Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Food: We had our office holiday dinner here and 15 people attended. We did a set menu which had 3 courses. The first course was Labneh with bread, hummus, & beef tartare. Second course was Lamb pide & pear salad. Third course was grilled branzino, middle eastern fried chicken, black truffle rice, and thrice cooked fries. Then there was dessert which was chocolate mousse cake & baklava. Because of my many food allergies the main server for our table was very attentive & specific in asking me what I wanted as modifications. For example I got a wagyu beef pide instead of the lamb. Every dish was really delicious, presented well & quite filling. I couldn't eat all of the food. Though I tried almost everything. Service: The pacing of the dishes was quite masterful. They really paid attention to when the food was going to come out. As I mentioned above the main server was very attentive to my food allergies. I really appreciated that as some restaurants aren't as attentive. The food was served family style so everyone could take what they wanted from the serving dishes. The dishes were served in little bowls along the tables with each bowl serving about 4 people. We had asked for one long table so it was a little snug. But we made it work. Ambiance: [[HIGHLIGHT]]For dinner the lighting of the space is really dim. LOL. I would have appreciated just a little bit more light.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is in an old building so to use the washroom you had to go down two flights of stairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area is small also. But it's a pretty space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As mentioned above we asked for one long table to seat 15 people. I was expecting square tables but it was a bunch of small round tables pushed together. So the tables were really crowded with food from all the dishes. But the servers made sure to take empty serving dishes away as soon as possible. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music was a little loud for me so I had to yell to be heard.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was packed though.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, the service & atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant is close to Roy Thompson Hall & the other theatres nearby so it's a convenient location as well. It's too bad this place is only open for dinner. I would have loved to see how they would operate a lunch time service. In any case, Byblos was amazing. An incredible dinner from start to finish. The lamb shoulder was out of this world--tender, deeply seasoned, and absolutely memorable. The sides were just as impressive, especially the rice, which delivered exactly the flavours my palate was craving. Every note landed perfectly. The Brussels sprouts were beautifully done too, and the pear and arugula salad made for a bright, refreshing start. The octopus was expertly prepared--delicate, smoky, and set atop a rich, nutty harissa that added just the right warmth and depth. Everything, truly, was exceptional. The service struck that perfect balance--attentive without overstepping. I left in a state of quiet bliss. A remarkable dinner in every sense.

If you are looking for some delicious Middle Eastern food, look no further than Byblos. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This super chic restaurant in the heart of the entertainment district is truly stunning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You are greeted with a big smile, and the service is top notch. The menu here is extensive with so many options especially for those who are vegetarian. There was so much to choose from it was honestly hard to decide. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This restaurant is huge with 2 floors of seating, but make sure to make a reservation has it can get filled up quick![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On to the most important part, the food! The food here is chef's kiss, it truly is filled with so much flavor and truly tasted like amazing Middle Eastern food. I got to try the Lamb Ribs with this raz el hanout glaze which was amazing, Turkish Manti Dumplings (will be coming back for this), Pear & Arugala salad, Labneh (wow!), and those were just the appetizers. Now on to the main dishes I got to try the Harissa Roasted Half Chicken, Lamb Shoulder and Bone-In Ribeye. Everything truly was spectacular and would highly highly recommend you check this place out. Yes the prices are expensive but the quality and flavor truly makes up for it. 10/10 recommend!!

Stopped into Byblos with a reservation for 3 which was a must as it is very busy and popular! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is super chic and good for groups![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great and we were greeted immediately. As for the food it was delicious and the portions were great for the appetizers and shareables. We also got dessert which was a big hit amongst my group. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The octopus and the lamb ribs were my favorite dishes.

Had a good experience at Byblos overall. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere, with stylish decor and a warm vibe that makes it great for a dinner out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was well presented and flavorful, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into the dishes. Some items stood out more than others, and a couple flavors were a little heavier than I usually prefer, but everything was still enjoyable. Service was polite and professional, although it slowed down a bit once it got busier. Overall, it's a solid spot in downtown Toronto and definitely worth trying.

Service was good. Our service was nice and attentive. We got the hummus, lamb ribs, octopus, short rib kebab, and Brussels sprouts. Surprisingly, the lamb ribs were pretty terrible. They weren't very crispy and had a whole lot of fat. The flavor just got overwhelming and it was hard to really enjoy the meal after. I'd definitely avoid that next time. Everything else was great. The hummus was slightly grainy and not oily, which was nice. The octopus was one of my favorite dishes, along with the Brussels sprouts. The halloumi in the Brussels sprouts was a nice saltiness without adding bacon, like every other place. The short rib kebab was good too. Slightly on the sweet side, but I don't think I was able to truly enjoy it because of the lamb ribs. Overall, I'd definitely go back and try other dishes. Maybe adding a salad would've been a good balance to the meal.

