Corner table by the huge seagrape tree. We had appetizers, soup of the day, and salad. Appetizers: Calamari steaks Escargots They served very ample and fresh spinach salad, Caesar salad or house salad. Soup of the day was a chicken tomato pesto soup. Thick and hearty. Dinner entrees were: lamb and lobster, Teriyaki steak and shrimp and teriyaki steak and lobster. If you go as a couple, you could share a main entree. That's only my opinion. This is my first time to dine at Buzz's although I have dined at Buzz's when they were also at Pearl City . I must say it's a gem and ambiance here near the beach is great. Could tell it was a very popular spot and people kept coming in but luckily we made reservations. The menu was not very extensive but it had a good variety of beef ...chicken .. vegan and seafood . I ordered the Teriyaki Flap steak 6oz with rice/vegetables and my friend ordered a Teri burger not on the menu but the waitress said it could be done as only had a Teriyaki chicken burger . My Teriyaki flap steak was okay (little on the dry side) but was tasty. On the other hand ..my friend's Teri burger was not what she expected as the burger was grilled but Teri sauce on the side . So was not like a grilled Teri burger which was marinated in Teri sauce . ( server did not mention this) The server was very nice and offered us a birthday treat ... Vanilla ice cream in a brownie in honor of my birthday. It was very nice to sit and dine comfortably and chat without being rushed. I was back at Buzz's for an impromptu lunch and ordered their version of a Caesar but with added chicken. I just wanted to note, for anyone who cares about such things, that the chicken they used is thigh meat. I am not necessarily a fan of non-white meat on salads. And I never even think to ask. The meat was freshly cooked though, and was certainly acceptable. The salad itself (Romain lettuce) was also fresh and delicious and not from a bag. So high marks for that. We walked into Buzz's on a Sunday around noon during Mother's Day weekend. The place was absolutely packed -- buzzy in every sense of the word. Families hovered around the hostess stand hoping for a table, conversations floated through the air like music, and somewhere beneath it all you could feel the pulse of a place that had been feeding people and creating memories for generations. "There was a guy, his name was Buzz, a greater guy there never was..." Two haole boys and a haole girl from Oxnard, California stood in the middle of it all -- directly across the Pacific from our own modest beach town known as the Strawberry Capital of the World. Farming communities understand something important: the sacred relationship between people, food, and land. Buzz's felt like it understood that too. The sun-kissed, freckled-faced hostess greeted us warmly. The wait? About an hour. Not surprising. Places with soul usually require patience. Knowing my way around restaurants, I told her the best seat in the house is almost always the bar. That's where the stories live. That's where you meet the people making the magic happen. To my surprise, she smiled and welcomed us in. And there it was -- the perfect bar. Open, timeless, alive with character. Across from us sat an elegant woman in traditional Hawaiian attire, facing the ocean, staring through the front windows like she had done it a hundred Sundays before. She had it right - positioned on the best side of the bar. You don't turn your back to the view of the ocean, so we sat next to her. The room hummed with warmth and familiarity. It didn't feel transactional. It felt communal. "Seat da people, spock da chicks, Buzzy always got his pick." Then came the bartender -- commanding the room with charisma, warmth, and effortless aloha. Her energy moved through the restaurant like a tide. Every server who approached her bar carried away drinks and a little piece of her spirit. You could feel it. The laughter became contagious. The hospitality felt genuine. I wasn't drinking that day, but she kept the non-alcoholic daiquiris flowing with the same care and enthusiasm as every cocktail she served. Somewhere between the ocean breeze, the company, and the aloha spirit, I started questioning whether my drink secretly had alcohol in it. Maybe that's just what happens when people make you feel welcome. And then there was the food. The Teriyaki Steak was exceptional -- tender enough to cut like butter, rich with flavor, perfectly balanced alongside rice and vegetables. My cousin ordered the Fish Burrito and couldn't stop talking about it. By the end of the meal he declared it the best thing he'd eaten on the island. My uncle found this cute spot while we were sightseeing the island. The cutest and cutest little restaurant. Family lunch with cousins. The ambience is one of "fine beach dining". Nautical decor. Has a local lore of the "best steak house in town". I ordered an Arnold Palmer that was very good along with the fresh fish Burrito. The party shared the steamed artichoke. It was served with course sea salt sprinkles and a mayonnaise based dip sauce. UPDATE: While sitting at the bar waiting until 4:30p, the time we were told we could put our names on the waitlist, the bartender asked us if we wanted any pupus before we got seated for dinner. I told him we hadnt put our names on the list yet, but he said the hosts were going to set us up with a table on the inside (FYI-it was way too hot outside). I was surprised, since the dude host made such a spectacle of himself by dictating where we could and could not sit for dinner. But I'm glad the head hostess spoke to him to rectify the debacle and accomodated us with a table at a lovely hideaway location near the entrance. Although, after all that, I did feel a bit awkward and it felt like a hostile environment, since NO ONE, not even the dude host or head hostess, even bothered to come by to apologize AT ALL the entire time!! I mean, who wouldn't feel that way after being