I love this place so much. I think it's my second time doing a review because I like it that much. There are not that many healthy food options for a reasonable price and good portions. This place is a GEM. Don't be skeptical because they are located in the mall. The quality is always fresh and the regular bowl easily is two meals for me. I love how you can customize and they have so many good options. The workers told me it's been slow lately so if you haven't tried this place definitely give it a try. First of all I'm really glad this addition was added to the food court because there are limited healthy options and Roots and Greens provides some refreshing new options. I want this place to stick around! That being said I did not really like my meal. I want to believe it's on me for choosing the wrong combo but I had a couple of issues. First, at least when I went, the rice was sitting out in a separate dish and was room temperature. I would like the rice to at least be warm, even better if it had some fragrant flavor like saffron rice should but I didn't taste it. Second, I got the falafel, which is something best served fresh or it gets dried out, unfortunately it was very dry even when dipping in the tzatziki so I did not finish it. The harissa sauce mixed with tzatziki was really good so I'm hopeful that a fresh and hot falafel with warm rice would have been much better than what I had today. Willing to try again. The staff was young but sweet and helpful, no complaints there. read more

I really like this place, It's fresh, it's many options, it's easy accessibility into healthier eating in a food court, and the service was very kind today. Stopped in for a regular salad, mixed greens as the foundation, with delicious hummus, a trio of veggies, eggs, and cucumber. For protein I opted for a seasoned chicken that was very tasty, steak, kebab and other options looked great as well. Also comes with grilled veggies if you choose and a piece of pita bread. They have grab and go containers for convenience but the best option is the 1-2 choice of protein plates which comes with choice of salad/starch and sides. I like to split the tumeric rice and mixed greens as the base. Then for my sides I love fresh options like their humus, beets, cucumber salad, or roasted Okinawan sweet potato. You also choose a dressing. The lemon vinaigrette is my go to and one or two protein choices. I've only tried the grilled salmon but the falafel and Mediterranean beef looks delicious too. They also top it with a fried pita chip which is crunchy and way better than the ones you find in a bag. Overall, its prices are comparable to all the food court vendors but the quality of food is superior. My new go to at the mall! read more

Here on vacation and decided to visit the Ala Moana mall. This mall and food court are both fun and lively. Tried Roots and Greens. Got a salad with mixed greens and salmon. The whole salad was amazing. Got it with beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, purple sweet potato and the evoo and herb dressing. The grilled salmon was probably the best salmon I've ever had at a mall and could easily have been served at a high end restaurant. The man at the counter was nice and friendly. The food court is packed with many delicious less healthy offerings so not surprising that there wasn't a line at this place, but if you want a healthy and delicious meal at this mall and you enjoy grilled salmon, definitely try out this place. read more

I think my husband and I may have just found our new favorite place! The pics of the food here looked delicious so we decided to try it out for a quick lunch. My husband and I each got a "regular" size ($15.99) which comes with a base, 1 choice of protein, and 2 sides. I opted for half saffron rice, half salad as my base, and for my sides I got hard boiled egg pieces, feta cheese, and hummus. I got the steak for my protein. For the sauce, I got half of my plate topped with the Greek yogurt sauce, and the other half topped with the green goddess sauce. First off, omg, the portion is HUGE! It lasted me 3 meals.. I'm not kidding LOL. And for only $15.99??! What a great deal! Especially in today's expensive times. Everything about this plate was perfect. I was a little worried because a lot of places have those chewy or extremely fatty pieces of steak that are basically inedible.. not here. The steak was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and tender! Impressive. Everything on the plate was delicious, and both sauces really brought everything together so well. I honestly can't decide which sauce is better lol. I also tried a bite of my husband's plate (same choices, but with pesto chicken as the meat), and their chicken was surprisingly tender and not grisly at all. Delicious food, huge portions, and really friendly service.. what more could you want? I highly recommend trying this place! This is the newest addition to the Makai Food Court at Ala Moana. The food they serve is on the healthier side with mostly salad options. Basically, everything is laid out and you just build your own plate. You choose your base, salad toppings, house made dressing and hot entree. We got the large $19.99. For our base we got Romaine lettuce. We picked carrots, cucumbers, eggs and cranberries & seeds for our toppings. Our hot entrees were steak and salmon. The dressing of choice was herb greek yogurt. Everything was good and so fresh. It was huge so the hubby and I shared it. The herb greek yogurt was light and barely detectable. My hubby asked for another dressing, balsamic vinaigrette, which they charged $1 for a side of additional dressing. This dressing was perfect. I love this place and will be back. read more

