It's been awhile since I've visited the Ohana Hale Marketplace - now in Waikiki - and its food truck lot. byblos food truck offers Lebanese street food...wraps with combo plates which provide fries and a drink. Today, I requested the Lamb Kabab Wrap; this wrap comes with pita, lamb kabab, hummus ( spelled humus on the menu board ...humushumusnukunukuapuaha ), tahini, tomatoes, and pickles - yes, pickles. Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food has a commonality but the pickles did throw me off a bit, but still excellent food fare. Previously, I've had their Falafel Wrap Combo. Fries were excellent with a garlic sauce provided and the wrap was excellent. If I recall correctly, the co-owner mentioned that Lebanese pita is thinner than Israeli pita...which I am more familiar with...regardless, it's all good. Fast service...for a walk-up order...less than 10 minutes but there wasn't a line. Parking in Waikiki; good luck, but I did find metered parking not far away. Byblos is a Middle Eastern food truck that's part of the new location of Ohana Hale Marketplace on the corner of Kalakaua and Ala Moana. The food trucks are located next to the building, in a little parking lot with a handful of tables. The seating area may be too hot during most of the day, so this is more of a to-go place. We tried this place twice and had some issues. On the phone, the owner was super friendly and happy to take a phone order for pickup. I was thankful as it was a busy day and it's always nice to have an order ready when you arrive. The order was incorrect, but we just went with it. We ordered chicken gyros and shwarma gyros plus a side of fries. Everything was so greasy it made it unpleasant to eat; plus the sauce was put on so heavy it just didn't go with the other textures. The tomatoes weren't good, which is often typical for Hawaii, but were so hard we couldn't bite through them with the soft meats and bread. The fries were a big disappointment - overcooked that they were crunchy almost like chips rather than soft fries. Prices were also high for the quality and portion sizes. The issues above made us not want to go back, but the flavor of the sandwiches on our first is what got us to go twice anyway. I feel with all the other positive reviews, it may just be growing pains of being a new place. I'd like to try again sometime. read more

6/24/23 my chicken shawarma was delicious. Full of flavor and hearty enough that I felt satisfied but not bloated after eating it. Customer service was pleasant. The wait for my order wasn't too long. There's shared tables and chairs to eat at. It can get crowded since there's several other food trucks. It was also really hot that afternoon I went. Terrible lamb shawarma and service. I'm no stranger to lamb and this definitely had a funk about it and the tsiki sauce tasted old and nasty. I'm often on the lookout for good Middle Eastern food in Hawaiʻi, and I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I don't often go into Waikiki because parking is crazy and the crowds. However, I walked into Waikiki to meet a friend for lunch at the new Ohana Hale, and Byblos was one of the food trucks available in a parking of other food trucks. There were picnic tables available with umbrellas, which was nice on a hot summer day. I got a shawarma wrap, which was great! The flavors were good, and I enjoyed everything. We had a lamb shawarma wrap and falafel. While the falafel was hot and tasty, the lamb wrap was horrible. The lamb was overcooked, dry, and tasteless. It made the wrap inedible in my opinion. We went to Ala Moana Beach Park to enjoy our meal. After one bite of the lamb wrap we drive back for a refund. The gentlemen in the food truck were less than gracious. It was my opinion, they said, that the lamb was inedible. And, besides, they said I'd eaten it. I said I literally had a single bite and handed them the wrap. Ok Hi everyone, After trying this place for time and I had the chance to taste all of their food and the service I can say that.... It is nice to have this type of food in Hawaii since there are few restaurants like it in the island. First the service is bad and they should work on that more and pay attention to the customers and how they treat them rather than seeing the customer as a walking wallet . Second the price and the discount, they don't have any type of discount for locals at all and prices of the food are pretty ridiculous expensive and out of this world . I know everything is getting expensive such ingredients and rents but still the prices way to much and don't make sense. Finally and most important thing the taste of the food, falafel is good and fresh, hummus is not that fresh every time and always on sour side, garlic sauce is fresh and always good, shawarma is bad without any flavor or taste, kebab sandwiches are bad and not fresh at all and I am pretty sure they brought them from Costco and they just warm up the kebabs meat, fries is ok but they need to change the oil often because sometimes u can taste the bad oil. The only food truck with good vegetarian option. It's really hard to find good vegetarian options around Waikiki, so this is a perfect stop for the ones in need. I'm not a vegetarian but we tried this location for my husband. Falefal sandwich was really good. However, it's very small. It barely fills up a person. I wish they provided a decent size. Definitely the best shawarma on island, which I've been hunting for for years. Nicely grilled, the toum garlic sauce is bombs, and the chicken has nice flavor! I'm picky as I used to live in a major mainland city with shawarma and falafel on every corner but this still hit the spot.