Byblos is long due on my wishlist. It was once on the list of top 100 Canadian restaurants. My friend also recommended the place to me previously. Finally I got to try their dinner lately for a celebration event. The entrance of the restaurant was not very obvious. Going through some dark hallways, we were guided to seat upstairs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was nice and quiet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered quite some varieties for the dishes and you should expect to spend almost $100 per person for the food here. We got two appetizers to start with. The pear and arugula salad and the eggplant yogurt Turkish dumplings. However, the salad was served after all the mains were served which was not great. The salad was more sour than expected but refreshing. The dumplings had chewy skin, with interesting flavours from the sauce. They used pretty strong herbs on the dumplings, but I liked both appetizers. For mains, we tried their branzino, the fried chicken, the rack of lamb and truffle rice. Everything was delicious except for the fried chicken. The breading was super thick and hard with barely any chicken meat inside. The branzino and the lamb were cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the muhammara and pomegranate molasses sauce on the side of the lamb. It was a perfect match with the meat. The truffle rice was great too especially when eating it hot. The cumen really brought out the scent of the dish. Overall, the service was okay and the food quality was decent. My favorite dishes were the lamb, the branzino and the truffle rice. I'll revisit when I miss the lamb here.

Great Middle Eastern place in downtown Toronto. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They seemed very busy on a Tuesday night but had plenty of room to accommodate many customers (btw, it's a great place if you are looking for something for a large group).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am sure you would need a reservation if you want to come for a dinner on Friday night or the weekend. They have tons of various options on the menu. Truly something for everything. Everything I've tried was delicious with lots of flavors. Portions were huge! Definitely a great place if you are craving some middle eastern food.

Excellent place for Middle Eastern food! It is a nice large space (there is a lower and upper level) with an elegant yet trendy aesthetic. The food and drinks were awesome. I tried the hummus, pear & arugula salad, sweet jeweled rice, cauliflower, and pide (flatbread) and all were delicious and perfect for sharing. For drinks I tried the Marrakesh garden and that was perfect for the flavor profile that I like. To top it off (quite literally) the drink was topped with nigella seeds, which I had never heard of before but apparently they are good for you and they added a nice crunch. Came here with a big(ish) group and the server handled us with aplomb, taking and giving us our order in a timely manner, and splitting the bill according to what we ordered per person. Definitely recommend Byblos!

Came here for a work meal and it was fantastic. There are a number of round banquet-style tables that are great for larger groups. We started off with a round of cocktails and I really enjoyed the geographer and the nightingale sour. We had a number of appetizers - some highlights for me were the beef tartare which comes with a nice spice layer on top (new to me but very tasty), the dips which come with bread, and the crispy shrimp. Out of the mains the standout was the octopus. Our server was great, came by just the right amount and timed the dishes perfectly. Overall really good food, drinks, and ambiance! I'll definitely be back!

Ambiance: nice, clean restaurant. It's a little more on the romantic side but it does somewhat feel like you're in a different area instead of Toronto. Service: our server was good. pointed out the popular dishes to us which we ended up getting. Food: starting with the turkish dumplings - the sauce was amazing! such a nice twist to the dumplings were used to. We got the braised short rib, wagyu kofta, branzino, half roast chicken, and black truffle rice. Everything was honestly sooo amazing!!! Still dreaming about the black truffle rice and chicken! The short rib was delicious but it is on the fatty side so may not be a favorite for everyone. Highly recommend coming here for dinner!

Came here for my wife's birthday. Everything was absolutely amazing! Prior to coming, I had requested in a special note if they can bring out a cake at the end of the meal for my wife, and they did exactly that. It was the olive oil cake. The server who was serving us was also very nice. I've never been to a restaurant like this. The ambiance was very cozy, and we both loved being there. I hope to come back very soon.

Toronto has become one of my favorite cities, but until Byblos it was mostly because of the music scene. This place was selected because it was in the middle of downtown, had an interesting menu, and seemed to have a good vibe. Next to us a big table held a birthday with balloons and it was hard to tell if it was for a 42 year old or a 24 year old. The group and whole restaurant was eclectic in age range, and sophisticated in many ways. But that's not why 5 stars - they're for the Branzino and truffle rice. Plus the wine was top notch. Think both I and my dinner guest will long remember that fish. And frankly I could just go back to hang out. See you there! read more

A mediocre mostly vegetarian restaurant with a small Menu that's very much overcharged! My appie was the Spanish Octopus that had a slight bite to it but otherwise little flavour. The Middle Eastern Fried Chicken was good but not as good as I would have expected. Short Rib Kabob was ok but it was a reheated protein which always has that funky taste to it. The place was busy for a Thursday night but the service was exceptional. I think I'd go again but just adjust my order a bit. If I may add..to the restaurant...diversify your menu. read more