Simple on the salad part but that's what the mall needed.. but the team you have were not attentive.. few days I planned to have salad, the mall was not busy, I had one person in front then a second person cut in front of me to pay for the already-made bento. You had a second employee that may be on break but both of your employee looked at me without acknowledging me. People may say what you want for a fast food joint, but mind you in this tipping world, I tip generously. I probably plan to still eat there like how I have proudly supported the chain of Poke Bowl and Aja, but probably avoid the employees that want to work for the hourly. If anyone has a chance to eat there, the steak is tasty and the "tomato medley" is what I called it, is delicious. read more

The price went up from the last time I was here, which was just a few months ago. I got the smaller size which is $15.99 and you pick your base, 3 add ons, and 1 protein or hot item. I chose the romaine lettuce as my base, my add ons were beets, sweet potatoes, and crushed boiled eggs and chicken breast. The chicken breast was a bit dry so I had to make sure to wash it down with my water to avoid choking . I always get balsamic on all of salads to avoid those extra calories in the creamy dressings. Seems like they have a wide variety of dressings to chose from. Although the price went up, they seem to be putting more so it all pans out. The service was good and the veggies were fresh. Roots and Greens is the best thing that ever happened to the Ala Moana food court. It's located next to where the old Paradise Bakery used to be and in the spot that used to be Mama's Italian food. This place is amazing. Fresh salads they can build for you, or ready made ones on the side. You get your money's worth here. My husband had a large salad. It comes with two proteins. He chose salmon and chicken. The salmon was moist and tasty as was the chicken. The salad dressing was excellent. He chose the lemon vinaigrette. The staff was friendly and service was fast. The whole time my husband was eating he kept saying how good his salad was, and he is quite picky. I ate at the stall next to it, and I wish I got what he had. I don't know if this is a chain, franchise, or independent, but we need more of Roots & Greens in Hawaii. It beats the other well known salad place (Aloha Salads) hands down! read more

I was looking for a healthier option for lunch which can be hard to find in a food court. I am glad I did make a walk around Makai Market and came across Roots & Greens. It is basically a build your own salad place though they do have some packaged ones if you want to just grab and go. They have regular and large sizes. Both come with your choice of lettuce or rice and dressing. With the large you get an additional salad topping (4 vs 3) and another hot entree (2 vs 1). I got the regular size salad with half romaine/spring mix lettuce, beets, hummus, assorted Italian (tomatoes, onion, cucumber), balsamic vinaigrette, and souvlaki-style grilled chicken. I was worried the chicken would be dry but it was not. They are chicken thighs so that is probably why. They also have rosemary chicken breast, salmon, steak, falafel or grilled vegetables for main entree chooses. There was no line so service was fast. Yes fast food is cheaper but it is nice not to feel guilty afterwards lol. It is always good to have a wide range of food options to satisfy cravings so I am happy to see this new addition to Makai Market. read more

Located in Ala Moana Center makai market, it is mediterranean fast food. If i consider Cava the standard for Mediterranean fast food this is not bad. I ordered the regular size and it was huge and i had a full meal left for lunch the next day. The food is much better than it looks in the photos. Good variety of Meze options to choose from. I had the chicken and beef and both were good. The beef was not super high quality meat but it was tasty and not bad at all. The chicken was super flavorful as well. I would guess that for most people the small is more than enough. If you have gone to the mainland and liked Cava you will like Roots and Greens. read more

Located at the old Mamas Spaghetti House, Roots and Greens offers fresh salads with an assortment of side options to choose from. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant is clean and well lit. As of June 2024, the menu is pretty straight forward. You want a small or large plate lunch sized serving? Pick your type of greens, then 3 or 4 sides and a hot protein entree. The Mediterranean steak was really good. Meat was tender with lots of flavor. The tomatoes were juicy as well. I believe that there's chicken, salmon, steak, falafel and grilled veggies as your hot item option. They also offer to go salads for a quick bite. As far as price, it almost priced about the same as the surrounding eateries at the food court. I dig that it's not a plate lunch style place and gives a healthy option. The first time I went it was almost closing time and they ran out of rice so ended up not getting. This time I was at Ala Moana right when they opened. So I finally got the large Steak & Falafel plate with basmati rice. $20 not bad bc they give good portion and this will last me 2 meals or I can share with my daughter. I must say the food was tasty and fresh. Falafel was perfect and steak was not dry or chewy. The green goddess sauce is bomb. It definitely hit the spot and made me happy I will be back! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed the food here at roots and greens located at ala moana food court next to LA Brisket and the ramen place.prices are fairly priced for the portion you get. The regular size you can probably make 2 meals out of it which doesn't cost too much. I got the salmon which lemon dressing which was really good.
