La Mariana Sailing Club is an eclectic restaurant located near to Sand Island and near downtown Honolulu. The menu runs the gamut from burgers to sashimi, fish tacos, ahi, kalua pork and more. The staff is very friendly and does an amazing job of keeping clients happy. The ambiance is the restaurant building itself. Built about 50 years ago, it features tiki statues, tropical plants inside and out, an indoor waterfall and a WWII jeep parked outside. La Mariana's has been made famous by being the setting for the TV series Magnum PI. That can make getting a reservation a bit difficult and parking can be a nightmare. read more

We really love the vibe here. We don't mind sweating a little because the atmosphere and music make it worth it. It's such a fun place to hang out, and when the live band is playing, it's even better. They're interactive, entertaining, and create such a great experience. Unfortunately, the customer service has been consistently disappointing. The bartender has always seemed friendly, but the waitresses have been cold and often come across as rude. We usually want to come here, but the service makes it a hard sell sometimes. We'd love to bring more visiting family and friends here, but it's honestly a 50/50 decision because we never know what kind of service we'll get. The food is decent, but nothing that really stands out. The coconut shrimp and onion rings are both good, and the drinks are definitely a highlight. The piña colada is honestly one of the best we've had. For our family of five, plus two beers and one piña colada, lunch came to about $175 including tip. That's pretty expensive, so we only come on rare occasions. At that price point, we'd expect warmer, friendlier service. We initially gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed we had visited on off days, but after several visits--including this past Friday with many of the same waitresses--we've found the service to be consistently cold and unwelcoming. read more

It was our first time here and we had an amazing time! IMO it's even more of a tiki bar than Dukes out in Waikiki. Got puffer fish and seashells everywhere. Like the performers said "it's the best kept secret on Oahu." Food and drinks were tasty and reasonably priced. They only take reservations for parties of 6 or more (auto gratuity for large parties). We had a party of 4, but we were sat by the host quickly and our server was very attentive. Even though there were only 2 guys playing music. It was a whole performance. Fantastic! Parking can be difficult as they only have a small lot, but you can park on the side of the dirt roads where there aren't any no parking signs. read more

Went for Valentine's Day and everyone loved it! This is a hidden gem right on the water in the harbor. The ambiance is Old Hawai'i at its best. You'll know that the moment you walk up! The service is friendly and the food was as advertised. I had the sashimi and it was just as fresh and wonderful as I read. Our group had the assortment from burgers to beef dips and everyone was happy. Yes, not 5 star dining of course but everything was great! The picture below was the sunset out the window by our table. Surprisingly as a local girl, I had never been to La Mariana sailing club until this year! I was on my high school reunion committee and our reunion was coming up in June. We had planned a full week of events some were sponsored by our school, others were planned by our class. One of my classmates on the reunion committee mentioned this would be a great place to have a Friday night mixer! We scheduled a time to come out here to look over the menu and sample some of the food. It's one of the last few tiki bars in Hawaii. It has an old feel but was really fun! We all enjoyed the indoor decorations. For our Friday night mixer, we bought out the restaurant, got a DJ and had a lot of fun. Service was good, and the bartender was excellent and friendly. The food was hot and tasty, it's not gourmet. It's bar food, but still was good and I enjoyed it. Also had a chance to try some of their margaritas including mango and li hing. You're able to get no margaritas as well. It was a great event and a very memorable Friday night! read more

