The nice lady behind the counter who was courteous enough to hop off the phone when I entered explained, a bit uncomfortably but to the best of her ability, that the person who runs the workroom doesn't care to have used goods in her environs, and suggested I take them to my dry cleaner for repair. That's right, they don't care to work on "used goods," even when they are products of Good Goods! In addition to reupholstering, one needed the seat completely rebuilt, one needed new springs, and one needed the exposed wood arms and runners refinished. All three came out BEAUTIFULLY, and in eight days!! We were going to do one in leather, but the owner (based on more than 30 years' experience) convinced us to go with a synthetic leather, and it is smashing, and doesn't feel like plastic at all. We supplied our own fabric for one chair and that was no problem for them (although their fabric selection includes anything one might want). All the exposed wood was improved, on all three chairs. Pickup and delivery were prompt and careful. We are thrilled. We can highly recommend this old-school (a crammed storefront) shop for TLC for your cherished heirlooms.

However, the kitchen door shade did not fit the rod and had to be remade. It arrived today - June 8th, over 6 months after our original order date. We have family coming tomorrow who have not been to our house in 2 years. I don't think I need to tell you why. In that time, we have completely remade our kitchen and have been so excited to show it off...finally. We expected that the kitchen door shade would match the new roman shades. Since we placed the original order on December 4th, we did not think that the process would finish one day before our family arrives from Florida and New York. Now, to be fair, we ordered these from the Wilton, CT store which, between December 4th and June 8th, closed permanently. The information from that store has been transferred to Calico's Westport location. The people with whom we have dealt recently regarding the kitchen shade, from the Westport office, seem to be a bit more professional and understanding of our angst. The Wilton people did not seem to care 1 single iota about our being upset at the length of time this process has taken. The product itself, the shades, has been lovely, again to be fair. We were allowed to bring home lots of swatches, and three of them were so a propos for our kitchen that it was almost a flip of the coin to decide which one to install. So Calico's product is good. That is why we went there, but while the Westport salespeople seem to be better with whom to deal than the awful Wilton people were, I would be extremely wary about ever doing business with Calico again.