treated like 3rd class customers from the get go?! Honestly, I don't even know why we stayed, but my husband was craving their food. Although, our waitress was awesome, kind, and patient, as we had a bunch of questions, especially since we were confused when she gave us an entire menu consisting of fish selections, only to find out the only fish available that day were the 2 specials mentioned (ahi & branzino). Suggestion: maybe dont even bother providing that fish menu at all, as I'm sure we're not the only ones who felt deceived after viewing the entire thing to finally decide on a fish, then to be told the menu was only examples of the fish types they offer WHEN they actually have them (SMH). After all that, we decided to share a branzino special (no option as a side; only as a meal, but it was oh so ono!). Plus, we each had our own NY steak and prime rib meals, along with soup, salad, bread basket, escargot, their famous teri sticks, and a few drinks. Ohh yah, i know..thats a lot of food for 2 people! But when it comes to steakhouses and good food, we tend to order up and spent btwn $300-$600 for just 2 of us. We love ono food! We're not like the couple across from us who only shared ONE plate (yah, I spied them! Lol) Mind you, at this point, more and more people started arriving and the wait outside was long. But, as for inside...practically EMPTY, even by the time we left, which was 2 hours later! I mean, if a reservation was made a year in advance, chances are there's going to be a lot of cancellations. It took years before Buzz's even accepted credit cards (IYKYK), so maybe they need to look at doing something different, rather than save those empty seats that could've been filled right away. Perhaps model after Haleiwa Joe's (the only other long-standing steakhouse on the Windward side) and their no reservations policy of 1st come-1st served, so guarantee no empty seats waiting on no shows. But until that happens, again Buzz's needs to update their website with correct times, and disclose the fact that 1) they DO take reservations a year in advance, but NOT same day reservations, and 2) if you don't have reservations, beware of the dictator dude host that will give you a choice of ONLY outside seating OR if there's room, at the Bar (literally at the bar counter, because they use the seating in that area for dinner, too), and if you do choose to sit in the bar that is where you will sit for dinner, too; no exceptions! read more

I've been a fan of the kiawe grilled steaks here for well over 15 years. Love the service here because it is always on point with servers showing aloha spirit. The interior has that rustic old-school Hawaii Beachside cottage feel which I really love and reminds me of home. I miss the old Pearl city location, but I'm glad they're still in business. The Prime Rib was sent back immediately after 1st bite to second confirmation bite. Proper Ribeye comes from the center rib section of the cow, whereas a Chuck Substitution comes from the heavily worked shoulder, which is a dishonest practice if you are paying premium menu prices which I believe was $47.00. For this reason alone I personally will never eat here again unless I'm not paying lol. Moving onto the Pesto Pasta the Ono tasted like it was out of the can something that I'd feed my cat. My dinning companion and myself could barley stomach half of it as I write this with a upset stomach. We were comp'd desert which the gelato was nice and the cheese cake was lame. We tipped appropriately because it's not the employees fault on the Prime Rib Scame and Weirdly cooked tuff ono, which I wouldn't be surprised if it was marlin after the Prime Rib aka Chuck! Beware of their Prime Rib!!!!!!!!!! $48.00 The Real Ribeye Location is Cut from ribs six through twelve of the beef rib primal. Marbling, Features heavy, web-like intramuscular fat and the prized spinalis dorsi (the rib cap), which renders down to make the meat rich, buttery, and exceptionally tender under high heat. Price & Expectations, High-end restaurants charge top dollar ($35 to $60+) for this melt-in-your-mouth texture and deep savory flavor.The Chuck Cut which is what I strongly believe I was served is The "Balloney" Swap)The "Chuck Eye,"Confusion comes in when a Sometimes shady or cheap kitchen passes off a chuck eye (the "poor man's ribeye" from the fifth rib where the shoulder meets the rib) as a true ribeye. While a chuck eye has decent beefy flavor and mimics a ribeye's shape, it has tighter muscle fibers, less uniform marbling, and more connective tissue. Standard Chuck is Regular chuck steaks or chuck roasts which come from further down the shoulder. They are dense, tough, packed with connective tissue, and meant for slow braising or stewing--not for a medium-rare sear. My Verdict is Getting a shoulder cut when you order a ribeye means you are getting a cheaper, chewier piece of meat that lacks the luxurious fat rendering of a true rib. If a restaurant tries to gaslight you into thinking a tough, shoulder-muscle piece of stringy chuck is a Prime Ribeye, send it back We all work so hard to take our loved ones out to a nice restaurant especially one so Iconic as Buzz's! I feel really annoyed and slighted about the Prime Rib "Baloney" that was pulled! It Really is too bad because the ambiance is amazing with the puffer fish hanging from the ceiling, lighting, Kailua Beach vibes with the cottage near the shore. The staff is friendly however point of contact could use a refresher course in Aloha and hospitality. Seems like a quick fix could be had with the right leadership but honestly this is criminal! An old-school, timeless local gem that's been around since 1962, The restaurant sits right across the street from beautiful Kailua Beach. Went during lunch time at around 2 pm on a Saturday. It was a little bit of a wait, maybe 20 minutes. Then we were seated inside. They had a special for lunch which was Fish and Chips, so I decided to get that. My