This used to be great place for getting parts at reasonable prices, but in the last few years, it's…read morethe last place I try. Between Ebay, Rock Auto and Facebook Marketplace, there are much better alternatives that are cheaper and less hassle. Plus, the attitude that the middle age lady cashier has is plain rude, like this is the last place she wants to be, is the best reason to shop elsewhere. She must be related to the owners, because if she treated customers like this any place else, she would have been fired long ago,
Most annoying is that the cashier pretty much makes up the prices as you go. Sure there is a list of prices, but they often upcharge for a part. Example, needed a cruise control module. Price shows $37. Cashier insists its a ENGINE CONTROL MODULE and wanted to charge $84. I left without it and bought one on Ebay for $30 shipped.
Other time I needed a hood insulator. The thin fabric liner attached to the hood and about the size of a floor mat. A floor mat is $7 but there is no price listed for the hood insulator, so the cashier says, $30. I said no thanks and bought one brand new at the dealer for $42. I was behind a guy checking out and he had a pile of parts. Bumper cover, fender, headlight, radiator core support with radiator, condenser, cooling fans, etc. Total with fees and tax was almost $750! Just a couple of years ago that would have been $300 max. I wanted to go up to him and say he could buy the whole car at a salvage auction for less than that.
Another ripoff is an "Environmental Fee." It's about 8% added to the price of the part. They say, This fee ensures that we provide you with a clean and safe working environment while pulling your parts in our yards. So you have to charge a fee to make sure your customers are safe? That's like a supermarket charging an 8% additional fee on groceries to make sure the floors are clean and the lights are working. Geez, what is the $3 admission fee for, then?
And lastly, the optional 90 day guaranty is not optional anymore. So the fender that was a reasonable $40 before, if you declined the warranty, is now $68. Why would anyone need a warranty on a fender?
Also, if you are a business, they don't accept tax exempt sales, even though I registered with LKQ for that. And there is no number to call to straighten that out. Will be contacting the Comptroller of MD about that. The only positive thing I can say is that they post their inventory online so at least there is a good chance of finding what you need.