Second time I've checked out this restaurant a once again satisfied with evening here. Located in an industrial area next to a harbor it's in a somewhat unusual location for a restaurant. That being said the view of boat harbor is beautiful and love the old style Tiki Bar appearance inside and out. It is a bit dark inside but doesn't spoil the ambiance. The service was very good, and our meal came out quickly hot and tasty. We all seem to enjoy our meals and pricing was reasonable and average. We meet here for our monthly Bookclub and it wasn't too noisy to hear one another, which was a good thing. It's a beauty of a restaurant, in regards to its' mid century tiki decor - both inside and out. Utterly fantastic. The bar, the interior land even the outdoor pergola and tikis holding them up. Superb. It is off the beaten path in an industrial area of warehouses, but right on the water by some sailboats - hence the name. We stopped by on a Saturday around noon. It was completely dead. Only another party or two there. Our waitress was... unpleasant, put out and dismissive is how I would describe it. Even going as far to add some snide comments when asking questions about the menu. WTF. She may want to consider that the guests on vacation, patronizing the restaurant are what actually provide her livelihood. The food landed somewhere between average and sub-par. The two cocktails we had ordered were sugary fruity syrupy messes. We kind of wanted to try some other ones, but were honestly so put out by the piss poor attitude of our waitress that we just stopped there, finished what we could of our meal and wanted to leave. I'd imagine the entire experience would have been at least a little better if we had come on a different day when she was off. I'd be willing to try it again sometime, but then again there are so many choices in Honolulu that I don't know if I will bother. Sailed here from Hickam Harbor on an outing, which is an awesome feature. The tiki bar motif on the pier is very fitting and sailing in is much nicer than driving here. I finally made it here to try out after hearing good things for a while. I likes to unique decor and view of the water but it was a bit hot, next time I'll go in the winter I think. The Mai Tai drink was delicious. This was a perfect escape from the airport after I dropped off my bags at check in and left the airport instead of waiting around forever. We needed one last dinner and drinks before we sent ourselves back to the ice cold east coast. My cousin took us here and we were not disappointed. They both got the ahi tuna tacos and I got the coconut shrimp. There were some other things but I can't remember now. It's been more than ten years I visited here. I think last time was,,, I got a request my guest from Japan to come here. This place is famous as "Magnum PI tiki bar". That's mean lots of tourist visit to watch the TV show. Or some tourists post SNS as a hidden hem place you can feel old Hawai'i!? Front of the restaurant space is staff only, so customers have to find a street space(not street parking) or they have some parking spot behind the restaurant. Feels nothing change inside the restaurant (very antique but not dusty old). Here is also "worker shortage" because only two server were working at lunch peak time, so you need a little bit patient to get your table or order or serve. We ordered chips for appetizer that was good. I ordered ahi tacos, that is just right size to kill it. Others ordered, fish & chips, club sandwich, fish burger, and coconuts shrimp from their special. Price is not bad, taste is okay level. Well, it was birthday lunch, so we brought the mini whole cake just little celebrate to uncle. I always felt little concern is it okay to bring dessert when we go to local business restaurants, but every time they said no problem and happy birthday. (Some restaurant staff brought us plates and folks) so there days I had no worries but our waitress said to us NO outside food, we have dessert and no plates and folks provide. (We always bring plates, folks, cake knife, anyway) The way how she told us was little mean, so we all felt WOW. (But uncle was happy he got whole cake by himself! Lol!!) This is a super cute area with a gorgeous view of the boats. We were greeted by a cute tabby out front too. Though advertised online, our waitress told us they did not have a kids menu, leading our 5 year old to eat a la cart off the appetizer menu. The drinks were delicious. I had a virgin Lava Flow (pictured). Our waitress was curt when speaking to us, and didn't bring us waters for about 20 minutes even after we asked. There's no air conditioning so we were very grateful for the breezes through the open windows. However, the flies were numerous. My teriyaki chicken was delicious. I've been to La Mariana numerous times over the years and I love the atmosphere. We met some mainland friends there on Wed afternoon. The parking situation can be challenging depending on when you get there. We had reservations but the restaurant was pretty busy. We started with pupus and a few drinks. The food here was never great and this time it was mediocre. The onion rings were mushy as are the French fries, obviously an inferior frozen product. The spring rolls weren't very good either, another pre frozen dish. Nachos were good as were the huge portion of poke bowl. The fish in the fish and chips were good but not the fries. I would return because they have live music some nights and this might be Oahu's last remaining Tiki Bar. read more

