I had the Sonia Shakshuka which included beef kebab with ground beef plus eggplant. The tomato sauce is great, and the challah that comes with it is terrific - really soft and just wonderful and I used it to dip and wipe up the sauce which worked really well. The egg is done well, and the eggplant has good texture. The meat is a great kebab with just the right kind of chewiness. Overall the experience was pretty good but I am not sure that the food is here for me. The space here is very bright, clean and welcoming. The other location I visited previously seemed bigger but there is a lot of seating here as well. The look of the place was kind of like an old school diner which was kind of neat as well. We were here in the morning and this place got really busy with lines forming at the door so consider a reservation if you have a larger group. The staff were all very friendly and any additional items we requested was brought to us very quickly which is a breath of fresh air as this does not happen at many restaurants. The food also arrived quickly which was great as we were all hungry. As for food, I had a hard time choosing as nothing really stood out to me. In the end I ordered a matcha latte and the famous schnitzel. The portion for the schnitzel is sizeable and comes with fries. The schnitzel looked delicious but as I took more and more bites I found it to be a bit dry. I kept squeezing lemon juice on the schnitzel and dipping it into ketchup (which they don't give you very much of). Other than that the taste was decent. It really didn't taste anything more than pork with batter. Overall a good experience at the restaurant with a good atmosphere and good service. Food wise was disappointing side salad for felt like it sat a while wilted no flavor just covered in oil with the shiny appearance on salad. The foccicas upgrade 1.5$ I get this little piece of bread honestly did not look like focaccia more like a pita bread. SO NOT WORTH IT. **DO NOT ORDER THE FOCACCIA upgrade. Compare to another table challah bread which is was standard order more substantial and no $ upgrade required. I ordered the halloumi Shasuka is my standard order. Little fried halloumi hardly of substance felt hollow on the inside with little air pockets. Egg okay could be more runny and tomato flavoring had taste and smell of cast iron. This is not my first time ordering this dish but sometjing definitely off. This was a dish I looked forward to now I don't have any reason to go come back. I have a love for shakshuka ever since I had it in NYC years ago. I tend to go out of my way to try it at any spot that offers it. Today, with the snow and below freezing temp, I made the journey to come to Cafe Landwer to try their shakshuka. Before you judge, I am from CA and here for a visit so the snow and freezing temp almost took me out during my half mile walk. Ambiance: Cafe Landwer reminds me of any other regular diner. It has plenty of tables and seatings. Nothing really special. 2/5 Service: the service was okay. Not as tentative as the diners in the States. Water wasn't refilled until after my meal was done. 2/5 Food: the shakshuka was okay. Nothing about it stood out. If anything, it was mild in flavors. The beef kabobs were a bit dry. The salad was also okay as well. However, the main star of the show was the challah. I have never had challah with shakshuka and honestly, it was such a good combo. The bread was soft and fluffy, and it absorbed the shakshuka sauce so well. Finally got to try the Cafe Landwer spot at Bloor/Yonge. Very convenient location. Restaurant is buzzing! No reservations available on Saturday for lunch so I joined the waitlist on the site in a timely manner and it worked out perfect to meet my friend for lunch before a show. I opted for a coffee and the fattoush salad. Everything was perfect. Great coffee. Salad was a good portion and colourful & flavourful! Service was friendly and attentive. It's a fair size place and nicely laid out. It's a bit on the noisy side but as it's generally packed with customers, that's to be expected! This is a cool concept. It's a mediterranean fast casual sit-down. This location is very close to the Hockey of Hall of Fame in Toronto. It was a nice day and since I saw that there seemed to be vacant seats at the outdoor patio, I had asked the host if we could be seated there, but he said they aren't available. If I remember correctly, it was 'reserved.' Okay, fine. Anyway, we get seated indoors. Our waitress was great and prompt and we got our drinks. But the host came in to take our orders. We had repeated what we wanted. Despite this, there was an additional food order that we didn't want. After a brief argument, he was able to take the untouched food order off the bill. Anyway, the food was great, but the service from the host was terrible because he got the order wrong. What made matters worst is that there was only a few people sitting outside. Anyway, I didn't want to argue why we couldn't sit outside. It was still during lunch time and the weather was still good. First time here and we loved it! I saw photos of their Shakshuka and looked like a unique brunch meal so I had to try it. They have 6 Shakshuka choices: Served with two eggs, tahini, a side salad and a choice of pita, multigrain or a challah, focaccia I got the Merguez Shakshuka and it had lots of unique flavours: Beef sausage, cherry tomatoes, roasted onion and parsley I really loved the freshly made and hot focaccia bread! Yum!!! Also loved their Mint Leaf Lemonade. So delicious and refreshing. Green colour was gorgeous too! Service was very friendly and we got the feeling the staff enjoyed working here. Prompt service once you have snagged yourself a table but make sure to add your name to the waitlist ahead of time - either in person or online through Yelp. It can get pretty buzzing during the day. We ordered the Mediterranean Shakshuka and the French Toast. The Shakshuka (5/5) with our chosen Challah bread was a big hit. They have a variety of shakshuka combinations but the one with eggplant caught our eyes - and in retrospect for all the right reasons. The French Toast (3/5) was nicer in theory but didn't hit the ball out of the park for me. There was some bitter element in the granola which could have worked well with the maple syrup but it still felt odd at times. The bread could have been a little less on the drier side. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the vibe, and savory dish offered. I see myself trying something different - on the sweeter side next time. read more

