something I always really looked forward to. I will continue going to this location, because I do really like it, but I really hope they bring back the small group training. I'm not able to pay for personal training, but I will happily pay extra for that. If they do end up bringing it back, I'd be happy to change my review to 5 stars. read more

Gosh it's gotten to this point with their management/ corporate office. Gym lacks any proper equipment (all old and broken 50% of the time. Staff usually has an attitude and they close very early compared to most gyms in the area. Besides that, they have these HORRENDOUS contracts that they don't even make clear. Was set up online with a account and went in to cancel as I was getting a better gym. Person canceled with no issues and life went on regularly. 2 months later I get charged a $200 cancellation fee, and the "supervisor" at Cal fit essentially told me their is nothing we can do for you and we notified you of this (2 MONTHS LATER). This gym is a joke, go to 24 hour fitness they are cheaper and even their staff is nicer. read more

I've reported before that there was a roach infestation in the showers and in the sauna but worker seemed to not really give a dam. Not too long ago I decided to just check underneath the sauna bench for roaches since I saw one before... this is the perfect place for them to breed since it's this dirty underneath the sauna bench. Wouldn't be surprised if there were mold too. Saunas are very popular at gyms and this is where people like to be after a workout but imagine coming into this shit and inhaling all of this, potentially causing respiratory issues. Jordan Black and Maria Ramirez at the East Arden location are extremely professional and go above and beyond to pay attention to their member's needs. With limited staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, I understand their jobs are demanding, but these two continue to exceed my expectation. Spoke to Kathleen at the corporate office and she was no help as well. I asked to speak to higher management and was refused. After reading other reviews, I see this is a common horrible business practice by CalFit. I reported them to BBB. I am not the only one that has. I had 30 days to cancel and I did. The rep that answered this is lying. I will not be giving any more of my personal info, and will not be paying. So I have been getting steadily harassed by this company since I went in to check out the pocket/Greenhaven location in December '17. I've told them numerous times I've joined a much more affordable gym that doesn't smell like mold and the 70s. They keep calling and calling and calling. Not just from that location- from any location. Just now I got a call from Sam at this Carmichael location- so I feel fine leaving this place a one star review since they feel alright harassing me on a holiday. I originally signed up at the other CalFit on fair oaks,but their child care closes for lunch and this location doesn't. Their child care area is big and they have a kids maze structure that they can climb on. The pool area is really big with a 3feet ONLY area, hot tub and than the bigger pool. They do swim lessons at this location. There's a cardio theater which is really cool to watch a good movie while your working out. I gave 4 because majority of the equipment seems to be tightly fit with all the machines smack dead right next to each other. Seems like an overflow with very little space. Also so the sauna area is very small and can easily get overcrowded. Otherwise than that, I love the smoothie bar and everything else they have to offer read more

This location is so disgusting and dirty. The only reason I continue to go is for my childs swim lessons because the swim teacher is awesome. I was rinsing my child off in the showers after swim and brushed against the curtain. A roach jumped on my neck... so we don't rinse off in showers there anymore. Also the childcare is terrible. The first day we went I was told they separate the children from three below in one area, and four and up in a different area. My child is more mature so I asked if she could possibly to the four and up side. I was told no which I totally respect. But after initial time they primarily kept all the children together in the big kid area? In addition to that my child who is very social, has been in many childcare settings, and loves people- complained that the staff were mean to her (I clarified it wasn't another child). Sure this is subjective, she's a kid, but never has she said that about anyone before. After that I made an effort to peek in periodically to see what's going on, & the next time we went in this gym the windows into the childcare area were covered in 'art' to keep parents from being able to see inside. Totally rubs me the wrong way. Will not be having my daughter go again. I've been to other cal fit locations and childcare in others has been great. I'd avoid this one at all costs. read more

I've used this CFF location due the COVID closure/restrictions of the regular clubs I visit. Super friendly staff, I got to know a few by name, each check-in process to workout under the tent in the parking lot and simple reservation process to use the pool. I found the pool at this location to be the least popular in terms of being booked from open to close (yay!). There is a 15 minute rule that if the lane remains open 15 minutes after a members scheduled time, the lane becomes available for another member. All of the fellow members I've met have been very personable. On a few occasions I arrived early to wait for my pool lane and members will share they are exiting early and I can begin my swim early, or advise how long another lane has been vacant which is very nice. I have not worked out on the inside but the vibe is very chill whether members are working out solo, with a workout partner, or family workouts. read more

We used to go to this gym regularly. Due to covid I called to cancel my membership. I was still changed. I called again and spoke to an employee who said they cancelled my account. I was not charged for August so I thought everything was ok. Well now I see that I have been billed for September! On top of this their cancellation website is inactive and instead the give you a number to call. When I called the number and selected membership cancellation there is a recording that says "not accepting messages" and hangs up on me. I will be disputing these charges with my bank. read more