friend got the Baby Top Sirloin. We both really enjoyed our meal. The fish and chips were not greasy and perfectly crispy, and had a good sauce and slaw. For dessert, I decided to try the Cocolada dessert. All it really was is vanilla ice cream with a bit of toasted coconut on top and limes to squeeze. It was good but it was ultimately just ice cream. Came with a lot though, and was $9. Our waitress was also super nice and funny. Overall I had a good lunch experience. I will say, I was seated in the back area and there was an excessive amount of flies flying around and kept trying to land on our food. One of the worst experiences we have had at a restaurant and we've been here countless times at night. We came into our reservation on time, when we showed up we were greeted by the host, Chris, who then walked away for a few minutes. He came back with a manager to tell us we couldn't sit down because of cut off sleeves, not a full tank top. We were dressed better than most people there, but we were denied entry unless we put on some stink, old clothes, they said was "freshly washed" but smelled of moth balls and something very stale. As we looked around while making our decision if we would stay or not, we noticed MANY other customers wearing crop tops, no sleeves at all, or straight up stained-dirty-athletic wear. We reluctantly put the shirt on and sat down, but were treated very poorly after that. The servers were all fantastic, however, when we went to the car to change our shirt into a jacket that didn't smell as bad as the shirt they offered us, as we re-entered the establishment, we were met with a really uncomfortable interaction with Kyle and Chris, I believe, who were heard complaining about us not liking the discriminatory policy. Extremely unprofessional and very bad taste. As a Kanaka, walking in and seeing how they treat tourists compared to us, is really sad. These anti-Hawaiian "policies" that they enforce on a case by case basis, are clearly discrimination against kanaka and the people of this aina. Shame on Buzz's and we will never return because of the manager on duty, Kyle or something. Really unprofessional, anti-Hawaiian, and despicable business operation. Will not be coming back to this anti-Hawaiian establishment. I want to reiterate that our server was fantastic, didn't catch her name. The soup had to be sent back because it was cold, but after it came back was one of the best soups I've ever had. I also ordered steak fries and I could tell they would've been really good if they were warm or hot, but they were super thick and I think they didn't get cooked long enough. They didn't ask about them or take them off the check despite not eating them at all. They sat us at a table under an ac that leaked... after letting management know they told us "we know" and that was the end of it. It continued to drip all over us, including our suede shoes. We're staying close to Buzz's so have been there three times in vacation. The first two visits were amazing. Delicious food, amazing service and fun atmosphere. Unfortunately on the third visit we were stuck at a table far back in the bar where it was incredibly noisy. My 6 oz sirloin steak was about 3 ounces and inedible as it was all gristle. I couldn't even cut it. It was obvious it was a poor piece of meat as one side was a sheet of gristle. I don't send food back but should have. The kitchen should have seen it. We'll be back but definitely won't order the sirloin again. read more

We ended up opting into sitting in the "walk-in" section to be seated more quickly, which is just off the parking lot so lacking in ambiance and with diesel fumes from passing cars. Food was pretty good - I think that fish is the way to go. We had the crispy snapper, the fish special for the day, and it was absolutely delicious. I have tried a few different steaks here including the New York, Top Sirloin, and then one of the daily specials. Recommend the Steak first and foremost as well as second place. This past visit, I just asked our server, Shiloh, for any of his recommendations and was not disappointed at all. We started with the Artichoke Surprise which has parm and garlic butter on it. Very very tasty. He recommended the Special which was a New York steak along with asparagus and an amazing black pepper cream sauce. Steak was cooked to perfection. Sauce was amazingly flavorful and balanced. I had the greens/spinach salad before hand which was just the right size, not too big nor too small. Paired with any of their amazing desserts, just an amazing meal through and through. Prices are reasonable for a steakhouse on Oahu (which can easily double in price for lesser quality around Honolulu and Waikiki). Absolute must-go if you're on the east side or heading to Kailua Beach! The calamari steak is perfectly tender, and the lemon butter sauce just melts in your mouth. The warm banana bread pudding with vanilla ice cream is also a must -- I get it every single time! Heather was our waitress last time we went and she was super energetic and upbeat. If you like cocktails -get the Mai Tai or BFRD! There is a 2 drink limit - that's all you need! By the second one I was calling her feather instead of Heather ‍ We dined out doors. Very chill, laid back- directly across the street from Kailua beach. Parking can sometimes be tough, but it's worth it. read more

I love that one can make reservations here. I just get there early in case the parking lot is full which means I need to park across the street at Kailua Beach. But not this time. I scored a space right next to the entrance! Now on to the food. I always get the tender delicious calamari steak. The fresh lemon slice makes it nicely citrus-y and the garlic mash potato is a heavenly accompaniment. The servers are friendly, as usual. And the food came quite quickly. I love seeing the sunset colors across the street. The beach ambience is perfect and a must for out of town guests. read more
