The portions are so generous... which brings me to their prices. Their prices are SO REASONABLE! These days, it's so hard to get a good meal for under $20. I was blown away by Da Spot and Da Prices. I ended up getting an acai bowl and small smoothie. Then, I ordered a combo plate to go for my bf and I to share later, where I selected the Egyptian Chicken Curry and Lemon Coconut Fish. Each plate comes with Saffron Rice and a salad. Karen was so friendly! She let me sample the chicken curry and then even offered to put gravy on my rice since I only requested one scoop. I love that they always have vegetarian and pescatarian dishes. Our go-to are the veggie curry and coconut fish plates. You order at the counter and get to pick an entree and a starch. The saffron rice is spot on! And the plate comes with a generous side of greens with your choice of their house-made dressings. You can also upgrade with salads from their cold bar. Speaking of cold bar, I usually grab a couple containers of salads for home lunches later in the week. I don't have to cook, and I like looking forward to what's in lunch bag. My co-worker introduced me to Da Spot a year ago and I was sold after the first time! I had seen them before, but I was skeptical to try any of their food. But omg, their food is delicious! I usually go between either the Chicken Parmesan or the Teri Chicken. The mini is a lot and will feed me at least 2 meals. The saffron rice is so yummy. The only downside is the parking. I sometimes get lucky parking on the street, but I did also park at Longs across the street a few times. Service is excellent and quick. Heard about this place for a long time, finally get to try it tonight. They do not have a parking lot, finding street parking is not that easy. They do have some tables and chairs for you to enjoy your food. The service is good, pretty busy place for dinner, I guess it is popular for local people around this area. The portion of food is very generous. I ordered a regular for $13. I cannot finish half of my plate and I am a growth male. My wife noticed the portion is huge, she ordered a mini, and she cannot finish half of it too. My dinner included rice, salad and the main which is herb coconut chicken. 6 big pieces of chicken for $13 bucks! I do not think you can find this deal anywhere in Honolulu. The taste is not like out of the world but good enough for me. The seating area is spacious. I will come back to try other dish but my wife said not for her. Their seasoned rice is very flavorful, especially after smothering in the sauces. 13$ gets a pretty huge food portion. I couldnt finish it all in one sitting. Great place with amazing prices. They have a lot of tables inside, in a pretty large space away from the street. Sadly, at the time I stopped in, they weren't making sandwiches but only mains. I tried the lemon herb chicken and my husband the Moroccan chicken. Super tasty, plus tasty rice with sauce. I've been here three times, and ordered the regular plate with a different meat each time. The service is similar to Chipotle-style restaurants--you choose the size plate you want, what kind of rice (either brown or saffron), the entree, the salad, and then they move down the counter and fill up your plate in front of you from large tubs of food. You can see exactly what the food looks like, and you get it quickly. I never had to wait to order. The prices are great at roughly $10 for a basic plate. You can make substitutions for an additional cost. You might think $10 wouldn't get you much food, but they really fill up your box. You get a salad, two large scoops of rice, and around 6-7 pieces of chicken--you'd be hard pressed to find another restaurant that can beat Da Spot in terms of value. Unfortunately, the food itself is mediocre. I chose the saffron rice all three times, and on its own it's not very flavorful. In a blind taste test, I doubt I'd be able to differentiate it from plain, unseasoned rice. I've tried the teriyaki chicken, lemon coconut chicken, and tomato garlic chicken. The teriyaki chicken was too sweet for my taste, and the tomato garlic chicken was dry, despite being drenched in juices and sauce. Of the three, the lemon coconut chicken is the only one I liked, though it wasn't amazing. Unless you get make a substitution, the plate also comes with a basic salad. It's just lettuce and some shredded carrots, nothing much more to say about that. I highly the mango vinaigrette dressing. The restaurant itself is in what looks like a converted auto shop, with two large, garage doors facing the street. The interior is extremely bare-bones, with little decor to speak of. They also have live music some nights. Overall, this is a very low-key spot where you can get a lot of food cheaply and quickly. While the food itself is just passable, I will continue eating here for the convenience and value. read more

I've seen this company exist as a pillar in its community for over the last decade. They have always provided an option for struggling youth to get their first experience working somewhere and making money by themself. This is actually the second place I worked ever and upon returning I was pleasantly surprised at the upgrades and consistent vision they've shown. This is my go-to spot any time Im starving. The portions are so large, i can share with my daughter AND still have leftovers for the next day. The covered indoor seating is perfect on a hot day. Lots of cool winds. They play good music as well. Plenty of seating and lots of space between tables so you dont have to hear others' conversations. I ordered the thai curry chicken, which is a mix of sweet and a faint hint of spice. Lots of veggies and no shortage of tender chicken. The sauce is perfection. I also hot the moroccan chicken, which is also on the sweet but savory side. It falls apart in your mouth. The combo comes with 2 choices, saffron rice (which is the star of the show) and a side salad. The ranch isnt great but its okay. Make you you add sauce from the chicken onto your rice. Makes it 10x better. Lastly, i got the Aloha Berry smoothie and added mango and bananas. It was delicious but the blackberries werent blended well so had a hard crunch but it was overall delicious.