Loved this restaurant because of the scenery as well as service. They had halal options however they do have a small selection of food. Byblos offers a high-end, creative take on Middle Eastern flavors with influences from Turkey, Iran, and beyond. The small plates were a great way to try out a bunch of different items from the menu, and our friendly server was super helpful with recommendations. To start, the Beef Tartare was a mixture of chopped raw beef mixed with capers and sumac and topped with pickled chilies and dots of toum (garlic sauce) and spicy zhoug. The tartare mixture had a dominantly sour and spicy flavor and went nicely with the crunchy lavash crackers served on the side. Next, the Roasted Red Beets was a dish of labneh (a thick yogurt cheese) topped with red beets and crushed pistachios, and served with a side of barbari bread sectioned into three long strips and topped with crunchy dukkah (a nut and spice mixture). The Black Truffle and Cheese Pide was a boat-shaped Turkish flatbread baked with a topping of mozzarella, feta, and akawi cheeses with just a light truffle aroma. The Lamb Ribs were super tender, fatty riblets topped with dukkah and sesame seeds, and decorated with dollops of buttermilk and red chili schug. Finally, one of the most stunningly presented dishes was the Fried Eggplant, in which battered golden slices of fried eggplant were stacked in a bowl in the shape of a flower and decorated with dollops of yogurt for a colorful contrast. The eggplant had a nice crispy texture from the sesame seeds in the batter and a nice sweet flavor from the honey drizzled over the dish. However, the eggplant was also on the greasy side, and the dish was definitely more impressive for its artistic than culinary features. Overall, Byblos made for a great high-end dining experience, and there were plenty more creative options on the menu to try! read more

This was our first nicer dinner when we came to visit. Guess we just got a slow start! Everyone we encountered was very pleasant and accommodating. I was soon mesmerized by the way one of the chefs created the labneh "well" in the beet and crispy baby artichoke dishes. I eventually worked up the courage to ask his permission to take a Boomerang. He kindly obliged. To start, we ordered the beets, the steak tartare, manti dumplings and Spanish octopus. Though they pretty much put their dukkah on everything, it was delicious and I didn't mind it one bit. The steak tartare and the octopus were my two favorite starters. The steak tartare was one of the best I've had. For the mains, we ordered the crispy duck confit rice, short rib kebab, whole branzino along with a side of the seared cauliflower. To be honest, we weren't HUGE fans of the entrees. The appetizers were, to us, more impressive. Also, our server had mentioned she would course everything out for us so that not everything came at once. But when ALL our entrees came at once and I commented to her, all she said was "Yep, they're all here!" The crispy duck confit rice was pretty heavy on what tasted like star anise but I really enjoy the texture. The short rib, for whatever reason, came lukewarm. I took food photos but I'm generally a one-and-done type photographer (not high caliber) so it doesn't explain why the short rib was already lukewarm by the time we dug in. The fish was ok...somewhat on the fishy side...but the saffron sauce which I was apprehensive about ended up saving the dish. Dessert was another highlight of the evening. The pavlova was a foregone conclusion due to the theatrics of cracking it open but it ended up being supremely tasty as well. First meringue I've had that was tangy and not cloyingly sweet. We also got the baklava which we had totally discounted thinking it was heavy. On recommendation from our server, though, we decided to give it a go. It was amazingly light and delicious as well. Overall a good meal...and I would probably come back if we were ever in town again (hopefully)...but I would probably cobble together dinner from among the appetizer section or try other entrees. read more

I find many of the restaurants in the theatre district are pretty mediocre, so I was really happy to finally get a chance to try Byblos. It did not disappoint. It is a lovely warm room, the server was very helpful in making recommendations, and the food was very tasty. I was going to say it felt a little expensive - but really we just had too much wine which always increases the bill! read more

Amazing food and amazing service!!! The atmosphere alone is five stars, it's downstairs and up. (We sat upstairs at a corner booth for two..charming!) We ordered seven plates between us, (we just wanted to try everything that sounded interesting to us but we would have been good with only four), and all were complete stand-outs except the rolled couscous. (Skip that one: dry and bland, even with the toppings from other dished added) But DO NOT following: Eggplant/manti dumplings!!!! OMG!!! The fish baked in yogurt sauce is amazing! The labne with honey and beets The lamb ribs! The cauliflower and the marcona almonds are both also very nice to have but the four above are originals here! read more

I finally got to try out Byblos which is almost always on the list of must try restaurants in Toronto. Definitely try it it if you want Mediterranean food for a nice date night or celebration dinner! We got the sweet crown jewel rice, Turkish manti dumplings, black truffle and cheese pide, middle eastern fried chicken. Sweet crown jewel rice: imagine taking a bite of the most beautiful spring garden in full bloom. That's what this rice tastes like! It's very fresh and fragrant, with a strong floral taste. I've never had anything like this before and each bite made me happy! Highly recommend Turkish manti dumplings: these were really great too! Super creamy sauce and the way it is plated is very different from how I usually eat dumplings. A must try dish for sure. Middle Eastern fried chicken: its a good dish to order to fill you up. The sesame sauce gave it extra nutty flavor! Black truffle and cheese pide: I found this too salty and the truffle flavour was mild. I'd probably skip this if I returned. read more

(Update) was here in 2019 and returned at the behest of our dear friend. TOTALLY different and amazing experience probably because of our EPIC server from London UK who dazzled us with his interpretation of the how the food was prepared and selected the best dishes for us to eat. I hosted my birthday dinner here. We were a group of 4 and we were seated on the second floor. The ambience is very chic and the lighting dim, which complimented the vibes. The server recommended us to order multiple items to share on the menu. As all the other reviews state, it is on the pricier side, however, given it was a special event, we didn't mind serving. The garnish - the food was beautiful. I have not seen such beautiful plating. We ordered the Turkish Manti Dumplings ($16), Black Truffle Pie ($18), Rice ($19), and Cauliflower ($14). The dumplings and cauliflower were surprisingly really good. For dessert, we shared all three options! The stuffed baklava was my favourite. Although the food and ambience was amazing, the service was just OK. We had to wait to get our server's attention. Would definitely go again for the experience (on a special occasion). read more

