Being new to cupping, I had no idea what to expect and, wow, it was better than I anticipated. Amanda took her time to talk with me when I arrived to get to know me and explain the cupping process. She spent the beginning of the appointment doing a deep tissue massage, focusing on my areas of tension. This included some stretching, which felt amazing. She was very knowledgeable, commenting on reasons for tension/knots in certain areas and even knowing from massaging my neck that I clench my teeth! At the end of the massage came the cupping. Amanda used stationary cups (the traditional ones that stay in place with suction) as well as cups that she moved around, describing it as almost a "reverse massage." This was a "hurts but feels good" situation for me. I really enjoyed it, and felt like the tension in my neck and shoulders was finally relieved. Amanda suggested an epsom salt bath and rest as cupping is intended to detox the body. I took her suggestions and felt so relaxed. The cupping did leave marks but they went away in about a week. I had a 60 minute Swedish Massage with Elle at Body of Needs Spa yesterday and have finally found my new MT and Spa home!! The experience begins with being welcomed by their delightful receptionist who offered me water and had me fill out their very detailed intake form that asks everything from specific areas of focus, lotion or oil preference, amount of pressure and all the things your MT needs to tailor your massage. Elle came out to get me and brought me in to a very tranquil treatment room. There is a whiteboard on the wall and Elle used it to note where I wanted her to focus, any thing that was important to me for my massage and then she stepped out so that I could undress. As she started the massage, the pressure was a little lighter than I wanted so I told her and she immediately adjusted. She really worked on my problem areas and gave a great full body massage!! I'm a little sore today, but in the best possible way!! I immediately scheduled my next appointment with Elle as soon as I got in the car; a 90 minute this time,. Like most LMT's she has a calm and pleasing demeanor that reassures and relaxes me. If you want great service at an affordable price (almost half of what that large National chain charges over in WeHa) in a safe and clean environment, this place is for you. Due to heavy rush-hour traffic, I was running late but was still actively on my way to the appointment. Shortly after the appointment time, I received a call informing me that the appointment would not proceed. The following morning, I spoke with a staff member identified as Lynn regarding the situation. During that conversation, I was told the practice had a "zero tolerance" policy for VA patients regarding missed appointments due to us being "non-paying customers", despite the fact that I had been traveling to the appointment and had not intended to miss it. What concerned me most was being referred to in a manner that suggesting I was a "non-paying customer" because my treatment was being provided through VA Community Care. I found that comment disrespectful and unprofessional. I used to attend these appointments back when they first started accepting VA patients and had an excellent massage therapist named Merlyn and always tipped her very well. Not to mention the fact that the VA does pay for these services. I understand that businesses have scheduling policies, but patients--especially veterans receiving authorized medical care--should be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