Cafe Landwer is a cute spot for Mediterranean cuisine, with a patio that offers a pleasant outdoor dining experience. We were able to get a table for two right away at 6pm on a Friday night. We ordered the shawarma plate and the sinia kebab, both of which were delicious. Service was really quick and the portions were generous, but definitely a bit messy to eat! we also ordered the Landwer famous ice tea which I would skip out on next time. Our drinks arrived first, so we talked while sipping our drinks. I enjoyed the warm apple cider warming me up on a cold evening. My boyfriend enjoyed the cool sweet taste of vanilla. Then our main dishes arrived, and we couldn't wait to eat! My dish, Mediterranean shakshuka, was delicious- the veggies were soft and chewy, the eggs were soft and lightly crispy, and the tomato base underneath was a bit salty to balance the flavour of the dish. My boyfriend said his dish, grilled salmon with veggies was also delicious- it was juicy and succulent. We were too full to eat dessert, so we decided to come back and try that on another day. I eat here pretty often, and always order the same thing, Sinia Kabab. I ordered it this past weekend and they changed it for some reason. The thing is a bread bowl full of roasted vegetables, a few kebabs, and a nice tahini sauce drizzled over it. This time it came with a different sauce, missing the long green spicy peppers, and for some reason pickled red onions. There's already a whole roasted red onion in it. Why add the pickled ones? and the new sauce does nothing to improve what they already had. Do better and change it back. read more

I got the food delivered this time via a delivery app. The delivery took its time despite the close proximity so this review of the food might have been slightly better IMO. I tried the Arais burger other person dinning with moi had the halloomi sandwich. Both were decent as I got to try the sandwich as well. The side of fries forgettable and I didn't try the salad. I feel the arais could have used more seasoning. The meze platter was a mixed bag of tastes literally. Hummus being really good, Labneh being OK, falafel, artichoke and tomato being below average IMO. There is a dearth of decent brunch spots in this area at this price point especially for the office crowd. This fills in the gap nicely IMO with a potential 4 stars I guess. I was looking for a place for a meet up and decided on Cafe Landwer, the prices are good and the food selection plenty. Using Yelp's waitlist function (yay Yelp) I managed to get a table on a busy Sunday at noon. I ordered the Halva Latte (I found it a little strange but its always nice to try new things) and the Sinia Kebab. The Sinia Kebab came with warm focaccia with charboiled eggplant. I was in heaven. Nothing beats fresh baked (flat) bread. The portion sizes were great and the price was decent. Overall, I would recommend Cafe Landwer for its prices and huge selection, the atmosphere is a little noisy/busy so it would probably not be a great place for a date. read more

Getting a seat for lunch was relatively easy as the wait list is done through Yelp. On a Saturday, the lunch wait was about 30 minutes. Once rang up, I was brought to my table by the host. Waitress quickly arrived and I had originally asked for a bigger table next to the one I was given since I knew the table I was given wouldn't hold the multiple dishes I was ordering and the waitress was understanding but had to ask the host. Waitress came back and explained that the host explained had told her that the table was reserved, fair enough I suppose. Decided to order the sinia shakshuka, shawarma hummus bowl and the schnitzel with truffle fries. Food arrived after 20minutes or so and clearly there was no space to put the 3rd dish. At this point, it's been about 30minutes since being taken to the table and the larger table by me finally has someone just come in. Still many other larger tables unoccupied but wasn't offered to me yet. At this point I had to ask the waitress again and even then the waitress was understanding but once again had to ask the host. Watching from afar, the host definitely looked annoyed at this point but the waitress came back with good news and quickly moved me and my partner to another table. Food was delicious and all cooked well. Waited another 10 minutes hoping someone would come by to give me the bill before flagging a different waitress down to request to pay. Waitress came back after taking orders from multiple tables only to bring me the menu and ask if I was ready to order. Had to correct her before the pay machine was brought to me. Overall experience was bad despite the food being good. Didn't think bad service would taint my experience this much but there seems to be many areas for improvement. read more