Wow!! This place is awesome ! Looking for a spot for a birthday dinner this jumped out - I second guessed myself when we arrived and went through a rather ominous dark door which led to a set of stairs covered in a dark curtain - but then it opened to a pretty space and an amazing smell The food consists of lots of smaller tapas style dishes, then mains and sides designed to share! We began with olives, tuna, artichoke , octopus which were simply amazing - perhaps the best I have had and amazing eggplant dumpling which was perhaps my favorite dish of the night We tried the mussels as our main with the cauliflower, sprouts , couscous and fries - again all so good. Everything was full of flavor and potions just perfect !! We ended with a couple of desserts by which point our bellies were popping but it was so worth it especially the orange blossom mousse! Nice elegant fusion Mediterranean . Pay attention to fusion because it's not your regular Mediterranean. For example their kibbeh is a "duck kibbeh" yep you read it right! So just check the menu before you reserve. We were a big group ( 6 adults and 4 kids) and they accommodated us with a nice big table at the end of the restaurant. Service was good but not top notch and the food was interesting yet portions were disappointing. The lamb shoulder for 2 is a 65$ plate but check the picture not quiet for 2 ! Been hearing rave reviews about this place and been meaning to try this place for yearssss...finally have a chance to eat there! All looks unique and mouth watering ...hard to choose which one to order. After some 'struggling'(and read through yelp review) , we decided to order: Wagyu lahmeh (i.e.wagyu pide) Tuna tartare Jeweled rice Lamb ribs Mantis dumpling Short rib kebab Olive oil chocolate cake (it has medjool date for the sweetness). All is phenomenal in its own way! Very unique and balanced flavour. Each dish have its own distinct flavour (so it's not like 'after a while all taste the same' kinda thing). Never have this type of spices combination in a dish! -Tartare is refreshing (not typical tartare flavour..i was surprised by the freshness of it). -Pide is light ..with nice bit of wood-oven crust (my least favorite, but husband love it). -Lamb falls off the bone..literally! -Short rib kebab soooo tender (we thought it was wagyu) -Jeweled rice...wow!! Just wow!! It has sprinkle of pistachio pomegranate saffron (and whatever else that i cannot identify). That pomegranate give burst juicy tangy flavour as we eat. -mantis...cant pinpoint it. It has sort of subtle sweet and savoury (it has cheese filling). But the sweetness is different (wonder what do they use). -chocolate cake...yum! Never eat dessert with date as a base. It has perfect light sweetness and light 'cake'. And i guess it feels healthier too since the sugar is from fruit. Lol. Overall, highly recommended. The years of waiting worth it! Too bad it's far and only open at night. Otherwise i may already be back there by now and try other dishes.. Byblos..wait for my second third fourth n-th coming! Cheers! P.S. if you come to downtown location, it has parking nearby and you can reserve it beforehand by calling Byblos. The parking is also mentioned on their website. Excellent Lebanese/Middle Eastern food. The labneh and the lamb are must get items. The beef tartare was also really good. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for something new and your girl and parents won't allow you to take them to an Asian spot 4 times in a row. read more

Love love love this restaurant! Every time I'm in Toronto, I'll go out of my way to eat here at least once. First of all, the service and food is always superb. Keep in mind that the food is all meant to share, family style. Secondly, they take OpenTable reservations. And finally, it's located in a convenient location, close to St Andrew Station. You can even walk through the path to get closer to the entrance! I love the ambiance of the restaurant. I've eaten twice on the first floor, which is a bit more casual but still very nice. I love that counter they prepare appetizers on! The second floor is definitely more fancy. Either floor would be great for a dinner date! To start, I will always order a pide. It comes out nice and hot, and every one I've tried did not disappoint. The truffle and cheese one is my favourite. I would also recommend their labneh dip, whether it be their other varieties with artichoke or beets, or the regular one. The lamb is definitely something you can share between 3-4 people. The lamb is so soft, you can just tear it and wrap it up in the pancakes and toppings it comes with. Really fun and you can customize based on your preferences! I tried the kebab last time, and that meat was so tender and flavourful, mmm. I'd also recommend getting a rice. The portion is decent and the truffle one I tried was quite delicious. And finally, their desserts are sooo beautiful. My favourites include the mousse (which comes with cotton candy on top), pavlova, and their ice creams. Some items that were a pass from me are the lamb ribs (small portion), the cauliflower side (too salty), and chicken (nothing amazing). Service is great. Waiters are attentive, make great recommendations, and keep water glasses full. If you don't know what to eat, ask for recommendations! They know the menus best. Also, the waiters are super friendly and always have a great attitude. Once, our cauliflower was much too salty to eat, and they brought over complimentary ice creams to apologize. If that's not service, I don't know what is! I'm definitely going to make my way to Byblos again when I come back to Toronto. I'm missing it already! read more