I love the authentic vibe here and the amazing Polynesian carving decorations but after many years of appreciating its ambiance, I am afraid the la Mariana has lost its charm. Th zombie was potent and fine but other assortment of drinks was comparable to Applebees , weak and tasteless. The calamari was some truly awful, made of who knows what but it was NOT calamari......thick tired breaded STICKS and the $22 nachos were pitifully small, uninspired and barely eatable. The dinning room was hot and with no air flow, stifling actually and not a place to linger other than admire the great blow fish and Japanese fishing float lanterns. I friggin LOVE me a tiki bar and this is the Queen of old kitschy Hawaii tiki joints! From the moment you walk on property, you are greeted by plants, bamboo fencing, tiki decor, and you feel like you stepped back in time to 1940. I would almost expect a pinup girl to walk through the front door as I sat at the bar. You might think a place like this would serve overly sugared, silly drinks and mediocre food, but you would be wrong. The cocktails are wicked strong, and two of them will probably have you swaying like a sailor on a ship. The food is also excellent. We got several appetizers and entrées, and then of course dessert. All of it was top notch. The best part was that we went on a Tuesday afternoon because it was a state holiday and I had the day off work. The place was not at all crowded and we felt like we had it to ourselves... This place feels like it was dropped in this location 100 years ago and has not changed one bit. Think full on grass hula skirt, tiki torches, old wooden furniture, gorgeous water views, loud Hawaiian shirts etc. You go for the ambiance, not the food. The food is.... fine. If you are hungry you will find something but that's not the reason you go to this place. You go to just step away from the "normal". Such a classic vibe. Think classic Hawai'i. Tiki bar that's kitschy but not cheesy. It's known to be the last true tiki bar on Oahu. Renovated and reopened in 2022, I am so glad to have finally checked this spot out after hearing so much about it. History lesson: originally opened in Sand Island in the late 1950s by Annette La Mariana Nahinu along side her husband. The current standing establishment originally opened in 1975 after weather destroyed the original structure. Since most tiki bars closed Annette collected the relics from around Oahu, which are displayed around La Marianna. While Annette died in 2008, her tiki bar tradition lives on, transporting you back in time. Walk in and you're immediately immersed in Bali Hai style. Lots of fishing nets, colorful sea-glass balls, old carved tikis, seashell and pufferfish lamps with koa wood tables and rattan chairs. There's even a waterfall inside the restaurant! The sunset views are something else! Serving up classic cocktails (Mai Tai is a must!) and Hawaiian bar food which is simple, no frills, decent but also nothing to write home about. From friends, I've heard the menu has downsized but prices are fair and portions are decent. You come here for the ambiance and stay for the drinks. Live music 7 days/week. Plenty of seating. Service was great! Sure you can drive up to enjoy the establishment but it's also fun to arrive by boat and park at the private marina. La Mariana is always our first stop when we visit Oahu. The drinks are ALWAYS delicious, i've yet to have cocktail here I haven't enjoyed. Solid food within a smaller menu. Fish and Chips were good! 3 pieces of fish and fries. NY Strip Steak Pupu (appetizer) was yummy but for the amount you get it's a bit overpriced at $21. From when we sat down it took around 7 minutes for our server to come to our table, but once she came to introduce herself and take orders, the drinks and food came out reasonably quick. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare, we waited 20 minutes for a spot to open up, and had 3 cars waiting behind us waiting for a spot too. Since it's nestled between factory buildings and private property signs there is no "street parking". If you come around lunch or dinner times, be prepared to have to stake out for a parking spot. Once inside the restaurant, if it's hot outside, expect it to be just as hot inside. There is no AC and in some spots no breeze. We were practically sweating by the end of our meal. This wasn't an issue for us before but figure it just depends on how close you are seated to the outside which we were much farther inside than usual. We continue to love and support La Mariana. It's a beautiful tiki bar, totally casual and family friendly but with such a great atmosphere. Parking and lack of AC can be slightly off-putting but for the experience and great drinks we will continue to come back to this classic when in the area. read more

Hard to find parking and we even got there earlier than Happy Hour. We had a table overlooking the Marina and stayed long enough to watch the sunset.