Out of all the food we tried in Toronto this place was our favorite. We ordered way too many dishes because we wanted to try it all. Read other reviews to get more details about the dishes but what really stood out to us were the Manti Dumplings, Fried Eggplant and Fried Chicken. If you are to book a reservation anywhere in this town you should definitely book one here. read more

Food: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Wow finally a review from me that's not on poke bowls or Asian food! Byblos was everything that I expected based on the awesome reviews from friends and here on Yelp. First of all, the service and atmosphere were top-notch. I was here with a group of 4 girls and we were seated at a cozy round booth upstairs. Our server was honestly so helpful and offered up some great suggestions. For example, we initially wanted to share a couple apps, some mains and carbs, etc. but we were unsure about how much to order. She suggested that 8 dishes would be a good start since they usually recommend 2 dishes per person because the portion sizes are small. And by small portion sizes, they were SMALL. This was good in the sense that we were able to share a lot more items, but also meant that the bill was quite hefty so it definitely is more of a nicer meal. Here is a list of what we ordered and my rankings (I don't remember the exact names sorry): Favs - Roasted beets, Spinach pide (so creamy and delicious), Short rib kebab (so tender!) Average - Turkish dumplings, Black truffle rice Meh - Spanish Octopus (5 tiny pieces lol), Fried chicken (very dry and not much flavour) I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes when I feel like treating myself because the meal came to almost $70 per person (with one drink). read more

This place blows away your tastebuds. All the dishes are great for sharing. Went with a group of 6. The fried eggplant was so crispy and the sauce was awesome. Both the truffle cheese and wagyu pide were full of flavour and crispy. Hummus was full of flavour, tuna and beef tartare were very refreshing, both rice were got had lots of flavour. Fried chicken was so crispy and the lamb ribs had a lot of flavour. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Will be back! Chef Cio recommended this place to us. read more

I've always held Middle Eastern food very close to my heart, as one of my favourite cuisines that I grew up eating a lot of. In Toronto, as much Middle Eastern food as we have it's been tough to find truly excellent restaurants among the crowd - especially when it comes to combining authenticity with an upscale / experimental menu, which Byblos does well. Years ago when I first came here I thought it was unauthentic and underwhelming, but after coming here again I can safely say they've made massive strides to getting it right. Starting with the cocktails - I tried The Businessman which is a very refreshing version of the old fashioned, and the Mediterranean Mule (usually made spirit free, you can add your own) which was delicious in its use of date syrup - wish they would use this in more cocktails! Here's the rundown of the food: - Manti Dumplings: the obvious star of the entire show. Steaming little pillows stuffed with eggplant served in a wonderfully creamy and savory yogurt / date molasses sauce - this was one of those dishes that fills you up in your soul, and gives you a feeling of coziness all up in your insides. - Hummus Royale: smooth creamy hummus with plenty of wagyu beef on top, this went great with the fluffy barbari bread and made for a wonderful bite. - Lamb Ribs: fall off the bone lamb cooked to perfection, again using the date molasses and served with a chili sauce that made for some explosive flavours - Tomato & Cucumber Salad: fresh, quality ingredients with lots of cheese - was a solid dish, though I wish it had more olives - Black Truffle & Cheese Pide - this was just average to me, it was a good savoury bite but lacked the explosive flavour I was expecting; might've been nice with more sumac. - Short Rib Kebab: not your typical kebab, this one was almost like a mini prime rib - the meat was succulent and juicy with a truffle yogurt sauce and was a great hit - Fried Chicken: perfectly crunchy on the outside, and soft and juicy on the inside - this was textbook, and I loved that it was served with all the side including pickles, turnips, tahini, red schug, and even a ranch sauce with sumac. Plenty of sauce combos to try! - Branzino: perfectly grilled, love that they didn't try to do too much with this one and let the quality of fish speak for itself - and boy did it speak. - Sweet Jeweled Rice: not like your typical tahdig, but with plenty of flavour and texture throughout. I really love sumac in my rice, but the saffron really sparkled here so that was still a win. - Sautéed Greens: some staple greens nicely seasoned with herbs and cheese, this one felt healthy and delicious, and made me feel a lot better about eating that fried chicken. - Baklava: this dessert came with 9 pieces so it was a great one to share, and the white chocolate sauce was a perfect way to take a decent baklava to the next level. Overall, would say this was truly an excellent meal, even for my lofty standards of Middle Eastern food. My only qualm is I wish I had some pictures to memorialize it! Byblos has come a long way since I last tried it a couple years ago and they've taken their food from good to great. The service was excellent too, as they were great with recommendations / customizations and coursed everything out well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a big dinner, and can't wait to come back for those dumplings! read more

Had the most wonderful birthday meal here last Friday! Normally I'm not a big fan of Mediterranean food cause they are a bit too greasy for my taste. However, the food here completely changed my mind! Especially loved the sea bream and the sauce on the fish. The eggplant dumplings and lamb rack were super good too - especially the sauce. Oh my goodness. This was so lovely. Such lovely environment. Love the decor and the service was wonderful with such a great menu Go with lots of people so you can try a bunch of different things. They have cocktails that come in tea pots. It's novel but I wouldn't get it again. Didn't feel like it was worth the price. Good on the other hand was mind blowing. The octopus was tender, baby gem salad was such a nice mix of flavours. Pide stole the show though it was so good we order another on at the end of the meal instead of getting dessert. Overall was a fantastic time. The food at Byblos does not fail to disappoint. Would classify it as "a hearty Mediterranean experience". Out of everything we ordered, would highly recommend : the truffle pide, the glazed carrots, the turkish manti dumplings (no meat in these!), and the cape d'or salmon. Such a savory variety that you just can't go wrong with really anything you select. In regards to location: the Uptown location is the winner. It has a more traditional Mediterranean ambiance. Downtown Byblos is further away and a bit more edgy. One thing to keep in mind: they DO NOT validate parking. They say to call in advance to provide your license plate number if parking in the ImPark lot at 211 Adelaide street. We called 30 minutes prior to our reservation and there was no reply- just a song playing for 2 minutes with what seemed to be no end. Apparently emailing them instead is the way to go. read more

This place lived up to everything I heard. It's delicious. This is definitely a place you want to round up a few friends to go with so that you can split all the shared dishes and try as many different options as possible. Go with an open mind and try everything. The only dish I wasn't completely sold on was the pizza/flat bread. Other than that I could eat endless amounts of everything else. The decor was also unique. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. I don't recall seeing them being able to accommodate any walk-ins. read more

The food and cocktails were exceptional. Truly. We tried the ahi tuna, beets with labneh, black truffle rice, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, marcona almonds and olives. All delicious and beautiful. Unfortunately, our server was a bit snooty. She didn't seem to approve of our ordering style, which was surprising considering the menu seemed to emphasize shareables. Our first time at Byblos we didn't have a reservation and so we just grabbed a couple of seats and ate at the bar. But the food was so good, we decided that we had to go back next time we were in Toronto. Covid delayed the return trip, but we finally made it back and it was well worth it. Byblos is one of the top rated restaurants in Toronto and one of my personal favourites. This place is perfect for any occasion and never disappoints. RESTAURANT: The decor of the restaurant is beautiful with dim lighting. There are two floors to the place but I've only ever sat on the main floor. The seating is a bit tight but you are still able to sit comfortably. The service is always great and attentive. FOOD: For starters, I recommend the roasted red beets which comes with barbari bread (like who doesn't love carbs) and their eggplant kibbeh. you MUST try their pides if you ever come here, they are so delicious. Their black truffle rice is already very aromatic and a bit more filling. Overall, the flavours of their dishes are so unique, you'll want to come back and try the whole menu. read more

First time in Canada and after checking yelp for my first meal in Canada, I was excited to see a place called Byblos - the same name as a favorite restaurant I enjoyed when I lived in California. And they had a dish called Manti that I also loved at Byblos in CA. These were obviously different businesses as this one is a nice sit down type place. I had the Manti and while it was good, it wasn't the same as the dish I had in CA. Instead there was a flat bread item (Wagyu Pide) with some sort of meat on top and it was phenomenal. I'd definitely recommend trying it. read more

The best dish of the bunch was the maftoul, which was simple yet tasty. On the other side of the spectrum the panna cotta was terrible, it had little to no flavour and an odd watery consistency. The service also left a lot to be desired, my biggest complaint was that it would take AGES for our food to arrive. In hindsight I understand why there were a lot of corporate gatherings when I was at the restaurant, especially attending around the holidays. I'm sure flashy performances and mildly exotic food would be a hit for the accounting team.

It said established in 1919, so we thought it's a good sign it's been in business over a century; although not this location specifically. Their history in the 20th century was that they started in Berlin, Germany in 1919, but they were a Jewish family who ended up immgrating to Israel in 1933, opening their store there, and expanded locations throughout Israel. Their history in Toronto & North America (including some in the US) is much more recent since opening in 2017. Unfortunately, my closest is New York City; none in Maryland or DC area. This location is in busy downtown Toronto. We sat outside on their big patio area as the weather was warm and could enjoy the view of the buildings, people, cars, etc. Server was friendly answering our questions. I ended up getting an egg benedict with salmon in a croissant. It was creative and delicious take on egg benedict. The only issue was it was messy to eat in the croissant, but I didn't care as it was so delicious. My girlfriend got a Belgian waffle with blueberries, whipped cream, etc. It was unique and very good & sweet too as I tried a bite. All in all -- I'd recommend this spot to folks but don't go there thinking the service will be great.

It didn't have any kind of crust and just seemed a little on the bland side. But that's a minor complaint for a rather decadent lunch that I quite enjoyed eating.

Sometimes when I get Khao soi it ends up being too heavy or creamy, but the curry for this one was thinner and easy to eat. The shrimp was the best part - super fresh and bouncy. In the end I thought the portions and quality were good. The service was also super nice, and it was impressive to see our waitress cover so many tables. The restrooms were also clean.

My friends and I were craving to try one of North America's underrepresented cuisines at Byblos, and we were not disappointed. All of us were blown away by the exotic decor of this restaurant with beautifully appointed Mediterranean blue motifs. Starting off with a cocktail, my friend and I had the gulab which is a modern interpretation of the traditional Persian gulab sharbat. For hor d'oeuvres we had roasted red beets which was mediocre as I was expecting more char from the beets but the labneh was silky with a touch of herbs and honey. The barbari bread was crispy and piping hot and the spices played great with the texture. Next, we had the duck kibbeh which was well-balanced with the spice of sumac and cumin, ensuring that the natural flavour of duck is maintained. One of the great stand out dishes would be the lamb ribs crusted with a thick crunchy layer of dukkah that plays out the beautiful gaminess of the lamb. For the adventurous palate, you can try some of the carob molasses which has a touch of sweetness with the depth of chocolate that pairs perfectly with lamb. An alternative interpretation of the dish would be drizzle some Yemeni-inspired red chilli schug which is a garlicky condiment that adds some zest and heat to the strongly-flavoured game meat. The Turkish manti dumpling dish was a crowd-favourite with the addictive thyme based yogurt sauce and the drizzled molasses on top of the dumplings gave them a tinge of sweetness. The dumplings were perfectly cooked and the stuffing of smokey eggplant was so delicious which surprised my non-vegetarian friends who were expecting something else. I was recommended to order the basmati rice to accompany the dumpling dish, and the rice had a great variety of texture from the fried shallots to dried fruits. Dessert was simply an unforgettable sequence of delectable triumphs starting with the burnt honey ice cream with the crunch piece of honeycomb for texture. Next on the dessert list would be the crispy qatayef which was basically fried dough stuffed with spiced cream and laced with delicious honeyed syrup and strawberry with sumac - perfect with a nice cold beer! The brik pastry cigar intrigued us with its play on the turkish sigara boregi which wasn't as spectacular as we were expecting. Lately its been hard for me to get excited about a meal, but I was really excited to go to Byblos and try out something different. I would recommend it for a special occasion or pre theatre dinner date. It was a little hard to find, but after entering thru the billowing black curtain, its as if you're in your own private dining world. Its two floors and set up more loungey than a formal dining area. I liked the atmosphere, but my biggest complaint is that the tables were low compared to normal seating height. By the end of the night our backs were a little sore. Music is loud in here. Its more clubby than atmospheric. I would love to bring my parents or in laws here, but they would complain its too loud despite the yummy food. Maybe thats not the clientle they are going for. The Food. We got a bunch of small plates to share between the 2 of us. We started with the CRISPY EGGPLANT. It was deep fried eggplant sticks on tahini aioli. Really flavourful and more than just an eggplant tempura.Was my hubby's favourite dish. Next was the DUCK KIBBEH. I found it a little dry, and I couldnt discern the duck flavour from it. Still good, but not amazing. My favourite was the LAMB RIBS, fall off the bone lamb ribs with a nut crust and molasses that made it crispy. We also got the ACHURLI which is like a turkish pizza. I've had a large version of this before, but this was still good with a brioche crust and quail egg on top. It was good, but small. As a side dish, had crispy couscous on top of collard greens and halloumi cheese. It was really simple, but it was good. TURKISH MANTI DUMPLINGS from the entree side, as our last dish. It was different and interesting, eggplant stuffed on top of yogurt and molasses. It has a sweet and spicy taste which I really liked. We were so full after this, but still had room for dessert, which they have a lot of options. I couldnt decide between the Brik Pastry Cigars, or the Chocolate Mousse, so we got both (but could have done just one). Brik Pastry Cigars comes with 3. Phyllo pastry filled with Honey cream and figs, and topped with figs. It was good and better than my chocolate mousse, which was basically a cake topped with phyllo bits and shaved chocolate. it was decadent and chocolately but I like the Brik Pastry as something different. There's honestly too much to say about this place, none of them negative. It's that ultra-indulgent meal that you'll think about every time you're hungry, and you'll especially be enamoured if you're a lamb lover like me. The lamb ribs were simply unforgettable with their crisp sesame seed/dukkah crust, covering a melt-in-your-mouth bite of juicy lamb meat. Dollops of yogurt, red chilli schug and ras el hanout glaze give the dish a creamy depth of flavour and a balancing sweetness. However, the star of the show was the lamb shoulder. Each bite has an unmistakably pungent lamby aroma that basically disintegrates in your mouth. It's a punch of savoury flavours that's balanced with sweet and sour pomegranate molasses. The best part was the pita and variety of toppings to customize each bite to your liking. Despite my bias for lamb, the beef kebab was a tough contender for my favourite, even beating out the lamb ribs for me, and the Turkish manti dumplings are not to be overlooked. Even if you're stuffed at the end, somehow your body will make room for the indulgent olive oil chocolate cake that embarrasses the cakes I've had for my birthdays in the past. What I like about this dish is that a lot of restaurants will serve you the risotto on its own entree, but here you get to try both the excellent (succulent and crispy skin) I love this dish, it's fantastic! My friend got the braised Moroccan style lamb shank with couscous ($22) and found that it was intensely flavorful. We started with the organic house labneh which was a tasty spread for the warm toasted house bread. We also ordered the crispy squid and fig salad to share which was devoured in minutes! The salad was fresh and the squid was not too oily and well seasoned. For the main we ordered the slow braised Ontario lamb and the oxtail basmati rice. The lamb came in a very sizable portion (enough to be shared between 5 people) and was cooked perfectly and melt in your mouth. It comes with mini flatbreads and lots of pickled garnishes and sauces to build your own wraps. Highly recommend the oxtail rice as it was very fragrant with a generous amount of oxtail. Hands down my new favourite restaurant. Ever. The minute you walk in, you can sense a chic but comfortably quirky vibe going on, especially with the contemporary-mediterranean theme of the restaurant. Byblos was beautiful. Together with my husband, we decided to celebrate our anniversary at this place. The interior was great, the color was well-coordinated and pretty creative decor. My husband likes the classic and very intimate ambiance of the area. It makes the whole place looks so luxurious. Settings were comfortable and arranged accordingly. My wife really likes the taste of their Lamb's ribs, the Turkish dumplings were cooked perfectly and so tasty itself. Mine was the octopus, so chewy, so sticky, so soft. Went there as a part of a group. We had an amazing, enormous middle eastern feast - everything was terrific! The atmosphere was quiet (we were their first reservation) but quickly geared up as dinner reservations were checking in. Served family style, there were a myriad of options, with one better than the next. Followed the waiter's excellent guidance and every dish was a huge success. The waiter was a credit to the place, absolute fountain of knowledge. Wanted something different to high end steak and seafood dining and didn't disappoint. Food is so good, and very special flavors. Byblos @byblostoronto is such a great spot! I've been a regular ever since I discovered it by chance 3 years ago when I couldn't get into Pai across the street. I was blown away by the quality, presentation, taste, shared plates, and ambiance--all at a great price point. It's not just me who loves it; it's usually packed! Perfect for casual business meetings and an underrated spot for date night. Some of my favorites include the lamb chops, hummus royale, Turkish dumplings, and the fried chicken. And don't forget the coolest cocktail in town, "The Geographer"! The Mediterranean flavors here are simply amazing. read more

Love the food and the vibe. Went for my sisters birthday. I will always be back Diverse wine list, including options from Lebanon. The flavors in every dish are bright and diverse. Everything we had was perfectly seasoned - the pide is not to be missed (we had the truffle one). We definitely ordered too much food (which isn't a bad thing) - if I had to cut one dish it would have been the cauliflower. The service was excellent, though I would caution that the ambiance is much different between the lower and upper floor - lower being more casual and the upper is more romantic and intimate. read more

For mains, we went with the signature dish, lamb shoulder, which was excellent and a very good sized portion. I also enjoyed the middle eastern fried chicken, lots of flavor. I found the salmon good but not incredible. I love Brussels sprouts and theirs were excellent. Also enjoyed the cauliflower. I skipped dessert but my colleagues loved the sorbet and pistachio ice cream. Amazing food and amazing experience. Our server was very helpful. I thought the portion sizes were going to be small so we were going to order too much but he helped us out a lot. read more

I went to Byblos with my parents last week. The restaurant seems to be nice. It was our first time and was highly recommended by a family friend. We were told to try their Lamb ribs... the order took some time though. But when it was served on our table... it was heaven! Boy, the meat was so tender and juicy! Even my parents liked it! Perhaps the service is a bit slow but when its been justified with the kind of food they serve here. It was a pretty nice experience to eat here. I would still come back here once in a while. read more

Amazing food, unbeatable service. Soo glad that we found hidden gem with yelp. My friend declared this place "the king of food place in Toronto." Location was easy to get to and the food was terrific, a lot of variety so everyone in the family can find something they like. (I strongly recommend trying out their special!) The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I'm looking forward to coming here again but this time to try out their stuff on the menu! The atmosphere of Byblos is really lovely and elegant. As u sat on those couch u can view the cozy ambiance. I went here with a friend of mine and we both like it here. We had Turkish Manti Dumplings and Mejadra Basmati Rice plus Gulab cocktail for 2. The Baristas are hospitable and friendly enough.There were more seats both 1st. and 2nd. flr. of Byblos. It was crowded that time we were there, it seems like both locals/regulars customer were enjoying the whole time hanging out @ Byblos. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. Shame on this establishment and whom ever thought that rather than apologizing and reducing your bill for serving a Live Caterpillar , they could target, harass and threaten a customer (@Dimps). I will never go here. Post-Covid, when so many restaurants need to make every customer count, Byblos just earned a star for discrimination in my books. Avoid, avoid, avoid. The venue is cute and a good spot for a casual dinner date. I was excited to try the Turkish manti dumplings, which are well-known, but ours came burnt, making them quite dry and bitter. We didn't mention it at the time, assuming it was normal, but other reviews suggest otherwise. Everything else was good, but my expectations were probably too high. It's a solid choice for Turkish cuisine, but not the best. read more

The worst $200 ever spent. What is all the hype about for this place? We had few glasses of wine, a main (the cornish hen) and a few appetizers with dessert (the dessert was actually good) and paid about $200 for what I would say was the most forgettable meal I have ever had. And the atmosphere here is dull. Even for a date night, you expect some ambiance. I don't think this place is worth the repeat. read more
